THINK ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT – IT PAYS!

WASTE COLLECTED BY US PAPER Paper is collected every three weeks. Newspapers, magazines, advertising material and other reading material that do not contain glue or plastic, can be put in the bag/wheelie bin for waste paper. The paper must be clean and dry. The paper is sent to Norske Skog in Skogn, where it is used as raw material in the production of newsprint. PLASTIC PACKAGING The green weeks on the waste collection calendar mean that all types of plastic will be collected – bottles, cans, trays and plastic products, such as polythene shopping bags, bread bags, plastic food packaging and other types of soft plastic. Use the light green bags for waste plastic. Collected plastic is recycled to make new plastic products. Remember that the plastic must be clean and dry. Dirty plastic must be disposed of as residual waste. DRINK CARTONS Drink cartons must be placed in the light blue bags, which are collected every six weeks. They must be clean and dry. You can make ‘carton logs’ (rinse-fold-stuff) by stuffing at least six drinking cartons in the seventh carton and writing your name, address and phone number on the log. If you do, you will take part in the recycling lottery – and there will be more room in the light blue bag. FOOD WASTE Food waste is collected every week. Use plastic bags for food waste. Please note: Do not use biobags. Bags for disposing of food waste are available free of charge in several shops. Put the bags containing food waste in the brown container in the sorting rack. (Some places have wheelie bins for food waste). Food waste is sent to Ecopro AS in Verdal, where it is used as raw material for biogas and fertiliser products. NAPPIES Nappies can disposed of as residual waste. If you find that there is not enough room in the residual waste bin, contact MNA to subscribe for a bigger bin.

RESIDUAL WASTE Residual waste is what is left when you have used the other collection and delivery arrangements. Residual waste is collected every three weeks. The standard subscription is for a 240 litre wheelie bin. If that is more than you need, you can apply for a reduced subscription. People with a subscription for 100 litres, will be given bags for one year’s use in early summer. It is possible for people with a lot of waste to expand their subscription to 360 litres. The bags are placed in the residual waste rack. Residual waste is sent to Trondheim Energi, which produces electricity and district heating. Please note: Do not put food in the residual waste. WASTE DELIVERED BY YOU CARDBOARD You can deliver cardboard to our recycling stations free of charge. CLOTHES If you want to dispose of clothes, shoes or textiles of different kinds, you can put them in the green UFF containers that are found in various locations. Please see the website sortere.no for an overview. GLASS AND METAL Clear and coloured glass packaging (jam jars, non-deposit bottles etc.). Cleaned metal containers (all types of tins, metal packaging) can be placed in bottle banks or containers marked glass/metal packaging. This waste is delivered to Norsk Glassgjenvinning/Norsk Metallgjenvinning, where it becomes raw material for new products, such as new glass, glass foam and insulating mats. It can also be mixed with asphalt. Light bulbs, ceramic products, porcelain and plastic bottles must not be placed in these containers, and not toughened/ovenproof glass, either! You can take it to a recycling station.

STYROFOAM You can dispose of styrofoam at a recycling station or put it in the residual waste. ENVIRONMENTALLY HARMFUL WASTE Environmentally harmful waste must be delivered to our recycling stations. Their opening hours are listed at www.mna.no. Examples of environmentally harmful waste: Oil residues, solvents, spray cans, paint, glue and varnish residues, pesticides, used batteries etc. Metal buckets/cans that are empty and dry, are not environmentally harmful and should therefore be delivered as metal waste. Environmentally harmful waste is either recycled, used as energy or sent for environmentally sound final disposal. HAZARDOUS WASTE AND MEDICINES Expired medicines or medicines you no longer take, can be delivered to a pharmacy or placed in special containers in doctors’ waiting rooms and at some health institutions. This ensures proper treatment of this type of waste. EE WASTE EE waste consists of discarded electrical products such as cookers, washing machines, PCs, TVs, lamps etc. In other words: All types of waste with electrical or electronic parts. Dealers are the main recipients of such waste. They accept EE waste from consumers free of charge. To ensure good accessibility, the municipalities also have reception facilities. The different materials are sent to recycling plants. NYGAMMELT IN NAMSOS AND RØRVIK NyGammelt is a place where you can find or hand in old things. Others may be able to use what you no longer need, for example used furniture, equipment, books, clothes etc. It is a good idea to call at NyGammelt – both your finances and the environment will benefit. You can also donate clean and undamaged clothing. It is given to UFF – Ulandshjelp fra folk til folk (part of the Humana – People to People movement).

Thank you for helping to keep Namdalen clean!
