e are very grateful for all of the people we have met because we ride motorcycles. Sometimes it seems like the whole world has gone mad but this biker community and family of friends gives me hope that there still are normal people out there with some common sense still left in them. Our American culture is in some deep trouble and has been for some time. We just do not seem to have the courage to be honest with ourselves or to be able to look beyond our little bubble at the world around us. I wonder if it is me that thinks that a majority of the tragedies that have been unfolding lately in this country – are they self-induced? I for one do not think having high school kids influence policy is a good idea at all. I remember back a long, long time ago when I was in high school, I thought I was pretty smart too. But it turns out now that I am in my 50’s, I have come to realize that I actually knew nothing about how the world operates. I now realize that very few of us do, but life experience will teach most of us a few lessons along the way and although we may not be much smarter we have our hard earned wisdom to lean on. The school shootings that have happened in this country are completely unacceptable and every level of government should be held accountable by ‘We The People’. Government’s first responsibility is for the safety of its citizens and our children should be first on that list to protect. Adding more laws against guns will do nothing to protect our kids in that respect! If we all knew that someone bent on harming kids at school would encounter immediate and severe repercussions before they got in the door then none of the crazies out there would attempt to do it. Schools are well known as gun free zones and sadly have become easy targets because of that. I am tired of the blame not being attributed to the real problem. People want to blame mental illness or guns or bullying or whatever excuse of the day that some main stream media reporter lazily tosses out there. But if we were honest with ourselves, we could see the decay of our moral compass as a people. Where are our values? It seems like less and less people every day value others’ lives and wellbeing, they only care about their own. The true problem is going to take a bit of time to fix but we all need to do some soul searching and find a way first as individuals and then hopefully it will be possible to come together as a nation once again. In the meantime, secure our damn schools now! Before this all happens again while our great public servants debate over background checks and how much to tax ammo. As if any of their half-witted meaningless platitudes will stop any of this from occurring again. And no we should not arm teachers. This will require professionally trained people dedicated to accomplishing this task in a responsible way. Ex-military who go through additional specific training to do this within a school environment to accomplish this mission comes to mind first. Know anybody who could fit that bill? In this community, we all know several for sure and that is just in this small community of bikers. Thank you - I really needed to get that off my chest. Now, let’s ride! RIDE FREE RIDE OFTEN

RIDE DESTINATION OF A LIFETIME:

Minneapolis Super Bowl LII Pink belts out the National Anthem

A

s previously mentioned, we had a hard time getting out and about around the first of the year. With the holidays and other commitments, just wasn’t a whole lot of time for much else. Last month, things were a lot better. It wasn’t really a ride destination, since I drove, but I made my way to the Super Bowl in Minnesota in February. Let’s call it a destination of a lifetime. Quite the experience! The irony in this is that because of the hate-America kneelers, I don’t even watch the NFL anymore. Come on XFL! But, our son is a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan and the last month or so of the season, we were kidding with each other that, if the Eagles made it, we would go to the Super Bowl. Not even thinking that this was a reality, we made jokes about second mortgages, or selling body parts (kidney anyone?) to afford it. Well, the Eagles made it and our son’s wife insisted that he go. She told him to make it a bucket list thing with dad. Cindy gave me a thumbs up, so off we went!

Minnesota Twins Locker Room

My mother lives in Minnesota so I decided to make it a road trip and leave early to spend some time with her before game day. Our son would come in on Saturday and I would pick him up at the airport. Since I don’t like to fly anymore, I rented a ‘Jep’ (there’s another story behind that) and was on my way. Off to a good start, I filled up in Verdi, figuring my next stop would be Elko, about 300 miles out. Either I didn’t get a full tank for some reason, or the Jeep gets terrible mileage. About 20 miles out of Elko, I ran out of fuel. I’m not even thinking gas. I’ve got the music cranked up and I’m just cruising, so I don’t hear the ding, ding of the low gas warning either. Now, I’m off the side of the road on I80 in the middle of the night with truckers whizzing by. Luckily I still had cell phone coverage, so I called Road America. They offer services to autos as well as bikes. Glad we have this plan (or so I thought.) About 90 minutes later, a guy pulls up with a jug of gas. I thank him and give him a nice tip and made my way into Elko. (Here is the part where I tell you, if you are in a rental car, Road America will still come to your rescue, but you don’t get it for free ($75 fee). You must be in your own vehicle. Oh, well, still glad I had the coverage. Made it to Rock Springs the next day, but heard our grandson, Bubba, was in the hospital. So, I decided to hang out a little closer to home, just in case I needed to head back in a hurry. The following day I parked it in Sturgis. Bubba was better and

