A very warm welcome to our sunny July/August issue of TV4Life. recently started renting an allotment after waiting two years on a long list. Apparently I’m not alone in my desire to produce my own fruit and vegetables. According to the Sunday Times recently, Queen Elizabeth II and President Barack Obama are having a go at growing their own food too. There is something very satisfying about picking your own strawberries and lettuces and I believe it is a good biblical analogy for our spiritual life. The Lord led me to choose fruitfulness as the theme for this issue, bringing Psalm 1: 1-3 and 2 Corinthians 9: 8-11 to mind. In these tough times God will provide all of our needs, as written about on p32 by Jerry Savelle. He can help us ﬁnd “Stability In An Unstable World” (see p32), so we can be blessed and share our fruitfulness with others (see the articles on p14 and 15; Terry Quinn’s article on p39 and Jonathan Miller’s on p36). We can also choose to live a life of abundance like the founder of Operation Mobilisation (OM) George Verwer (see p8 and 9). James 3:18 says, “The fruit of righteousness is sown in peace” and Prophetess Angela Johnson writes on righteousness on p66. Whether you are going on holiday this summer or are seeking spiritual growth at one of the many Christian conferences which are taking place, may the Lord bless you in all you do.

I really enjoyed the article about Esther Baker in the May/June 09 issue of TV4Life. I thought it was amazing to read how God redeemed her past as a Buddhist Nun and He has now used it for His glory and the redemption of other people. There are things in my past that I think how could I have been so dumb and wasted so much time, but I am encouraged to realise that God can use them. I’m looking forward to reading the book “I Was Once A Buddhist Nun.”

eorge Verwer is no ordinary man of God. He is slim, with an air of authority and likes to wear a brightly coloured bomber jacket covered with a map of the world as he preaches. He has a heart on fire for the Lord and a drive to spread the gospel across the globe like few others. He confesses that he finds it difficult to conform to regular dress codes and that he’s had a problem with lust in the past, of which he has repented. But it is also evident that the Lord has anointed him to carry out the equivalent of three full time jobs, even though he is 70. George was born in Patterson, New Jersey. His father and grandfather were from the Netherlands and his grandfather was an atheist. “I didn’t have much of a spiritual background, but a lady called Dorothea Clapp, who lived across the road from my High School, had been praying for me and she had given me a gospel of St John,” he said. Dorothea had asked God to touch the world through the lives of High School students. God answered her prayers. George gave his heart to the Lord at a Billy Graham meeting 54 years ago, when he was 16-years-old. He said: “Billy Graham came into my life like a tornado out of heaven and my life has never been the same since. “I was filled with joy that God had done something in my life and there was peace. There has never been a day in my life when this has not been real.” After his conversion, George started to take meetings at his High School. “We distributed 1,000 gospels of St John. Six hundred people came to one meeting and 125 people stood up to trust the Lord Jesus Christ, including my father who followed the Lord until he died.” During a summer break from University, George and two friends went to Mexico after selling their possessions to raise funds to get there. George, who learnt Spanish, said: “It completely changed my

life. I saw my life could be used by Christ. I already felt the call.” With the friends, they distributed gospels and Christian literature, they started a bookshop, radio broadcasts, a correspondence course and established some full time workers. After this, George left University and transferred to the Moody Bible Institute and returned to Mexico in 1957. From there, he headed with his wife, Drena, to Spain. “It was a closed country so we were reaching people secretly. We reached 100,000 people through the post,” he said. He set up a ministry called “Send The Light”. God had given George a vision for closed countries including Muslim and communist countries. Not long afterwards, George found himself being arrested by the KGB as he was trying to smuggle Bibles into Russia. But that’s another story. By 1962, George, Drena and their growing family had moved to Europe and Operation Mobilisation (OM) was born with a vision to reach Europe with 25 million pieces of Christian literature. As they shared their vision, hundreds of Christians responded. Before long his team was distributing Bibles and books. “Our thrust was always Muslim countries,” he said. “God put India in my heart. I am moved by the poverty, the sheer open door and how the people respond to the call for a radical commitment. We now have 2,000 people working for us in India and we have a couple of thousand churches.” George moved Drena, their two sons and daughter to India and four years later, when he was not allowed to return to India, they moved to Nepal and his Indian workers would go to Nepal to be trained. During an OM annual conference in 1965, George had a vision of a ship. “I came to Europe in a ship. The seed of how useful a ship can be, having vehicles on board and having meetings, was sown in Bolton, UK.” In 1970, OM launched Logos (Greek word for The Word) and in 1976 Doulos and this year Logos Hope. (See it in London until June 29th).

Since then, 140,000 people have served with Operation Mobilisation. “We stopped counting 10 years ago when we realised we had given out one billion pieces of Christian literature.” The literature side of the ministry, called Send The Light(STL), became so big that its head office moved to Carlisle and later merged with the International Bible Society. Wesley Owen is part of STL. George added: “We don’t count decisions. We are trying to make disciples not converts.” The vital question of how to live a fruitful life was put to George. He said: “The Holy Spirit leads people in different ways. It’s by feeding on the Word of God daily and as Romans 12 verse 1 says, the renewing of your mind, I immediately shared my faith. Once you start sharing your faith you put yourself out on a limb and that gives you motivation to stay on the straight and narrow. “One of the main things is not just being saved, but putting all of my life under the Lordship of Christ and bringing my sexuality, my finances, my time, my everything to him. For a while I became a bit extreme and found it hard to buy anything for myself but you have to get the balance right. “My aim has been to reach all the world with the gospel and while doing so you see so many needs; it is so motivating.” In August 2003, George handed over the leadership of OM, but he did not retire from ministry work. “Today OM is old hat like its founder. Who wants to go on OM? We are on the cutting edge more now than ever before and have a higher respect. OM produces people who will pray, who will give and get involved,” he said. Work With Christians are becoming more aware of the need to involve the Lord in everything about their lifestyles, especially work.

