The Trinity Perpetual Memorial & Endowment Fund ANNUAL REPORT 2017

Trinity Perpetual Memorial & Endowment Fund Established in 1975, the Trinity Perpetual Memorial and Endowment Fund (TPMEF) consists of assets that have been given to the church by faithful parishioners and friends. The fund ensures a Church for the future. The value of the TPMEF at 2017 year end stands at $6,385,949 and is professionally managed by Monroe Vos, a Houston firm, with oversight by Trinity’s Endowment Committee. Each year the Church draws 5% from the TPMEF for essential operating expenses and ministries. The rest grows in perpetuity. Without these funds, we would not have the depth and breadth of programs that sustain us today. Hundreds of Trinity parishioners, both living and deceased, have contributed to the TPMEF to ensure that Trinity will continue its mission of excellence for future generations. This 2017 TPMEF Annual Report celebrates the ongoing life and vitality of this parish church. In this past year we have sorrowfully bid farewell to many saints who have loved Trinity and whom we have loved in return. Their legacy is evident in the pages of this book and in the way we hold them in our hearts.

Funding A Future A gift in honor of another is a tremendous tribute to a life of faith that you admire and want to celebrate, and a gift to the TPMEF endures forever. An initial gift of $100 or more will enroll the donor, or the honored person named in the records of the Trinity Perpetual Memorial & Endowment Fund. All gifts - large and small - to the TPMEF help to ensure a future for Trinity. Enrollment forms are available on the Trinity Church website www.trinitynola.com/tpmef

Legacy Gifts All who love Trinity Church are warmly invited to consider a planned gift to the Trinity Perpetual Memorial and Endowment Fund as part of their giving journey. It is important that “all persons make wills, while they are in health, arranging for the disposal of their temporal goods, not neglecting, if they are able, to leave bequests for religious and charitable purposes.” (The Book of Common Prayer p.445)

Erle Bruce Walker (April 23, 1929 ~ March 6, 2017) A kind, gentle soul, many may remember Bruce Walker from his vocation as the Tuesday morning organist at the 7:30 am Eucharist service in the Chapel. Albinas Prizgintas recalls that “he played from the heart and it was honest and simple and it was clear that he loved the hymns.” A New Orleans resident since 1957, Bruce was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked with Continental Insurance Co., Insurance Company of North America and Chubb Corp. He was also employed for many years with the Phelps-Dunbar Law Firm. Bruce was predeceased by his longtime life-partner Maurice T. Hattier. When Bruce fell ill and was unable to attend weekly services, Rev. Henry Hudson would visit, and when Henry retired from Trinity, Deacon Jay Albert would bring Bruce weekly communion at the Azalea Assisted Living home in Slidell. “Bruce always greeted me with a smile and looked forward to the church bulletin that I brought him with all of the scripture readings, the weekly prayers, and of course the goings on here at Trinity Church.” Bruce Walker loved Trinity Church and he believed strongly in giving back to those in need. Bruce thoughtfully made a provision in his will leaving his entire estate to the Trinity Loaves and Fishes ministry. His incredibly generous $1.7 million bequest will be a transformative gift for this ministry and will make a profound impact on the lives of so many. We are grateful for Bruce Walker, so embodying one of the fruits of the spirit: generosity. What an example for us all!

Estate gifts made to Trinity support our permanent endowment, which means your gift will continue forever. Putting a charitable gift in your will doesn’t require much time. And it doesn’t require a lot of money. Bequests of any amount can have an impact far greater and more lasting than you might expect. Here is some sample language you can add to your will: A general bequest: “I give, devise and bequeath the following assets: [specific assets, dollar amount, percentage, or residuary] to Trinity Church, New Orleans, Louisiana [EIN 72-0467513] for its endowment.” 3
