INTRODUCTION

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion partnered with the Brown Center for Faculty Innovation and Excellence to create ‘The Hatter Green Book: The Multicultural Campus Support Guide to Justice.’ This book was inspired by the travel guides created for African Americans to travel safely during Jim Crow laws, also known as Green Books. The Hatter Green Book is intended to offer underrepresented community members a cultural comprehensive resource guide intended to serve the diverse needs of faculty, staff and students. There are a number of cultural resources on our campus that are confidential and safe for our communities to receive support and guidance. Navigating where to look for assistance and camaraderie in stressful times is important. Remember, our communities are resilient and valuable to the Stetson community. We are Hatters!

B.E.S.T TEAM The purpose of the Bias Education and Support Team at Stetson University is to provide students with an opportunity to receive education, support and appropriate resolutions in response to bias-related incidents. Biasrelated incidents are defined as threats or acts of harassment or intimidation, whether verbal, written or physical, which are directed against Stetson University student(s) because of that student's age, color, ability, marital status, national or ethnic origin, political affiliation, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy), socioeconomic status, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, veteran status, family medical or genetic makeup or information, intellectual perspective, criminal background and potentially other identities or identifiers. BEST provides impacted parties opportunities to be heard and supported and creates space for parties to process, gain understanding and plan response to the situation. BEST also educates and informs the community as appropriate. Although we hope all parties find value in the space created for exploration and dialogue, all parties' participation in the BEST process is optional. If a member of the BEST team identifies a situation in which there is a possible violation of the Stetson University Code of Community Standards or the law, the information will be transferred to the Office of Community Standards, the Title IX office, and/or law enforcement for investigation and possible adjudication. The Bias Education Support Team is not a disciplinary process and does not function in lieu of any disciplinary or complaint processes within or outside of the University.

FACULTY AND STAFF RESOURCES

ALANA-I CAUCUS Provides support for tenure-track faculty throughout the pre-tenure review process, for tenured faculty interested in promotion, and for faculty mentors and evaluators who want to learn more about supporting junior colleagues. The ALANA-I Caucus is composed of faculty members seeking to raise awareness of the concerns faced by the culturally diverse members of the Stetson community, and willing to work together to find solutions that make Stetson University more significant and more inclusive. ALANA-I, strictly speaking, is an acronym for historically underrepresented racial/ethnic groups in U.S. history: A: African/Black L: Latinx A: Asian N: Native A: American I: International Faculty

Today, the term ALANA-I can be broadened to include other cultural groups, including people of international origin, hence: Any faculty member with a passion to challenge social inequality, correct injustice, and help make Stetson University a great place to be for all of us, is welcome to join!

BROWN CENTER FOR FACULTY INNOVATION AND EXCELLENCE The Brown Center for Faculty Innovation and Excellence was established by a generous endowment from Hyatt and Cici Brown. The directives for the center are twofold: (1) to ensure active and continuous support of Stetson Faculty as life-long leaders and innovators and (2) to assert Stetson as a national higher education leader by modeling the University's distinctive character of learning and teacher-scholar role for future faculty. The journey of a teacher-scholar will be unique for each individual, a faculty member new to the university role will have different goals and needs than one with significant experience in higher education. This diversity presents an opportunity to leverage the knowledge and perspectives of individuals (newcomers and established members) to develop Communities of Practice – a term coined by Lave and Wenger to describe “groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly.” This approach to building community and valuing lifelong learning is the core of the Brown Center's philosophy of faculty development. Communities of Practice (CoP) may evolve organically or by design. In all cases there is an expectation that individuals will develop as leaders and the work will be shared through dissemination beyond the communities of practice.

Ways Brown helps promote growth and leadership: Boundary-spanning: projects & programming that build relationships, interconnections and interdependencies that span departmental and disciplinary boundaries. Innovative: projects & programming in which innovative strategies are employed to engender learning. High-impact: projects & programming that use high-impact pedagogies in support of student learning. Communities of practice: projects & programming that recognize the social nature of learning by developing communities of individuals committed to excellence in education Faculty Grants and Research Funding: Through the generosity of many individuals who resonate with our mission of excellence in higher education and our commitment to supporting the teaching, librarianship, scholarship, and creative activities of our faculty, Stetson University is pleased to provide a number of opportunities for faculty grants and research funding. Academic Affairs Summer Grants Willa Dean Lowery Grant to Support Research in the Natural Sciences Nina B Hollis Impact Award Grant

Faculty members are also encouraged to seek opportunities for external funding. The Office of Grants, Sponsored Research and Strategic Initiatives seeks to support faculty in all stages of the grant process, from identifying funding opportunities to coordinating postaward business processes. Additionally, the Grantsmanship Institute provides opportunities for faculty to hone their grantsmanship development skills through a range of activities including proposal writing, project assessment, IRB training, foundation gifts, marketing scholarly work, partnership development and strategic planning. Brown Teacher-Scholar Fellows The flagship program of the Brown Center. The program prepares faculty leaders who will inspire current and future faculty to aspire to excellence in undergraduate learning, teaching, and research. Fellows infuse niche areas of expertise across the Stetson community. Brown Visiting Teacher-Scholar Fellows come from and contribute to a variety of disciplinary and interdisciplinary fields. Proposals for fellows are solicited annually in November. Provost Faculty Fellows (PFF) Program The goal of PFF is to build exceptional leaders by supporting individual faculty development that enhances university culture and capacities. Responsibilities and appointments vary. Brown Innovation Fellows (BIF) Program- Brown Innovation Fellows demonstrate cutting edge innovation across diverse aspects of the teacher-scholar role to foster lifelong excellence in learning. Brown Innovation Fellows learn and build knowledge together and share their work with others. Contact Information: Located: 421 N.
