HOMETOWN HEALTH CARE HEROES: SALUTING LOCAL HEALTH CARE WORKERS ON THE FRONTLINES FIGHTING COVID-19

We are grateful to our hometown heroes in a way that perhaps we never have been in our lifetime because we know the blood, sweat and tears that these men and women have shed in light of the COVID-19 pandemic that has swept through our country, leaving confusion, uncertainly, and blind fear in its wake. As schools, churches, restaurants, hair salons, gyms, movie theaters, shopping malls and other businesses shut down, those on the frontlines never stopped working. In fact, many put in overtime, both physically and mentally, to ensure the safety of their fellow man.

A NEW CHIEF IN TOWN MEET ZIONSVILLE’S NEW CHIEF OF POLICE MICHAEL SPEARS

Writer / Jon Shoulders Photographer / Amy Payne

that is similar to Zionsville, I thought it would be great to serve a town that size.”

As a kid growing up in Brownsburg, Mike Spears’ little league baseball coach was a policeman, and there was something intriguing to the youngster about seeing his coach serve the local community in a law enforcement capacity.

Spears adhered to his childhood aspiration through middle school and high school, and by the time his college years rolled around, he began applying to local police departments by age 21.

“He really inspired me, and I thought even back then that being a policeman would be an interesting way to spend your life and career,” Spears says. “Growing up in a town

“I met a lot of policemen in college who were going to school through a federal grant called the Law Enforcement Education Program,” Spears recalls. “There was a lot of encouragement and inspiration around me to pursue it. Indianapolis was the first department that gave me an offer, so I joined there and enjoyed it from the beginning.” After joining the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department in 1982, Spears proceeded to rise through the department’s ranks for the next 38 years. He held every rank in the department, including assistant chief for seven years, chief of police for five years and, most recently, deputy chief responsible for the performance and policy division starting in 2018. When Spears learned of the opportunity to serve as Zionsville Police Chief, he was intrigued by the idea of returning to a small town setting similar to the one he grew up in. atZionsville.com / MAY 2020 / ZIONSVILLE MAGAZINE / 5

“What I enjoyed about my small patrol area during my time with the Indianapolis police was the ability to get to know the people, the business owners and even the officers on a close, personal basis,” Spears says. “As I progressed through the Indianapolis department, finding myself with city-wide responsibilities, that connection with people was significantly reduced. So when I saw the opportunity in Zionsville, I thought it would be great to get back to connecting with people.” Spears proceeded to research the Town of Zionsville extensively and speak to Mayor Emily Styron about the state of the town. “I was impressed with Mayor Styron’s vision for the growth and the safety of the town right away,” Spears says. “She and I share a lot of the same concerns about ensuring that the community has a safe environment and the police officers are supported and

developed. After talking with her, I was even more excited about the opportunity.” Spears officially took over as chief on March 31, succeeding Robert Knox, who served as chief for eight years during a career of 35-plus years as a police officer. Spears says he plans to speak with every single ZPD officer individually during his first year as chief, to gain a clear understanding of each officer’s goals and needs for training, equipment and better serving the town. “The important thing for the officers here to know, and the public to know, is although I worked in Indianapolis before, my intention is not to bring Indianapolis to Zionsville but rather to become a part of Zionsville and assimilate into the community,” Spears says. “I want to support the town and way of life.” Spears also plans to speak with residents and local business owners about their needs and desires for improving Zionsville and to offer his encouragement and assistance. “The coronavirus has obviously delayed the process of getting out in the community and talking to the public, but it’s something I plan to do when the time comes,” Spears says. “When we come to the people, it helps break down barriers and improves relationships.” 6 / ZIONSVILLE MAGAZINE / MAY 2020 / atZionsville.com

“WE WANT TO MAKE SURE ALL THE POLICIES ARE CONTEMPORARY AND ARE CONSISTENT WITH BEST PRACTICES OF DEPARTMENTS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY”

Since stay-at-home measures were rolled out to combat the spread of the coronavirus earlier this year, the Zionsville Police Department has taken several measures to ensure the safety of officers and those they interact with, including the use of protective equipment such as masks and gloves for patrol officers and remote required training for officers as well.

