Brightwells appointed to sell the entire contents of The Stondon Motor Museum - all at no reserve Brightwells are delighted to announce that they have been appointed to dispose of the entire contents of the Stondon Motor Museum in Bedfordshire, one of the largest private collections of classic vehicles in Britain. The museum’s owner, John Saunders, began collecting about 25 years ago and decided to open his collection to the public in 1994, regularly adding to the stock as the years rolled by. The incredibly diverse collection eventually filled eight halls and comprises almost 150 cars from the 1920s to the 1990s, around 60 motorbikes, plus numerous other vehicles ranging from buses, fire engines and armoured cars to gyrocopters, invalid carriages and a giant Soviet rocket launcher! Not to mention an extremely rare Romany caravan, a replica of Stevenson’s Rocket, a Rolls-Royce jet turbine engine, a Saunders Roe helicopter and many fascinating items of automobilia. “We have spent many happy years amassing the collection,” said John’s son, Chris Saunders, “but the care and maintenance of such a large and diverse assortment of vehicles has become increasingly onerous and we have now decided that the time has come to move on. We have enjoyed a close working relationship with Brightwells over the last few years, using their services to buy and sell on a regular basis, and we have now appointed them to handle the dispersal of the entire collection, all to be sold at no reserve.” The vehicles are all in the process of being moved to Brightwells’ 10-acre sales site in Leominster, Herefordshire, and will be sold in two stages. The first sale will comprise over 60 classic motorcycles and will be held on Wednesday 29th April, with viewing the day before. The second sale will comprise almost 150 classic cars plus buses, fire engines etc. and will be held on Wednesday 10th June, again with viewing the day before. A fully illustrated catalogue will be available about 10 days before each sale, and an online catalogue with full descriptions of all the vehicles plus multiple photos of each will be available to view on the Brightwells.com website about a month before each sale. “We are absolutely delighted to have been entrusted with the task of handling the dispersal of such a large and fascinating collection of historic vehicles and motoring ephemera,” said Brightwells’ Managing Director, Richard Binnersley. “A huge amount of planning and logistical organisation has gone into the preparation for each of the two sales and we are confident that everyone who attends will have a marvellous time, not only being able to see such a wonderful collection all gathered in one place, but also having the opportunity to bid on anything that catches their imagination. As all the vehicles are being offered at no reserve, we urge everyone to put the dates in their diaries now – everything will be sold, no matter what, so this is your one and only chance to grab a slice of motoring history.” For more information or high resolution photographs, please contact Toby Service at Brightwells on 01568 611122 or email classiccars@brightwells.com