Nicollet Mall with the Super Bowl 52 Ice Sculpture getting ready to head back home, but I spent an extra day there anyway. I’ve never been to Sturgis in the winter. Strange seeing all the snow. Hung out at Jambonz on Junction Avenue. It’s walking distance from the Best Western and features some very good Cajun food along with a nice little bar. After a night in Sioux Falls, I finally made it to my mother’s house. We hung out for a few days, catching up, working on a few house projects and watching all her favorite game shows in

Eagles win first Super Bowl

Super Bowl Pre Game

Sturgis HD the evening. I picked up our son the day before the game and we spent all day at the pre-game festivities at Target Field (MN Twins Stadium) and other locations around Minneapolis. Even caught a little of the Jim Rome Show. Later, we found a sports bar that had been taken over by Eagle fans so, of course, we went in. Lunch was good, washed down with a couple of brews. The house was definitely rockin’. Eagle fans party hardy! Every 10 minutes or so you’d hear the Eagles chant. E-A-G-L-E-S, Eagles, YAY!!!! A fun time was definitely had by all!! Another first for us on this trip was seeing National Guard troops in full combat gear stationed in town. M16’s at the ready. You know, the actual “assault weapons” that are already banned. Armed soldiers in the street at a sporting event. This is what our world has become! And we all know why, don’t we? Game day was pretty electric. Everybody had a buzz about them. The town was like a beehive and US Bank Stadium was where the queen bee was hiding. I must admit, Minneapolis had their shit together. I was dreading what traffic and parking

Radio Talk Show Host Jim Rome

was going to be like. Usually, you go to concerts or big sporting events and it’s like hell coming and going. Not here! They had blocked off certain streets and traffic was funneled through the open streets well. The elaborate overhead walkway system they’ve built really helped. It connects just about all the event centers, malls, etc. So on game day, we hopped on I35 West, got off on Washington, parked about a half mile from the stadium and made our way to the walkway. Lots of people inside, but everyone moved along nicely. Going home was a piece of cake also. This indoor stadium is fabulous. The nicest stadium I’ve been in since Chase Field in Phoenix. What an atmosphere! I think everybody knows how the game went. Our son was absolutely ecstatic with the Eagles first Super Bowl win and I was very happy that I got to experience this once in a lifetime event with him. CLUTCH CABLES A common problem that we see most often is misadjusted clutch cables. When a clutch cable and clutch is not adjusted properly you can cause throw out bearings to go out prematurely or even the plates to wear early. We have seen where a cable was too tight and it caused the cable to stretch to the point the cable had to be replaced. So here’s the tip of the month. Locate the adjuster for the clutch cable. It is found on the down tubes of the frame. There is typically a rubber boot that conceals it. Pull the boot up and loosen up jam nut. Once it is loose, completely collapse adjustment and proceed to the derby cover. Remove the fasteners that hold the derby cover on. (Make sure your bike is upright to insure oil does not come out.) In the center you will see an 11/16” jam nut and an Allen. Loosen the jam nut and take a 7/32 and turn allen in, until it bottoms out. Once it has bottomed out you will then back it out ¾ of a turn to set the proper clutch pushrod clearance (for big twins). When that has been com-

pleted you will need an offset 11/16 wrench to tighten the jam nut while holding the allen in place. Once this has been completed, replace derby cover gasket and install the derby cover. Before you adjust the clutch cable at the adjuster, put some cable lube in the clutch cable. Then adjust the cable to where you have 1/16 – 1/8” gap between shroud of cable and clutch perch. You are now ready to lock down adjuster and pull boot down. (Refer to photograph for help). You are now ready to ride!!! Article contributed by Jake and Steve