During his first year, Spears also plans to undertake a review of the department’s current policies. “We want to make sure all the policies are contemporary and are consistent with best practices of departments throughout the country,” he says. “It won’t be a policy review to be critical of current policies but to ensure that the officers receive the best direction and the best set of operating instructions they can.” During his time away from the police department, Spears enjoys spending as much time as possible with his wife of 38 years, Sharon, their kids - Nicole, Danielle, Michael and Ryan and their nine grandchildren. “There’s a satisfaction that comes with helping other people - it doesn’t happen every day, but it happens frequently enough that it keeps you motivated and really reminds you why you chose this line of work,” Spears says of his nearly 40-year career. “That’s true particularly for people who otherwise can’t help themselves.”

HOMETOWN Health Care Heroes Writer / Christy Heitger-Ewing Photography Provided

Remember the days when the notion of shaking hands with a rock-n-roll star or rubbing elbows with an NBA player made your heart aflutter? Remember the way your children watched superhero movies with their eyes wide and their mouths agape as they sat, mesmerized, at the notion of being able to fly, deflect bullets and neutralize the bad guys? Remember the times you had a random encounter with an A-list Hollywood actress at an airport or a legendary musician while vacationing in an exotic location? We remember such encounters because we, as a society, have elevated Hollywood superstars, sports icons, music legends and fictitious comic book characters as heroes in our minds. It wasn’t until this spring when an insidious, highly contagious disease swiftly and jarringly upended our routines, our lives, our

families and our world that our definition of “hero” was sharply redefined. Suddenly we looked to doctors, nurses, hospital staff, first responders and emergency personnel with fresh eyes of gratitude and a renewed sense of awe as we recognized the grand and personal sacrifices they were making, daily, for the sake of their communities.

This strange and surreal experience has brought many lessons, the greatest of which is that we have heroes living among us. And for that, we are all eternally grateful. Therefore, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank these beautiful people for their ceaseless sacrifice, unwavering commitment to serve and boundless love of humankind.

Donetta Gee-Weiler, RN, MBA-MSN, Hospital Administrator and Chief Nursing Officer for Community Heart and Vascular Hospital has worked for Community Health Network for 25 years and says she’s always known it was a special place. The COVID-19 pandemic has proven that point as teamwork has taken on a new meaning.

“Caregivers are moving from areas that are no longer open to help support areas of greater need,” she says. “This means learning new roles, moving to a new site of care and even changing shifts. During such a time of uncertainty, our team is adjusting to make

sure we continue to deliver the best possible care to those in need.” Nevertheless, this is the field these men and women have chosen, and they feel driven to step up and care for humanity just as they always have. “I view the role of the caregiver as something that cannot be replaced,” says Gee-Weiler, noting that they are welcomed into their patients’ lives during the best moments (e.g., the birth of a baby, cure from disease) and worst moments (e.g., terminal diagnosis, loss of a loved one). “We are part of the family’s story as these memories are some they carry with them for the remainder of their life,” Gee-Weiler adds. “Now I think the community is finally seeing just how much these moments also mean to us. We are showing that health care is truly a career of passion to help others, regardless of the need.” Dr. William Harvey, pulmonary critical care specialist and medical director of the intensive care unit (ICU) at IU Health North Hospital, has been practicing critical care medicine for two decades. As medical director of the ICU, he provides calm reassurance to the nursing staff and communicates with administration to ask for and receive the necessary resources to treat patients.

“I VIEW THE ROLE OF THE CAREGIVER AS SOMETHING THAT CANNOT BE REPLACED.” - DONETTA GEE-WEILER -

“Although there is more stress and longer hours than usual, I feel very blessed that I have been trained to do this job and that I have an opportunity to help our citizens,” says Dr. Harvey, who is thankful to residents for their sacrifices. “We will get through this time. It will not last forever. Fortunately, at IU Health we have the resources, the manpower and the will to respond to this crisis and ultimately defeat the virus.” Dr. Raymond V. Ingham, President & CEO of Witham Health Services has marveled at the courage and fortitude of Witham’s employees. “It is amazing how the employees have all come together to do whatever it takes to help keep our community healthy,” he says. “We have people working in positions they never dreamed of before. atZionsville.com / MAY 2020 / ZIONSVILLE MAGAZINE / 9

Sports Medicine physicians and staff are doing drive through viral health screenings, clinical nurses from all areas of the hospital are covering the Respiratory Fast Track unit and COVID-19 unit that were put in place. Witham employees are working together, supporting each other to meet the needs of our community.” Just as the community appreciates our hometown heroes, they, too, appreciate the love and support they have received in return. “Their support gives us encouragement to keep going,” says MaryBeth Searles, Director Marketing & Public Relations, Witham Health Services. “We have received donations of hand sanitizer, gloves, N95 masks and more from businesses. Community organizations and individuals have brought in food and snacks, sewed homemade masks, donated flowers and chocolates for employees. Encouraging signs have popped up all around the community supporting health care workers. It’s wonderful how the community is supporting us while we support them with their health care needs.”

