Pupils return for stunning concert The Kenridge Music Studio celebrated its 25th anniversary by presenting a pupils’ concert on Saturday 2 November at The George and Annie Starck Homes in Parow. The principal of the studio, Lisa Grace, hosted the concert in which past and present pupils performed. The studio offers tuition in piano, keyboard, recorder and music theory. One of the studio’s past pupils, JeanPierre Steyn, was one of the special guest performers. Jean-Pierre, now an established South African composer and songwriter, is currently a Master’s student at The College of Music UCT. One of his art songs was awarded the Afrikaans prize at this year’s ATKV National Operatic Singing Competition. In January 2013 Jean-Pierre was signed to the Universal Music Group, where he has written songs for the 2012 SA Idols winner Khaya Mtwehtweh, Jackie Evancho and the 2012 American Idols finalists. He is also an active film composer for such production houses as National Geographic. Lynelle Kenned, a graduate of the UCT Opera School, accompanied by Jean-Pierre, performed two of his songs for the concert. Lynelle is a member of the award winning South African Sopranos and has an active operatic career. Lynelle became a TV personality as the runner up in the Top Billing Presenter Search, subsequently joining Pasella as their latest presenter. This year she performed with Katherine Jenkins and made her debut in David Kramer’s musical Blood Brothers.
