Local adventurer plans pole to pole journey

Chris Ramsey, from Bridge of Don, is planning to travel from the North to the South Pole by electric car this spring. The team’s route will take them 27,000km from the arctic through Canada, the USA, Central and South America to Antarctica in a Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE.

The vehicle’s modifications include ruggedised bodywork, upgraded wheels, tires and suspension. The temperatures on the trip are expected to range from -22F to 90F.

Chris and his wife Julie previously became the first people to finish the Mongol Rally in an electric vehicle, visiting 20 countries in 56 days. Chris also holds a World Record for the longest distance covered by an e-bike in 12 hours.

Aberdeen hospitality firm wins top industry accolade

A North-east business is celebrating after being named as Scotland’s Independent Multiple Operator of the Year at the 26th Scottish Licensed Trade News (SLTN) Awards. The McGinty’s Group was first launched in 2009 with their first pub, McGinty’s Meal An’ Ale and has witnessed significant growth increasing their portfolio to 10 venues including the popular No.10 Bar & Restaurant, The Silver Darling and The Grill.

The SLTN awards, which were hosted by comedian Jason Manford at the Glasgow Hilton, celebrated and recognised the rich and diverse businesses in hospitality and the tourism sector from around Scotland, presenting more than 20 of their coveted corkscrew trophies in front of an audience of 650. Director of The McGinty’s Group, Allan Henderson, remarked, ‘It’s fair to say that we are over the moon to have received this prestigious award. After what has been such a challenging time for the whole industry, it is recognition for all the hard work that our amazing team does on a daily basis.’