The Last Pisces Party (Maybe)

March 10 (Bayside): The Last Pisces Party (maybe) 2018 was held at the Bayside Grange Hall in Humboldt County. Everyone had such a great time, even Dirty Dave’s Pisces Punch was available. It was great when The Fryed Brothers Band, long-time friends of Dave’s, agreed to play the event. They invited a local favorite band-Barnfire-to open. All were welcome, kids even, came early to eat and enjoy a few songs. And when the “Best Biker Band in the World” took over, things took off. So, we may not have seen the last of the Pisces Party. It was announced at UBNC that the band may be back for another local event soon. I’ll keep you posted. Remember-No Smiling, No Laughing. THE RAZ REPORT: 2018 Almond Festival

February 25 (Capay Valley): We have had relatively mild weather so far in 2018, that is until the week preceding the Almond Festival. That week had a cold northern blast that dropped temperatures into the 30’s. BRRRRRrrrrr! Although there was no rain in the forecast, Sunday morning was to be cold. Now I prefer to be comfortable when I ride, any ride is good, but most enjoyable rides include not being miserable. Sunday’s forecast meant getting out my heavy leather jacket, chaps, layers, and my “Hippo Hands.” Hippo Hands? Maybe you’ve seen such gear on snow mobiles - fleece lined gauntlets that go over the handle bars which are so warm inside that your hands may still get sweaty like in your summer gloves. Well, by 9’ish am, the temperature was approaching 50’ish under a clear blue sky, not really all that cold, but, all the cold gear was already laid out, so, here we go, dressed for the arctic (well, not quite). The ride to Elkhorn Saloon Country Bar and Grill on the River Road going west out of West Sacramento was definitely comfortable. Princess, aka, Sharon, and I met Steve, Todd, Michelle, Jimmy and Jim there for breakfast. Rose denied me pancakes (they are not on the menu, but I just had to ask anyway) so I had linguisa and two fried eggs over easy with country fried red potatoes with red bell peppers and onions and buttered sourdough toast and black coffee - YUM! With bellies full and temperature was approaching 60’ish, we continue west through Woodland and then take back roads north around Madison to Esparto. That was the plan, however, an apparent wreck with a lot of emergency vehicles has the road totally blocked, so it was left turn on lane and a half wide road I’ve never been on before. This was a crummy road but worth it for the great scenery. We eventually reconnected with the intended roads and rode past almond orchards that filled the air with the sweet smell of almond blossoms. As luck would have it, we no sooner entered Esparto from the north and a parking place large enough for all five bikes was vacated! Temperature is now in the 90’s (not really) but, melting with all the winter gear, so we shed leather and some layers. The Esparto Community Park was filled with vendors and bands that play both kinds of music (country and western) and there was food. Aaaand, of particular interest to me was the annual car show. There were a lot of really nice muscle cars there but didn’t see any street rods, you know, like a 32 Ford 5 window coupe chopped and channeled, or a 40 Ford coup, or a 40 Ford pickup. Just as well, that kind of expenditure would not go over well with Babydoll. All done in Esparto, Todd & Michelle and Jimmy had other commitments so they head back for the barn. Babyroll, aka Princess, Steve, Jim and I head west out of Esparto toward Capay. Holy krap! Traffic into Capay was stop and creep for half a mile into Capay. Capay Junction Saloon is still closed and was parking for Road Trip Bar & Grill patrons. The Road Trip Bar & Grill was already rocking out and P A C K E D. Traffic cleared as soon

as we passed the Road Trip Bar & Grill and we continue to ride west. Just past Cache Creek Casino we come to the usual orchard where we take pictures amoung the blossoming almond trees. Wellllll... breakfast took a lot longer than we thought, aaaaaand... traffic into Capay took a lot longer than we anticipated, aaaaaand... the hippohands.com almond ice cream was a “Martha thing,” sooooooo... we headed back to the Road Trip Bar & Grill for lunch. MY TWO CENTS: I JINXED MYSELF!

