A Sugar Plum SOIREE

Get inspired by this sweet and magical birthday party inspired by the book Tallulah’s Nutcracker complete with adorable ballerina outfits, twinkling lights, a gorgeous dessert table filled with lots of sweet treats, and a real Sugar Plum Fairy! STYLING & PHOTOGRAPHY: A LOVELY DESIGN

The magical scene was set starting with the dessert table as the focal point. With its backdrop made up of billowy white ruffles, and cascading tissue flowers in white, gold, red and varying shades of plum and a twinkling white Christmas tree placed just to the left. The table was filled with delightfully ruffled cupcakes, beautifully decorated floral sugar cookies, chocolate covered Oreos, and delectable chocolate covered strawberries. But the piece de resistance would definitely have to be the two-tiered cake overflowing in buttercream ruffles and adorned with beautiful red and plum blooms as well as the sweetest little angelic ballerinas and a glittery gold number six!

TThe children’s party table was set by first draping

it in a white tablecloth and adding a beautiful gold sequined runner down the center. The centerpiece was a simple display of delicate white trees and white porcelain Nutcrackers. Each place setting was made up of a lovely square red plate topped with a whimsical pink striped plate and finished with one of my favorite details of the party, the sweetest party favor ever; a jar of “tutu fluff ” aka… cotton candy! The sweetest tutu inspired place card frames sat just above the plate and were paired with a darling little gold Nutcracker, and finally the cutest white ornament cup filled with pink lemonade sat neatly on a glittery gold snowflake coaster. As all the little guests arrived, they were escorted to the magical dress up station, where they were transformed into precious little ballerinas. Their eyes were wide with excitement as they were then greeted by the most beautiful Sugar Plum Fairy. Her dress was the perfect hue of pink and glistened with gorgeous golden details. It was such a treat for the girls to dance and play games with a real live ballerina. After dancing and playing to their hearts content, the little ballerinas couldn’t wait to sit at the magical party table and enjoy a sweet little lunch of berries and sandwiches. After lunch came “Happy Birthday” singing, treats, presents and of course more dancing!

CREATING TRADITIONS

diyAdvent Calendar by BIRD'S PARTY

MATERIALS: * star-shaped paper machĂŠ boxes (I used 4 of 2 different sizes)

* colored cardstock (I used glitter copper, shiny gold, glitter pink and printable star-patterned

* small white match-boxes * paper envelopes or goodie bags * small pegs to match your color palette * craft knife * scissors * hole puncher * ornaments of choice

paper) * glue and 3-D foam stickers for the envelopes (optional) * cord for hanging the decor (I used copper colored and white) * printable advent calendar numbers. Click here for the free download.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Party Magazine *

17

DIRECTIONS: First, cut and hang a piece of tree branch to your wall.

DIY ADVENT CALENDAR BOXES AND STAR BOXES

1

2

1) For the boxes: start gluing strip of the cardstock on the front. You can cover the entire side or simply add vertical or horizontal strips to decorate and add interest. 2) Stick on the Advent Calendar numbers to the front each box. 3) Use a hole puncher to piece a hole on the top part of each box, and thread a length of cord through. Tie a knot on the cord to secure it inside the box.

3

4

4) For the star boxes: Trace and cut a piece of cardstock to fit the lid of your boxes. 5) Glue the paper to the lid. You may want to also cover the sides of the boxes or even paint them, if you wish.

5

6

18 * Twinkle Twinkle Little Party Magazine

6) Carefully pierce a hole on top of each box (not the lid!) with a craft knife, and shape the whole with a sharp object like an embroidery needle or BBQ stick. Add cord and tie a not on the inside to secure it.

Fill boxes with gifts, trinkets or candy, and hang them onto your branch. TIP: Hang the boxes in various orders and heights to add to the fun!

DIY ADVENT CALENDAR ENVELOPES 1) Simply punch out circle of colored cardstock and superimpose them, gluing an Advent Calendar number in the center. 2) Fill with whatever you wish, and seal with a small wooden peg. All that's left to do is to peg them to the cords already on your Advent Calendar. Finish decorating the calendar with decorative element like baubles and other shiny ornaments.

ACookie HOLIDAY Swap Party Spread the joy and share the goodness this Holiday Season with a Christmas Cookie Swap! A festive way to bring friends together and plate up an assortment of pretty cookies to take home…or leave out for Santa! Styling & Photography by GIGGLE LIVING The holidays are upon us and that means it’s time to fire up the oven and begin baking! Christmas cookies are not only delicious but baking them is a much anticipated holiday tradition for many families! Cinnamon spice, gingerbread, and decorated sugar cookies have our heads swirling with sugary fun. “If you’re thinking of hosting a cookie swap, all you really need are some tables for sharing the baked goods and maybe a few extra nibbles for your guests," says Lori, of Giggle Living. If time permits, why not set up a separate dessert station to neatly display holiday inspired sweets, such as cupcakes topped with cookies to perfectly match the theme and holiday candies. Make the sweets station pretty and inviting by incorporating a fun backdrop and holiday decor, such as large snowflakes and brush trees to your table top.

