The Best is Here The votes have been cast, the ballots counted and the 2012 winners chosen for The River Reporter’s Readers’ Choice Best Awards (fondly referred to as The Best). The Best highlights, you guessed it, the best of our community—the people, places and things that are worth seeking out, or perhaps discovering for yourself for the first time. Whether it’s the best place to shop, or the best service provided, or the best place to visit, The Best is a well-established resource for finding the best providers of all your essential goods and service needs. Best of all, the winners are selected by you, for you. And when we say you, we mean you the readers and the consumers. This is your handy guide to use, and it will enable you to get the best that the region—Sullivan, Delaware, Orange, Wayne and Pike counties—has to offer. We especially want to thank our readers for sharing your own list of personal favorites with all of the rest of us. This year is a year of firsts and an achievement of two goals: online voting and the planning of a series of gettogethers focused on supporting local businesses. This includes not only consumers shopping locally, but also local businesses supporting local businesses as we work together to grow the economy of the Upper Delaware Region. We’re planning events throughout the year that we hope will build on the Upper Delaware “brand,” because on both sides of our remarkable river, we have so much to offer.

Underneath it all The Best is a marketing tool, a mechanism for showcasing what we’ve got. And one of the best things is that The Best gets the word out about the availability of great products, business, services, places and more. Even if you have lived here for many years, The Best offers a fresh perspective and may show you just what you were looking for. We hope The Best will encourage and foster creative collaboration. As you can imagine, in the weeks before The Best arrives on your newsstands, The River Reporter staff has been hard at work. It’s an exciting time, full of energy, and we the advertising staff for joyously making phone calls to the hundreds of winners, to Production Manager Amanda Reed for putting it all together, and to you, the reader, for casting your vote. Thanks also to our many advertisers on whose businesses we all depend to support our local economy. Most exciting is that among all of this year’s winners, you will find both old favorites and discoveries that will become your brand new favorites. Flip through the pages and discover restaurants, shops, services and more, and—don’t be shy—you can already start thinking about your vote for The Best of 2013 and together we make our region the best, ever.
