Our guests play in the UCL Division 1. This is a level below us, but they have beaten higher ranked sides in their first two games of this years Vase and as we showed at Ware last week, form and standings mean nothing in a cup tie. So we can be sure this will be a tough game for us. As mentioned, we had a great win over Ryman League Ware, last week when we came away with a 3-1 win which very much flattered them as we could have really put them to the sword with the number of chances created. We can look forward to Stevenage Borough visiting us in the next round in the first week in December. The reserves are without a fixture today but entertain Codicote in the next rouns of The Herts Intermediate cup next Wednesday so come along and give your support. They really are worth a look. The A team are at Hadley A today and the B Team are playing AFC Croxley on the top pitch at present. Finishing on a dissappointing note. We had to cancel our Supper Auction yesterday because of a shortage of numbers who had committed to attending. A lot of effort goes into arranging this event and it has been our biggest fund raiser for several years. We hope to re-schedule in the new year but ask that as many people as possible support this important and enjoyable event if we do.

History of Tring Athletic: Formed in March 1958 by a group of local men who contributed app. £2,000 towards the cost of the land, fencing, changing rooms etc .Players, Committee members and friends carried out the work while the team played on another pitch. Originally formed for youngsters under the age of 21, the team won many trophies in the West Herts. Div. 3 including the Div. 3 title 3 times in 5 years, often playing against adult sides.
The 70’s/80’s
The Club went through a lean time and it was decided to scrap the upper age limit. Many former players returned which resulted in another successful period in the early 1970’s. Many fine players turned out for the Club and went on to play for professional/senior clubs. In the mid -seventies the Club nearly folded and the ground was sold to the Council. The reserves were disbanded and the First team dropped down through the leagues. It was decided to turn to youth again. This formula enabled the Club to work back through the leagues and by 1986 we were competing in the Premier Div. and the reserves were resurrected.
South Midlands-The 90’s.
In 1988 the Club joined The South Midlands and as a result gained Senior status with The Herts. FA In 1989 we entered in a 3 year ground sharing agreement with Tring Town. In 1992 the first team moved back to Miswell Lane, where the Reserves had continued to play. The side established itself in The South Midlands and gained promotion to the newly formed Senior Div. in 1993. In 1994/5 season, the First Team reached the final of the Senior Div. Cup While the Reserves were finalists in the Apsley Junior Cup for the second year running. In 1996/7 after leading the Div. for the whole season, some poor results at the end found us finishing 3 rd. We also reached the semi- final of the Herts. Charity Shield and won the St. Mary’s Cup beating 5 Senior sides including Isthmian League Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamsted Town In 1997/8 after winning the last 14 games we lost out on the Title on goal difference of 2. The Reserves won their league by 10 points winning every home game. The following year we won the South Midlands Senior Div. Cup and also The St. Mary’s Cup for the second time, defeating neighbours Tring Town in the semi-final in front of a crowd of 350, mostly Athletic supporters. In the league after suffering just one defeat in 28 games, we finished 3rd. The 1999/2000 season proved to be one to remember. £ 50k was spent on new changing rooms and extending the Clubhouse and over 1000 people turned up to watch a Watford X1 refereed by Graham Barber and Graham Poll.. We also formed a third team a Vets side and a Ladies team. The season turned out to be our most successful. Not only winning the Senior Div. by 11 points, we also reached 5 finals. Winning The Herts. Charity Shield, Herts. Senior Centenary Trophy and the Cherry Red Books Trophy in it’s inaugural year. We were narrowly beaten 1-0in The Senior Div. Cup and the reached Final of the St. Mary’s Cup which was never played because of a back log of fixtures. We were awarded the Houghton Cup for achievements in outside competitions. The Management team were also voted Managers of the season. We lost only 6 out of 60 games all season. The Reserves reached the Final of The Intermediate Cup and the A Team finished runners up in the West Herts. Div.