Creating Joy

MAKING MEMORIES

DEANNA TALWAKAR Mirabelle Creations

Ever since I was a child, Christmas morning was the most magical time of the year. It's filled with so much happiness and love - two things we could use more of all year long! This collection was created to capture those feelings and celebrate the days and weeks leading up to Christmas morning.

26 * Twinkle Twinkle Little Party Magazine

in everyday... THIS YEAR’S CHRISTMAS COLLECTION WAS INSPIRED BY THE JOY OF CHRISTMAS MORNING. The colors include cranberry, holly red, ballet slipper, powder blue and cerulean. The color palette was also chosen to compliment the joyful nature of the hand lettered designs.

28 * Twinkle Twinkle Little Party Magazine

Since Christmas morning is such a fun time, I set up a little Christmas breakfast that you can recreate in just minutes. With a powdered sugar donut cake, a tray of fruit and hot cocoa, this table can be set up quickly, so you can spend more time with family. To make the donut cake and fruit tray a little more festive, I tucked greenery and berries into the them. A few other sweet treats, like meringues and white chocolate covered pretzels, can be snacked on throughout the morning.

THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS: A MODERN VINTAGE

A As the holiday season is underway, it’s easy to

get lost in the hustle and bustle of family obligations, work parties, and overwhelming travel. Thankfully, if we remember why we’re doing this in the first place, then we might pause to enjoy the beautiful moments — after all, in the end, the holidays are all about celebration and connection with your loved ones. To bring people together, Carolina created an upbeat party for mothers to give themselves time to connect with friends and have their own kind of holiday fun by decorating gingerbread houses. Traditional Christmas colors abound in bursts, pops, and subtle hints, underscored by striking black-and-white checkered patterns that seamlessly blend vintage Christmas decor with a modern tone. Every detail was considered, from sweet treats and jubilant affirmations to symbols of the season. Given the hands-on experience of the party, oversized cooking utensils and hints of kitchen baking were used as decorations in the recessed shelves and built-in countertops.

SWEETS Because not everyone’s taste preferences are the same, an array of dessert options were presented to guests, including mod cupcakes topped with cute paper trees, sugar cookies, spooned frozen treats, chocolate mousse, and decadent cakes, all around a 2’ tall tree made completely of Macarons, cookies and marshmallows that harken back to Christmas ornaments.

GINGERBREAD HOUSE DECORATING Whether you were naughty or nice, every guest was given all the supplies needed to create a gingerbread house that suit each mom’s preferences, from a variety of colorful fondants and sugary spreads for rooftops to carefully thought out icing technique tips to create gingerbread house molding and design flourishes. A NUTCRACKER n o i t a r b e l e Birthday C

T The Nutcracker is an iconic holiday tradition. The nutcracker ballet, originally scored Styling & Photography by CROWNING DETAILS

by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, is a household tradition for many worldwide during the Christmas season. And with its popularity as with many theater performances and children’s books, it has become a popular party theme.

When working on this design concept, Julie wanted to create something with nods to some of the primary elements to the performance, while keeping it something easily to replicate at home. The unique backdrop was created using white floral petal sheeting that was attached to the wall using a staple gun. The centerpiece to the display was a 4-foot-tall alpine Christmas tree lit in white lights. To either side of the holiday tree, Julie displayed hand painted; hand cut wooden characters from her Nutcracker collection. Clara and the iconic nutcracker, with a few color twists, were proudly displayed as showpieces on the dessert table. To bring softness and a nod to ballet, she added a floor length pink skirt around the table anchored in a crisp white table linen. For sparkle and a nod to winter, gold glittered snowflakes were sprinkled across the tabletop.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Party Magazine *

PARTY SWEETS A buttercream birthday cake was dressed up with colorful sprinkles around the base and a laser cut acrylic “Happy Birthday cake topper designed from original hand lettering. Vanilla buttercream cupcakes topped with confetti sprinkles were elevated by placing them into gold confetti paper cups and by adding gold glitter ballerina toppers. An assortment of mini treats displayed in a gold three tiered server. Chocolate truffles and mini cupcakes were elevated by displaying them in handmade white lace wrappers.

40 * Twinkle Twinkle Little Party Magazine

THEMED PARTY SUPPLIES Desserts were served on Crowning Details’ exclusive collection of Nutcracker paper plates, featuring a trio of the Christmas tree, Clara and the Nutcracker and then, the Nutcracker himself. The tabletop collection features two dessert plate designs, a dinner plate and paper cups, in a modern refreshed color palette.

FAVORS THAT DOUBLE AS PARTY DECOR During the holidays, Christmas ornaments are the perfect accessory to any dessert table. They also make the perfect take-home favors. Make them especial by attaching coordinating tags.

2 1. PROMOTE JOY AND HOPE The idea of peace speaks of angel wings, which become the focal point of this vignette. Created from paper feathers and gold details as a reminder to look outward for joy and upward for hope. The gold is also used to form the letters of “Peace on Earth in a simple yet elegant banner hung above it all.

