cover story

Brookfield Residental’s homes at Timberlane are graced with luxurious interiors.

Brookfield to open timBerlane aurora this fall

E

very now and then, a new home neighbourhood comes along that catapults ordinary to extraordinary. Such is the case with Timberlane, Brookfield Residential’s spectacular new home community coming this fall to Aurora. Registrations are pouring in for this outstanding home collection located at Vandorf Sideroad and Beacon Hall Drive. Nestled into a mature, prestigious enclave setting, these homes are situated just north of the highly exclusive Beacon Hall Golf Club. Befitting its distinguished surroundings, Timberlane will offer a limited collection of just 56 luxurious detached homes on 50foot homesites, with prices beginning at $1 million. Purchasers will be able to select from elite bungalow and two-storey residences designed and built to a superior caliber. The name “Timberlane” speaks to this community’s rich natural setting. The Town of Aurora is partially situated on the breathtaking Oak Ridges Moraine and is characterized by scenic rolling hills, green spaces and majestic mature trees. Through

the Town, there are hundreds of acres of parkland and a pedestrian trail system that meanders 25 km through wooded areas, fields and wetland habitats of the Holland River Valley Trail and the Moraine.

In addition to lovely natural spaces, Aurora is graced with a diverse array of schools, shops, restaurants, parks, conservation areas, daycare facilities and recreation centres. With GO Transit access and Highways 404 and 400 close by, a trip to Toronto takes just about half an hour. This Town offers such a high quality of life that it is one of the GTA’s fastest-growing municipalities. In fact, this year, MoneySense magazine named Aurora in the top 20 “Best Places to Live” in Canada. Within this vibrant context, Timberlane’s private cul-de-sac design will provide an ambience of exclusivity amid the existing residential homes that surround it. Think of Brookfield’s community as a tranquil hideaway, far removed from urban hustle and bustle, yet only minutes to amenities when you want them. Distinctive architecture will

feature Georgian and Craftsman styling – perfect for this historic Town. These homes have interiors with bright, open spaces, gourmet kitchens, spacious family rooms and sumptuous master bedrooms and ensuites. Whether entertaining a crowd, relaxing with the family or carving out some quiet “me” time, these layouts feature ideal spots for all of the above.

Purchasers are also sure to be impressed with the high level of standard appointments included in each home – plus, Brookfield’s 4,000s square-foot Inspiration Studio showcases thousands of upgrades, enhancements, features and finishes available to help personalize and customize your surroundings. From ultra-modern to classic, the choices are phenomenal, and professional décor consultants are on hand to make the colour selection appointment exciting and fulfilling. To make it easy on buyers, Brookfield offers in-person browsing hours to familiarize yourself with the studio before your appointment. The permutations and combinations are thrilling, and your décor professional will help you choose what reflects your personality, taste and needs. Timberlane comes to you from one of Ontario’s most skilled and passionate builders. Brookfield Residential has been building quality homes in outstanding new home communities across Ontario since 1956. This forward-thinking builder has evolved with changing home buyer needs, and has built a reputation as an industry leader and innovator. Brookfield employs the highest

ENHANCE WARMTH WITH FALL/WINTER DÉCOR

A

h, autumn, when the leaves create a patchwork quilt of colour, and the air turns crisp enough to remind us that snow is just around the corner! This is the season when a little fall-inspired décor can lift your spirits. The great news is that you can add warmth and seasonal appeal to your surroundings with a few simple changes that will carry you through to spring. Using a little ingenuity and creativity, you may even be able to achieve a new look without emptying your wallet! Search through boxes of items you’ve packed away over the years and rediscover linens, accessories and knickknacks you can enjoy all over again. Take it room by room and come up with a plan. Front Porch • Hang a wreath made from twigs and pine cones on your front door for a welcoming effect. • Toss a plaid throw in fall colours over a rocking chair for a wonderful nostalgic look. • Place pumpkins, straw bales or greenery arrangements highlighted by tree branches on either side of your front door. • Welcome mats are inexpensive – consider purchasing a different one for each season.

• Group candles on surfaces and light them for ambience. For an autumn look, place popcorn kernels in the bottom of a glass candle holder and nestle the candle into them. Placing candles for mood works well in just about every room in your home, even the bathroom. Nothing says pampering like a hot bath in candlelight. NOTE: I caution you to keep safety in mind. My neighbor is an insurance adjustor, and he has told me that one of the major causes of fires is unattended lit candles. Light them only when you are in the room.

• Why wait for the holidays to string up lights? Add a strand of tiny white lights to a tall potted plant to brighten up a corner, or frame a window for emphasis. • Add a large floral arrangement that has weight to it, such as an umbrella stand holding stalks of dried wheat, or a floor-standing vase filled with seasonal dried blooms. • Cut and carve out gourds or squash to serve as temporary vases for fall flowers, or place one spectacular autumn leaf into a bud vase. Kitchen • Add placemats in warm colours or heavier weaves

• Think about hanging heavier window treatments such as wooden shutters, or damask or corduroy draperies with tiebacks to make your rooms feel like cozy cocoons. On a practical note, they can also help to minimize heat loss through your windows. • Substitute your current sofa throw cushions with some in darker, solid fabrics. And if you haven’t looked for throw cushions in a while, do you ever have a treat in store! I have seen the most amazing sofa cushions in every colour and shape imaginable, from tailored styles with upholstered buttons, to intricate floral-patterned pillows with fringe.

Connects people and ideas, and can be reached at writer@wsws.ca

• Place an area rug over carpeting in your family or living room for a layered look. Again, this doesn’t have to entail a major outlay of money. You can find amazing sales on smaller rugs you can roll up and stow away in a closet during other seasons of the year.

• Accessorize with copper or gold knickknacks rather than glass. These will inject richness into your décor, as well as reflect the light for a charming ambience.

Living Room

on your kitchen table. Go for solids, plaids, florals … the choices available today are outstanding. • Appeal to all of the senses. Place a pot of water on a burner, add cinnamon sticks, orange peels and/or cloves and simmer. This comforting fragrance will waft through your home. Heat up some apple cider for a tummy-warming treat. Bake bread, cookies muffins. And how about homemade soup? In the chilly weather, there’s

nothing like coming inside to a bowl of minestrone, chicken noodle or tomato heaven in a bowl. Dining Room • For a country look, throw a colourful quilt over your dining room or kitchen table as a tablecloth, or arrange it on the table diagonally for visual interest between meals. Of course, you want to be sure it’s not a priceless heirloom that can’t take a little spilled gravy or cranberry sauce. • For centerpieces, think wooden bowls filled with acorns, pine cones, fallen leaves and other natural items, or a cornucopia basket filled with fruit and gourds. • Tablecloths can be inexpensive, and there are gorgeous choices out there in plaids and leaf patterns. Corresponding or contrasting cloth napkins and fall-looking napkin rings can help you create a table setting that will wow your guests. • If you’re REALLY into seasonal décor, take a cue from one of my sisters-in-law, who owns several sets of dishes. She pulls out whichever set is appropriate for the time of year. She is always on the lookout for accessories that can accompany her dinnerware sets. From whimsical to elegant, these can help to accentuate the mood you want to evoke. Embrace the beauty of fall and celebrate the season inside your home. Warm up your décor – and have fun in the process.
