OAK BAY BEACH HOTEL MAKES THE SEASON ENCHANTING

C

T

he Holiday Season in Oak Bay is wonderful. From the Oak Bay Avenue Christmas light-up to the amazing window displays that catch your eye as you drive past, Oak Bay Bikes has always loved participating in the magic of the season. We feel so lucky to be part of such a special community. Being your local bike shop is something we take a lot of pride in. Here at Oak Bay Bikes, we have our own Christmas traditions. For over 25 years, as the holiday season gets going, the owner's wife comes in and transforms our window display into a magical scene. She handsews advent calendars and crafts fun ways to display Santa and his elves. She spreads the joy of Christmas around the shop, one sparkly bow at a time. This year, we wanted to bring a fun way to spread that joy to you. On top of our usual 10% off kids' bikes for the whole holiday season, we are also doing a

25-day countdown to Christmas. Every day, we are picking one of our favourite items and putting it on a huge sale. The item will be announced on the day and will only be on sale for that one day. Each day, the item will be announced on our social media, website, and in-store! We hope you follow along with us! As always, we will be offering our free local delivery on all online and in-store purchases or bike services to the Greater Victoria area. Additionally, our completely free demo-ondemand service means we will bring an E-bike to you, drop it off so you can ride it where you feel comfortable, and pick it up when you’re done! We would love to share this holiday season with you, so if you’re in the area, drop by and visit us in person or online. Whether you’re looking for a gift for someone special or just dropping by to browse, we’d love to see you! Happy Holidays from our family to yours.

HOLIDAY MAGIC AT CARLTON HOUSE

A

s the holiday season unfolds, Carlton House of Oak Bay undergoes a magical transformation. The building is decorated from head to toe with twinkling lights and beautiful ornaments. Inside, the residents enjoy a bustling calendar that echoes the spirit of the season. There’s lots to do at Carlton House, and this month the calendar features many holiday favourites like wreath making, cookie-decorating, Christmas

light tours, sing-a-longs, and various live performances. Amidst this festive lineup, there is one event that always takes center stage — the annual Christmas Gala. A cherished tradition since Carlton House opened its doors in 2005, the Gala is an embodiment of celebration and friendship, hosted by owners Judi Prewett, and Steve and Betsyn Clark. On the eve of the event, the air is filled with anticipation as residents, dressed in their finest

attire, gather for an evening promising excitement beyond the ordinary. Each year, the festivities kick off with a lively champagne reception in the Oak Room, featuring a trio of musicians who set the tone with everyone’s favourite Christmas tunes. Residents spend this portion of the evening mingling, enjoying canapés, and drinking delicious bubbly. Many sing along with the music, and some even get up and dance!

When the clock strikes six, the magic transitions to the beautifully decorated dining room, where residents settle in for an amazing three-course meal. Amidst laughter and merriment, the owners raise a glass to the residents, thanking them for being a part of this very special community. The culmination of the night is marked by a poignant moment when each resident is presented with a delicate rose by the owners. More than a mere

gesture, the rose symbolizes true appreciation, care, and the enduring sense of community that defines Carlton House. In the heart of Oak Bay, Carlton House isn’t just a residence; it’s a home where cherished memories are made, and the holiday spirit is embraced year after year. It’s a place where holiday magic comes to life, and residents are not just neighbors; they are an extended family sharing warmth, laughter, and the joy of the season.

t The Old Farm Market, we want you to feel confident knowing that you're getting great produce at the best prices. This winter, we've gone Back to Basics and put even more care into our produce prices during these tough economic times. Every week, we compare our produce prices with the industry and triple-check to ensure we're indeed the best place to buy produce. Spending $20 on produce elsewhere would cost about $13 at The Old Farm Market. We want you to know that we’re Not Corporate – Not Complicated. You don’t need a membership card to get the best prices or deals; every customer gets that by default.

The most recent update at our Oak Bay location involves a management change. Our beloved store manager, Kyle Penny, has taken on the Category Manager role for our Produce Division and is excited to bring you great produce at the best prices. RJ Forbes has stepped in to take over the store, and he’s a face you’re sure to recognize as one of our former Produce Managers. Come down and say hi to RJ and the team – RJ will make sure you’re taken care of. Thank you to our amazing customers for supporting our local business! We can’t wait to bring you our next update! -The Old Farm Market

B

eing able to hear what’s happening around you should be a joyful experience. And for many it is also extremely important to their quality of life. Although hearing loss is very common especially in older adults, it often goes undiagnosed and untreated. Katie Kobel, senior manager of audiology at HearingLife, emphasizes the significance of seeking professional guidance: “The purchase of hearing aids is a substantial investment, both financially and temporally. Simply buying expensive devices doesn’t guarantee optimal results.

Hearing aids require personalized fine-tuning by a professional to unlock their full potential.” Your first step should be to book an appointment with a local hearing care professional. They’ll listen to your individual hearing needs and suggest solutions that work for both now and the future, with follow-ups to ensure ongoing satisfaction. “Follow-up care is important at HearingLife, so we will incorporate your feedback on hearing aid performance at follow-up consultations,” says Katie. “As your hearing changes over your lifetime, we can ensure that,

through a regular schedule of maintenance follow-ups, your hearing aids continue to perform well years from now as they do when you are first fit,” she adds. Better hearing opens the door to a world of improved social connections and the ability to enjoy the best quality of life. We all want to have the best hearing possible.
