ACOTE’s telephone number c/o AOTA is (301) 652-AOTA and its web address is www.acoteonline. org. Once accreditation of the program has been obtained, its graduates will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapy assistant administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COT A). ln addition, most states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure.

†† Graduation from a physical therapist assistant education program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), 1111 North Fairfax Street, Alexandria, VA 22314; phone; 703-706-3245; accreditation@apta.org is necessary for eligibility to sit for the licensure examination, which is required in all states. Tyler Junior College is seeking accreditation of a new physical therapist assistant education program from CAPTE. The program will submit an Application for Candidacy, which is the formal application required in the pre-accreditation stage. Submission of this document does not assure that the program will be granted Candidate for Accreditation status. Achievement of Candidate for Accreditation status is required prior to implementation of the technical phase of the program; therefore, no students may be enrolled in technical courses until Candidate for Accreditation status has been achieved. Further, though achievement of Candidate for Accreditation status signifies satisfactory progress toward accreditation, it does not assure that the program will be granted accreditation.

I’M READY TO SUCCEED Commit to Complete

Achieving the Dream

Tyler Junior College is committed to assisting students in their efforts to achieve their educational goals. Two-thirds of all new jobs that produce livable wages require a credential beyond high school. Students who complete a certificate or degree are far more likely to be hired and far less likely to become unemployed. Furthermore, research indicates that upon transfer into a baccalaureate program, students who complete an associate degree are more likely to complete a bachelor’s degree than are students who transfer without completing a degree. Each year, TJC students are asked to commit or renew their commitment to completing a degree or certificate at Tyler Junior College. Likewise, faculty and staff commit themselves to assisting students however possible as they strive to keep that commitment.

Tyler Junior College is a Leader College within the Achieving the Dream network of institutions of higher education. The Achieving the Dream National Reform Network includes over 200 institutions of higher education, 100 coaches and advisors, 15 state policy teams, and numerous investors and partners working throughout 34 states and the District of Columbia. The mission of the Achieving the Dream Network is to promote student success and completion. Colleges within the network utilize data as a means of determining the success of interventions implemented across the college campus. As a Leader College, TJC has assumed the responsibility of sharing the results of our reform efforts with other institutions in an effort to assist students nationwide to achieve their dreams through education.

The Center for Student Success The Center for Student Success provides instruction, interventions, services, innovative programs and resources to strengthen academic success, to improve student retention and to enhance college completion for all students. The Center for Student Success is comprised of the following divisions: The Division of Academic Resources and The Division of Student Resources.