The New Millennium
We continued our success into the new one (2000/01) by retaining the Herts. Senior Centenary Trophy (again beating Wormley Rovers 2-0) and the Cherry Red Books Trophy (Virginia Water 1-0). The Reserves won the League title and a newly formed B Team claimed the runners-up spot. The following season (2001/02) we won the Herts. Charity Shield for the 2nd time beating Letchworth 4-1. The A Team reached the Apsley Junior Cup final and the B Team won the sporting award.
Season 2002/03 – More success followed as we capture the Herts. Senior Centenary Trophy for the 3rd time, to
become the first club to do so. We finished 3rd in the table and won the League Cup for the 2nd time, to make 12 major trophies in 7 years. We were also finalists in the Cherry Red Books Trophy. The A Team finished runners up as did the Under 16's in their first season, the B Team won the sporting award for the 2nd year running and the Ladies had a great run in the Women's FA Cup. For the 3rd year running Darrel Bodimeade won an award for the best playing surface, which is just reward for the tremendous job he does for the club.
Season 2003/04 –Following our failure to secure floodlights at Miswell Lane we entered into an historic alliance with Tring Town to play our first and reserve team football in season 2004/05 at Pendley where lights are already in place. The main focus was to be to raise the funds needed to build a new Clubhouse, the previous building burnt down in March 2003. Miswell Lane will be retained and will be used by our A, B, and Ladies sides. This new arrangement with Tring Town secured senior level football in the town.
Season2004/05 – New season at a new ground in a new division with fantastic facilities. First team finished 6th in
the Premier Division and also won the St Mary's Cup for the 3rd time defeating Hemel Hempstead in the Final. We were also Runners Up in the South Midlands Floodlit Cup Final losing on penalties to Oxhey Jets. Played in the F A Vase for the first time.
Season 2005/6 –The Club entered the F A Cup for the 1st time in its history but was defeated in the prelim round. In a disappointing season the highlight was a victory over Watford in the Herts Senior Trophy with a large crowd enjoying a 1-0 win. Defeat in this competition came at the hands of Stevenage Borough of the Conference league
Season 2006/7-The first team finished mid table after a difficult start to the season. Went 3 rounds in the e.on
FA Cup, losing to Kings Lyn, the biggest side in the competition at that time. The events of the year however came after the season had completed. Mick Eldridge and Ray Brimsom stepped down as first team managers after 17 years. Ron Brimsom also after 16 years decided to hand over the reigns and our Hon. Secretary Ralph Griffiths also stood down after 25 years in that position. A wealth of experience which thankfully will not be lost, as they are all staying on in some capacity.
Season 2007/2008-.The new management team of Phil Casserley and Terry Nightingale ended in glory at The County Ground, Letchworth, with the First Team lifting The Herts. Charity Shield for the 3rd time.
Season 2008/2009- A reasonable league campaign saw the first team finish in 8th position.
However in true Athletic tradition, it was in the cups in which we excelled, reaching 4 semi-finals. After being 4-2 up with just a few minutes to go, 3 late goals meant the first one slipped away. This strengthened the resolve of the whole team and in a remarkable last seven days of the season, three trophies were gained. Winning the League Challenge Trophy and Premier Div. Cup for the first time and also defeating local rivals Leverstock Green to pick up the St. Mary’s Cup for the 4 th time Ex-player, Ben Williams re-joined the club as reserve team manager mid season and will lead the side in the Suburban League next season.
Season 2009/2010- After last season’s tremendous cup haul, this year the first team finished without a trophy.
However they finished third in the league, the highest position the club’s history so far. With the ground getting the higher ground grading required, the management and players will be hoping to put in a challenge for the title in 2010/2011. The B Team did pick up some silver ware winning The Stanley Rous Challenge Cup at Hemel Hempstead Town’s ground.
