Walking through the door, visitors immediately view a huge blackboard with graphics announcing local sources of ingredients along with the establishment’s social media handles. Each wood top table sports a set of small glasses and a tall carafe of water as well as a view of the coffee bar producing lattes and cappuccinos. Is this a café on Mass Avenue in Indianapolis? No, it’s actually the newest Le Peep Restaurant in Central Indiana, located just north of 106th Street and Michigan Road at 4400 Weston Pointe Drive. Kristen Merritt, Director of Marketing for

Le Peep Restaurants of Indiana explains why this site for the company’s sixth restaurant was selected.

The latest eatery is like in mid-December, traffic has been steady an old friend that got a makeover. It’s still familiar and comfortable, but more in style and non-stop,” Front of the House Manager with the times. The changes have come Susan Dodson says. “People have been about under the recent tenure of the Pars ordering a lot of the Avocado Toast and

Monday Blues which are a stack of blueberry pancakes filled with granola and topped with blueberry compote. People are loving the new Dutch Baby Pancake but they still come in wanting the Hoosier Bread. It’s amazing. It is deep-fried dumplings rolled in cinnamon sugar and then drizzled with vanilla cream cheese icing and caramel.” The restaurant has the capability to seat between 120 to 130 people. In warmer weather, an outside patio will accommodate an additional 20 to 30 patrons. Thanks to large floor-to-ceiling windows, the lighting is optimal for reading a book, doing a crossword puzzle or meeting friends. And, while the restaurant is still family friendly with many menu options for children, it also cultivates an adult vibe, too. “West Carmel-Zionsville has the newest iteration of our menu as a ‘testing ground’ for new dishes such as our Dutch Baby Pancake and BananaGerm Stack,” Merritt adds. “We are hoping to roll out this menu to all locations soon. We are also excited to offer a full-service specialty coffee and juice bar as well as mimosas and Bloody Marys.” “We are excited to be here,” Dodson says. “We get here early so we can be ready for our guests, whether they come for breakfast or even a late lunch.” Le Peep West Carmel-Zionsville is located at 4400 Weston Pointe Drive. intage Charm – a family-owned boutique that originated in La Grange, Illinois – has made its way to Zionsville’s Main Street. Inspired by Nancy Allodi’s love for antique malls and flea markets, Vintage Charm is an ever-evolving boutique that provides adorable women’s clothing and accessories. The newly-opened boutique is the chain’s fifth location, with others in La Grange, Hinsdale and Clarendon, Illinois as well as Granger, Indiana. Allodi’s love for Zionsville struck a desire within her to have a store in town. “I have always loved Zionsville,” Allodi says. “It’s such a charming village. It’s suburban, and it has a good vibe. Hopefully, we fit well within the community and thrive there. We want to immerse ourselves and make lasting relationships with our customers.” So far, both Allodi and her niece, Lisa Wood – manager of the Zionsville location – insist the community’s response has been highly positive. According to Wood, the store already had repeat and regular customers after having been opened just three weeks, and Allodi has been highly pleased with the turnout thus far. Wood – who possessed no previous retail experience prior to managing Vintage Charm – says she made a “total career change” when her aunt selected her to manage the boutique’s Zionsville location. According to Allodi, she knew her niece was the right one to manage the Main Street location in the “vibrant, great little town” of Zionsville. “I was a little freaked out at first,” Wood says. “Because it was a whole new world to me. But I wish I would have made the change [into retail] years ago.” The store’s fifth location, which opened at the beginning of October, truly displays its evolution, through both merchandise and personality. According to Allodi,

