The price to Spray-Net kitchen cabinets starts as low as $3,500 and go upward depending on the size of the kitchen and number of cabinet doors. Most people dream about redoing their kitchen or exterior siding, doors and windows but don’t get past the concept as more than a daydream when they think about the high cost of replacement. The time required to plan and renovate the space is another reason why homeowners are turning towards Spray-Net as an alternative to replacement to fulfill their home renovation dreams. What makes Spray-Net unique is they have custom manufactured coatings created specifically for each surface for a finish that looks and feels brand new, not painted. With a patented process for application onsite, the transformation is achieved in as little as one day and has long-lasting results. The product won’t chip or peel and it’s made to last much like any factory painted surface such as brand new siding, doors, or windows. Spray-Net backs their product with a 15-year warranty against peeling and chipping.

The recent kitchen trend for 2021 has been white with the simple and warm white, Oxford White which is a top choice by designers and customers alike. Oxford White is a soft muted tone which can pair well next to marble and draw out the grey undertones. Another top pick is black pepper, a dark shade of grey which many homeowners have opted towards for an ultra modern yet sleek look for their kitchen cabinets.

Spray-Net hosts a custom visualizer on their website so homeowners can design the drastic color change of their kitchen or the exterior of the home. By uploading photos and selecting from the Spray-Net color pallet, it’s easy to visualize what the transformation will look like for each project (Check it out at spraynet.renoworks.com).

ZIONSVILLE’S INSIDE OUT SALE A NEW TWIST ON AN OLD TRADITION RETURNS NOVEMBER 13 Writer / Allyson Gutwein, Executive Director at the Zionsville Chamber of Commerce Photography Provided

It’s always a great time to shop local, but we think about shopping the most during the holiday season. Where do you go for unique finds? What will make you the best gift-giver at the holiday party? Last year the Zionsville Chamber of Commerce offered a new event to encourage people to shop outside at the beginning of the holiday season: The Inside Out Sale.

In the article Local Shopping Statistics (2021): Facts on Buying Local it stated that “Small Businesses generate $68 of local economic return for every $100 spent with them”. (fundera.com/resources/

This sale was designed in part to encourage shopping when some may not feel comfortable shopping inside and allow both home-based businesses and our brick-andmortar favorites to show off their holiday wares European-market style. First held in 2020 as a response to the COVID crisis and to accommodate reduced capacity, the Inside Out Sale was continued because of the popularity. Now we have welcomed a new tradition into our holiday activities in Zionsville. 8 / ZIONSVILLE MAGAZINE / NOVEMBER 2021 / TownePost.com

goes further to help Zionsville and Central Indiana, as a whole. “We loved getting to be a vendor at the Inside Out Sale in Zionsville last year,” says Rachel Patten of Storm Striker Art. “As a small home-based business, this sale provides a wonderful opportunity to make our merchandise available to our community during the lead-up to holiday season. It was a strategic pivot during COVID that helped businesses to reach shoppers without having to be inside. But it was so successful and fun that I am so glad it will continue to be a tradition here in Zionsville.” Please join us on November 13 on Main Street for the Inside Out Sale 2021. Bring your holiday spirit, a big shopping bag and your excitement to support the dream of a small business owner. We look forward to welcoming you to Zionsville!

THE ART LIFE

STORM STRIKER ART GAINS POPULARITY Writer / Christy Heitger-Ewing Photographer / Mariah Krafft

An elementary school art teacher by day and painter by night, Justin Patten has always been interested in art. In fact, that’s why he became an art educator - so he could be involved in art on a daily basis. He’s also a huge sports fan, and for 10 years played for the Indianapolis Hoosiers, a baseball league that played in vintage uniforms without gloves. “I’ve always wanted to blend art and sports but never had the right place for it, then Etsy came along,” says Patten, who created some sports logo paintings that sold well online. “When that happened, I was hooked.” Justin Patten 10 / ZIONSVILLE MAGAZINE / NOVEMBER 2021 / TownePost.com

In March of 2020, when much of the world shut down, Patten and his wife Rachel used the downtime to kick his art business into high gear. They named the company Storm Striker Art, after their sons, Lyle Jacob Striker Patten, 13, and Troy Storm Patten, 11. Rachel became the chief financial officer for all things Storm Striker.

They are licensed and make canvas art, stickers, ornaments, prints, magnets, tees, sweatshirts, hats and LED lights, representing the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and various schools.