Season 2010/2011- The first team finished runners up in The Premier Division. They also won The St. Mary’s Cup beating Leverstock Green in the final and reached the final of The Floodlite Cup, losing 2-0 to Royston Town
Season 2011/2012- With a new Management set up and several new faces in the First team, we were pleased to
finish in the top six and reach 3 cup semi-finals. All our sides performed well, with one of our youth sides going through the league season undefeated. The ladies won their league and reached the final of the County Cup, losing to Arsenal reserves.
- Mixed season with the 1st team winning their initial F A Cup tie at Bedfont and then losing in the next round to Ashford Town after a replay, in the F A Vase we lost at first hurdle to FC Romania. In the League we finished just below half way, lost on penalties to Hadley in the semi final of the Premier Division Cup and were finalists in the St Mary's Cup losing to local rivals Berkhamsted. The "A" Team, under Dave Adamson and James Bevan won the West Herts Peace Memorial Cup for the first time in the Club's history. unfortunately the Ladies team withdrew from their league through lack of players. EYNESBURY ROVERS FC PEN PICS 2013/14 Lee Bassett (Age 24) Forward. Lee joined the club initially on a three month loan from St Neots Town. He made his 100th appearance in April 2013 marking the occasion with his 73 rd goal and has been the leading goalscorer for the last three seasons. Aaran Cavill (Age 29). Defender. Aaran joined in the summer of 2013 and was with Bedford Hatters last season. He made his debut in the opening day win at home to Northampton Spencer. Ben Cole (Age 26) Forward. Ben has been hit by injuries in the last few years but has scored 26 goals in 50 appearances up to the end of last season. Tom Coles (Age 24). An attacking midfielder who joined the club in the summer of 2011 and made his debut in the home 6-0 win over ON Chenecks. He went on to score 18 goals in 34 appearances in his debut season. Last year he scored 16 times in 36 matches. Ben Colmer (Age 22). Ben joined the club in September 2012 from Huntingdon Town. He scored ten times in 36 appearances in his debut campaign. James Ducket (Age 21). James joined Eynesbury following the demise of St Neots Town Reserves. He has since made 64 appearances and was named Manager’s Player of the Season for 2012/13. Robert Ducket (Age 21). Identical twin brother of James, Robert also joined the club from St Neots Town Reserves. Nathan Field (Age 22). The son of manager Martin he joined Rovers at the start of last season and has made an impression at full back this year. Scott Field (Age 26). Scott signed in the summer of 2013 and scored his first goal for the club in their 2-0 home win over Irchester on Saturday 31st August 2013. Nathan’s brother. Nick Henebery (Age 20) Defender. Nick rejoined the club this season after a handful of appearances last year. Chris Newton (Age 20). Chris has been given his chance at first team level after impressing with the Rovers A team last season. His father manages our Reserve side. Paul Reynolds (Age 30). Paul is an experienced defender who joined the club in November 2012 from Biggleswade Town. He went on to make 17 appearances scoring once. Stephen Smith (Age 27). Stephen joined the club in October 2013. He can name Cambridge United, Cambridge City and Bury Town as former clubs. Jack Weeden (Age 31) Jack scored on his debut on the opening day of last season and went on to score 25 times in 35 appearances. He can name Kempston Rovers and Bedford United among his former clubs. Ross West (Age 30) Midfielder who rose through the youth ranks at Eynesbury. Re-joined the club two seasons ago after a spell at St Neots and he made his 300 th first team appearance in the 2-0 home win over Irchester on Saturday 31st August 2013. Andrew Wale (Age 24). Goalkeeper who made 35 appearances last season and was voted Supporter’s Player of the Year. Darren Woodend (Age 25) Defender. Darren joined the club from Potton. Prior to that he had made 9 first team appearances for Eynesbury before returning to the club. He made his 100th first team appearance in the 5-2 win at Buckingham on October 20th 2012. He was last season’s Player’s Player of the Year.
