The Classic Range Concept
The Tile industry is a fashion industry. Our suppliers are constantly developing new designs and we are regularly visiting world leading tile manufacturers in our never ending search for fresh new tiles. As a family business, where tiles have been our passion for the past 25 years, we find it hard to say ‘no’ to hot new lines, and we are guilty of having an ever-increasing range. We do however have to regularly cull the range or we would never get the warehouse doors shut at the end of each day.
Each year we refresh our ‘Classic Range’ which is a collection of over 250 of our best selling tiles. We work hard to maintain high stock levels of these key lines in our central warehouse where we sit on over 200,000m2 of material at any point in time. We aim to give key customers the peace of mind that these tiles will be available come time to build, and if not we will likely have an arrival date for our next shipment of stock.
The Classic Range contains our most timeless and proven lines, catering for every budget and style preference. If you can’t find what you require in our Classic Range, there are many, many more tiles on display in our 13 showrooms or online at www.tiledepot.co.nz
Tile Variation
Variation you say? So all my tiles won’t look the same? Sometimes they will, sometimes they won’t. Each tile is given a rating from V1 through to V4 as shown in the below table. A V1 will have virtually the same appearance from tile to tile where as some V4’s can have hundreds of unique faces. This is a great selling feature allowing the designs to recreate the natural appearance of stone or timber. High variation product can make displaying the tiles in store difficult where we can only show a few tiles at a time. For this reason, we always suggest you view images online and get your tile delivery to site nice and early, dry lay 3-4m2, taking tiles from multiple boxes to ensure you are happy prior to installation.
Appearance
No difference among the tiles. Each piece is almost identical
Clearly distinguishable difference in texture and or pattern, with similar colours.
The number of colours on each piece will vary significantly from tile to tile. However the same colours will be found throughout the batch.

Slip Ratings
I need an antislip tile for my bathroom. That is a very common misconception and most “antislip” tiles are not suitable for internal use at all. They are generally designed for external applications where they can be hosed, swept and even water blasted clean. The only reference to antislip requirements in the NZ Building code is section D - Access-ways, (specifically D1.3.3) which is simply the main approach to the home.
Internal tiling for residential purposes comes down to personal preference and a bit of common sense. Think about the space and who will be using it? Will small children be splashing water out of the bath or will elderly people be using the wet area bathroom now or in the future?
Globally there are several different testing methods for tile slip resistance. After years of battling suppliers for a slip test suitable for the NZ market we recently invested in our own Pendulum testing machine. On each floor tile in this catalogue you will see a slip rating number. This is from a random batch test of one tile from a series and is to be used as an indication of the ‘risk of slipping’ based on the following table. For example, a slip rating of 36 falls into ‘X’ - moderate risk of slip.
So, for a Domestic situation where do I need a slip rating?
Access ways: Only the approach to the main entrance and not inside the house. A Pendulum test rating of 39 or higher is required.
Living areas, Bathrooms & Kitchens: Considered dry under normal circumstances. No slip rating is required.
Swimming pools surround: The immediate pool surround requires a Pendulum of 45 or higher.
External paths, patios, verandahs etc: No guidance given but we recommend Pendulum of 45 or higher.

Keep an eye out for ranges that carry the Lifemark certification. These ranges are hand picked and batch checked to ensure they achieve an ongoing slip rating of 40 or higher.
