Located just off the square in downtown Newnan, Ten East Washington offers a warm, welcoming staff in a charming, relaxed, candlelit atmosphere. Dishes are superbly prepared by Chef/Owner George Rasovsky. “A place that reflects the love of Southern hospitality with a European flare, and a passion for quality and excellence.” Meet Chef George Rasovsky After leaving his homeland of then Czechoslovakia at the age of twentytwo, and working in resorts and hotels in Europe and the United States, Chef George Rasovsky arrived in Newnan, Georgia in 1995 where he fulfilled his lifelong dream of opening a fine dining restaurant — at where else but 10 East Washington Street. There, ‘Chef George’ as the regular clientele know him, has been delighting South Atlanta diners for the past eighteen years with superbly prepared American-Continental and Eastern European cuisine.

Located next to a gas station, newbies’ initial apprehensions disappear as soon as they dine on the fresh seafood, pasta or classic rib eye steak dinners. It’s a popular meeting place on the way to Atlanta, according to Diana Psomas-Fonseco, who took over when her father semi-retired. It’s everything and anything you want to eat, including pillowsized apple turnovers created using Frank’s grandmother’s baklava recipe. HOURS: Open Daily  - 10 am. - 11:30 p.m.

The Historic Green Manor Restaurant 6400 Westbrook Ave., Union City • 770-964-4343 greenmanor.biz A Creative Loafing review once described the Green Manor as “Mary Mac’s on steroids” because the stately mansion’s 1910 setting and all-you-can-eat Southern-food buffet is on such a grander scale than midtown’s famous tea room. Located 10 minutes from the airport, it’s been a favored dining spot since 1990. The house has been maintained as originally built with later additions for the larger kitchen and banquet area. Customers are welcome to tour the grand home after dining, a bonus treat after gorging on the true Southern fare and Green Manor’s signature Peach Punch. Don’t miss the beveled stained glass windows on your tour.

Besides the bourbon, MnG’s Greet side offers square-jawed classics like the Manhattan and Old Fashioned. On the Meat side, there are slider platters, burgers (made of a proprietary blend of chuck, brisket and hanger steak), Angus beef hot dogs, salads, pulled pork and chicken platters, and all offered with a host of popular sides.

ike some wondrous cooking mercenary, Chef Wayne Shivers of The Cellar has finessed it all, from cooking in the galleys of commercial diving vessels to preparing meals in the tony settings of Vail’s ski resorts. Owner Linda Bridges-Kee is well-aware of the talent she’s secured, and has partnered with the 41-year-old chef to expand the downtown chophouse into a place to appeal to all diners. Shivers holds degrees from Georgia Southern University and Johnson and Wales Culinary University. He’s been cooking professionally since 1997, but says the real start of his career came with the Dolce Group, opening restaurants for them in Atlanta and Huntsville, Ala. His resume includes stints at Pano’s & Paul’s and the Ritz-Carlton in Buckhead. He’s well-versed in cooking anything from kangaroo to cooking kosher. He’ll be one you’ll find behind the line at The Cellar, doing most of the cooking. “I’m hands-on. I’m not a

What excites Shivers nowadays is The Cellar’s relocation to the former Firestone building, next to The Newnan-Times-Herald. Bridges-Kee has given him full reign and part ownership, which offers him an opportunity to expand the menu, possibly adding smaller steak entrees and tapas. At home, he enjoys rustic Italian dishes, but rarely has time during his 12-hour work days to eat anything other than a “gas station burrito and an oatmeal pie,” dispelling the biggest misconception about chefs. He admits a guilty pleasure is Little Debbie cakes. “Ninety-nine percent of people eat better than we do,” he says.