EYNESBURY ROVERS FC HISTORY Eynesbury Rovers were formed in 1897 and after playing friendly matches they competed in the Biggleswade & District League before joining the St Neots Junior League. Their first honour was a Huntingdonshire Senior Cup win in 1914. They won the Hunts Junior Cup in 1922 and 1927, then the Bedfordshire & District League 2 nd Division title in 1927, 1931 and 1932. In 1934 Rovers stepped up to the South Midlands League and were promoted at the first attempt. The Scott Gatty Cup was won and Rovers finished runners up in the Senior Cup in 1937 and 1939. After the war the club joined the United Counties League, and were successful in cup competitions winning the Hunts Senior Cup and The Hinchingbrooke Cup four times each in a five-year spell. In 1950-51 the club won a cup treble of the Hunts Senior Cup, the Hinchingbrooke Cup and the Hunts Premier Cup. In 1952 the club entered the Eastern Counties League. Rovers finished fourth in their second season, their best placing in the ECL. They also enjoyed their best run in the FA Cup reaching the Fourth Qualifying Round, losing 3-1 at Cambridge United. The club’s record attendance was set in 1955 when 5000 watched a fund raising friendly against Fulham, the legendary Sir Stanley Matthews guesting for Eynesbury. Hunts Senior Cup wins in 1955 and 1957 plus a Hinchingbrooke Cup success in ‘58 kept the trophy cabinet in use but the club finished bottom in 1960-61. In 1962 Rovers lifted the Cambs Invitation Cup and in 1963 they returned to the UCL where they have remained ever since. The club won the Hinchingbrooke Cup in 1967 and the Hunts Senior Cup in 1970, but were relegated in 1972. Under Brian Abraham Rovers bounced back winning the First Division championship in 1977. Four years later floodlights were installed at the ground with Luton providing the opposition, in front of a crowd of 1000, in an official opening match. 1985 saw Rovers lift the Hunts Senior Cup and the following season Neil King took over the manager’s role from Brian Abraham. Three successive Hunts Senior Cup Finals were lost between 1988 and 1990 before Gary Pilsworth took over and the club enjoyed success, with Hunts Senior Cup and Premier Cup wins, a first ever appearance in the East Anglian Cup Final and a best ever league placing of third. A year later Rovers won the Hunts Senior Cup and finished as runners up in the East Anglian Cup. Alan Day took over as manager in 1992 and guided the club to another Hunts Senior Cup success, but he moved on in October 1993 to be succeeded by Barry Cavilla. Eynesbury enjoyed their best ever run in the FA Vase in the 1994/95 season when they reached Round Three losing 3-2 at home to Halstead. The following year Rovers won the Hunts Senior Cup and the Hunts Premier Cup. Peter Schofield then took over and did well to keep the side in the Premier Division on a small budget. Neil King returned and Rovers lifted the Hunts Senior Cup 2000, but a poor start to the 2000/01 campaign led to his resignation in December. The club appointed Steve Galbraith as his successor but he was unable to prevent the teams’ relegation to UCL Division One. Season 2001/02 culminated in a 3-0 Hunts Senior Cup win over town rivals St.Neots whilst in 2004 Rovers finished as runners-up to Wootton Blue Cross in the Hunts Premier Cup. When Galbraith left in the summer of 2005 the Club appointed Dean Shipp after he led the Reserves to promotion. Season 2006/07 saw Eynesbury reach the final of the South Midlands Floodlit Cup but they lost 2-1 to Saffron Walden Town. In December 2007 Dean resigned and the club appointed Al Lenihan and Pat O’Keefe as his successors. After 18 months in charge the duo moved on. In the summer of 2009 the club appointed former Eynesbury player Matt Plumb as first team manager. In his first season in charge he led Eynesbury Rovers to third place, their best finish since their relegation to Division One. Last season he was joined by Martin Field and the club finished third after a 22 match unbeaten run.

Two South Midlands’ sides have won this trophy, Hoddesdon beat Epsom & Ewell 2-1 in the inaugural competition in 1975 and Arlesey Town triumphed in 1995 winning 2-1 against Oxford City. Hillingdon Borough reached the final in 2006 but lost 3-1 to Nantwich Town and neighbours Berkhamsted Town were also runners up, going down 2-1 to Taunton in 2001.