IT IS AMAZING HOW THE EMPLOYEES HAVE ALL COME TOGETHER TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO HELP KEEP OUR COMMUNITY HEALTHY. - DR. RAYMOND V. INGHAM -

“We have seen the community show up in so many ways by sending loving messages via social media, donating meals to feed our busy teams and planning large drive-by parades to show support,” Gee-Weiler adds. “This is such a difficult time in health care, but it will pass. In the end, my hope is that the community continues to remember how important the caregivers are and that we keep an even stronger bond we have built with one another.” When every day brings a new series of harrowing headlines, it can be easy to slip into sadness or flounder in fear. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel thanks to this army of men and women as they are the heartbeat of hope that now, always has, and always will work tirelessly to relieve pain, save lives and restore health. These individuals dedicate their lives to helping us, as a society, live our best lives. Because, as the saying goes, “When you have your health, you have everything. When you do not have your health, nothing else matters.” Thank you to all our local health care heroes for what you do each day! 10 / ZIONSVILLE MAGAZINE / MAY 2020 / atZionsville.com

CLASSIC CAKES LAUNCHES NEW PROGRAM TO SPREAD KINDNESS DURING COVID-19 OUTBREAK Writer / Christy Heitger-Ewing Photography Provided

Classic Cakes was voted Best Bakery in Carmel in 2020, listed in the top 50 Best Wedding Cake Bakeries in America by the Daily Meal, and has won numerous other accolades for their tasty creations, including Couples’ Choice Award on Wedding Wire and Best Weddings on the Knot. But all of that pales in comparison to the love the bakery has received in light of the pandemic that has threatened the existence of local businesses. When government mandates shut down so many things, suddenly all events were canceled, including birthday parties, weddings, graduations, first communions and corporate functions. “Everything was canceled so all of our orders canceled along with them,” says Megan Ritz, Cake Curator and CEO of Classic Cakes. “People weren’t having parties. And that’s really the reason you get a cake.”

Though it was a scary and uncertain time for small businesses, Classic Cakes immediately implemented several new programs to help share kindness with the community. One such program is called the Cake Fairy that enables customers to send a cake to a friend, family member or coworker. “People have jumped on this and customers are ordering them for 10 different people to spread joy and support us as a business,” Ritz says. There is also Cake it Yourself, an at-home decorating kit plus cake that is delivered to your door. In addition, Ritz began doing Facebook Live videos that include a behind-thescenes tour of the shop as well as various tutorials about how to cover a cake in fondant, how to ice a cake and favorite tools they use in decorating a cake. In a week, they had 60,000 people view the videos. The cake deliveries, which go all over Central Indiana, including Plainfield, Greenwood, Zionsville, Westfield, and Noblesville, are a big hit as well. 12 / ZIONSVILLE MAGAZINE / MAY 2020 / atZionsville.com

“To deliver those cakes and hear kids inside screaming, ‘It’s here! It’s here!’ makes me smile,” says Ritz, who has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of community support. In a week’s time, they went from having every order canceled to making 75 cakes. Granted, making an 8-inch cake isn’t the same as a 200-serving wedding cake. “We’re working twice as hard to produce a lot of smaller cakes, but seeing the way the community has rallied around us assures me that we’re going to survive this,” Ritz says. “We have brides paying off their December weddings now because they know we need that income now. We have people buying gift cards to give us some cash right now.” Client Terri Towner had Classic Cakes deliver a birthday cake to her niece when her big celebration was canceled. “My niece was so thrilled when Classic Cakes came to the rescue and helped us make her day special with a personalized, pink icing cake,” Towner says.