GOT YOU COVERED! AffordaShare Offers Simple, Affordable Health Care Writer / Christy Heitger-Ewing Photographer / Amy Payne

Jeff Frey used to sell traditional health insurance, but with an increase of calls from clients with complaints and questions about their current health insurance plan and the constant changes, confusion about networks, monthly premiums skyrocketing and deductible amounts going up he thought, ‘there has to be another option’ for his clients. Jeff determined there really were only a couple options out there. He also realized, “You really don’t need health insurance, what you need is a way to manage and pay for your needed health care,” Jeff says. Ultimately, he found that medical cost sharing is safe, fast and straightforward. It’s kind of how health insurance started many, many years ago. Therefore, six years ago he launched AffordaShare. AffordaShare is not insurance but a private medical association. “Once you become a member with AffordaShare, you no longer need traditional health insurance,” Jeff says. His wife Lisa, also works for AffordaShare as the Operations Manager and member services liaison. Jeff says his target market is primarily Small Business Owners, Independent Contractors, Real Estate Agents, Roofers, Landscaping Companies, HVAC, anyone that does not have access to a large group plan or that works for themselves and obtains individual health insurance on their own. “Clients usually save about 30 to 50% individually or on their small group health insurance cost as well, all while still receiving great health care coverage and great customer service,” he says. A lot of people think they can only change plans once per year, but that’s not always true. Typically, you can call or email your current health care provider and cancel any time throughout the year, they just don’t want you to do that. Health care plans and health insurance plans generally are month to month and can be canceled throughout the year with a couple weeks advance notice. “At AffordaShare, we take new enrollments all year long,” Jeff says.

“THEY WEIGH THE PROS AND CONS AND, AFTER EVALUATING THE COVERAGE, TALKING WITH A LONG-TIME MEMBER AND LOOKING AT THE SAVINGS, THEY USUALLY DECIDE AFFORDASHARE IS THE BEST OPTION.”

They do, however, see an upsurge in enrollments towards the end of the year as people and small businesses are planning for the upcoming year. Fall or open enrollment is an important time for you individually and for small businesses. This is the time you are trying to assess the next 12 months of your health care cost. “This is a great time to compare AffordaShare to your current health care plan,” Jeff adds. “If we can save you money, still offer great health care protection and give you great customer service, why not do it? It’s a head’s you win, tails you tie. There is nothing to lose by simply comparing cost and coverage regardless of what time of the year it is.” AffordaShare offers many different packages of various levels, with slightly different features and benefits to fit everyone’s needs and budgets, regardless of age or medical conditions. In addition, AffordaShare serves all demographics, from younger people who just got off of their parents’ plans, all the way up to those who are ready to switch over to Medicare. “We have clients of all ages, married, single and families with children, and we are currently in 19 states,” Jeff says. If you’re not sure if AffordaShare is a good fit for you, it doesn’t hurt to check them out. You can call them up or go to the website at AffordaShare.com click on the “Get-a-Quote” tab in the upper righthand section. Just complete the info there and hit “SUBMIT.” Within 24 hours you’ll have multiple options and prices to review.

“This way you can make a well-informed, thoughtful decision on what’s best for you, your business and your family,” Jeff says. Of course nothing in life is certain. The Freys know this well. A few years ago, they got a call from a young man, 28-years-old, who was inquiring about AffordaShare because his mother wouldn’t stop telling him to obtain some type of coverage. He told Jeff he was healthy, worked out, didn’t smoke, and wasn’t sure he’d ever need or use the coverage. He wanted the cheapest plan possible. Jeff set him up with the least expensive package that did not cover annual exams, dental or vision. However, if he had a major medical event, the most he would be responsible for paying was $6,000 a year. As fate would have it, this young seemingly invincible man was diagnosed with cancer six months later. “His care and treatment extended out for

almost two years, so he paid a total of only $12,000 out of almost $150,000 in medical expenses,” Jeff says. “He is very grateful he contacted us, and so is his mom.” Jeff says a question he often hears is, “What am I not getting with you that I am getting with my current plan?” “We do not cover ongoing serious mental health issues like severe depression, mental health hospitalization or drug and alcohol rehabilitation,” Jeff says. “Virtually everything else is covered, including broken bones, stitches, ultrasounds, maternity, cancer, strokes, heart attacks and anything in between.” Though they don’t cover mental health rehab and therapy, they do cover office visits for things like depression, anxiety and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. “If you need to go in and consult with your doctor a couple times per year about your