n these difficult times, more people are reported to be turning to God and churches, and Christian organisations are responding to needs. The Financial Times recently reported: “Britons are turning from Mammon to religion as the downturn bites for advice about debt and redundancy, not simply spiritual consolation.” As the recession continues to dig in its heels, the Methodist Church is pioneering ways to bridge the gap between work and place of worship. It recently introduced Business Sunday, an idea instigated by Vice-President of the Methodist Conference, David Walton. The Archbishop said: “We are here because we want to see business changing lives and transforming communities for the better. We want to see industry that makes the world a better place. We want to see an economy that serves humanity and sustains the world we share. “We want to see God at work, working in business. If we as leaders are not going to help them to know it is part of their calling to live the gospel fully, then we are not going to help them.” Churchwarden Ken Costa is the author of the book “God At Work”, on which the course is based. It tackles such issues as purpose at work, ambition, worklife balance, stress and making tough decisions. The head of Channel 4, Andy Duncan, has said that Christians need to engage more with the media and keep up-todate with new media technologies in order to further promote their cause. hat do we see in the early church? Believers believed!!! Christ was real, he was for now, he was powerful, he changed everything and against the background of opposition and suffering the message of the Gospel spread like wildfire. The real, visible, vibrant, militant movement of Jesus’ followers shook the planet and truly, as Jesus said, so it was. A church built on the prophets and apostles, deeply contemplative, strongly practical, wholly given to their walk with Jesus in all aspects of life. However, today all too often Christians live dualistic lives, where their faith doesn’t figure in their work, but surely God has called us into business to influence and change it and to see many people come to faith in Jesus. God has equipped every man and woman to be a minister of the Gospel, all with the same mandate to “go into all the world and make disciples of all nations...”, all called and equipped to be intercessors, spiritual warriors, soul winners and disciple-makers. For too long our ‘spiritual activity’ has been concentrated in church programmes and meetings, when surely the only way that we will impact the world around us is by walking out our faith in the context of the ‘ordinary everyday’ shape of our lives, wherever we find ourselves located and whatever the ‘work of our hands’ comprises. God is not calling us to be a ‘sub-culture’ but to live counter-culturally and that is the challenge! Try it – you’ll be amazed at the results!

Nick Szkiler In 1996 I invited Jesus into my heart. I told Him I was sorry for all the things I had done wrong - as a car salesman I had a long list of lies and half truths, yet I had never seen myself as a bad man. I was just like most of the other business people I knew. I confessed that I had done wrong and I told Jesus that I believed that He had died on the cross to pay the price for my sins and that He had risen again. I asked Jesus to give me a new start with Him as the Lord of my life. I could write a book about all the adventures we have had together. Some ask ‘What changed?’ I usually say ‘everything’. I found I could not be the way I was, speak the way I did or do some of the things I did beforethings I thought were O.K. I was given compassion and a love for people that I had never experienced before... After 5 years I prayed another life-changing prayer. I asked God to outwork in my life the plan He always had for me. I opened myself to receive that plan unconditionally. I guess the ﬁrst 5-year phase of my training was over and suddenly and unexpectedly I began to meet people who were sick or bereaved. For four years this became about two-thirds of the people I met through business as a classic car dealer, a quite astonishing proportion given the business I was in. Many received the Gospel. I praise God that many were also healed.

You Are “gods”

John 10:34-35 “Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” ‘? If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken)”.”

od intends that you live an exemplary life. As a child of God, a Christian, you are created to display the wisdom and glory of God. Everything about you should speak about His goodness and life ought to pay you attention. You are divinely engineered to harass devils and terrorize satanic hordes. This is a mystery. Jesus said, “You are a god” and not a mere man, woman, graduate or British citizen. You must stop perceiving yourself as a victim of the environment, a puppet or trapped by circumstances. Dear reader, you are a child of the Most High God (if you are born again) and are ‘a god’. Psalm 82:6 says, “I said, “You are gods, and all of you are children of the Most High”.” You are classed a little lower than Elohim, Psalm 8:5. You are a deity. You bear the likeness and nature of God and must see yourself in this light. Distorted images of self ultimately derail destiny. Lucifer told Eve she had to eat the forbidden fruit to be like God, Genesis 3:5. He implied she was not already like God and lured her into deviant behaviour and lost dominion. Move away from defining yourself by the clothes you wear. Gucci bags, Armani T-shirts or Police sunglasses should not classify you. By all means pride yourself in being a doctor, lawyer, teacher and so on, but do not be defined by these professions. Refuse to be Mr Rolex, Ms BMW or Rev. five-bedroom mansion, but 20 jul/aug

be what God calls you: a god. Wonder-Working “gods” Isaiah 8:18 “Here am I and the children whom the Lord has given me! We are for signs and wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, who dwells in Mount Zion.” Beloved, you are “fearfully and wonderfully made”, Psalm 139:14. God said: “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion”, Genesis 1:26. You are the image and likeness of God. When God sees you He sees Himself; when you behold the Lord, know that that’s what you are. Awake to your divine nature and call yourself exactly that, a god! Parents name their children in almost every culture and God Almighty has named you. You must reject every name that people, life or circumstances have given to you. Stop responding to the name arthritis, lack, depression, hypertension, sorrow, barren and so on. They are not your names. Tell yourself and your world that you are back and remember who and what you are. The Lord told me dominion is restored when identity is re-established. “In Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion”, the Bible says. Those who know who they are (in the Lord) walk in dominion and it is no surprise that Isaiah 8:18 says they “are for signs and wonders”. That’s who you are: a person of dominion and power. Take charge: gods are never intimidated. Believe God and His Word and stoke the tv4life.com

flames of faith and boldness. Go home, open your front door and command poor health, pain or poverty to leave. Deport debt, invoke joy and rule and reign again. Lay hands on the sick, cast out devils and run riot over all oppression. Gods work wonders, not mere men. You are a god! You are authorized to hold sway and command the extraordinary. Step up to the table and glorify God through your lifestyle. Jesus turned water into wine, raised the dead, walked on water, multiplied bread and fish, opened blind eyes, cleansed lepers and made the crippled walk. You can do the same. You are a sign and a wonder. God is raising a people of power and you are one of them. Be bold and strong. Enlist in the army of faith, who like Jesus can boldly say, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, show us the Father?” John 14:9. Fill your heart with the Word of God. Walk in faith, think like a god, speak like a god and by all means act as one too. Introduce yourself to everyone and everything around and expect the amazing works of God to flow through you. We live in a new day and in truth “saviours shall come to Mount Zion to judge the mountains of Esau, and the kingdom shall be the Lord’s”, Obadiah 21. God bless your journey into signs and wonders.