Boy did I shoot myself in the foot or what? No sooner did the new Thunder Roads NorCal hit the shelves Mother Nature slapped the shit out of me with a bunch of storms and said “How dare you speak for me!” And at that she dumped rain, hail and snow as low as Sacramento! She even covered the mountain roads above Laytonville with snow to greet party goers heading to the annual Hillon2wheels Lost Coast Run to Shelter Cove. It’ll take a lot more than a snow storm to slow that crowd down, check out the video on Hillon2wheels YouTube channel if you don’t believe me. I got caught in the rain and hail my damn self coming home from work, and I deserved it because I spoke too soon. I only had to deal with the hail for about 5 miles or so and all I could was laugh for putting my foot in my mouth with my last article. I even said in the article I might jinx myself and I’ll be damned if I didn’t. Then to make matters worse I went to leave for work the next morning and my bike wouldn’t start. So I called Mike Voorhees at Motorcycles Only Towing and he was right on time. He safely loaded my bike on his trailer and brought me and my bike the shop.

Friday rolled around and I wasn’t going another day without my bike. Rain or shine, I want my bike with me or in my garage. I took it apart found the problem, which was an easy and inexpensive fix and my bike is running good and the world was right with me again by Saturday afternoon. But the weather is not cooperating for an enjoyable motorcycle ride. We’ve had some pretty bad ass thunderstorms since I said “Well, I think the rain is done for the year.” These storms have been the kind of storms nobody wants to ride in! The storms are strong and back to back and I can’t wait for dry weather again. Maybe it’s just the Tide Pods talking, but I’ll never try to predict the weather again. Hopefully, it’s dry by the time this article comes out because I ain’t predicting shit! That’s my 2 cents! Go ride like hell and have some fun! Al Cagle www.rackandpull.com

The bike got towed in on a Wednesday and I was so busy at work I couldn’t find the time to figure out why it wouldn’t start till late Friday afternoon. For three days, I had my bike at my shop. I’ve never been without my bike before and every time I stepped into the garage at home for anything I had that “oh shit” moment when my bike wasn’t there. You know that feeling I’m talking

4th Annual Shelter Cove Getaway Run

T

HE STARt of this year’s run was in a word - EPIC! The weather took a bad turn for us and we were watching the reports daily as the run drew near. Two days out Terri and I made the call to let everyone who was coming to the Inn of the Lost Coast that we were strongly discouraging riding to this year’s getaway. As it turned out, we hit the road fairly early and that turned out to be a good thing as we scooted through Willits and Laytonville in the Thunder Roads van about 30 minutes before it started to dump snow in the area. As a matter of fact, so much snow fell that CHP ended up closing Hwy 101 north of Laytonville later in the day. Our good luck

unfortunately ran out as we headed over the King Range where the van just could not get any traction up the very steep grades. We were about 5 miles from Shelter Cove and were fortunate to get a tow to the top of the climb from the Inn owner, Mike and then we had it in the bag after that! We just had to take it slow. Locals that have lived in this part of California for over 20 years said they had never seen anything like this storm before. One week earlier, it was 70 degrees at the cove! Go figure. Fortunately most everyone was still able to make it safe and sound and once we did we were all in for a treat at the Inn of the Lost Coast! Since we started

Snow on King Range

Inn of the Lost Coast this getaway run, guests at the inn are treated to a delicious crab feed on the night of our arrival. And this year was no different, other than our good friend Chuck Gleibe brought his world famous marinade. Oh man! I just cannot adequately put into words just how delicious this crab was. Not to mention, Brian from the Family Humboldt MC was on hand and grilled up some tri-tip that was just as delicious! As an added bonus, the Inn of the Lost Coast had a band lined up to play music while we hung out sampling a few tasty craft beers from the new local brewery - Gyppo Ale Mill. By the time we all finished eating, the rain had stopped and the large fire pit was roaring on the deck that sits on the cliff above the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean.

