DRAWN TO THE WATER

Only a few weeks ago, judges from the American Water Works Association, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the University of South Florida and the Southwest Florida Water Management District got together for drinks — of tap water from 19 entrants in seven neighboring counties. The winner? The city of Dunedin, in northern Pinellas County. Water plays a starring role in many of our activities, from recreation to daily maintenance. Floridians take to it yearround, swimming, boating and paddle-boarding, even as we try to make sure our intake of the vital liquid is sufficient. This water-themed issue of Bay focuses on swimsuit styles, spa experiences and even a new charter-yacht vacation offering. You’ll read about an artist who uses water in her silk paintings. And you’ll discover how it powers even a routine task such as washing clothes. Springtime in Florida is one of our favorite seasons, ideal for pleasurable pursuits. At a recent gathering in one of our local waterfront parks, a friend put it well. “We get to live here! she said. That we do.