ave you ever noticed that it’s usually much easier to start a project than to actually finish it? The truth is, anyone can start projects. The world is full of juststarted projects that looked great at the time but were never completed. There’s always a certain amount of excitement that comes with starting something. People rally around you and encourage you. There’s an energy that always comes when you’re first starting out. But it takes a real man or woman of excellence and determination to bring something through to the finish— especially when you’re trying to do it in obedience to God. The last thing the devil wants you to do is be an obedient Christian. He will try everything he can to distract you and discourage you from finishing what you’ve started. But it takes godly determination to bring things all the way through to the finish. If we want to be people of excellence and integrity, we not only need to start things, but we need to finish them as well. Whether it’s the small stuff like cleaning your closet or organizing the junk drawer in your kitchen, or it’s something big like starting a new business or ministry. You have to start with the small stuff, and the way you handle the small things is the way you’ll handle the bigger things. There’s a great story about finishing strong in 1 Kings 18. In this passage, Elijah prayed for it not to rain and the Bible says that it did not rain for over three years. Then Elijah prayed for it to rain again and he declared to the wicked King Ahab that it would— even though there was no outward sign of rain on the way. The Bible says that he got down on his knees and began to pray, and he sent his servant to the mountain top to see if a storm was coming. His servant returned to say that there was no rain on the way. Elijah told his servant to go again, but there was still nothing. He told his servant to go back up to the mountain top seven times. Finally, on the seventh time he saw the rain cloud on the way. But what if he would’ve stopped praying after the second time or the third time? What if he got discouraged and stopped after the fifth or the sixth time? I think it took all seven times, and I think seven is just a representative

number of doing something the perfect number of times until you are able to finish the job with excellence. Today is a great day to make up your mind and say, “I’m going to be the person God wants me to be! I’m going to do what God wants me to do! I will not give up!” Of course, you must realize that it’s easy to commit to something when there’s no pain or discomfort, and you will have opposition. Remember, you have an enemy who doesn’t want you to finish—he doesn’t want you to succeed. He doesn’t want you to make progress. But if you’ll refuse to give up, there’s not a thing that he can do. When you are determined to obey God and follow His commands you’ll live life intentionally…on purpose! You’ll be able to say to the devil, “I’m not going to quit! I’m going to keep trying until I finish the things that God has ordained me to do. I will finish strong!” God wants you to finish and He is ready to give you all His power and strength to accomplish those things that He has for you to do. He’s not going to give up on you no matter what. He will always be there cheering you on. If you really want to be ALL you can be, you’re going to need to be a strong finisher and not just an enthusiastic starter. Anyone can start, but it takes a determined person not to become lazy, lethargic or passive and to push through the opposition of the enemy to succeed. It takes a person of excellence to strive for the finish line no matter what. But I know you can do it! You can be ALL God created you to be!

Finding Stability In An Unstable World Written by Richard Roberts

hen we look around the world today, there seems to be instability everywhere…so much, in fact, that it’s easy to think you and I may be dealing with situations that no one has ever faced before. But according to the Bible and the story of Joseph in Genesis 37-50, that’s just not true. If anyone ever had a reason to become unstable and even bitter, it was Joseph. Just look at what happened in his life.

And if slavery wasn’t bad enough… Joseph was bought by Potiphar, a powerful Egyptian who put him in charge of his household. But in the midst of what had begun to be an abundant blessing for Joseph, Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce him. When he refused her advances, she accused him of trying to rape her, and Joseph was thrown in prison, though he had done nothing wrong. How did Joseph keep his sanity? How did he keep from becoming angry at God and filled with hate in the crazy, unstable world he was living in?

Dysfunctional families are nothing new Joseph’s father Jacob had children by several wives, which caused jealousy and competition in the home. Joseph’s mother died when he was young. Jacob favored Joseph over his brothers and gave him a beautiful, multicolored coat, causing great envy among his brothers. In Genesis 37, we read that Joseph began having unusual dreams, including a dream where his brothers all bowed down to him. But rather than loving their brother and listening to his dreams, Joseph’s brothers grew even more jealous and bitter. They rejected his dreams, and hated him so much that they threw him into a pit, sold him into slavery in Egypt, and told their father he’d been killed.

Joseph refused to get bitter One reason I believe Joseph had emotional stability was that no matter what happened to him, he kept his eyes on the Lord and refused to get bitter. When his brothers sold him into slavery, he didn’t get bitter. When he was thrown into jail for a crime he didn’t commit, he didn’t get bitter. The Lord said in Romans 12:19 kjv, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” Why? Because He’s the only One who can absorb the backlash that vengeance brings. Joseph understood that, and he didn’t waste his time trying to get even with his enemies. No matter what people did to Joseph, he just kept moving forward with God. I believe Joseph knew God had a purpose for his life, and he trusted Him to turn what the devil meant for his harm into his eventual good.