2. LESS IS MORE Less is more on these simple trees with strands of LED fairy lights, birch bark ribbon, and birds of different sizes. The larger the ornament the fewer required is a great rule of thumb. Investing in a handful of large-scale ornaments increases the overall impact of your tree while cutting down on the quantity of ornaments needed. Twinkle Twinkle Little Party Magazine *

3. SHOW GRATITUDE In Brianna’s home the Prince of Peace and Santa both have their place during the holiday season and both are represented. ENTERTAINING

Ladies Holiday Movie Night The most wonderful time of year can quickly turn into a crazy time of the year for most moms . So why not take a night with your closest friends to relax, laugh and enjoy the season? Styling & Photography by AK PARTY STUDIO

That’s what Toni of AK Party Studio did! She invited a few of her closest friends over for dinner and a holiday movie. “One of my favorite traditions of the holiday season is watching my selection of Christmas movies. I have my favorites that are watched each year, the classics and some new ones,” says Toni. Toni created a table in her living room by using wood pieces on a large ottoman, laid pillows out on the floor for each guest. The table was set next to the fire to create a cozy atmosphere where all the girls could get comfortable. She made sure to tell each lady to come in their cozy attire. Buffalo check wrapping paper turned into table runner. Toni clipped a few cedar, holly sprigs and laid them down in the center of the table. I love adding candles to any table setting, “I found these darling mini lanterns at the dollar store and they worked perfectly for this centerpiece. I love that you can use already existing holiday decorations to spruce up any party,” says Toni. “AFTER DINNER WE ALL FILLED OUR CUPS WITH A FESTIVE DRINK AND CURLED UP ON THE COUCH FOR THE MOVIE TIME. I MADE A BIG BATCH OF HOT CHOCOLATE WITH AN ADULT TWIST.”

STYLING AND STORY BY JOHNSTON STYLE PHOTOGRAPHY COURTNEY JADE PHOTOGRAPHY

'Tis the season for all things sparkly. Don’t you just love it? And nothing’s prettier than these sugared cranberries. I have to admit that cranberries are not my favorite because of how tart they really are, but you know what? I can actually eat them all sugar coated like this. They're sweet and tangy, which make a surprising addition to your favorite apple pie recipe, cakes or baked brie and oh, so festive. If you don't have time to bake a cake but are wanting to make a spectacular presentation, head to your local Bakery and pick up a classic cake. Do the easy part, make the sugared cranberries and add them to the pre-made dessert. I clipped fresh greens from outside in my backyard adding to make it more festive. I believe semi-homemade is the way to go during such a busy season. This also gives you more time to decorate your home, shop and wrap your gifts. Most importantly, it allows you time to enjoy the season with your loved ones.

A New Year’s Eve

Champagne Tasting Party Black Twine, a party platform for the modern host, shares their best tips for how to throw an easy champagne tasting party that will get everyone ready for the celebratory countdown to 2018.

New Year’s Eve is the perfect excuse for a grown-ups’ night in with friends. While the holiday season is busy and can be overwhelming, this party is so easy that you won’t sweat the details. So put on your party dress and get ready to pop the bubbly!

TRY THESE IDEAS! 1. SET UP A CHAMPAGNE TASTING BAR AS

THE MAIN EVENT As guests come into the party, welcome them with a champagne glass and direct them to the champagne tasting bar. Set up three to four bottles of champagne and allow the guests to mingle and taste. Guests will naturally chat about their favorites and get into a celebratory mood as the bubbly starts to flow. 2. DECORATE WITH FESTIVE NEW YEAR’S EVE

THEMED BOTTLE LABELS For party decor, sticking to a color scheme keeps things simple and easy. Gold and black are glamorous, festive colors that are perfect for New Year’s Eve. Instead of going out and buying every New Year’s Eve themed party item that strikes your fancy, stick to a few key decor items, such as festive New Year’s themed bottle labels.

74 * Twinkle Twinkle Little Party Magazine

3. USE OUR WINE CALCULATOR

AND NEVER RUN OUT OF WINE Fill in the champagne with inexpensive wine, and use our handy wine calculator to ensure that you have enough bottles for the guests. A general rule of thumb is about a half bottle to 1 bottle per guest, assuming each guest drinks about 3 glasses. 4. ONCE THE BUBBLY IS FLOWING,

USHER THE GUESTS INTO THE PHOTOBOOTH Everyone loves to document their New Year’s Eve celebration, so a do-it-yourself photo booth is ideal as you get ready for the midnight countdown! These days, setting up a photo booth couldn’t be easier with readily available kits. 5. COMPLEMENT THE BUBBLY WITH

A DIY BURGER BAR Satiate your guests’ midnight munchies with a doit-yourself burger bar, which is easy to prep or cater from your favorite burger place. If catering, just ask the restaurant to separate the buns, burgers, and accompaniments. Plate up on large white platters and allow your guests to serve themselves. To learn more about Black Twine, visit www.blacktwine.co and join the party!
