My World I created this panel entitled The Planet Unknown because I’ve always had a passion to express fictional settings in our universe. The panel give off multiple interpretation on how to look at it. The hot air balloons in the sky are symbolic of freedom and exploration. As for the astronaut, it shows that this place doesn’t symbolize freedom. The meaning behind this futuristic planet is my impression that there is a planet somewhere in our universe that is so elegant and beautiful, yet wants to protect itself from us humans and our way of destruction here on earth. You see the balloons floating off in the top of the screen because some places are better left unknown.

The Planet Unknown Hope My hope is for everyone is to get outside their comfort zone, do something new, and explore the unknown landscape around us. This past summer I participated in a NOLS course where I went backpacking in the Adirondacks (New York) for 14 days with no cell phones, no electricity, just a small group of 11 people. It was here that I learned a lot about myself, who I am, and more surprisingly how beautiful our planet really is. In this panel I try to illustrate the beauty through exploration in balloons/parachuting, and a magnificent sunset casting a shadow over me and my favorite people, minions; all as I sit on top of the historic Hurricane Mountain, the highest peak in the Adirondacks.

My World Bloom, a song created by one of my favorite bands Radiohead, was the inspiration of my first free panel. This is one of my favorite songs of all time and I wanted to be able to express the song through image for others to see. The lyrics in the top left corner of the screen are where I got my ideas for the images I incorporated throughout the panel. The most difficult part of this piece was having a diver “dive into those eyes. I placed this scene in space because I feel that it expresses the mind in each and every one of us. I want to inspire you to dive out and explore the unknown and bloom into the person you were created to become.

Bloom Peace This was the most difficult panel I had to create because of the amount of time it took me to create. Every flag you see on this panel I had to individually download, switch file, add to panel and adjust size and location in order to achieve what I wanted. In the end the panel turned out great as I try to symbolize our worlds need to come together in order to create peace on our hectic planet. The hands, which can be yours, all must lend a hand to hold up our planet and help get one step closer to peace on planet earth.

Love

6

My grandfather was the most important person that I’ve ever had in my life. After he passed many years ago, when thinking of love he was the first to come to mind. My grandfather was my biggest inspiration, and I wish I could have all our memories back on film. The reason for the song Videotape by one of my favorite bands Radiohead, is because the song has an expression for love and need to have everything you lost back. The videotape is the only hard copy memories that I have left of my grandfather. I loved my grandfather more than anything in the world, and one of his favorite things to do with me was sit on his porch, smoke a cigar and look up into the trees and talk about anything and everything. Love you Papa.

Layers Recontruction

The first project of the year was a layers construction piece where we had an example file and we attempted to reconstruct that example with all the information and techniques we have learned within the first two weeks. Layer construction can be difficult but also fun. We have to also add effects to each image we made in a layer to try a replicate the example file. I found the basic shapes, square and triangle, to be much easier to reconstruct than the other shapes, Pac man and oval. Overall the layers reconstruction project showed me how much I have learned and accomplished in such a short period of time. I’m excited to continue using layers both with and without images. 7

Business Cards

The reason I decided to make a security company is something I do not know Zaiah is one of my nicknames so I decided instead of using my real name; change it up with something different. Two of my cards are less professional than the third and incorporate images off the Internet. The best card is the one made entirely from scratch forming a lock. Through many experiments in advanced features, I was able to create a realistic lock to help put the lock in lockdown for home security. All three cards have there own punch line to exchange the reader. Would you want to call Zaiahs Home Security? 9

CD Designs

For this project we had a variety of fictional artist to select from to decide to make both cover and CD faces for. My artist was Marco Messo, a Jazz/ Blues trompetist with a new album titles Out of the Blue. His only preferences were to be colorful and make the design have a “real jazzy” look. I decided on doing three different designs to help Messo chose from a varity of styles. The first design comes from the city of jazz- New Orealans. After incorperating filters and color overlay I was able to get the “real jazzy” look that Messo was looking forr. The other two designs incorperated the instrument that Messo was looking for, the trupet. Both of these designs are made “jazzy” with the incorperation of filters, color varity and a jazz muscian. Marco Messo is assumed talented, rising mucian and needs eye-catching CD designs to bring in new cutormers and become a better know jazz mucian. 11

City Logo

City Logo

For the logo design project I created a design for the town of Tilto. The town of Tilton was founded in 1869 by Charles E. Tilton who separated this small town fromwhat used to be called Samborton, NH to its own town on the other side of the river. I chose to incorporate two major symbols of Tilton history; the native flower [magnolia] and the famous Tilton arch. I made two separate designs, one with a more simple design of sizing reasons. The more detailed, drueched arch is made to be an enlarged version of the logo for signs, awtwrok etc. As for the simple design, it is made to be seen in a smaller version such as business cards. 13

Symmetry Design

For the symmetry project I decided to do an image of a young owl. For the black and white side I initially put the photo through a filter. I later went back to all the white sections you see and either cleaned them up or colored some in black to make an outline of the feathers of the owl. As for the color side, the image was more difficult to recreate. Through a vast selection of different furry texture types, I would select little areas to help mold a replica of the owls feathers. For his nose I used a chip and for his foot I used a skin type. The owl is almost perfectly symmetrical and can begin to look like the original image. 14

Poem Illustration The Road Not Taken By: Robert Frost Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. 15

PapaIt was his favorite spot in the world An aged red rocking chair With a large cup of coffee for drinking And a cigar on the edge of his lips The sun was setting, it was his favorite time of day He would just sit, thinking of what only he would know He knew he was close, close to the end So he took in his final moments with his chair and a child The child had just arrived, without a clue of what was to come Only happiness in his eyes to see the man that he loved He sat on his lap without a care in the world For the smell of his breath and cold evening breeze Although the moment was short, it was also their last The boy left happy having not knowing it was the last The man was left sitting, having just finished his drink Hoping that it wasn't the last they would ever meet Yet to this day the red chair still lies And each time the young man goes back No matter how old he has gotten or too cool he might think he is He still tears up thinking back to the day Back to the day in the chair with his Papa Back to the time when he was alive Alive and well with an abundant love for all Until the day that his heart had given it's all