setting to hang out around the fire pit with great friends and soak in the sounds of the waves before stumbling back to our rooms for the night. The rooms here are very nice with a kitchen and mini fridge and all of them have an unbelievable oceanfront view where you can occasionally see whales feeding or swimming by this time of year. Shelter Cove is situated in Southern Humboldt County and we all know what it is that makes Humboldt world famous! Now that marijuana is legal in our state, SoHum is not shy to promote marijuana tourism making this area is a great place to feel at ease while here. And if cannabis is not your thing – that’s okay too. Honestly, we did not notice the distinctive smell any more than usual elsewhere in California. Day 2 started out by visiting with Jack and Autumn at The Fish Tank Coffee Shop located at the corner of the Inn. We had a yummy breakfast quiche and a nice cup of coffee to get the day started. Next some of us went over to Black Sands Beach to watch the waves roll into the steep shore line and just absorb as much of the beauty that surrounded us as we could. Later that afternoon, Gyppo Ale Mill (who had so kindly donated beer for us the night before) extended an invitation to come by the brewery for a tour. They were still ramping up for spring busy season but they had several of their new beers on hand to sample. It was such a hit that most of us walked away with growlers full of beer that would most likely not survive the rest of the day and evening. During the evening, some guests hung out at the fire pit while another group gathered in the large conference room playing some lively card games. Everyone was roaring with laughter with the craziness that these games brought on. As Sunday morning rolled around, it was time to say our goodbyes and trudge back to reality which was made just a bit harder this year since we caged it. Typically for me, when it’s time to pack up and head home – there is still the ride home to look forward to. Special thanks to the Cove Rats MC

THE MAKING OF A

RIDE PRIDE:

Thunder Roads MagazineÂŽ Northern California 28

1946 HARLEY WL BOBBER

T

his bike was a Christmas gift from my first wife; it was a true suicide shift bike. Don’t know if that had a hidden message. But on the other hand I have always loved the flatheads. On the first attempt of its maiden voyage, I stepped on the clutch, threw the jockey shift all the way forward and let out the clutch. It bogged down. Thinking it was in high gear I threw the shifter all the way back and let out the clutch… eeeh ha, it took off in reverse (WLA transmission). Being a true suicide I had no front brake, one foot on the clutch and one foot on the rear brake and no more feet to put on the ground, you know what’s coming. Once I got down the routine, it was a fun ride but I only rode it around the block. Back home, it didn’t seem right. The short version is there was no front brake, 3/8 all thread for front axle, no speedo or dash, top cover and side cover was only thing holding the transmission case together, leaky gas tank, half 12 voltshalf 6 volt electrical system, no way of knowing what gear you are in and along with many other minor things the major problem was the neck was de-raked and a poor job at that. And that is what started the journey for the making of a Gentleman. This was somewhere around 1980, give or take a few. Back then, there wasn’t an internet for finding parts. Parts suppliers hadn’t started manufacturing aftermarket parts yet. The only supply line for replacement parts were swap meets, word of mouth and the Holy Grail if you could find them, NOS parts hidden away in the corner of old shops. I started by having the frame repaired with a new neck kit. After the repair, which was great, my forks no longer fit; I had 74 forks and not 45 forks. I found a shop in San Jose who was willing to trade a NOS 45 fork for a used 74 fork, done. For front wheel and brakes, I used a spare wheel and disc brake from my 74 Ironhead. I located a NOS transmission case in a “hole in the wall” bike shop in Vallejo. Then life happened and the Gentleman was put in the corner of the shop for 37 years. Fast forward to December of 2016, my son Mikee of Mike’s Motorworks asked if I had all the parts I needed to reassemble the Gentleman. I thought I did, as it turns out - I did not. This didn’t start out to be a project for the 2018 Easyriders Show, that wasn’t decided until around late March 2017. Thinking we had a reasonable time line, we stepped up the pace a bit. Three months from the deadline, I was skeptical if the deadline was realistic? At three weeks, I was starting to panic so we started working 7 days a week and then at three days to the deadline I was hyperventilating. Mikee kept saying “shut up and just do it!” and then kicked me in the butt. We literally finished at 5pm the night before heading to the Easyriders Show in Sacramento while doing the detailing at the Convention Center. It was a journey I enjoyed taking with my son and it will be something I will always remember, The Gentleman will be there to remind me. We were fortunate to come home with an award on our first bike build. And we are already talking about our next project “Half Ton” a 1974 Ironhead (original owner). This one won’t be rushed and it may or may not be ready for the 2019 Easyriders Show. Ride on and keep the (really) shiny side up. Article and photos contributed by Rich “Foot” Elkins. pring is in the air. We love to see things grow this time of year. The hills are greener, the trees seem to be magnified by their new growth, and there are so many flowers blooming that it looks like a kaleidoscope of color. There is nothing like riding this time of year in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. A quick trip on 49 North to Downieville or South towards Jamestown brings a magnificent visualization of color. We find ourselves at peace doing what we love to do on a Saturday afternoon with friends. We love riding our motorcycle and with it brings the joy of seeing God’s beauty that He created for people like us who love the wind in our faces, the open road, and the contentment a good ride brings. Just as new flowers are blooming, trees are getting new leaves, and hills are shedding new green carpets of grass, we as humans are also expected to grow with ever changing seasons. Remember, nothing ever remains the same. We are either growing or we are falling behind, and we will soon wither away into inexistence. If we do not face the fears of change and growth, we will never see the potential that is in each and every one of us. The great things the Lord has put in your soul is simply waiting for you to nurture it and stir it up. Almost everything we attribute the falling or failing of people, our marriages, our children, our careers, or our health can be traced back to us not taking appropriate action at the first signs of the failure or the falling. Everything we must do to win is in retrospect of intentionality. Without intentional intentions, our marriages will fail, our kids will still become lost and statistic, our positive attitudes will be squandered, and our health will continue to decline. We will someday sit and ask ourselves what had happened when we would just have to take the journey back in time to pin point the moment we stopped growing in that particular segment of our life. Listen, it is not rocket science! If you do not move forward in your marriage, it will eventually deteriorate from within. If you do not invest the time with your kids and instruct them in the ways of success, the odds of failure for them escalate at an alarming rate. If you do nothing to make healthy