TRENDY BOUTIQUE OFFERS UNIQUE OPTIONS IN THE VILLAGE

Writer / Megan Jefferson Photography Provided by SB Childs Photography

Stefanie Childs and Lindsay Lyon met through church several years ago and have been dear friends ever since. They quickly bonded over their mutual love of blended styles such as rustic bohemian, farmhouse and a splash of mid-century modern. In 2015, they dreamed of opening an online store together and made it happen. They sold things that they loved, the products were things they would wear and enjoy themselves. They ended up having a lot

of friends who wanted to try things on. Stefanie invited them to her home for shopping parties and personal styling appointments. Soon they realized they needed a storefront space with retail hours and opened Blooms & Linen Boutique on Poplar Street in Zionsville. Their business grew and they needed an even larger space, so in 2016 they moved to their current location on Pine Street. Lyon says that she’s always been interested in fashion and has a passion for pulling outfits together. She never thought it would be a career path, but it seems to be

developing into that now. “Lindsay and I have always had really similar styles and we’ve been friends for several years,” Childs says. “Neither of us has any training or schooling in fashion, but we know what we like.” They both have entrepreneurial mindsets so it was easy for them to develop their business together. Childs and Lyon love the small-town feel of Zionsville village. They love that everyone knows everyone, that it’s cozy, historic and

unique. Because there are so many small, independently-owned businesses, Blooms & Linen fits right in. The shop owners make it a point to have items that are practical, for the everyday busy woman and mom. They purchase for the everyday girl. They want the items to be able to be worn to church or on date night. Blooms & Linen carries a lot of athleisure type styles – clothes you can feel comfortable in. “The boutique is great for ladies who don’t want to drive all the way to the mall, they

Blooms & Linen is proud to offer quality merchandise at affordable prices. The price points for jewelry start in the mid $20 and extend into the $40 range. Clothing prices start in the low $20 to the $80 range, with an average piece being $40.

The women buy in small quantities because they want to offer a wide variety of different items. Because of this, the pieces do sell out quickly. They have an online store and shopping available through Facebook and Instagram. This makes it simple for clients to order online and receive free in store pickup.

fashion merchandising at Butler University. Glass then started the largest women’s sports marketing company in the world and sold it to Time Warner. After this endeavor, she was looking for something else to do.

One of the first things Glass decided to do when she took ownership of the home was to repaint it in its original, historic color. When decorating the space, she kept the late 1800s time period in mind. Entering the antique doors is like stepping back in time. Antiques, aged rugs, period lighting and family recipes are all prominent features of Serenity.

Opening a restaurant was never something Glass thought she’d do, but she says nothing in her life has been mapped out. After graduating from college, she moved to Hong Kong and was a designer for Marshall Fields. After meeting her husband, who is from Indianapolis, together they moved back to the area. Two Zionsville Central High School (ZCHS) Robotics teams are headed to the Indiana State Championship for Robotics at Lucas Oil Stadium on March 19. Matt Walter, assistant coach for ZCHS and the coach and sponsor for the Robotics teams, says he couldn’t be prouder of his teams. “I’m really happy with what they accomplished,” Walter says. “They have been very dedicated about meeting their goals and going up against some good opponents. I’m really proud of the entire Robotics club and all of the different teams.” Walter adds that several students participate in the school’s Robotics club and participate in the VEX Robotics competition, which gives the parts they need, as well as the competition guides and motors. “We have nine total teams of three to six students per team,” Walter says. “We have 39 club members total.” Students custom design, build, program and drive their respective robots. “Many teams keep an engineering notebook, that is part of the judged components of the competition,” Walter says. “All of them did a great job of presenting their work and representing our school well.” Walter noted that the school’s 7701T “Tesseract” and 7701X “Xenith” teams qualified for the state finals. In the competition, the teams build and program a robot to overturn round discs, as well as other tasks. “Our Tesseract Team qualified by winning the excellence award at Park Tudor,” Walter says. “Our Xenith Team qualified by winning the tournament championship and the excellence award at Portage, and that team also won the Judge’s Award at the Heritage Christian competition, and the Design Award at KIDS Inc.”

ZCHS Robotics Teams Prep For State Championship In March The ZCHS team competes in the Vex Robotics series at various competitions hosted by schools around the state. “We have four more competitions through February and hope to qualify more teams for the state finals,” Walter says. “From there, the teams can qualify for the Vex World Championships in Louisville in April.”

“After that, the top teams get to select an alliance teammate for a single-elimination playoff,” Walter says.

“So much of what they are learning with Robotics goes across multiple disciplines,” Walter adds. “There are a lot of social aspects to what they are doing. They have to collaborate and be involved in competitive programs. They are also learning new computer programs and technical skills that will help them in college and their jobs.”

