BS Information Science: Data Science

This program is designed to help students develop advanced skills in data science. They learn crucial ways in which data science can be used in the real world, including: applied classes in data mining, principles and practices of data science; uses for big data, such as data engineering and database development; applied cyber infrastructure concepts, as well as applications to machine learning and algorithm development.

• Demonstrate facility using basic research methods, for example: research design; statistics and analysis; organization, identification, and location of data and information including open- and closed-access sources; and/or presentation of findings in oral, written and multimedia form, including proper use of and citation of sources.

• Recognize and analyze ethical and policy concerns raised by new technologies and the application of ethical thinking to real world cases and craft effective solutions.

• Establish the ability to exercise the four key techniques of computational thinking (decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithms) in solving information and data challenges.