food and exercise choices, you will eventually find yourself at the beckon call of oxygen bottles and medication as you age. I love to see things grow, so I guess that is why I love being the Pastor at Thunder Road Biker Church so much. I know no matter how far down you have gone, that with one simple decision, your life can become amazingly better; your marriage could be taken to new heights, your kids could find their way home, and your health journey with just some baby steps can make a significant come back. It is the basics that keep us grounded and set us up for success. As Vince Lombardi would hold a football up at the first practice every year and say “This is a football”, we need to have a guide for the basics. It is simple; life is very short and we were not meant to be miserable. We were not born to be anguished, suppressed, depressed, or obsessed. The key is praying for wisdom in the little things. If we seek the answers we will find them. There are millions that have gone before you and made the small but significant changes you are looking for no matter what ailment or challenge you are going through. I believe in you and there is “one” more significant than me that believes in you as well. Hey - if Johnny can, so can you! See you at Thunder Road sometime soon. Psalm 90:12 Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we will grow in wisdom. “Never Ride Alone” Pastor Johnny Lujan Rancho Cordova: Every Thursday Night 7pm-8pm at 3235 Sunrise Blvd #3 Roseville: 2nd Sunday of the month 5:30pm-6:30pm at 706 Atlantic Street (916) 521-5706 / Johnny@thunderroadchurch.com / www. thunderroadchurch.com

