STRAIGHT FORWARD TALK

To develop a bike from first concept to functioning prototype to series production demands clearly structured work processes. It takes a team effort to get the job done. We rely on an incredible amount of people, from testers such as professional cyclists to engineers as well as customers like you, to contribute their knowledge, their thoughts on how to improve on a product as well as what they’d like to see down the line. Countless ideas are collected for every new bike project. Each and every one is addressed – either approved, discarded or improved upon step by step before rigorous testing can begin. We then build every bike in our in-house laboratories using cutting edge software and state-of-the-art machinery. All of this magic happens in Hamburg. This is why “designed and engineered in Hamburg” is printed on all of our bicycles.

Everyone who bears any responsibility at STEVENS lives and works in Hamburg. It is here where we come together each day to discuss everything. To continuously question and optimize working concepts and technologies for maximum quality of material and riding characteristics at each target price. This is why our lights turn on every morning for the last 25 years – and often go out late at night.

PERFECT PARTNERS

A product is only as good as the conditions under which it is made. This is why our developers have everything they need at their fingertips from state-of-the-art hardware to cutting edge software. Machines and test benches. Choice of material and lab equipment. Our developers are also given ample time for extensive test rides as well as the freedom to rethink the most solidly proven methods so we stay one step above the competition.

Shared know-how is worth exponentially more. That’s why STEVENS engineers work in cooperation with certified specialists and trusted partners. They are constantly in search of establishing and fostering contacts for collaborations on creative innovations. Even the tiniest of these innovations can make a world of difference to the rider. One such innovation is a pannier rack that was created in cooperation with the experts at Tubus. This rack is supported by the bicycle frame, while the struts are hidden below the fender for both a clean look and a stable ride. The goal of our collaboration with Buch+Müller is yet another example. Together we created a head light that blends in perfectly with the suspension fork. In cooperation with SR Suntour, we introduced thru-axles in the suspension forks of our pedelecs and disc brake bikes for added stiffness and safety. There are, of course, innovations that we create fully in-house if existing products do not meet our high quality demands. For our rigid aluminum forks, we developed our own form-fitting mounting bracket that is held securely in place by two bolts to prevent twisting. Our adjustable dropouts securely hold the rear wheel in position on hub-geared bikes.

NEVER STOP! There can only be one motto for somebody having their roots in cycling like we do: Keep going until you have reached the finish line – and ideally you are the first to reach it. We test in-house and work with state-of-the-art hardware and software. To make sure the results are perfect. At least until we start to question our ideas again and improve some details – according to our guiding principle: “Never stop”. That this attention to detail makes perfect sense has shown for over 25 years in numerous awards in magazine tests, in satisfied dealers and in loyal customers.

QUALITY CONTROL CONSISTENCY AND INDEPENDENCE There are two characteristics that STEVENS bikes are known for – lightweight and extremely durable. We’ll let you in on a little secret – we succeed in combining these seemingly opposing characteristics by developing, then testing, testing and more testing. And the testing continues well past the final phase where our engineers are applying their finishing touches to their masterpieces, straight through to serial production. We continuously monitor our stock production to ensure that it remains at the same high quality level as our prototype. This is why we do not separate development from production, as it is all part of the same continuous process. This is also why our designers are personally involved in and responsible for the assurance of quality in serial production.

INDEPENDENT EXPERTISE

SELF AWARENESS

We may be our own harshest critics, but just to be sure we call on outside help when it comes to quality control. We rely on certified engineer Dirk Zedler from “Zedler Institute for Bicycle Technology and Safety”. He is publicly appointed, a sworn bicycle expert and an esteemed consultant of the bicycle sector for decades.

STEVENS employees are experts in their jobs as most of them are avid cyclists themselves. The cycling levels of our employees range from grocery shopping with a kid’s trailer in tow, to avid cyclists at the competitive level. We even have an in-house masters cyclocross World Champion. It surely helps our development engineers to have direct access to colleague feedback, that’s often shared over lunch on a daily basis. The environment at STEVENS is a warm, open one where we can easily share stories of our rides and experiences with each other.

Thanks to his support we are perfectly clear on our STEVENS products’ quality levels. Not only does he test our individual products like frames (both carbon fiber and aluminum models), forks, seatposts, and wheels but also tests them in the exact combination that they are assembled on each of our bike models. By knowing our numbers, we can be both light and durable at the same time.