He used his gifts to bless others Joseph had a gift from God to interpret dreams. One day Joseph interpreted a dream for Pharaoh, and Pharaoh was so impressed that he made Joseph the number two man in his government. When Joseph’s family ran out of food during a famine, they wound up at his doorstep, on their knees, asking for food. And Joseph’s dreams came to pass! Joseph’s brothers were terrified when he revealed who he was. But Joseph held no bitterness in his heart. He said, “You planned evil against me but God used those same plans for my good, as you see all around you right now—life for many people…You have nothing to fear; I’ll take care of you and your children” (Genesis 50:19-21 MSG). We can have what Joseph had Joseph not only survived the instability surrounding him, he flourished. And I believe when you and I stay focused on God, as Joseph did, instead of the circumstances in our lives, we can have what Joseph had…and we can find stability in the unstable world around us. eeing the majesty of the Temple Mount with the narrow streets of Jerusalem on our TV screens, we have a sense that this area is very important. We feel that it sets the scene for Armageddon, the rise of the Anti Christ and the return of the Lord. Now we all know that we are living in the End Times right! Wrong! You would be surprised how many people fail to link world events to the Bible and yet so many prophecies have been fulﬁlled in our lifetime. Both the huge amount of travel in our day and the Internet were predicted in the book of Daniel where it says: “many will go back and forth and knowledge will increase” Daniel 12:4. The issue of the End Times was important to Jesus’ disciples who came to him on one occasion and asked: “What will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” in Matthew Chapter 24. Jesus said that there would be wars and rumours of wars. In the last 100 years there have been two World Wars, the Vietnam War, Korean War, Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. Jesus also said that there would be famines and earthquakes i.e. major world events would happen like the Great Chinese famine 1959 to 1961 which killed 30 million people and the 2004 Asian Tsunami that killed more than 226,000 people. He talked about the persecution of the Church and even satellite television is in the prediction of the Gospel going to the nations! He then went on to say that the most signiﬁcant

sign of the End Times and his return would be the sign of the ﬁg tree, which his disciples immediately understood as Israel, see Jeremiah 25: 5-7, and its blossoming i.e. its rebirth. In fact, in the book of Acts the disciples ask Jesus whether he was at that time going to restore the nation of Israel. Now, after 2000 years Israel is again a sovereign nation. This happened in 1948! Now, how come the Temple Mount is so important in the End Times? This is because Jesus talks about a world leader coming to the rebuilt Temple in Matthew 24:15. The amazing thing is that this could not have happened before 1967 when Jerusalem came under the control of Israel! In Revelation Chapter 13 the world leader also forced everyone to receive a mark on the right hand or on his forehead, so that no-one could buy or sell unless he had the mark. Whilst there is some debate as to what the mark is, it is clear that it will be required to carry out any type of economic activity. What is so shocking is that the recently introduced UK Identity Card has the image of a beast over the photo. The card also has an electronic chip containing scans of all 10 ﬁngerprints and a digital photo. Now, it could be argued that this electronic chip be implanted rather than being on a card which could be lost or stolen. UK Government Ministers are already working on a plan to implant “machine readable” microchips under the skin of thousands of offenders as part of an expansion of the electronic tagging scheme that would create more space in British jails.

World Leaders meeting at the London’s Excel Centre for the G20 Summit activated the International Monetary Funds power to create money, $750.00 billion of it! In doing so they are putting into play a world currency. What is so scary is that at the end of the G20 meetings, UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown walked on to the stage and announced to the waiting mass media the emergence of a New World Order i.e. the One World Government. The New World Order will create a vacuum for a strong messianic type leader. We know that the Bible says this Leader will go to the Temple Mount where “he sets himself up in Gods temple proclaiming himself to be God,” 2 Thessalonians 2:4. Street Preacher Warned By The Police

Evangelist Andy Robertson who preaches in the open-air in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, has been told by the police that he would be committing a criminal offence by saying that homosexuality is a sin. The Open Air Mission worker said he has never mentioned homosexuality in his outdoor preaching. The local council sent a letter to Mr Robertson saying that they wanted him to stop preaching because they had received “complaints”. They stated that Mr Robertson was breaking the law by preaching in open-air and that the Police

would be called if he didn’t stop preaching. “I started to record what I was preaching so I had a record of exactly what I was saying,” said Mr Robertson. When the police arrived they told Mr Robertson his display boards were breaking a bye-law. They said they had received complaints that he was making “homophobic” comments and that it was an offence to say that homosexuality was a sin. Mr Robertson added: “I need free speech protection so that I can do my job and don’t have to be harassed by the police if I say I disagree with homosexual practices.” At the time of going to press, an ammendment to the Coroners and Justice Bill, which includes free speech and euthanasia, was due to be voted on in the House of Lords. Call To Pray For North Korean Christian Prisoners The charity Open Doors is asking Church members to pray for their fellow believers imprisoned in North Korea. In North Korea there are an estimated 50,000 to 70,000 Christians being detained in prison camps; in total there are approximately 400,000 believers in North Korea. North Koreans can be imprisoned for virtually any state-deﬁned crime, such as being a Christian or making a negative comment about the regime. Punishment is not limited to the offender, but to three generations of the offender’s family. The food shortage combined with the

hard labour required of prisoners means they die from starvation and from being overworked. Some resort to eating snakes and rats. Open Doors is running an advocacy campaign to highlight the plight of North Korean refugees and their forced repatriation by China. For details see www.opendoorsuk.org

Let Us Help The Church must be involved in restoring our country’s values. That was the message from the Evangelical Alliance (E.A.) to the Prime Minister in a letter and prayer handed to Downing Street. The E.A.’s new General Director Steve Clifford has challenged Gordon Brown to invite the Church to practically contribute to the policy dialogue on the solutions to the credit crunch. Mr Clifford said: “We are asking for a proper dialogue, rather than token gestures, so that churches can play a substantive role in determining policy.” He said churches across the country are responding actively in their communities to help those struggling with debt, and that the E. A.’s Life Beyond Debt campaign is looking at the contribution Christian values and practical help can make to the economic future. Victims Of Climate Change