History of The FA Vase The FA Vase effectively replaced The FA Amateur Cup in 1974.In that year The FA Council had decided to abolish the official distinction between ‘amateur’ and ‘professional’ footballers and this meant the end of The Amateur Cup and Amateur Internationals involving England. Two-hundred and twenty clubs entered The Vase in its first season but they didn’t include those clubs which had dominated in The Amateur Cup. Enfield, Hendon, Dagenham, Skelmersdale United and others at their level were immediately allocated to The FA Trophy. For the first time in history, small clubs – even village clubs – had the chance of playing in a national final at Wembley. The first Vase Finalists were Hoddesdon Town from the Spartan League and Epsom & Ewell from the Surrey Senior League. The Hertfordshire side edged home 2-1 before a crowd of 9,000. Even a competition as democratic as The Vase had its ‘elite’ clubs in the early years. Billericay Town, initially of the Essex Senior League, won The Vase in 1976, 1977 and 1979. Halesowen Town, then in the West Midlands League, also appeared in three Finals. They lost by the only goal to VS Rugby in 1983, scored by Ian Crawley who also scored the goal that won The Trophy for Telford United in ’89, but beat Fleetwood Town in ’85 and Southall in ’86. Until 6 years ago the record attendance for any Vase match was the 26,489 who saw the drawn 1989 Final between Sudbury Town and Tamworth on a warm afternoon at Wembley. Tamworth won the replay 3-0 at Peterborough and Ian Moores, a former Division One player with Tottenham Hotspur, scored one of the goals. The Vase competition is now in its 39th season. There have been 32 Finals at Wembley, two at Villa Park and St Andrews and one each at Upton Park and White Hart Lane. Twenty-nine different clubs have got their hands on The Vase donated by former FA Councillor Frank Adams. Whitley Bay lead the way with four wins, followed by Billericay on three wins and Brigg Town, Halesowen Town and Tiverton Town with two. Aficionados of the competition rate the 1992 Final between Wimborne Town and Guiseley as the best so far. Wessex League Wimborne had a modest record in the competition before then, having never ventured beyond the Third Round, but they embarked on a spectacular Vase journey that took them all the way from the First Round to The Final. A goal down after 14 minutes at Wembley, the Dorset side fought back to win 5-3. The Vase Final returned to Wembley in 2007 and a record 36,232 fans saw Truro City beat AFC Totton 3-1 after being a goal down. Kirkham & Wesham of the North West Counties League lifted The Vase in 2008 in their very first season in the competition, beating Lowestoft Town 2-1. Then in 2009, two first-half goals sent The Vase back to Whitley Bay, who won it seven years earlier, as they beat Glossop North End. Bay's manager Ian Chandler also scored the winner in the 2002 victory over Tiptree United at Villa Park. 'The Bay' retained The Vase in 2010 and 2011 before relinquishing their crown in 2012, the year Dunston UTS won the competition for the firstever time. Spennymore Town are the current holders after beating Tunbridge Wells 2-1 to lift the trophy for the first time.

Injury News Andy Hughes who sustained a nasty injury in last season's St Marys Cup Final had an operation on his ankle on 24th September, when he had some bone removed and surgery to ligaments and tendons, is recovering well. He has been in a boot which comes off at the end of this week and should then be mobile enough to drive and do light exercise. We hope to see him at The Grass Roots Stadium soon and that his recovery continues. Charlie Abrahams who dislocated his shoulder, for the second or third time, in an early season fixture is still waiting for an operation so we hope that this gets sorted shortly.
