If a c nsumer does allow the information to be collected, a bright red message that reads "WE ARE WAT HING YOU" must be flashed across the screen at all times while recording. The

want to better and more quickly figure out what to sell you- a way to "super-target ads," Capuano said .

"If s meone is watching a favorite program while cleaning the kitchen, ads for products that will make appli ces shine may show up. If a couple is talking about where to dine over the weekend, or enjoying

The atent application even goes so far as to suggest that if a couple is fighting, an adverti semen.tt"'

Jone and Capuano both offered quotes in their press release.

In li ht of the government's "unfortunate history of secretly collecting private citizens ' information we must ensure

I realized this wasn't written specifically for the Xbox One.

This was written and aimed at Cable companies with DVR's. I had already read the comments section

I looked at my cable box. What if cable companies decided to do thisl We're

My Reply back

While I do agree the federal government should be very limited in its interference with

anything, this is not one of those cases. The government has a j ob of protecting your right to

privacy. It is one of the few things the government is supposed to do. I have no prob lem with

the government telling co rporations that they us.

can not punish us if we don't allow them to spy o n

The same guy replying back to n1e

The government has no such duty to protect your right of privacy in voluntary transactions I between private citizens/entities. You have no more right to an xbox without a camera than a I right to vegetables without genetically modified organis ms . Nor do yo u have a ri ght to cable.

And what if you did? Take it to the logical conclusion, what other freely produced/purchased items would you then have the right to force (by the State, legislature) producers to make

according to your whim? I don't like being spied on, so I won't buy the pro duct . That's where

the analysis stops. My reply back

It does when it is the one using said corporations to spy on the citizens. Cable companies are

also not entirely private entities. They are highly subsidized by big government. If they were

truly priv ate entities many non..; spying

ones would pop up as soon all the maj or ones started spying. Ev ery home would have a choice of 2 or more cable providers but that isn't the case for

most people.

I don't eat GMO's but would agree the government has no right to make companies label GMO products .

Fre e Market works just fine because non-GMO foods make sure it is written al over.

As a co nsumer you're left with many choices.

Cabl e companies are comp letely different. It's about the control of information. If cable

companies tomorrow could tell you that you either put in a camera or they stop pro v iding you

TV/Internet access, you're at a serious disadvantage in life. th the way things are going, that isn't completely far-fetched.

In a truly free society we wouldn't need this, but that's not where we are in history.

His Final Reply back to me. exists through State action. So maybe it is a different analysis with cable. But that is one of a

very few industries where that is the case. (Thankfully) It

as an interesting back and forth. I think I would actually argue that even in a case like the Xbox

One, as a consumer you should have the option of buying that hardware without the spy cam on it. I thi at some point, a conversation has to take place about the true role of the constitution and the fed ral government. I'm one of those that believes the federal governments j ob is to protect the bill of Sometimes the few need to be protected from the masses when it comes to the bill of rights. If rig 8 0° o of the population decided tomorrow that they don't care about their right to privacy and every

co pany out there started to put a c amera, microphone, and internet connection on their devices then req ·red you to have those parts operational in order to use the device, what happens to the 20% of pe le that don't want their privacy stolen from them? I'm talking about a stove, a microwave, a

· gerator, your cable box, your AC unit. This seems far fetched for now, but 20-3 0 years from now, I

do 't know that it will be as far fetched. I completely understand that in a truly free republic, this

wo ld never happen. But that's not what we have. We have a society filled with idiots that don't care

ab t any of their rights and will give them up for the latest gadget and a government that is loving the r new abilities to spy on the people. I think people need to be cautious when it comes to the kind of

}

leg slation. As I pointed out earlier in my replies, I don't think foods that contain GMO's should have to e labeled. I'm more concerned about a person's right to privacy in their home.

Fe eral Nullification efforts mounting in states . . . . Im gine the scenario: A federal agent attempts to arrest someone for illegally selling a machine gun. Ins ead, the federal agent is arested - charged in a state court with the crime of enforcing federal gun la s . Farfetched? Not as much as you might think.

Th scenario would become conceivable if legislation passed by Missouri's Republican-led Legislature is s gned into law by Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon. be

Missouri legislation is perhaps the most extreme example of a states ' rights movement that has spreading across the nation. States are increasingly adopting laws that purport to nullify federal

s -. setting up intentional legal conflicts, directing local police not to enforce federal laws and, in rar cases, even threatening criminal charges for federat agents who dare to do their j obs. An Associated Press analysis found that about four-fifths of the states now have enacted local laws that

dir ctly rej ect or ignore federal laws on m arij uana use, gun control, health insurance requirements and

standards for driver 's licenses. The trend began in Democratic leaning California with a 1 9 6 medical marijuana law and has proliferated lately in Republican strongholds like Kansas, where Go . Sam Brownback this spring became the frrst to sign a measure threatening felony charges against ide

fed ral agents who enforce certain firearms laws in his state. So
