Belek’s fourteen magnificent golf courses – including three new designer courses opened in the last year – set a new benchmark for quality golf.
A
trio of top new golf courses is helping Turkey’s southern coast raise the bar for golf in the Mediterranean to new levels. Known as the ‘Turkish Riviera’ this region is one of Europe’s fastest-growing golf destinations. Development is centred on the purpose-built resort of Belek, less than 20 miles from the main regional gateway of Antalya. In just 15 years Belek has gone from having no golf at all to possessing 11 clubs offering 279 holes on 14 outstanding courses. been tipped to be one of the star destinations for UK holidaymakers this year, despite purses being tightened because of the recession. Turkey also ranked as one of the top-three future hotspots for golf tourism in the Golf Travel Insight report published by international consultancy KPMG’s Golf Advisory Practice, in November. What’s more, all of its courses and hotels are located along a short stretch of coastline, within minutes of each other. A favourite with UK golfers is the ‘all inclusive package’. Belek’s popularity with holidaymakers is growing in leaps and bounds. Its excellent climate is a major attraction, as are its beautiful sandy beaches. ANtalya Golf Club 25 minutes from Antalya Airport is Antalya Golf Club, home of the world famous Pasha and PGA Sultan Golf Courses.

pened in 2002 and constructed by European Golf Design alongside Irishman David Jones, a consultant designer, the Pasha course is immaculately manicured with four par-fives, undulating Bermuda greens and plenty of eucalyptus and pine trees lining the fairways. A must-play course, accuracy is the key thanks to its numerous doglegs and water hazards. The longer PGA Sultan course was also constructed by European Golf Design with David Jones. It is regarded as a more challenging course than the Pasha and has firmly established itself as a big favourite with golfers visiting Belek. Despite only opening in 2003, it has already hosted a number of professional tournaments, testing talented players with its combination of water hazards, sand traps, rolling fairways and very tall, established pine trees. This highly recommended course will host the 2012 Eisenhower Trophy and the annual PGA National Pro-Am Finals.

The Kaya Belek hotel and its golf course the Kaya-Eagle make for one of the best value all inclusive holidays in Belek. The Kaya-Eagle golf course is one of the best ‘holiday style’ courses in Belek as its wide fairways and shorter distances provide a chance to score well. CARYA GOLF CLUB The Carya Golf course designed by Thomson, Perrett & Lobb has taken its inspiration from classic heathland courses in the UK such as The Berkshire, Walton Heath and Sunningdale. The Heather theme is mostly a cosmetic feature to the course, with characteristic white sand bunkers and water hazards providing the main challenges.