CHAMPIONS TODAY’S AND TOMORROW’S WORLD CHAMPIONS

Since its inception in 1991 STEVENS is closely connected to the sport of cycling. This is because our founders Werner and Wolfgang von Hacht used to be competitive cyclists themselves. Because of that it was a natural consequence to support other athletes the best possible way and with personal commitment. From top athletes to cycling projects in Hamburg schools. We support many teams and athletes on national and international levels. Successful and notable ’cross, road racing and mountain bike teams and triathletes are riding STEVENS bikes. It’s not only the athletes who benefit from this. Their honest feedback is used in turn for the refinement of our bikes.

MASTERFUL

1 Dominating the 2016 Cross Country German Championships was the newly assembled STEVENS MTB Racing team. They took home a complete set of medals on the STEVENS Sonora SL. Leonie Daubermann won gold in the women’s junior category, while her sister Antonia took home silver at her first U23 German Championships. Christian Pfäffle (picture) delivered a strong performance in his first year as elite by winning the bonze medal. In the World Championships he climbed from 100th place all the way up to 15th, passing more riders than anyone else! 2 STEVENS Racing Team proves our unwavering commitment to the sport of cyclocross since 2001. Just like in previous years, they dominated the Deutschland-Cup series. On the international level, athletes were successful on our STEVENS Super Prestige: 1 x World Champion U19, 1 x vice World Champion U23, 2 x European Champion (women elite and U19 juniors) as well as 6 National Championship titles and additional podium placings.

3 Austrian UCI Continental team Vorarlberg shows how to win on STEVENS Xenon. In 2016, the team stylishly took home the victory at Flêche du Sud (UCI 2.2). Patrick Schelling finished third overall at the highly contested Österreich-Rundfahrt (Tour of Austria; UCI 2. HC). In Cycling Bundesliga (national cycling league), the Maxx-Solar Women’s Cycling Team successfully flew on their Xenon bikes. 4 Two times German Triathlon Champion Ricarda Lisk secured some podium placings in half distance (and longer) triathlons, making full use of her STEVENS Super Trofeo in the bike leg. Another STEVENS rider, Verena Walter (picture), is always good for a top 10 in Ironman events.

STEVENS encourages its dealers to support their local athletes. More than 150 cyclists benefit from our support program, from which National and World Champions have arisen.

HAND IN HAND LOCATION GERMANY We confidently stand behind our first class suppliers from all over the world. Yet we claim that the biggest part of STEVENS bikes’ added value is that they are created in Germany. More than 60% of our bikes are assembled in Germany, and at least 85% within the European Union. We assemble all STEVENS wheels ourselves. We have installed a successful Custom Bike Program that makes us market leader in customized racing bikes and cyclocross bikes in Germany - “Made in Hamburg”, of course.

If a Hanseatic citizen has come to like someone, he or she becomes a member of the extended family. Long-term, trusted partnerships are very important to us. Many of our suppliers are business partners that produce in Germany.

For twelve months a year, we travel on German and European roads, trails and cycling paths. We rely on a network of 600 specialist retailers in Germany alone, all of whom are ahead of their competition by more than a wheel length in terms of competence and service. We maintain relations with countless loyal customers from whom we’ve received varied and valuable feedback…well before the advent of social media.

For instance, the innovative lighting for our city and trekking bikes comes from Busch + Müller located in Meinerzhagen, in the Sauerland region. From the town of Sundern, also in Sauerland, we get our SKS mudguards. And Pinion, located in Denkendorf, Germany, provides us with innovative 18-speed and 9-speed gearboxes that are real milestones on the path to a longer-lasting bicycle. The legendary Speedhub, a transmission hub that will get you to the end of the world if you want to go there, is made by Rohloff in Kassel. And our pedelecs get their smooth, strong power from motors made by Bosch whose main office is located in Gerlingen.

This is how we are acutely aware of the requirements as well as the demands of the highly discerning German bicycle market. With this knowledge we can deliver on their wishes. TECHNOLOGY CARBON OFFENSIVE For our STEVENS 2017 models - no matter which terrain they are designed for - we've used high-tech frames made of high-strength carbon fiber. In close cooperation, our engineers and frame builders brought the new Whaka and Jura carbon models to product maturity, with the final products up to 900 grams lighter than their aluminum counterparts while substantially enhancing their trail performance. Helping to achieve these goals are their topnotch component specs, such as Shimano's new Deore XT Di2 groupset with its innovatie Synchro Shift or Fox's super light Step Cast fork that is installed on our Sonora SL.