Even though people have been stuck at home, they still want to find reasons to celebrate. In fact, Ritz has seen an uptick in elaborate cake design orders. “They figure if they can’t do anything else, they are going to have the best cake to make the occasion special,” says Ritz, noting that they’ve done 3D baby Yoda cakes, 3D unicorn cakes, sushi cakes, and they made a special cake for a couple who had to cancel their trip to Paris. “For them, we made a 3D wine bottle with cheese & crackers and grapes all made out of sugar on top,” Ritz says. Jessica Strickland is a loyal customer who is grateful that Classic Cakes has found a way to bless others during this challenging time. “Their Cake Fairy program helps so many regain the joy and celebrations that have been taken away from them during the quarantine,” Strickland says. “Getting a

surprise cake from The Cake Fairy has been one of the sweet highlights of our time at home. Plus, they’ve made their classes available online for free so many people can learn their inside secrets about baking and decorating cakes. They are a shining light during a dark and unnerving time.” Classic Cakes also plans to donate 3,000 cupcakes to the staff at Riley Hospital. Though ingredients have been donated by McFarling Foods and General Mills, the containers and labels will cost between $500-$600 so if you’d like to donate towards this cause, visit the Classic Cakes website. “We’ve never done 3,000 cupcakes before,” Ritz says. “We’re used to 200-person weddings. But we’re up for the challenge if it means lifting the spirit of emergency responders and community support workers.” In recent weeks, Classic Cakes has also donated cakes to the staff at area hospitals,

police stations, fire stations and senior living communities. “We’re trying to do what little we can to give them a moment of joy,” Ritz adds. “Everyone is in the same position right now — looking for ways to connect during this very isolating time. For cake to be the thing that’s helping pull people together is pretty awesome.” To place an order with Classic Cakes or to make a donation, call 317-844-6901 or visit ClassicCakesCarmel.com.

H O P E F O R A H EA L I NG H EA RT Brooke’s Place Helps Children, Teens and Young Adults Grieve Writer / Christy Heitger-Ewing Photography Provided

In 1999 Pam Wright, a licensed mental health counselor, noticed a need in central Indiana for an ongoing community support program for children grieving for a loved one. With a group of colleagues Wright founded Brooke’s Place, named after a resilient young lady who lost her father in a plane crash when she was just 13. The organization has provided grief support for young people and their families throughout the last 20 years. The program revolves around the understanding that children grieve differently than adults, and need support tailored to their needs. Twiceper-month support groups are broken up by age: 3-5, 6-9, 10-12, teens, and young adults. “Part of what’s important for kids who are grieving is knowing what’s going to happen,” says Theresa Brun, executive director of Brooke’s Place. “When they come here, there is a routine they know and are comfortable with, along with people they know and are comfortable with. One 12-year-old boy told me that Brooke’s Place is the safest place on earth. That’s exactly what we want to be for these kids.”

not have a background in childhood grief or therapy. What they do have, however, is a fervent desire to walk alongside children who are grieving, and many have their own personal childhood grief stories. “They say that they wish they’d had a Brooke’s Place when they were young to help them through,” Brun says of her volunteers. Each volunteer goes through an interview process, background check, and 22 hours of training. Each learns tactical, practical ways of handling different situations that might occur during group time. Once volunteers are assigned to a group, there is a 3-to-1 children-to-facilitator ratio. “This provides flexibility in case a child needs to work more directly with an adult on a particular night,” Brun says. Bill Griffith recently celebrated his twentieth year as a Brooke’s Place volunteer, and says he has learned some powerful life lessons from volunteering.

“I have learned that a compassionate presence is more important than words spoken,” Griffith says. “The children in my groups have given me more than I could Brun calls the volunteers the lifeblood of the have ever imagined, as I have watched them organization. The majority of volunteers do learn they are not alone in their grief. I feel atZionsville.com / MAY 2020 / ZIONSVILLE MAGAZINE / 15

blessed to be a part of their journey and Brooke’s Place.” The support group setting enables children and teens to talk about their deceased loved one, and can allow them to use other coping skills and activities to articulate their pain. For instance, participants can go to the organization’s Volcano Room to rip up phone books, bang pool noodles against the walls, or express grief with musical instruments. The Expression Room provides a setting for children to draw or write about their feelings. Representatives from the nonprofit organization Paws & Think come to Brooke’s Place once per month, during which kids can interact with dogs. Humananimal interaction can be extremely impactful - a five-year-old girl who was quiet and withdrawn after losing her mom refused to open up at Brooke’s Place until an orphaned puppy crawled into her lap. “She began petting it and explained that she, too, no longer had a mommy,” Brun says. In addition to support groups, Brooke’s Place also offers an annual weekend camp for 90 campers aged 7 to 17 who have lost a loved one. Camp Healing Tree takes place during the third week of August on the west side of Indianapolis at Jameson

Camp, providing kids with the chance to do normal summer activities like rock climbing, swimming and yoga, all amidst a safe place for processing grief. The average duration of Brooke’s Place program participation is typically between 12 and 17 months, and some kids have stayed as long as eight years. “Brooke’s Place is a place where children, youth and adults discover the emotional support and energy needed to express their grief for as long as they desire,” says Ben Keckler, former Brooke’s Place board member and grief support facilitator. “That’s pretty special.”