HERTS SENIOR CUP TRING ATHLETIC V STEVENAGE BOROUGH DEC 3rd
Tues 5th Nov 2013 Herts County Senior Challenge Cup 1st Round Ware 1-3 TAFC First team TAFC goals: Trevor Gibbs, Graham Hall (pen), Martin Skinner There were no fireworks on Tuesday night at Ware's Wodson Park Stadium but the players put on a sparkling performance to earn us a mouth watering tie in the next round at home to Football League Division 1 outfit Stevenage. The previous Saturday we had performed poorly at home to London Colney but Julian and Ian will be delighted with the response they got from the players as this was a fine display particularly in the second half when we should have won by a far bigger margin. There had only been one previous meeting between our two clubs and that was in this same competition 5 days short of 4 years ago when Ware won by the same margin of 31. Interestingly none of their players who turned out that night appear to be with the club anymore whilst 8 of ours are still involved between the First Team and Reserves. Ware have won this the most senior cup in the county on 5 occasions and been finalists 6 times so they have some pedigree in this competition whilst we are relative newcomers. Our hosts have had a difficult start to their season in Ryman Division 1 North with just two wins from 20 games in all competitions. But they do play at a level above us and they fielded a strong side with 13 players in their squad who were on the team sheet for the game against Barkingside 3 days earlier so we knew that this would be a stiff test. We made two changes to our starting line up with Sam Joliffe and Ryan Sturges replacing Lee Benning and Jack Sunderland and we moved to a fluid 4-3-3 system rather than 4-4-2 with Chris Vardy and Ryan Sturges providing the width with Sam Joliffe, Trevor Gibbs and Graham Hall occupying the central midfield areas. It was a system that worked very well, we looked better organised and sharper on the breaks. All the players performed to a high level but Chris Vardy had an outstanding match and was a constant source of danger to the opposition. The only aspect of his game that he may be disappointed with was his finishing particularly in the second half when he missed some great scoring opportunities. It took us a little while to get acclimatised and Ware claimed most of the territory in the opening moments of the game. Our old nemesis Anthony Anstead, previously of St Margaretsbury and Hertford Town, who always seems to score against us, was the focal point of the home attacks and was a threat early on. Having scored 5 goals in his last 5 games Anstead was obviously full of confidence and he tried an audacious shot in the 12th minute from a difficult angle but it went well wide of the goal. But gradually the combined forces of Chris Salmon and Michael Green got the better of the contest to deny him genuine scoring opportunities.
The bigger threat came from another St Margaretsbury old boy Leigh Rose who tested Mike Underwood on 3 occasions with good shots between the 22nd and 31st minute which Unders dealt with well, particularly the third one which he had to punch away. Later Rose broke dangerously down the left and his super cross was fortunately for us missed by his colleagues. We looked solid and competitive and after the initial phase the game became more evenly matched. Our first decent move came in the 10th minute when Michael Green, Martin Skinner and Chris Vardy linked up to release Graham Hall down the left but uncharacteristically he over hit his cross. A few minutes later a Stuart Stedman cross found Ryan Sturges whose fierce shot was beaten away by the home keeper Rhys Madden. Chris Vardy picked up the loose ball and his intelligent curling shot drifted just wide of the far post with the keeper stranded. We were breaking nicely out of defence but some promising moves were frustratingly thwarted by the linesman's flag but with 5 minutes to go to the break we beat the offside trap and Martin Skinner's terrific cross from the left was rifled in off the underside of the cross bar by Trevor Gibbs. It was Trevor's first goal since returning to the club having last scored for the First Team in the 2008/09 season. Score 0-1. A fairly even half ended with us holding a morale boosting one goal advantage. Half Time: Ware 0 Tring Athletic 1 Whatever was said by Julian and Ian at half time should be bottled and sold as a motivational aid to businesses because after the break we carved open the home defence almost at will and we should have built up a substantial lead, a fact that was recognised by a home official who said after the game that we should have won 6-1. The first opportunity arose within 19 seconds of the restart when Chris Vardy's shot required the keeper to tip it over the bar. Three minutes later Graham Hall picked out Chris Vardy who showed superb skill to bring the ball under control but from a great position he fired over. Almost immediately it was the same combination that pierced the home defence again but Chris's delicately placed shot went just wide of the post. Five minutes later it was the turn of Martin Skinner to get in on the act hitting the post from close range from a Graham Hall cross with Trevor Gibbs just unable to get to the loose ball. The Ware defence was living on borrowed time and in the 59th minute we were awarded a penalty when the linesman flagged that a cross from Ryan Sturges had been handled. It seemed harsh but that didn't bother Graham Hall who converted the penalty to give us a deserved two goal margin. Score 0-2, Ware made their 3 substitutions and one of them George Ironton pinged over a lovely diagonal cross to the far post that went unclaimed. In the 70th minute we caused chaos in the home ranks from a free kick with Michael Green and Trevor Gibbs having goal bound shots cleared. We needed a third goal to be home and dry and went very close in the 73rd minute when good play by Martin Skinner set up Chris Vardy for another one on one with the keeper, but his delicate little chip which looked goal bound just drifted agonisingly wide and hit the post and bounced to safety.
