THE SCHOOL OF APPLIED STUDIES The School of Applied Studies is designed to prepare students for technical and professional career fields upon completion of an Associate in Applied Science Degree. Some majors also offer Certificate of Proficiency options – study plans that last approximately one year. The School of Applied Studies includes programs designed to train individuals in specific career fields, such as surveying, computer information systems or automotive technology. These programs are not specifically designed for transfer to upper-level colleges or universities. General studies or “core curriculum” courses taken as part of a required curriculum transfer to Texas public colleges and universities – by State law – and may transfer to private or out-of-state institutions. Depending upon the program and the institution selected, other courses may also be accepted for transfer. However, transfer of these credits to upper-level degree-granting institutions is not the intent of programs within The School of Applied Studies. Students studying in these programs who later decide to transfer to an upper-lever institution for completion of a bachelor’s degree should consult their academic advisor first.