AUTOMATED

INTEGRATED

If "S1" or "S2" appears at the bottom left of the display, it means that front and rear derailleurs are controlled by one gear lever only. This technology is called Synchro Shift and provids you with the perfect gear ratio, with smooth incremental steps as you move up or down the gears, for every riding condition. You'll love it!

We are convinced that Shimano's electronic shifting has a bright future in the field of mountain biking - especially since the release of Deore XT Di2. For this reason, we built an opening at the bottom bracket area of our new carbon fullies to facilitate mounting and maintenance of the electronic groupset's rechargeable battery.

OPTIMIZED There is no frame material that can be adapted to complex stress and strain as specifically as carbon. Due to this, our STEVENS engineers are able to increase precision and stiffness while saving a lot of weight in comparison to our aluminum models. The carbon rear triangle alone on our top models is 500 grams lighter. Our entry-level models, Whaka and Jura, have less weight savings but do sell for a considerably lower price.

LIGHTER As the Sonora SL's frame doesnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t even weigh 1kg, its lightweight Fox fork perfectly matches this marathon machine. As the aluminum stanchions are tapered towards the lower end, it only weighs 1,350 grams.

Here it is decided upon whether a bike suspension "works" or not. This is why STEVENS' engineers insist on large industrial bearings and stiff rear stays. We ask Fox and others to adjust fork and rear suspension on every single bike model so it perfectly matches its intended purpose. How does this benefit the rider? Marathon fullies with trail qualities. All-mountain bikes that are lots of fun on both sides of the mountain. And an Enduro that exudes maximum pedaling efficiency.

The rear stays of all STEVENS fullies comply with "Boost" standard of 148mm clamping width and thru axle - for good reason: lateral stiffness of the rear wheel is increased by approximately 20% which especially benefits the large 29ers. In addition, there is space created for voluminous knobby tires that score on the trail with better performance and greater riding pleasure.

PIVOTAL POINT STEVENS Engineers combined a lot of features in a small area: The stiff connection between bottom bracket and suspension mount. The broadbased rear end bearing. The functional cable routing through down tube and chainstays.

PERFECTLY PREPARED High-quality chainstay protectors screwed in place shield the lightweight aluminum tubes from chain slap. There is also enough space for a small, clever chain guide (available at specialty shops such as Bionicon).

Extraordinarily precise ball bearings, kinematically-tuned levers as well as perfectly adjusted Fox Float suspension are what gives Sledge's four-pivot suspension such ideal off-road qualities. This has led to extra praise from even the most demanding test editors. In addition, we've mounted sensitive Fox 36 and 34 suspension fork and FIT4 or new Grip suspension.

THE PERFECT COMBINATION Sometimes front and rear tire have to meet completely different demands. This is why we use TrailStar Compound tires in the front which are a combination of extremely good grip for optimum steering control and braking power. While in the back we use the fast rolling PaceStar.

SIMPLE SOLUTION The single chainring mounted on the iconic RaceFace Turbine crank surely suffices for maximum downhill meters. Enduro pros are heavy users of shuttles and mountain lifts, so what's more important to them than a climbing gear ratio is the bulletproof chain guide, in this case mady by E-Thirteen.

EXQUISITELY EQUIPPED Fox 36 Factory fork with 170 mm suspension, ultra smooth Kashima coating and extremely sensitive FIT4 suspension is without a doubt the reference in the Enduro world. Since the rear triangle of Sledge MAX has to perform on the same top level, it is controlled by Float X suspension. Its factory version also comes with Kashima. Our top model is more than prepared for tough Enduro races as well as long days at your local bike park.

Our All Mountain series is trimmed to trails and tours with focus on riding pleasure in the downhills. The flat steering angle, the low standover height and the wide handlebars guarantee for maximum control when off-road. The perfectly balanced suspension system smooths out obstacles instead of them sucking energy. Its Boost standard for wider wheel axles provides our All Mountain bikes with increased lateral stiffness for better control as well as increased strength, efficiency and safety. For such strong bikes, we use strong brakes, smooth groupsets and fast knobby tires since All Mountain means fun on both sides of the mountain!

Whaka riders want an optimized balance between fun and efficiency on any trail - and a 150mm suspension as well as agile 27.5" wheels help create the best setup to meet this demand. Kinematics are adjusted to perform perfectly on trails. And suspension provided by market leader Fox plays its part to guarantee 100% trail control: 34 Float fork at the front and Float X or Float DPS rear suspension.