Governments of the world are being asked to come up with an agreement to collectively tackle climate change effectively as a new report claims people are already dying from its affects. Christian Aid has launched a campaign calling for action in advance of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change being held in Copenhagen in December this year. The Global Humanitarian Forum’s

recently published Human Impact Report calculates climate change is causing 300,000 deaths a year and it could rise to 500,000 deaths by 2030. Koﬁ Annan, President of the Forum said: “Climate change is a silent human crisis. Yet it is the greatest emerging humanitarian challenge of our time. Already today, it causes suffering to hundreds of millions of people, most of whom are not even aware that they are victims of climate change. We need an international agreement to contain climate change and reduce its widespread suffering.” Christian Aids campaigners say: “It is essential that agreement both on emission cuts and support for the developing world is reached in Copenhagen as it is anticipated that

governments will then need two years to ratify whatever deal emerges.” In a poll commissioned by Christian Aid from YouGov, 77 per cent of 2127 people questioned, wanted the British Government to take more action to reduce carbon emissions. Ninety per cent of those asked said they had already taken steps to reduce their own carbon emissions. Meanwhile, the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams said: “Christians and people of all faiths should take a lead in lobbying for more action.” He has asked churches to pray for the planet. The Climate Rush campaign group organised a bike ride through London in June to call for action to tackle climate change. See www.christianaid.org.uk

United Support For Sri Lanka Sinahlese and Tamil Christians are calling us to pray for Sri Lanka and to donate to funds being raised for relief agencies. The military campaign may be over, but there are now more than 250,000 civilians displaced in government camps across Sri Lanka. They are already traumatised and their needs are overwhelming. In excess of 70,000 people were killed during the conﬂict. The Methodist Church is appealing for people to help alleviate the suffering caused by the conﬂict by donating to its Fund for World Mission. The church is working with local churches in Sri Lanka to deliver immediate aid and relief. A £15,000 grant from their Fund will be sent to Sri Lankan Church leaders to help assist victims affected by the Sri Lankan humanitarian crisis and to take initiatives to build peace. The gift follows an earlier £20,000 Fund for World Mission grant made in October. Meanwhile, Revd Ebenezer Joseph, President of the Methodist Church in Sri Lanka, said: “The willingness of the Methodist people in the UK really strengthens us. The demands are increasing as the number of refugees rises. “ Some of the Evangelical Alliance UK’s member bodies are already working with their partners in Sri Lanka.

Steve Clifford, General Director of the Evangelical Alliance said: “After 25 years of civil war, feelings are intense on all sides and there are deep and complex issues to be addressed in the search for lasting peace. Noah’s Arc Venture A Bible-size replica of Noah’s Ark has been built by three billionaire brothers in Hong Kong. The 450-foot-long reinforced concrete hull accommodates 67 pairs of fibreglass animals, a Noah’s Ark luxury hotel, a restaurant, exhibition hall and children’s museum. The Kwok brothers, the sons of the Sun Hung Kai Properties developer, have been planning their venture on a small island near Hong Kong for 17 years. It opened recently. Another replica already exists in Amsterdam, Holland, but Joan Huiber’s Ark is one-fifth of the size of the specifications given to Noah by God in Genesis. Colin Urquhart has spoken to TV4Life’s Sally Anderson-Wai about his new translation of the New Testament.

olin Urquhart is well-known across the world for his apostolic vision and he knows when the Lord tells him to do something, he must do it. Recently the Lord told him to produce a modern translation of the New Testament and he has translated it in between all of his usual work in the last two years. “The Truth New Testament” gives a fresh insight on God’s word, without moving away from the true meaning. “This translation was done out of obedience to the Lord. I never thought I would ever do this or expected to do it, but God laid it on my heart to do it,” said Colin. He was involved in the Charismatic Renewal movement in the 1960s and 1970s and moved from being an Anglican vicar in Luton to a speaker travelling the world. He is recognized as an apostle and his ministry, Kingdom Faith, provides vision and direction for a growing number of churches nationally and internationally. Colin explained what makes his translation unique. “There are a lot of new Bibles about but they all come from America. There isn’t a translation quite like this. I was using the Greek texts. I ﬁrst of all translated what the words mean and then I tried to draw out the meaning from the text. The idea is that 30 jul/aug

people will understand what they are reading and will then be able to put it into practice. “It has been an awesome responsibility to do that whilst maintaining accuracy to the original text. I believe God wanted a version translated by a preacher of the word.” “I want people to get a general understanding of the word so they can use it alongside their usual bibles. “The Message” is very edifying but it has departed a long way from the Greek. I have tried to come halfway and I wanted it to remain accurate.” Colin, who has also written over 40 books, said he is currently working on an annotated version of “The Truth New Testament” which will provide explanations where needed. He said he has no intentions of translating the Old Testament. “Only if the Lord tells me to” he added. ith all the turmoil happening around us, right now is a critical time in your faith walk with the Lord. Don’t allow yourself to be distracted by bad reports or the naysayers who expect insufﬁciency and lack. When you come to the place where you know God is your Provider, you can be victorious in the midst of troubled times! The threats of doom and gloom are not for you. This world’s economic system isn’t your provider nor is your job your provider. In Genesis, we read the story of Abraham who was called by God to sacriﬁce his son Isaac. We are told that as they were walking to the altar, Isaac asked, “Where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham’s answer is the same answer we need today. “And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb…” Genesis 22:8 Abraham had reached the place in his life where he… “…did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.” Romans 4:20-21 He had come to know after all of these years, that God is the Provider.

For forty years now I have had the privilege to help people lay hold of this truth and know God as their Provider. I have seen God be the Provider time and time again. Throughout the Bible, both men and women alike came to know Him as the One who provides. For a child of God to never know God as their Provider is not natural. David once declared: “The Lord is good to all,” Psalm 145:9, “He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them.” Psalm 145:19 He’s simply saying, God will provide In another place he says: “I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread.” Psalm 37:25 What’s he telling us? God will provide! Paul found this to be true in his life as well. That’s why he boldly declared: “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 When Abraham first spoke these words, it set a “precedent”. For the rest of time and throughout eternity, the universe would know that God will provide. Abraham was the first to state it but he certainly wasn’t to be the last. Men have said it throughout the history of

mankind and in my own life I have been able to boldly declare God will provide! What about you? Has He ever met a need in your life? Has He ever done what others said was impossible? Has He ever come through for you when the devil was screaming “No way” at you? If so, then He was just endeavoring to prove to you that He is the provider The dictionary deﬁnes provider as one who furnishes, supplies, and procures that which is desired, wanted, or needed. God is our provider! It makes no difference how impossible our needs may appear, He will provide. All He’s asking from us is the same thing that He asked of Abraham – trust. Abraham trusted God; He dared to believe God and God brought it to pass in his life. I have learned to trust God. I have dared to believe what God has said. And the great thing is, He’s never let me down. In times like these, we need a Provider! Dare to believe today that God is your Provider. Dare to believe that not only He can, but He will. Blessing Upon

