3,000 metres above the highest of demands

The higher the better! At 3,000 m above sea level, 80 % of all precipitation falls as snow (compared with just 10 % in Innsbruck). As a result, Tirol’s glacier ski resorts have average snow depths of up to 6 metres. Thanks to „inversion“, a meteorological phenomenon observed in autumn and winter, it is often sunny and clear up on the glaciers at 3,000 m while further down in the valley it remains foggy and misty. Therefore, glacier skiing generally provides sunny conditions and excellent visibility.

The 5 Tirolean glaciers are not just your average ski resorts: these mountains epitomize the pinnacle of fun. More ski pleasure, bigger panoramas, state of the art infrastructure, culinary highlights and top class events are guaranteed at 3,000 metres above sea level.

At over 3,000 m altitude the views get more spectacular with every vertical metre you ascend. Visitors to the viewing platforms and vantage points in the glacier ski resorts can marvel at up to 50 mountain peaks over 3,000 m in altitude.

The five great glacier ski resorts in Kaunertal, Pitztal, Sölden, Stubai and Hintertux inspire with nigh on 3,000 kilometres of slopes as well as numerous off-piste skiing opportunities, high altitude cross-country ski trails and Snow Parks set in magnificent natural landscapes. Frequent skiers should take advantage of the White5 glacier ticket or Tirol Snow Card to explore the diversity offered by the glacier ski slopes.

3,000 metres above it all

Coffee to go at 3,000 metres

The most beautiful runs are guaranteed at 3,000 metres above sea level. And that is true all year round at the Hintertux Glacier, where snow-sure conditions prevail 365 days of the year. Austria’s one and only year round ski resort knocks spots off the rest with 60 kilometres of the finest slopes and 21 state of the art lift systems. Pros, up-coming skiers and amateur athletes from around the world are continually impressed with the high quality of the pistes.

French-fries, bratwurst and that is it? You’ve got to be kidding! The 5 Tirolean glaciers set trail-blazing standards in high class dining at 3,000 metres. Austria’s highest confectioner can be found in the mountain restaurant at the Pitztal Glacier, where delicious cakes are baked for Austria’s highest café, Café 3.440.

„57 nations have already trained with us at the Hintertux Glacier: this requires a huge amount of coordination as we often have 60 teams in training on the same day, which should by no means get in the way of our regular guests skiing fun. 160 employees are engaged in summer to ensure this is the case.“ Jürg Tarmann, Piste Manager at the Hintertux Glacier. 02 |

www.gletscher.tirol.at

„We are, I believe, unique in Austria: we bake cakes of the highest quality at this altitude. Only two of us work in the confectionary, three on busy days. We try to make everything ourselves and not use any processed products, which can’t be taken for granted in this day and age“. Norbert Santeler, pastry chef on the Pitztal Glacier for the last 32 years.

3,000 metres above public viewing

Tirol’s best network can be found on its glaciers, where state of the art cable car technology shuttles skiers comfortably and safely to the peaks. The most spectacular expansion of this season has been made at the Stubai Glacier, with the 4.7 kilometre long 3S-Eisgratbahn. Not only is it incredibly efficient, but elegant to boot: the gondolas with real leather seats and panoramic glass were designed by Pininfarina.

The mountain is transformed into a stage for the most spectacular events at 3,000 metres: For super-fast downhill runs, concerts and unparalleled festivities. Sölden and its imposing glacial backdrop has, in fact, been host to the world’s biggest open-air contemporary performance for the past 15 years: HANNIBAL tells the story of the great warlord from the ancient world, who crossed the Alps with 60,000 men, 37 elephants and thousands of horses in 1,000 days.

„If you want to draw comparisons, you could say: Yes – this lift is the Ferrari of all cableways. Journey times have also been slashed by half. A cable car must of course be efficient and operational, but it is certainly no disadvantage if it looks good too.“ Cableway director, Andreas Kleinlercher.

„All Tirol plays along: 500 people, both on and backstage. The ski instructors and amateur actors come from across the country, the actors from New York, Spain, New Mexico. The glacier is the stage for the whole world“. Ernst Lorenzi, Hannibal Organiser

3,000 and 5 metres above monotony There is always something on at 3,000 metres: to ensure high spirits prevail away from the standard slopes, Snow Parks in the Tirolean glacier Resorts are shaped to perfection. The Park at Kaunertal Glacier provides snowboarders and freeskiers with the highest fun factor. The season starts here in October and airtime junkies can hone their tricks right through to June. „The glacier offers something for everyone, from beginner to pro. As far as I am concerned, the best Snowpark is the one with obstacles that induce no fear. The park should be a playground. Kaunertal has successfully achieved this aim.“ Flo Achenrainer, filmmaker and former professional snowboarder.

High pleasures at 3,000 metres The Pitztal Glacier is a blend of superlatives; it is Tirol‘s highest glacier and stands at the foot of Tirol’s highest mountain, the Wildspitze (3,774 m).
