Trinity’s academics, co-curricular activities, athletics, and service opportunities provide students with a foundation for new adventures in education as well as in life. The International Baccalaureate Program, the College-Preparatory Program, Block Scheduling, an exclusive collaboration with Dominican University, and a single-gender environment are just a part of what makes Trinity the best choice for a young woman’s future. Read on to learn more about the challenge, innovation, empowerment, impact, and inspiration girls will experience in their four years at Trinity.

Challenge The International Baccalaureate Program The International Baccalaureate Program is aimed at highly motivated, talented students who wish to excel as well-rounded individuals in a global society. The curriculum is international; it develops critical thinking skills, requires a second language, and emphasizes cultural understanding. The IB program is shaped around creating a “better and more peaceful world” with a commitment to develop students who can create this better world through intercultural understanding and respect. The prestigious IB Diploma opens doors to major colleges and universities around the world. For more information about the IB Program go to www.trinityhs.org/academics/ib

The College Preparatory Program

What is the difference between Trinity’s IB Diploma Program and other schools’ AP Program? The IB Diploma Program is an entire advanced curriculum. AP is an advanced class. Unlike Advanced Placement students who test in just their strength areas, IB students engage in a two-year course of study which provides opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.

Trinity is one of only fourteen College Preparatory Schools accredited by the North Central Association and Illinois State Board of Education. Students enrolled in the College Preparatory Program receive solid preparation for a college or university education and also benefit from our faculty’s extensive IB training and teaching techniques. ■

100% of Trinity students are not only accepted into college but into the colleges of their choice.

The 130 young women in the Class of 2010 received over $10.1 million in academic college scholarships.

Innovation Collegiate-style Block Schedule As the first Catholic high school in Illinois to implement block scheduling, Trinity makes use of this effective time management tool to help prepare students for college. Trinity’s schedule consists of four 85-minute periods a day rather than the traditional high school model of 8, 40 minute periods. For a sample of Trinity’s Collegiate-style Block Schedule, go to www.trinityhs.org/academics/block

Dominican University Collaboration Recognizing their complementary values and approaches to education, Dominican University and Trinity High School have forged an exclusive collaboration. Dominican University offers Trinity students the opportunity to study and meet academic and service requirements at both campuses, including the use of Dominican’s newly opened Parmer Hall for education in the sciences, access to its extensive library resources and participation in joint service learning projects, including the performing arts. Trinity students entering their senior year who have a GPA of 3.7% or higher will be invited to take freshman college-level courses and earn college credit at Dominican free of charge. In addition, Trinity students who are accepted to Dominican through this program will receive an annual scholarship.

“I love Trinity’s block schedule. Because of the longer classes, we have more time to learn and fully understand the subject material and concepts presented to us. Also, the block schedule means we only have four classes a day instead of seven or eight. This makes it much easier to handle homework and exams and makes getting involved in co-curricular activities or sports more manageable. The all-girl atmosphere allows me to focus in the classroom without distraction and gives me confidence to say what I think.” Nancy Henz Class of 2013 St. Andrew Grade School

Technology In a rapidly evolving technological environment, Trinity continues to incorporate the best resources available for our students. Teachers integrate technology into the curriculum and students have access to this information throughout the school. Trinity has: ■

Two technology labs

Computers and laptops in the library for research

Biology, Chemistry, and Physics lab computers for hands-on labs and experiments

Wireless Internet access school-wide for teachers and students

Classrooms are outfitted with systems for student use

Online access to grades and assignments for parents and students to check progress in classes quickly and easily

Empowerment Single-gender High school is a time for students to focus on discovering and pursuing who they are and who they want to become. Trinity instills values of education and sisterhood which foster intellectual, emotional, and spiritual growth. As a result, Trinity girls grow into self-confident women prepared to assume leadership roles academically, in the workforce, and in society. Leadership

“Trinity’s empowering environment and numerous challenging opportunities have given me the confidence to work hard and believe in my potential as a strong, independent woman.” Samantha Gay Class of 2010 Attending Brown University Rhode Island

Trinity High School empowers students to lead with confidence and compassion. ■

The officers of each co-curricular activity organize service opportunities for members to reach out and share their gifts or common interests with populations in need throughout the city and suburbs.

Trinity’s Student Executive Council reflects a structure of leadership emphasizing collaborative rather than hierarchical organization. This Council, composed of students from the sophomore, junior and senior classes, shares authority and responsibility on the basis of task rather than on a basis of elected position.

Trinity Blazers involved in Student Leadership annually participate in the State of Illinois Leadership Academy workshops for rising leaders in our community.

Inspiration Spirituality/Service A quest for spirituality goes beyond religion. Trinity keeps students rooted in faith, knowledge and truth during their adolescent years of self-discovery. The gospel shines through liturgical celebrations and classroom lessons, as well as retreats and service projects. Our four-year theology program helps students understand their relationships among church, God, self and service which deepens their faith and fosters personal growth. We encourage prayer and community building in the four-year retreat program that includes Kairos. Throughout the year, our students become personally involved in the celebration of our Catholic identity. Students plan and share in all liturgies, create and lead prayer services and retreats and train and serve as Eucharistic Ministers in addition to developing their gifts of music, art and drama. Students also respond to the Catholic church’s mission in the world by organizing and executing service projects throughout the year. Trinity students volunteer in soup kitchens, senior centers, after school tutoring programs, residences for men and women with physical and mental disabilities, and homeless shelters.

Fine Arts Trinity is strongly committed to arts education. The Fine Arts Curriculum emphasizes contemporary artistic production and processes including the integration of new technologies alongside traditional modes of artistic theory and practice. Trinity students have the opportunity to uniquely express their creativity through an extensive offering of course work in visual arts, dance, music, and theatre. ■

A complete four-year college preparatory visual arts curriculum is available as well as our International Baccalaureate two-year program in art and design.

Students who want to pursue fine arts at the university level can build their portfolio with art faculty mentors.

Trinity’s art gallery exhibitions allow students to curate their own shows.

Trinity student artists are consistently recognized and awarded the highest honors at the Regional Scholarship Achievement Awards coordinated by area colleges and universities.

“Being a part of Trinity’s theater program has taught me to be a leader not only on stage but also in the real world. It has shown me how respect is integral in the success of leading any group, big or small. These life lessons and experiences from Trinity will travel with me forever.” Alicia Zyburt Class of 2010 Attending Syracuse University New York