It was another let off for Ware but with a quarter of an hour still to go they knew that one goal would bring them back into contention so they made a big push for a goal and we had to dig in and withstand some pressure as we faced a series of set pieces. Michael Green did very well to clear a dangerous cross and Sam Ruff hit the top of the bar with a scooped shot although Mike Underwood was underneath it and appeared to have it covered. We made a change bringing on Jack Sunderland for Ryan Sturges and he made some great runs to relieve the pressure. Mike Underwood did well to tip a rasping free kick from Sam Ruff round the post and from the corner showed his agility to catch the ball under a lot of pressure. But with 7 minutes remaining, Dean Gilbert just got his head to a free kick with the ball skidding rather than bouncing on the deck deceiving Mike Underwood. Score 1-2. Despite missing some gilt edged chances and being in charge of the game the prospect of added time was now a distinct possibility but full credit to the players as they bounced back straight away to settle the tie once and for all in the 86th minute. Trevor Gibbs flashed a shot across goal and Martin Skinner had a shot blocked but the big man was not to be denied and after bouncing his skipper Graham Hall out of the way he rifled a left shot past the keeper from the edge of the area. It was a well taken goal and brought much relief to our small band of supporters. Score 1-3. Sat 9th Nov 2013 League TAFC Reserve team 5-0 Leighton Town TAFC goals: Martin Skinner (2), Ryan Sturges, Trevor Gibbs, Vincenzo Iannone With no game before the crunch FA Vase clash next weekend, the First Team used this fixture as a warm up and to ensure that some of their squad players had a good run out. Leighton Towns reserves, as ever, were young and hungry and passed the ball around midfield well. Lennie Benning was lucky to only get a yellow card early on when he went in high on an opponent next to the dugouts. On 10 mins Tring took the lead. Good work found Ryan Sturges on the right. He waltzed and danced to the bye line before delivering a pinpoint cross to allow Skinner to head home. Leighton continued to zip it around and occasionally looked the more accomplished side. But on 30 mins we scored again - with Skinner unleashing an unstoppable drive from 25 yards past the astonished Leighton custodian. Skinner was denied a tremendous first half hat trick when he went through but lobbed wide. Half Time - TAFC Res 2 Leighton Town 0 For the first 25 mins of the second half, Leighton had the upper hand and Tring looked sluggish to say the least. On 70 mins Tring finally sparked into life. Good work on the left with Tomlin and Gibbs and the ball fell to Sturges to slot home. Leighton sagged. Penalty on 75 mins, Gibbs changed his mind during the run up and it was easily saved. But Gibbs atoned shortly afterwards. Slotting home from 8 yards to make it 4. On 85 mins, Iannone sprung to life, battled through several tackles and drove home. 50. A decent run out for the lads, and special mention to Craig Garrett in Tring's goal - who has now gone for 280 mins without conceding. Lets hope this continues.