S I WAS READING

my monthly dose of motorcycle and hot rod magazines, I read Joe Bailon (1923-2017) had passed. Joe is one of the founding fathers of all custom Candy Paint. As the story goes, he was driving on a rainy night, got fascinated by the color of tail lights through raindrops, and through many years of trial and error he came up the color we now call “candy apple red”. The early attempts consist of a gold base, a translucent red and a clear coat. The color candy apple red was not only the first of the candies but also the first of the tri-coats. The important lesson from this story is the difference between pigmented paint and a translucent. When we spray a solid red, yellow, or blue, the pigments are laid down over the substrate. When light hits these pigments some is absorbed and some are reflected. Those lights that are reflected are the colors we can visualize. On the other hand, when translucent is sprayed, it chemically becomes part of the substrate. These types of paints are referred to as dyes or candies. For light to reach it must first go through the candy coat, it then hits the gold or silver base, and is reflected back through the candy for a second time. That’s why candies achieve vibrant deep colors. Let me try an analogy. Suppose we have two cups of water, in the first cup we add a teaspoon of finely ground rock of a specific color (pigment). In the second cup we add a teaspoon of sugar (dye). That sugar will disappear or dissolve into the water. In our first cup, no matter how much we stir or shake those fine particles, they will just float around (suspension). This represents pigmented paints, what you lay down is what you will get. Some 60 years later we have an infinite number of paint combinations. Bases that contain metallics, pearl, metal jewels, etc., these bases are no longer held to gold and silver. Candies are sprayed over a variety of different bases and combined with all the new candies, you could reproduce most all of the visual spectrum. I realize it is difficult finding your custom paint supplies where you can actually see the products. The largest supplier in Northern California is AB Supply (Fremont). They produce their own flake and candies. They even have a small museum of custom painted products from all the different decades (it’s a trip!). Keep Kolouring!

There are two statues in a park; one of a nude man and one of a nude woman, posed to elegantly cover their privates. They had been facing each other across a pathway for a hundred years, when one day an angel comes down from the sky and, with a single gesture, brings the two to life. The angel tells them, ‘As a reward for being so patient through a hundred blazing summers and dismal winters, you have been given life for thirty minutes to do what you’ve wished to do the most.’ He looks at her, she looks at him, and they go running behind the shrubbery. The angel waits patiently as the bushes rustle and giggling ensues. After fifteen minutes, the two return, out of breath and laughing. The angel tells them, ‘Um, you have fifteen minutes left, would you care to go again?’ He asks her ‘Shall we?’ She eagerly replies, ‘Oh, yes, let’s! But let’s change positions. This time, I’ll hold the pigeon down while you crap on its’ head.’ --------------------------------------------------------------------A biker couple, just married during Bike Week, were in their honeymoon suite on their wedding night. As they undressed for bed, the husband, who was a big burly man, tossed his pants to his hot bride and said, “Here, put these on.” She put them on, and the waist was twice the size of her body. “I can’t wear your pants,” she said. “That’s right!!” said the husband, “and don’t you forget it. I’m the man who wears the pants in this family!” With that she flipped him her panties and said, “Try these on.” He tried them on and found he could only get them on as far as his kneecaps. He said, “Hell, I can’t get into your panties!” She said, “That’s absolutely right, and that’s the way it’s going to be until you adjust your attitude, big boy.”

A man boards a plane with six kids. After they get settled in their seats, a woman sitting across the aisle leans over to him and asks, “Are all of those kids yours?” He looks bewildered at her and replies, “No. I work for a condom company. These are customer complaints.” A man and woman were having a quiet, romantic dinner in a fine restaurant. They were gazing lovingly at each other and holding hands. The waitress, taking another order at a table a few steps away, suddenly noticed the woman slowly sliding down her chair, under the table and under the table cloth but the man stared straight ahead. The waitress watched as the woman slid all the way down her chair and totally out of sight under the tablecloth. Still, the man stared straight ahead. The waitress, thinking this behavior a bit risqué and worried that it might offend other diners, went over to the table and, tactfully, began by saying to the man, “Pardon me sir, but I think your wife just slid under the table.” The man calmly looked up at her and said, “No she didn’t, she just walked in.” --------------------------------------------------------------------A teacher asks the kids in her 5th grade class: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Little Johnny says: “I wanna’ start out as a Fighter Pilot, then be a billionaire, go to the most expensive clubs, find me the finest ho’ money can buy, give her a Ferrari worth over a million bucks, an apartment in Copacabana, a mansion in Paris, a jet to travel throughout Europe, a no-limit Visa Platinum, and all the while...banging her like a screen door in a hurricane.” The teacher, shocked and not knowing what to do with this horrible response decides not to acknowledge what he said and simply continue with the lesson. “Alright then, and how about you, Sarah?” “I wanna’ be Johnny’s ho’”.

