The seat rumblings actually leave your body vibrating long after it’s done, and the side-toside motion perfectly captures real-life movement, whether it’s taking a sharp turn in a car or the subtle floating sensation of hitting zero G’s on a rollercoaster. The vibration is much less jarring on a low setting, and the seat movements are not as pronounced, but it’s still enough to make you feel as though you’re a part of the action. Each shift and set of vibration is meant to match what’s on screen. A door slam is a door slam, whereas a car crash is a car crash. Everything is based on what you would feel in real life and is carefully crafted. “Everything is scripted by an
artist,” Amato said. “An artist went through that film frame by frame, painstakingly.” “I can’t stress enough that this is an art form.” D-Box started as a speaker company, then moved into motion simulation in the 1990s. It produces flight simulators for pilot training and has sold space shuttle simulation to NASA. Amato said the artists who put the movements together are often musicians and cinematographers with technological knowhow.