Brun says allowing kids time and flexibility to express their grief is important, and children can grieve in waves and bursts - perhaps crying one minute and playing the next. “Changing moods doesn’t mean they’re not sad or that they’re done grieving,” Brun says. “We’re teaching healthy coping skills so that grief doesn’t negatively impact children’s lives in the future. We want to help children thrive in the midst of that grief.” Brooke’s Place is located at 8935 North Meridian Street, Suite 200 in Indianapolis. PAW S & T H I N K C O N N E C T S C A N I N E S AND PEOPLE FOR HEALING Writer / Christy Heitger-Ewing Photography Provided

No one anticipated a life that would involve nationwide closures, lockdowns and selfquarantines, but when it became clear that the 2019 novel coronavirus posed a major health threat, schools, families, businesses and individuals had to quickly adjust to living life from the inside. Selfisolation means many in-person meetings are impossible, and organizations that serve the public’s mental health have been forced to think outside the box. One such organization is Paws & Think, a communitybased nonprofit that brings joy and healing to more than 60 program partners including schools, libraries, detention centers, humane societies, hospitals, cancer support centers and elder care facilities. The organization seeks to improve lives through the power of the human-dog connection, and finding ways to adhere to this mission was a tricky adjustment to

make during the pandemic that has forced communities to socially isolate. Recognizing that mental health management is critical during this time, Paws & Think leaders have formulated alternative ways to serve the community in order to boost morale, ease stress and brighten spirits.

therapy dogs. In the videos, the handler shares a personal message and the dog might do a trick, fetch a ball or simply stare into the camera looking cute. Paws & Think leaders are also filming videos for elder care facilities so patients can enjoy the company of their favorite four-legged friends.

“We know that now more than ever, people are in need of the love and comfort a dog can bring,” says Kelsey Burton, executive director of Paws & Think.

“These folks are very lonely right now,” Burton says. “Some of them can’t even come outside their rooms.”

For starters, the staff began creating and distributing activity books to hospital patients, teachers and other partners. Activities include crossword puzzles, word searches, and coloring sheets by local artist Gabriel Lehman. Paws & Think representatives frequently visit the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, and when self-quarantining started the organization began filming prerecorded videos so that children can still see the 18 / ZIONSVILLE MAGAZINE / MAY 2020 / atZionsville.com

In addition, the staff has sent out greeting cards with pictures of therapy dogs on the front and a message on the inside reading, “Your therapy team sends you woofs and kisses.” “We want them to know that someone is thinking about them because we know this is hard,” says Burton, adding that although meeting basic, everyday needs is important, mental health preservation during this difficult time is also crucial. “There is a huge need to combat the loneliness and

sadness that comes with being alone, not to mention the uncertainty and upended routines. We want to make sure we are here to do what therapy dogs do best bring love and comfort to those in need.” The organization also offers Paws to Read story time with a therapy dog. Though this event is usually held in person at libraries and schools, it is currently offered via Facebook several times per week. “There’s a big need for this now, with schools being closed,” Burton says. “Instead of the child reading to the therapy dog, the dog’s handler is reading to the children.” Teachers are sharing these story times with their districts. Local mom Jodi Snell appreciates what Paws & Think leaders have done during the coronavirus outbreak to support the community. “Paws & Think has been an absolute gift to us during this time,” she says. “We’ve been able to take a break from the news and juggling e-learning while working from home, to enjoy story time with the adorable dogs as a family. Our boys felt super special when they were able to ask questions on the Facebook Live feed and hear back from the Paws & Think team. In addition, we were able to integrate the coloring sheets into our daily activities, and we love a good coloring contest.” As the largest therapy dog organization in the nation, Paws & Think utilizes 130 therapy dogs of many breeds. Burton, a Westfield resident, has worked for national nonprofits for 20 years and is grateful to be able to help locally. “This whole pandemic mess has been one of the reasons I love being local, because we’re able to quickly adapt to what our community needs,” she says. “The great thing about some of these programs we have implemented is that if we find people love them, we can continue them after normal life has resumed.” Research has shown that simply touching a therapy animal’s fur can reduce stress

hormones and increase endorphin hormones. Paws & Think handlers have witnessed this transformation time and again. Burton shares the story of a little girl at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital who was battling cancer. One day, when the Paws & Think therapy team showed up, the girl’s mom warned them that she had just endured several tests and was not feeling well. “She’s not having it today,” the mom said. atZionsville.com / MAY 2020 / ZIONSVILLE MAGAZINE / 19