FULL INTEGRATION Shifter and brake cables disappear left and right of the brakes while the Vario seatpost vanishes into the frame. This is what helps to keep our STEVENS' fullies low maintenance with a clean look.

DEORE XT "XT" is the mother of all mountain bike groupsets - and proves once again on Whaka ES that Shimano knows what cyclists need: top function in all conditions. For instance, the crankset and Side-Wing derailleur reliably control the chain - even when things get serious on the trail. As the strong disc brakes are unquestionably top level as well, the label "complete Deore XT groupset" is a genuine seal of quality.

MAXIMUM PRECISION There is no other rear derailleur that changes gears as fast, reliably and accurately as the electronic XTR Di2. All settings - be it fine-tuning or desired shifting speed - are made at the handlebar display. As of recently, it is now possible to program all your preferences via smarthphone app or Bluetooth.

First, the superlight aluminum tubes are molded in a way that best matches the loads applied, then they are put together with uniform welding beads. Inner cable routing. All of these details combined result in a prime example of sophisticated aluminum frame construction - and form the perfect base for fast, durable STEVENS hardtails.

BOOST STANDARD Larger clamping width at the rear end (with 29" also at the fork) as well as Boost chainline provide Colorado 401 with an improved trail performance. Especially important for ultralight racing machines is that their disc brakes meet the optimal criteria in order to fully exploit their strengths in any riding situation. This is why our disc racers have Flatmount mountings and 12 mm thru axles for maximum safety.

With this bottom bracket, it's all about ride efficiency. The large dimension Pressfit inner bearings contribute to maximum lateral stiffness, as well as its voluminous connection of down tube, seat tube and chainstays. Drivetrain efficiency from pedal to road guaranteed.

AMBITIOUS IMPROVEMENT

Seat stays that are as slender as the ones on our Comet do not only look elegant, but increase riding comfort due to calculated flexibility that you will value especially when a ride or race takes a little longer and turns out to be more exhausting than expected.

STEVENS engineers were not satisfied until the Comet weighed less and proved to be certifiably stiffer than its already very competitive predecessor. The new elegantly tapered steerer tube does not only look great, but offers a reduced surface for better aerodynamics in fast finish sprints.

GOOD CASING

This is Arcalis, the perfect aero racing machine. It comes with integrated direct mount brakes or hydraulic disc brakes. Designed with ultra-short time trial rear end and is equipped with aero seatpost with integrated suspension. Its frame is lighter than its predecessor and is compatible with power meter cranks such as SRM.

In its voluminous down tube, the Shimano Di2 electronic cables disappear - just like cables of mechanical gears...after replacing the small covers of course. The result is a clean look that guarantees for minimum maintenance over thousands of kilometers, even under the most unfavorable riding conditions.

Finally, the pro road cyclists at the Tour de France have come to recognize that wider tires roll faster. STEVENS road bikes have been spec'd with them for a while now - up to 28 mm, often made by German top manufacturer Continental.

FIRMLY FIXED These smartly designed dropouts made of 100% carbon are typical for the light Xenon frame. Spec'd with exquisite DT Swiss wheels, like most of our race machines, with highly precise bearings and tubeless-ready rims. In order to hold them securely in place when powerfully accelerating, we rely on the RWS Road Steel quick release axles that are remarkably easier to handle than the usual eccentric quick releases.

ACCURATELY ADJUSTED You have to experience it for yourself how the Di2 front derailleur readjusts in the smallest of steps while the chain climbs up from the smallest sprocket - without any grinding noise whatsoever. Once you test the magic, it will become quite clear that it was worth it to switch from mechanical to electronic shifting.

REDUCED WEIGHT In comparison to its predecessor,the Xenon frame slimmed down by 55 grams, while STEVENS engineers managed to increase its STW value ("stiffnes-to-weight") by 10 %. They've also managed to improve the accuracy of its handling as well as its drivetrain efficiency. When mounting disc brakes, a road bike frame must not only guarantee for maximum torsional stiffness for super accurate handling, but also for safe riding at high speed. In addition, it has to be prepared for the far higher forces disc brakes induce via the fork into steerer and down tube. With the Aspin Disc, this demand is solidly met using a tapered steerer with a slim diameter of 1 1/8" at the top and lush 1.5" at the bottom.