Blessing by Jonathan Miller

“Then they came to the Valley of Eshcol, and there cut down a branch with one cluster of grapes; they carried it between two of them on a pole….” Num 13:23

hese were “no ordinary grapes.” These grapes could not be carried by one individual. They were too big and too heavy. These grapes had to be carried on a pole resting on the shoulders of two men. These were extraordinary grapes! We are in the season of “no ordinary grapes,” no ordinary blessing, no ordinary favour, no ordinary provision. The blessing God is releasing upon His body is so great that it is overwhelming, overflowing, and overtaking. It is bigger than any one man can carry. It is bigger than you. It is bigger than me. It must be carried on the shoulders of His entire church. When Moses sent the spies into Canaan, he gave them a very important instruction. He told them to “be of good courage.” No matter what they saw, they were to see it through the eyes of courage. Moses knew that what they were about to see was bigger than they were and if they didn’t see it with courage, it would change their perception of themselves. When 10 of the 12 spies saw the giants in the land, they failed to see through the eyes of courage. This changed their perception. They reported, “we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.” The enemy will always see you the way you see yourself! Regardless of what you see, see it in courage. Big grapes attract big giants. Big devils guard big treasures. If you have been going through some stuff lately,

be encouraged. The magnitude of your blessing is measured by the magnitude of your opposition. “Be of good courage!” Your blessing is “no ordinary blessing.” Only two spies, Caleb and Joshua, saw through the eyes of courage. Caleb was from the tribe of Judah, which means “praise.” Joshua was from the tribe of Ephraim, which means “double fruit in the land of affliction.” God makes us fruitful in times of trouble. Don’t allow your crisis to cause you to lose perspective of who you are. Don’t take on the identity of your circumstances. If you are sick, don’t see yourself as sick. In the midst of a down economy, don’t see yourself as broke. God will make you fruitful in the land of affliction. Joshua (double fruit) stood with Caleb (praise). When you are going through affliction, when you are facing giants, when you are going through stuff, put your feet down and stand with praise! Joshua inherited “double fruit” when he stood with praise. “And all these blessing shall come on you, and overtake you…” Deut. 28:2. This is not talking about “a” blessing here and there. This is talking about being overwhelmed by blessing in all areas of your life. These are blessings that keeps coming and coming and coming and coming until you are overtaken, overwhelmed, and overflowing. In Genesis 41, we read about this kind of blessing. In the midst of a famine and captivity, the Lord blessed Joseph. For whatever reason, God chooses to

ridiculously bless His people in difficult times. God waits to move until you’re in the lion’s den, the fiery furnace, at the Red Sea, or in a time of famine. Joseph was a captive in a foreign land which experienced seven years of extreme famine. But, he was elevated, put in a high place, over all the land of Egypt. In Genesis 41:49, we read, “Joseph gathered very much grain, as the sand of the sea, until he stopped counting, for it was immeasurable.” Joseph was blessed beyond measure! The corn kept coming and coming and coming until he could no longer count it. This is blessing that is so accelerated and abundant that our natural mind can no longer process it. This is “Blessing Upon Blessing!” Brace yourselves. “All these blessings shall come on you, and overtake you!” Blessing upon blessing upon blessing upon blessing coming so quickly that you will not have an ability to quantify it. n John’s Gospel Jesus said that He appointed us to go and bear fruit and that our fruit should remain. In the context of our money and our giving into the work of the Kingdom, I believe that all ﬁnances when sown with the correct motivation will be as Jesus said “treasure in Heaven”. Our money spent in the natural world e.g. on furniture, cars, homes etc is temporal. 2 Corinthians 4:18 says, “while we do not look at the things which are seen but the things which are not seen. For the things

which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” Money sown into the Kingdom of God (the unseen) has eternity in it, in other words it is everlasting and working continually over people and nations which will someday be reached by our giving. Think about this (selah) how many people today are praying to God for something in their lives. The prostitute praying that she will be rescued from her life of control, the drug addict for rehabilitation, the abused woman

praying for refuge. The only true lasting hope for the world in these situations is the Church of Jesus Christ and our tithes and offerings are the vehicle which will be used to reach their world. This is truly fruit which remains and I believe with all of my heart that all of us will meet those in eternity who were helped through our ﬁnancial support. Terry Quinn of Practical Prosperity. Cheerful or F earful Giving? “God loves a Cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7

K, let’s start with a chunky chunk of Bible today: “The person who plants a little will have a small harvest, but the person who plants a lot will have a big harvest. Each of you should give as you have decided in your heart to give. You should not be sad when you give, and you should not give because you feel forced to give. God loves the person who gives happily... God can give you more blessings than you need. Then you will always have plenty of everything - enough to give to every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:6-8 NCV). Are you a cheerful giver or a fearful giver? You’re probably not a greedy person. You might really want to help God’s work. But do you usually look after yourself ﬁrst? Why not? Most people do! Well imagine a farmer, who, for fear of

getting hungry, eats his seed for breakfast and leaves nothing to plant in his fields. It’s daft, right?! So don’t scoff the seed that God wants to be sown for your future harvest. When you make giving your first priority, you don’t have to fear. Jesus said: “Put God’s work first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours as well” (Matthew 6:33 CEV). When you get a God’s-eye view on your cash the thing to fear isn’t giving away too much, it’s planting too little!

