St. Nicholas-St. Mary students earn scholarships MMI students excel at Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science competition Thirty-nine students from MMI Preparatory School, Freeland, earned awards during the regional convention of the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) hosted by King’s College in Wilkes-Barre. Thirty students earned first-place awards and will continue to the statelevel competition at the PJAS State Convention hosted by the Pennsylvania State University, University Park, in May. WILKES-BARRE: Zebra Communications, Wilkes University’s student-run public relations agency, will be hosting a college night from 8-11 tonight at Mulligan’s Irish Pub, Wilkes-Barre. The event will be held in an effort to raise money for the Special Projects Under Development (S.P.U.D.) Group, an HIV and AIDS support group that helps those in Luzerne County and six surrounding counties. The event is for all local college students and the general public. DJ Ooh Wee will provide musical entertainment. Donations will be accepted at the door.

Several students from St. Nicholas-St. Mary School were recently notified by Holy Redeemer High School that they had attained scholar status from their results in the entrance test. Aleksander Ruskoski, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Ruskoski, Wilkes-Barre, placed as a Royal Scholar, one of the top two students taking the test.
