PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN: What an awesome day! Being part of South Africa’s history by voting in the general election in London (right) was the greatest feeling, shared by 7427 other Saffas queuing in the hot sun in front of South Africa House. Yes, the one day the sun shines in London, and we have to queue for hours! Thumbs up to the IEC who handled the situation well. Officials were friendly, helpful and efficient. People started queuing from 4am and you could feel the excitement in the air at Trafalgar Square. Tourists were constantly asking what we were doing – telling them about casting our votes came with a sense of pride.

FINAL 1338 REG Letters 6 7.indd 6

It’s not often a letter makes me want to write in, but after reading Melanie’s comments about the world gone mad (‘No Escaping Jade’, TNT 1337) I wanted to respond. Jade Goody may not have been the UK’s favourite “celebrity”, but she did more than most for raising global awareness of the importance for young women to have regular smear tests and to follow up if abnormal results come back. For the thousands of people who have lost someone to cancer, Jade’s mum, husband and two small boys who are going to grow up without a mother, the inconvenience of an article in the news is a small price to pay. Some may think this is an overreaction, but I think it’s

GET IN THE PICTURE I can’t be the only one sick of the grovelling in Desperately

keep your photos safe, even when you’ve had seven snakebites too many: back up photos on a computer, get a Photobucket or Flickr account, store photos on a 16GB memory stick, get Boots

There are ways to keep “ your photos safe, even after too many snakebites ” Seeking by someone who went out, got drunk, lost their camera and now pleads for the return of their “precious” photos. I’ve done it too, but I also backed up my memory card, so all I lost were the photos from that particular night, which still sucked but not as much as losing the past three years’ worth of photos. There are lots of ways to

to burn photos to a CD, or go old-school and print them and post to Mum for safekeeping. All it takes is a little bit of forward-planning! Elizabeth Clayton, via email
