2017 IVY LEAGUE CHAMPIONS C O A C H ’ S

There are many women who helped us in the last five years get us to this point, that were not on the podium. This was not 16-0, Ivy Championship Title, Ivy Dual Meet Title, Ivy League done overnight, it was accomplished by a steady improvement Championship point total record, 3.60 Team GPA for 12th in of those that believed we could. The '16-'17 Team followed the NCAA, Ranked 24th in CSCAA Coaches poll, 12 school records, 2 Ivy success of those teams that came before them. The '16-'17 Team Swimmers of the meet, Ivy Diver of the Meet, Swimming Career took ownership of their goals and took advantage of every High Point, Ivy Diver Career High Point, Ivy Coaching Staff of the practice and meet to get better. The norms established were Year, 34 NCAA "B" cuts, 14 First Team All-Ivy, 9 second Team those of excellence. They coached each other and held the All-Ivy, 6 Ivy Championship Records. team and every individual accountable. 2017 WAS A REMARKABLE SEASON.
Many thanks to all of the alumni who came to our meets this season especially the big turnout at HYP and Ivies. The team felt your presence with every swim and dive. We appreciate all of the emails, texts, FB posts from you. It helped more than you know. We took pride in continuing the tradition and history of this remarkable program. Thanks to John Lapides for providing us with the photos to remember this special season forever. I want to especially thank Frank Keefe for his wisdom along the way, and for being there to present the Frank Keefe Trophy to this team. They wanted nothing more than to bring it back to New Haven, where it belongs.
C CO OA AC CH H’ S’ S C CO OR RN NE ER R / / MME EN N Greetings from “Snow Haven!” As I write this on March 15th and it is 20 degrees outside with a foot of snow on the ground and more snow predicted later in the week! Good thing the team is off (hopefully) somewhere warm enjoying the 1st week of spring break! The Yale men enjoyed a successful dual meet season finishing 10 – 2 which was good for 2nd in the final league standing. At the Ivy Championships in late February we had a very successful meet winning 4 events – breaking 3 pool records while establishing 5 new Yale records.

TIM WISE ROBERT J.H. KIPHUTH HEAD COACH YALEMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Juniors Kei Hyogo and Aaron Greenberg have been invited to compete at the NCAA’s which take place March 22 – 25 at IUPUI in Indianapolis. This is the 4th year in a row we have been invited and the 3rd consecutive year where we have had multiple swimmers invited. Academically, Fall 2016 was another productive semester for our student – athletes. Our cumulative 3.53 ranked 3rd highest nationally and 1st amongst Ivy League schools. We are ever grateful for your support and encouragement throughout the year and hope to see as many as possible this spring for reunions. Thanks so much. Boola! -Tim

On the Women’s Ivy League Championship . . . I am very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the women’s historic Ivy win. There were many who have dreamed and helped make this happen. The win is a culmination of the dedication the 34 athletes on the team, alumni, coaching staff, sports administrators present and past, and many others in the athletic community affiliated with our program. It was tremendously exciting for everyone participating and watching the championships. I am very thankful for our women’s swimming and diving staff, Head swimming coach, James Henry, assistant coach Kerry Smith and Volunteer assistant Monica Dornick, for their leadership and support of the diving program here. We were a unified team, swimmers and divers, all working together towards a common goal, winning Ivy’s. This has been a dream for many of us including me. Like all dreams it still seems a little surreal. - Chris