medication, well that is just a simple office visit and we cover that,” Jeff says. Lisa finds that potential clients will often want to talk to current members to ask how easy the process is. “We have many members that have used us for years and have experienced various medical issues,” Lisa says. “I find that they are happy to share their thoughts and experiences of having AffordaShare with new or prospective members. “They weigh the pros and cons and, after evaluating the coverage, talking with a longtime member and looking at the savings, they usually decide AffordaShare is the best option,” Lisa adds. ionsville is famous for its quaint, brick-lined streets and local purveyors. Each year the Zionsville Chamber of Commerce hosts a Small Business Saturday event. This year they’ve added two days to the event, calling it Small Business Weekend. The event is November 26 through 28.

boutiques and service-based companies.

“Last year we celebrated Small Business Saturday, and people loved it,” says Allyson Gutwein, executive director of the Zionsville Chamber of Commerce. “They were so excited to support our businesses and restaurants that we wanted to make sure that people understood the importance of shopping locally, not just one day a year, but really the importance of shopping locally all holiday season. We wanted to make sure that we were going to get people kicked off on the biggest shopping day of the year by Black Friday, and continue that momentum through the entire weekend.”

Aside from physical items, gift recipients can unwrap gift ideas like a weekend away.

Participating businesses include restaurants,

“We started focusing on Small Business

“We’re excited about the change in adding extra days this year because we know many people will want to shop earlier this year,” Gutwein says. “We hear shipping delays could cause consumers issues. What better way to get a gift that doesn’t have to ship than by visiting a local business?”

“We’d be happy to suggest how to make a specific gift idea happen,” Gutwein says. “For instance, if you want to gift a staycation, the package could include a gift from a local salon, followed by dinner at Brick Street, and wine from Hopwood Cellars Winery. There are so many ways to create your own gift and still shop local.” For every dollar spent in Zionsville, 70% of it stays local, which is a win for all.

Saturday just a few years ago, and people have really embraced it because we do have so many small businesses,” Gutwein says. “We are 83% small business here in the Zionsville Chamber of Commerce. People love knowing that we have businesses here that are different and unique. It draws people here from other areas to find those unique businesses, and we want to keep them coming back during the holiday season. During the holiday season, there is so much more purposeful giving, as I call it. Let’s make sure those dollars that are destined towards being spent on others stay local.” Each day the Zionsville Chamber of Commerce will give away shopping totes to participants. “Bags might contain Zionsville Chamber or Commerce gift cards or merchant gift cards to encourage people to shop,” Gutwein says. “We want not only people from Zionsville participating, but people who live in other areas as well. It’s a fantastic community. If

we can get people shopping here during the holidays, what are the odds they’ll come back for a weekend girls trip or a trip with their family?” “ During the holiday season, there is so much more purposeful giving, as I call it. Participants are spread throughout the entire city of Zionsville, not just the iconic brick streets of downtown. “We wanted to make sure that if there’s a member of a business that is located at Boone Village, or down on Main Street, or over on Michigan Road, all of those businesses feel supported,” Gutwein says.

Zionsville Olive Oil has participated since the year the owners opened the store. “This year we’re going to feature some Christmas gift ideas,” says Angie McCloskey, co-owner of Zionsville Olive Oil. “We will pair popcorn with some of our different oils. We also have a recipe pairing where we’ll feature an olive oil and balsamic vinegar to go with a specific protein. The Zionsville Chamber of Commerce does a great job spotlighting Zionsville. We support the Chamber so they can support us.” Erica Carpenter owns Fivethirty Home, a home decor and painted-furniture store. She also serves as Chamber president. “It’s important for people to shop locally because when you support small businesses in Zionsville, it enables us to support the community,” Carpenter says. “I try to

support many local organizations. When you’re supporting and putting money into a local business, it enables us to choose a local organization to support in return.” Carpenter makes Small Business Weekend more than just a shopping experience for customers. “I try to make it an enjoyable weekend,” Carpenter says. “We’ll have some demos, giveaways, and food and drinks. We often see groups coming out shopping together on that weekend. We want it to be an experience for our customers. It’s a great time for the community to support us, but it’s also a great time for me to show my appreciation to those who support us all year long.” For more information, visit zionsvillechamber.org.