BIKER BAND REVUE:

Gethen Jenkins - Outlaw Country

B

ORN IN WEST VIRGINIA, raised in Kentucky, Ohio and the Alaskan Bush, where the roots of some of the greatest musical legends of all time have emerged including Gethen Jenkins. Music was always in his house. His father played the guitar and sang, while his mother had perfect pitch. Occasionally his parents would have friends over after Gethen went to bed. Drinking a little wine and smoking left handed cigarettes; they would get to singing everything from James Taylor to Patsy Cline. When Gethen was 7, his father bought him a badminton set that he discovered he could use the plastic rackets, along with one his dad’s picks and pretend that he was playing along with his dad. When his parents separated, eight year old Gethen and his father moved to the Alaskan Bush on the Yukon River. His dad showed him how to place his fingers on the guitar and the chords of G, C & D. His first song was an old folk tune called Blowing In The Wind. As Gethen discovered more songs, he would learn more chords. Around 12, he began singing the songs while playing the guitar. Gethen’s first gig was at the NCO Club on the Air Force Base in remote Galena, Alaska. The “Almost Nuts Band” was playing there, when his father invited the band over for a BBQ. After dinner they got to playing, and Gethen also began pickin’ along with them. Impressed, they invited Gethen to come along and play a song or two with them at the NCO Club. His father, a civil service employee on base and well liked by many, used his pull to get 14 year old Gethen into the Club. Gethen remembers playing Sweet Home Alabama with a Gibson 64 SG. After high school graduation, Gethen went out on a walk-about to various US states, pickin’ and singing along the way before returning once again to Alaska, where he joined the Marines. Gethen was in the Marines for 8 years, serving in Okinawa, Japan & Thailand. He returned to Camp Pendleton in San Diego where he deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Gethen was honorably discharged August 18, 2003. Instead of returning to Alaska, he decided to stay in San Diego, where he eventually met his wife. Together they have two boys, ages 8 and 11. Both children sing and play the drums. Gethen was offered a non-musical job in Long Beach. Accepting the offer, he moved his family from San Diego to Long Beach. This was during a time when he wasn’t doing much with his music. On Saturday nights, he took his wife and 2 boys to a pizza parlor that played bluegrass on the weekends. Longing to play professionally again he approached the band playing, and told them he too played the guitar and would love to get together sometime and do some pickin’ with them. “Yeah sure” they said, but it was one and a half years later that he actually played with them. This time their response was very favorable. They introduced Gethen to a guy that was starting up a band. Gethen played with them awhile till one day when the pedal steel guy called and asked if he would

be interested in being a front man for a professional honky tonk band. He didn’t know anything about being a front man, he just knew how to play his guitar and sing, but was willing to give it a shot. He ended up playing covers with them around town along with writing music. The band began morphing into an original honky tonk band. That same band eventually became Gethen’s band. They were nominated for the Ameripolitan Music Awards in 2014. In 2015 they won Ameripolitan Outlaw Group of the year in Austin, Texas! In 2017 from the California Country Music Awards, Gethen won Male Vocalist of the year and Album of the year for ‘Where The Honky Tonk Begins’. Gethen rides a modified 2000 Harley-Davidson FXSTB Night Train and a 2005 Sportster that he plans on giving to his son. When asked what he thought about playing for bikers, without hesitation Gethen said he has always felt a strong camaraderie with bikers. A lot of bikers, like him, are ex-military and just some of the best folks you’re ever going to find. He said not everyone can win over a crowd of bikers, but for some reason, he has been well received by the biker community. Just for the record Gethen, Thunder Roads NorCal Magazine would like to say that you have the heart and talent it takes to win over a crowd of us bikers. And it sincerely showed when you came up on New Years Eve from sunny Long Beach to freezing ass Sacramento in order to play alongside your friend Harry Fryed of the Fryed Brothers Band. That and many other reasons we’re sure, is why you have been well received in the biker community. Come back soon Gethen!