“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” (Eph. 5:15-16)

Continued from last issue... e alert! Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.” Sleeping connotes lack of watchfulness and prayerlessness. In the parable of the wheat and the tares (Matt. 13:24-30) Jesus said while men slept, the enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. We can’t afford to be spiritually careless. Peter admonishes us to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8) Don’t give Satan room in your thought life, in your utterances, in your emotions, in your marriage, and so forth. Keep him out by being sober and vigilant.

Understand what the will of God is “Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” Some other translations say, “Making the most of every opportunity.” If we are going to live carefully in these evil times so that we don’t become victims or casualties, we must learn to make the most of every opportunity. The encouragement we get from these scriptures is that time can be bought back. Receive this, if you have given up on mistakes of the past. Stop thinking about what could have been and what should have been. You might not be able to change the past, but you can make up for those mistakes by making the most of the present opportunities that are being presented to you. It is a winning attitude that you must imbibe.

Be filled with the Spirit “Do not be drunk with wine… but be filled with the Spirit.” (Eph. 5:18) Whatever we are full of is what will control us. If we are full of wine, it will control the way you walk, what you say and what you do. The same way the Holy Spirit will control your walk, your utterances and your actions if you are full of Him. Jesus was full of the Spirit and was therefore led of the Spirit. So, if you are full of the Spirit, you will be led by the Spirit and you won’t fall into Satan’s hands; you will learn to overcome him. The will of God becomes easier to know and to do when we are filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit knows the mind of God and makes intercession for us according to His will. (Rom. 8:27) The

Holy Spirit, as our Helper, helps us to do the will of God. Jesus baptised us with the Holy Spirit, but it is our responsibility to stay ﬁlled with the Spirit. Maintain healthy relationships Relationships are designed as coverings. In the tabernacle of Moses, there were multiple coverings, not just one and that is still God’s pattern. For example, a husband covers his wife, the wife covers her husband; parents cover the children, and the children also cover the parents, etc. Any opening in our vital relationships leaves an opening for the devil to come in to steal, kill and destroy. For instance, the Bible says that where there is strife every evil work is present. (James 3:16) Also, we shouldn’t let the sun go down on our anger, so as not to give Satan a foothold! (Eph. 4:26, 27) God bless you.

Why Great And Glorious? Yfriday are taking the Christian music scene by storm with what promises to be the best-ever album, “Great and Glorious”. They were pictured on the cover of the very first TV4Life magazine in January 2001. The lead singer Ken Riley found time in his busy publicity schedule to speak to TV4Life’s Sally Anderson-Wai.

uccess in the music business is often measured in terms of how many records you sell and how many awards you win. Yfriday is a band of four northern men who are achieving both for God’s glory. In 2008, Ken Riley, the band’s lead vocalist and songwriter was the first Christian artist to receive an ASCAP Award for “Everlasting God,” his song co-writen with Brenton Brown. The song itself is filled with a passion for the Lord and is sung by millions of Christians across the world. Despite such success in worldly terms, Ken Riley is a man on fire for the Lord, with a heart set on doing His will. He is full of humility, firmly grounded in what success really is in Christian terms. “I get as much pleasure leading the worship at my home church in Whitley Bay with a congregation of 120 people as I do playing before thousands,” said the father-of-three. Great and Glorious is a powerful new CD from a God-centred band. “The title song has my children tapping in their seats and I awoke with my heart singing it in the night.” But what does it take to write a song of such calibre? “It was the last song on the album. I wrote “Great and Glorious” over the Christmas holidays. I studied the subject and because of the research and thinking about the topic it only took 20 minutes to write. I finished the lyrics 10 minutes before singing it in the studio. “ I am delighted with the end result. I think “Great and Glorious” is YFriday’s best album yet. It’s full of songs I feel really proud of. It is written for the church to use as a resource to sing songs together on Sundays. To help the church 44 jul/aug

sing to our great and glorious God. “There is also a DVD included, with me teaching the songs and all the chords are included.” Ken said he gets his inspiration from different sources. He said: “Sometimes God really drops a song into my heart. The song on our new album “You Will Not Steal Our Children”, is a song like that. It came in to my mind from nowhere. It’s not just about children. It’s about anything. We can say to the dark forces: “In the name of Jesus let my people go”.” The band was formed in the 90s and played at an event called WhyFriday? Which was organised by Tyneside Youth For Christ. The lads have seen thousands, if not millions of people saved across the globe through the Holy Spirit anointing their music. Ken said: “We have this ability to pull everybody together and that’s our strength. We have seen amazing things happen. People getting saved and people getting healed. “Sometimes I get pains in parts of my body and then shout out those parts and people have been healed.” And what is his advice to a new Christian musician? “Serve God with your gift. Become as good as you can,” said Ken. “Realise you are there to serve the church and not the other way around. Write song’s to glorify God and not to exhibit your talents and God will raise you up.” It’s easy to see why God has raised up Yfriday and as for their new album “Great and Glorious,” judge for yourself! Gospel Festival & Awards The biggest gospel festival ever was a dream come true for one boy and a great day of worship for thousands of others. CeCe Winans came away with the award for the Best Gospel Album and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Oraclez Gospel Festival held at Wembley Arena. The other Oraclez Gospel Awards May 2009 were: Best International Caribbean Artist – Chevelle Franklyn; Best UK Artist – Muyiwa; Best Young Ministry – Pure Praise – Duraye Palmer; Best Active Ministry – Ruach Ministries and Best Gospel Single – Kirk Franklin. Among the audience was Matthew Nicholls who suffers from a Neurological disorder which left him blind and wheelchair bound. The 12year-old had always wanted “to go to a gospel music concert” and to meet his favourite singer. Matthew not only got his wish but presented Kirk Franklin with his award.

