Liberals chart course to rebuild the Party - Karygiannis The Honourable Jim Karygiannis, Member of Parliament for Scarborough-Agincourt and Liberal Critic for Multiculturalism, says the Liberal Party of Canada is taking bold steps to engage Canadians as it rebuilds. “Liberals made a landmark decision to open up the Party and invite Canadians to get involved in the political process by

registering as Liberal Supporters and voting in leadership races without paying a membership fee.” said Mr. Karygiannis. “This presents an exciting opportunity for more Canadians, who are concerned about the future of their country, to get involved, to come to the table and discuss their ideas and concerns.” Over 3,200 delegates from across the country

attended the Party’s Biennial Convention in Ottawa the first since the May 2, 2011 Federal General Election. “The convention had energy. The faces of Canada – youth, seniors, First Nations and Canadians who have come from around the world were there. Delegate numbers were greater than the combined number of delegates who have attended Conservative and

NDP conventions.” Mr. Karygiannis added. “Delegates proved to Canadians that the Liberal Party is re-affirming its commitment to the future of our country.” During the convention Mr. Rae met with multicultural community leaders and held a Round Table with members of the ethnic media. In his closing speech at convention Liberal Leader,

the Honourable Bob Rae, saluted Mr. Karygiannis for his commitment to Canada and to Party renewal. ‘Jim Karygiannis has been single handedly going across the country - a one man effort that has the support of literally thousands of people c o n n e c t i n g , communicating and talking in every

language that Canadians speak to talk about what it means to celebrate our diversity; to celebrate our multiculturalism; to fight racism; to fight attacks on different religions; to make it clear we are celebrating the presence in this country of every single person who is here. That’s what multiculturalism means.’ said Mr. Rae.