Yet when the girl saw her dog, she rolled over from facing the wall, got up, and came over to lay on top of the dog. “She was shut down for the day, and that dog changed her attitude completely,” Burton says. Paws & Think, Inc. is located at 1346 North Delaware Street in Indianapolis. To learn more and to make a donation, visit pawsandthink.org and call 317-520-2729.

PARENTING DURING COVID-19

6 ESSENTIAL TIPS FOR PARENTS AT HOME WITH KIDDOS Writer / Abigail Hake Photography Provided

Most of us are finding an unlimited amount of time on our hands during these fairly uncertain times. While it can be a stressful time for many of us, especially parents, we will all get through it and have memories to last a lifetime. Let’s hope that these few survival tips can cut down on stress and also bring a few more smiles into your life while we all stay safe at home.

1. DISNEY+ If you don’t have it, sign up now. It’s super affordable and gives you access to the entire Disney movie library, which you are going to need because the days are very, very long and screen time rules flew out the window weeks ago. Old movies are fun to share with your kids so maybe try to get them to sit down and watch Swiss Family Robinson (a personal fave yet I still can’t get my child to watch the whole thing) or hunker down and watch all the Star Wars one after another or have a Marvel movie marathon.

2. CHALK Time to start hoarding sidewalk chalk. As the weather begins to show more signs of spring, more people will be out walking soon and with limited paths available during this time, why not sass up the walkways with some art. The best thing about chalk though is that it can go so many different directions…get creative! Draw up inspiring messages, create something giant that takes over entire driveways or cul-de-sacs, make up extra-large game boards, or even create art galleries! The possibilities are endless and remember, adults can have fun with chalk too. And, if you have a ton of chalk, share with your neighbors by leaving a piece on their doorstep and ask them to get in on the fun too!

3. PARTICIPATE IN A CHALLENGE There are lots of social media and viral challenges out there and while I’m not a huge tech fan, the social aspect of it has given way to some really creative things 20 / ZIONSVILLE MAGAZINE / MAY 2020 / atZionsville.com

happening. Maybe do a lip sync challenge video with your entire family, try the garage door challenge (if you are needing a drink and a great laugh), or participate in the plank or push up challenge. You can even come up with your own challenge if you are really feeling creative! Whatever you choose, make sure to nominate another family to try it after you do!

4. ONE-ON-ONE TIME With us all having quite a few extra moments hanging at our homes these days, we are typically all up in each other’s business. But now is the time to make sure to carve out a little one-on-one time with your loved ones if you can. About 15 minutes here and there can go a long way. Spend it snuggling in the morning before rolling out of bed if you have early risers, playing a video game, or going on a walk. It’s also important to keep in mind that as adults you might need to find some alone time too. It feels like there are really no breaks during this crazy time, so no judgment if that is time spent hiding in the bathroom.

5. TALENT SHOWS We all have hidden talents, like knowing the entire rap portion of TLC’s Waterfalls song or spinning a basketball on our finger for way longer than normal. Whatever your hidden talent, it’s time to let that cat out of the bag and show off your skills! Gather your immediate family and each share your talents one by one in the living room or make it a family challenge and invite other families and friends to participate in a virtual event! By utilizing the amazing social anyone! There are also quite a few Mexican tools out there like FaceTime or Zoom, the restaurants selling their non-alcoholic margarita mix on their takeout menus now possibilities are endless! too. Who doesn’t need a Margarita Monday (or Tuesday & Wednesday too)? It’s ok, 6. WINE DELIVERY we get it. After this, we’ll all be drinking Ina Garten style, and if you don’t know what this You are gonna need it. Pick a local winery and you will probably be happily surprised to is referring to, Google it. find out they are delivering during this time! Remember, this is a special time we’ve While I don’t encourage drinking in excess, been given to slow down and reconnect. the days can be really quite emotionally draining and a cocktail hour once a week (or Make sure to take it all in. Stay in bed a little longer, try to read that book you’ve every day - you choose) isn’t going to hurt