There is also an individual skills component to the competitions, according to Walter.

Walter says that the kids are enjoying meeting new friends and expanding their knowledge of robotics, as well.

“The team takes its robot to the field and performs alone to see how many points it can score,” Walter says. “Right now, our Xenith team is in fifth place for highest

“It’s been great to see them get so excited about what they are working on and how they want to help each other out,” Walter says. “They have made their school look great.”

9 W I N T E R T R E N D S TO T R Y N O W

Writer / Stephanie Weber Photographer / Collin Weber

I don’t know about you, but I feel like the temperature in Indy dropped drastically this year. I was ready for the change in weather though because my chunky knit sweaters were calling my name, although I might have a different opinion as the weather gets colder. If you’re like me, you’re probably having a slightly difficult time rolling out of bed in the morning to get dressed for the day. Your warm bed probably sounds much better

than putting on your work clothes and heading out into the crisp winter morning. To give you some inspiration, I wanted to share a few winter trends that are easy to include in your wardrobe this year.

I’m adding to my coat closet this year. It’s soft, generally not too bulky and easy to layer. Statement coats are great for the day when you want to actually wear your coat as part of your outfit.

1. STATEMENT JACKETS

I have to be honest in saying that I don’t always love to feel like a marshmallow in my winter coat and driving in it is the worst. It does keep me warm, but it’s great to have some variety with statement coats. We’ve seen the teddy jacket all over Instagram and Pinterest so that’s the one

2. SHERPAS

Oh, they’re back! And still just as cozy. This was a trend we saw in every store last winter. It seemed like these oversized, cuddly pullovers were designed in every color, with pockets or without pockets. Sherpas are great for your weekend running around or your evening routine with your kiddos.

3. PLEATED SKIRTS

Now hear me out before you think, “no way.” Pleated skirts were seen all over the runways for winter this year. They are being styled with sweaters, band tees and moto jackets, turtlenecks and statement coats. I personally love these skirts because the length is appropriate for work or cocktail hour and the shoe possibilities are endless to complete the look. These skirts are also great for the holiday parties you have coming up. 4. OVERSIZED CARDIGANS

8. BLAZERS

Bring on the blazers because this is a wardrobe essential. I personally rock blazers with band tees, lace tanks, regular white tees or even over sweaters. You can do so much with this piece in your daily life and transition it across seasons so, for me, it’s a must. 9. PLAID

It’s the last trend I want to highlight, but probably one of the most relatable for those of us in Indy who enjoy a good sweater or

cardigan layered with our favorite plaid flannel, curled up by the fire, sipping a White Russian. You can see the picture I’m painting and likely have a plaid in your closet right now. So, cheers to you, you’re on trend. Winter fashion is a great time to play with layers, new colors and even a fun print or two. If you’re wondering more about how to style these trends you can visit trendyinindy. com or head on over to Pinterest for some inspiration. Cheers to winter trends at their best!

Sweater weather, cardi party, whatever term works for you, cardigans are in! It seems that the more oversized they are, the better. I personally style these chunky knits with a striped long sleeve tee underneath and my comfortable Hudson denim from Evereve. You’ll also find that I’m generally wearing a comfortable bootie of some type for a relaxed look. 5. ANIMAL PRINT

Hello zebra, leopard and snakeskin. We are seeing a little bit of everything when it comes to animal print this year. Snakeskin booties or mules have been hugely popular with cowl neck cardigans and denim. I personally own at least three leopard sweaters or cardigans and a couple of shoes in the print. It’s neutral enough to be dressy and not overstated. 6. SHADES OF BROWNS

It feels like we went back to the 70s for this color to become a trend again, but designers are eating it up. Brown is one of those colors that I like because it’s different and can be used in a variety of staple pieces. From sweaters to pants to dresses, you can find this shade in all of it. 7. SLOUCHY BOOTS

The boots I’m wearing here are some of my favorite of all time. They combine two trends with the plaid print and it’s funny how much these actually go with. Slouchy boots are great with skirts or denim. atZionsville.com / FEBRUARY 2019 / ZIONSVILLE MAGAZINE / 21
