Annual Solar Way Street Meet ’n’ Greet

The O’Dea Street tradition is going stronger than ever after holding its 19th annual get together on the 25th of January 2011. Hosted on Simone’s front lawn, 20 houses were involved plus 3 past residents - a fantastic turnout with 39 people! Our evening simply wouldn’t have been achieved without the combined efforts of several neighbours; with special mention to Margaret, Jim and Adriana (our local Meet’n’Greet champion). Thanks to all those who took both the opportunity and time out to catch up, meet new neighbours, swap renovating/gardening ideas and of course enjoy a good old fashioned yarn. We all can highly recommend starting up a similar tradition in your street. Additional catch ups have already been generated as a result of this Meet ’n’ Greet, commencing on the 6th of February with a group walk. Our younger generation were throwing frisbees well into the evening provided by the Town of Victoria Park and we all topped the night off with a cuppa and/or an ice-cream. An all round success, before the night was half way through, three more residents have already volunteered to host the next three events.

Great that the Town has started something to get the neighbours to talk to each other. Here in Solar Way, Carlisle we have just had our seventh annual “Say Good Aye Day“ last Saturday. Neighbours from 11 houses enjoyed each others company from 6pm to 11pm. “. . . creates Everyone brought something and encourages different to eat and enjoy and togetherness and at the end the Yellow topped that friendly wave waste bin rattled with joy as its contents awaited the recycling as we pass during program. While it would be great the year.” to extend the group further the size of the yard creates some limitations. With changes of owners comes new faces and already there are a couple of new ones looking forward to the next gathering. A great success that brings all together and creates and encourages togetherness and that friendly wave as we pass during the year. Peter Solar Way, Carlisle

Gresham Street Meet ‘n’ Greet On Australia Day eve, we decided to host a Street Meet ‘n’ Greet. We had a group of six adults and two kids attend. As we are fairly new to the street and I have a partner who does fly in fly out work, we had only met a couple of the neighbours and thought it would be nice to extend these new friendships. The get together proved to be a great opportunity to make connections and share experiences particularly within our own suburb. Several of us had shared interests. Mostly we were surprised at how everyone socialised together so well. We had 2 households who were very long term residents who were able to tell us a fair bit about the history and evolution of our street. We would definitely like to carry this tradition on into the future. Elizabeth and Gerard Gresham Street “As we are fairly new to the Victoria Park