EXCLUSIVELY WELDED Instead of resorting to standards, we design our dropouts according to our wishes and demands before forging and welding them. The new Flatmount brake sockets and Shimano's QR12 thru axles secure the brake caliper and rear wheel with 100% accuracy.

Together with our new development partner TRP, we hid the Super Trofeo's integrated brakes so well from airstream that they only slow you down when you want them to. At the front, the brake elegantly snuggles up to the back of the aero fork - the brake cable enters from the side, just like mountain bike V-brakes. At the rear, the brake lies protected behind/underneath the massive bottom bracket area of our super fast time trial bike.

LARGE DIMENSIONS The extremely aerodynamic down tube opens up into the oversized bottom bracket area which in turn merges with extra tall and incredibly stiff chainstays. In combination with Citec's 42 mm aero rims, this bike travels at maximum speed - no matter whether you are using it to compete in Hawaii or in an individual time trial.

WELL ADJUSTED FROM BIKE TO CUSTOM TAILORED SUIT All those who – like us – sit in the saddle for many kilometers throughout the year, know what the sport of cycling is all about. Be it road cycling, cross riding or mountain biking: the bike has to fit the rider. Otherwise there’s a little pinch here, a little ache there – if you spend a lot of time racing you will soon realize when there are a few millimeters too little or too many between saddle, pedals or handlebar. Because of this we offer our Custom Program with lots of options for personalized adjustments. This is why STEVENS bikes are only available at authorized dealers, where you get qualified advice and where your bike is adjusted exactly to your required measurements. It is only when your bike fits like a custom tailored suit that it will be your trusted companion for many kilometers to come.

MOUNTAIN BIKE WHEEL SIZES

STEVENS mountain bikes are available in four to six finely incremented sizes, road bikes in seven or eight. A well-fitting frame size is the basis for a bike that fits. Size alone, though, is not everything that matters. It is only on a test ride that you will see if it also fits in reach. This is the main reason why qualified advice from a local dealer remains so important. The dealer can adapt the bike to your needs with options such as different saddles, several stem lengths and handlebar shapes. It Is often the seemingly unimportant components that can influence your sitting position. Find out more at your local bike dealer!

Wide tires offer better cushioning. This is why STEVENS mountain bikes feature lots of tire clearance and are spec'd with wide tires. Our road bikes are increasingly equipped with 25mm tires. They roll with less resistance than narrower ones. At the rider-handlebar interface, thick bar tape dampens road shocks. STEVENS bikes are constructed to accommodate 27.2mm diameter seatposts. To make the post fit, we taper the seat tube which is very wide at the bottom bracket for more stiffness so that it can become thinner towards the saddle. These posts are more flexible, hence more comfortable, than 31.6mm oversized seatposts at the rider-saddle interface.

27.5" or 29" wheels – we offer both, depending on frame size, for best possible handling. In frame sizes 18" or larger, most hardtails and fullys are spec'd with 29" wheels that smooth out obstacles and roll very calmly. Bikes with frame sizes 16" or smaller are equipped with proportionally matching 27.5" wheels. This system is also applied on mountain bikes for children and youth with wheels up to 20". Only all-mountain and enduro bikes generally offer best riding characteristics and agility on 27.5".

By having your STEVENS bike maintained on a regular basis, you will keep it safely rolling for many years. Parts that suffer wear and tear, like chain and brake pads, have to be changed regularly. Gear hubs and suspension forks are subject to specified maintenance schedules.

Your STEVENS dealer offers you all the accessories needed for all day riding, from replacement tubes or locks to floor pumps. Please ask for advice. Your dealer knows all about the most current technologies and knows e.g. how a floor pump and multi-tool can facilitate a cyclist’s everyday life or which models suit your needs.

If you prefer a certain type of saddle, bar grips or pedals, your dealer can change these parts for you. You can also use a longer or shorter stem to further adjust your seating position to best suit your riding style. In addition, feel free to talk about possible minor componentry changes with your local dealer before the purchase. This kind of service is what defines a dedicated dealer and this translates into extra benefit for you on every ride you go on.

Should a material defect ever occur, the original owner is protected by the STEVENS warranty for the duration of five years. This comprehensive protection covers all defects in material or workmanship either on the frame or components that bear the STEVENS name, no matter what (frame) material.

In case your valuable carbon road or mountain bike frame has been irreparably damaged in a crash, you as the original buyer are eligible to purchase a replacement frame at a special 50 % discount. Willful damages or damages caused by negligence are excluded from this program.