The first BigChurchDayOut was such a resounding success that the organisers are already starting to plan the 2010 event. Singer Michael W. Smith gave his testimony at the sell-out get-together which fulfilled a prophesy at Wiston House, West Sussex. Fifteen thousand people attended and another 5,000 were turned away from the gate. Despite traffic delays getting there, the crowd was blessed with some outstanding performances from YFriday, Israel Houghton, Delirious? Cathy Burton, the King’s Chamber Orchestra and Graham Kendrick to name a few. Michael W. Smith said: “The Lord spoke to me. From Bruises To Blessings Sonia Faulkner is a shining example of a woman transformed by the Lord. Few people would realise this fruitful woman was badly abused all of her life before giving her heart to Jesus.

ne of the most regular customers of World Shopping Incorporated is a pensioner. Sonia Faulkner frequently orders bibles and Christian literature to give to new converts. But don’t be mistaken, this 68-year-old isn’t materially rich, but she lives wisely and modestly in order to have the funds to bless other people. “Anyone who has just come to the Lord, whether they are 60 or 70, 13 or 14, whoever they are, I believe warrant the gift of a Bible or a book,” said Sonia, who is an avid viewer of the Christian channels. “Sometimes people don’t know much about the Lord when they become Christians, I just want to help them grow.” The former clerical worker of Ramsgate, Kent, knows just how God can transform a person, whatever their start in life. Sonia was battered, bruised and abused before coming to the Lord. Her mother gave her away to at birth. At aged six, Sonia was returned to her family, but was always treated as the outcast. If anything went wrong she was blamed for it and was beaten by her mother. Sonia, who is recovering from a brain tumour, said: “It was a continual life of being beaten. It was then that I asked who Jesus was. He kept his hand on me no matter what I did. If I let a tear fall on my cheek I got beaten 10 times worse.” At this tender age while lying in bed one evening, Sonia says Jesus appeared to her. “No one else could see him but I believe he’s been looking after me all of my life.”

When Sonia was about 11-years-old her mother ran off with another man and Sonia and her five siblings were sent to boarding school where she was beaten and raped. “I was told if I complained or told anyone the rest of my family would be hurt. I found out just 10 years ago that the rest of my family were also abused. The perpetrator was sent to prison.” When she eventually married, Sonia soon discovered her husband was a wife abuser. “I was married for five years and every day was a living hell. I had wanted six children. The first one died after three days and I lost everyone of them after that until Denis, my sixth,” she said. Her consultant was so concerned for Sonia and her unborn child that he made her stay in hospital for her full pregnancy. The beatings continued after they went home and Denis grew up hearing his mother being beaten.“People sometimes ask me why I put up with it, but when you stand next to the fire you get used to the heat and you don’t realise you are getting burnt,” she said. Eventually, her husband left her for another woman. He later snatched Denis from her and she never saw her son for 10 years. “It was like he had died but there was no body,” said Sonia. Despite everything, Denis is successful and lives in Australia. While in another abusive relationship at the age of 42, Sonia went to a medium in the hope of contacting someone who loved her.

“I had made up my mind that I was going home to take my own life,” said Sonia. It was at that point that she had another vision of the Lord Jesus Christ. A week later Sonia was riding a scooter when involved in a road accident and was left disabled after sustaining multiple injuries. She realised she must have survived for a reason and while in hospital recovering a minister gave her a leaﬂet and she said the Sinner’s prayer. “Asking God into my heart changed my life. All of the emotional pain that I had locked up and hidden disappeared straight away. Later I went for deliverance ministry and prayer at an Agape Church fellowship and that also helped. “I have a lighter and happier heart now. The Lord has performed a miracle on me,” said Sonia who believes becoming a Christian has saved her soul and her life!

When Jesus made this declaration, He knew that the church would face challenges but if we are rooted in the Word, victory is guaranteed. The key to building the Kingdom is based on the revelation of Jesus Christ that you have. God has given us the authority to overcome all the powers of darkness; those who know the truth overcome the world and its sin. Christ is building His church, men and women who allow Him in. These are those who chose to sanctify their body through the Word are being fashioned into the vessels of honour for good works. God is the Potter and we are the clay. We have entered the perilous times and some people are building their own kingdom (on the sand) while others are building on the rock (righteousness). Those building on sand are preaching a gospel based on philosophy and manmade doctrine (demonic). They make light of every command of God replacing the Word of God with lies.

These preachers are corrupt, boasters and full of covetousness; they love the world and the mention of the Lord’s return infuriates them. They do not want the Lord to return so that their misguided and misconstrued way of life will remain uninterrupted. They are like the Pharisees and Sadducees who felt threatened by the presence of Jesus Christ. Although, they are surrounded by both the spiritually and physically lame, sick, oppressed and wounded people, they are not bothered (hypocrites). They are leaders who are out to extort money from the people who have come to them for help. No wonder those who are trapped in their domain of idolatry also have corrupt and twisted minds like them. Read Matthew 23: 13-15. Jesus says, “It is the Spirit that gives life: the flesh profits nothing”, John 6: 63. Repent! Get back to your first love, seek the Kingdom and its righteousness and God will command people to bless you. If the raven can bring bread to Prophet Elijah, God can do much more for His church. Those who build on the rock are God’s generals; they are rooted and grounded in the Word through perseverance. These men and women of God have through patience and determination received the revelation of who Christ is as Peter did and their trust in God is unwavering. They have gone through shakings in their marriages and finances, yet they did not compromise by divorcing their spouses neither did they go to the world

to beg for money or mislead God’s church. They pulled through by faith and God restored their marriages and wealth just like He did to Abraham. God is the One that opens a door that no man can shut and shuts a door that no man can open. In 1987, I was in a vision, the Lord took me through the clouds, as we passed from nation to nation, I saw people coming off the streets and going into the places where the believers were worshipping God. They were coming in troops and as they came, they were lifting up their hands in total surrender to Christ. 2010 will mark the beginning of the harvest of souls. The world is about to witness a mighty outpouring of the Spirit of God. God calls it the “Hurricane” (“The Wind of My Spirit”). The shaking has already begun. This revival is not orchestrated by any man or woman, but it is a divine visitation of the Holy Spirit. Just as God sent me to warn the church and the world of the fall of money two years before it manifested, He has also sent me to prophesy that as the recession is coming to an end in 2014, a drought and famine will follow immediately afterwards.
