NB + NFLD Challenge Week Pre-Trip Excursion

LEVEL I INFORMATION FORM

Level I Excursions are those which take students to familiar settings for daytime activities which expose students to risks typically encountered in everyday living or while at school and which involve local transportation either by walking, subway, city bus, school bus, taxi

Activity Description and Educational Rationale

On the way there

● 11:40am subway Union Station

● Lunch (can eat packed lunch OR buy lunch in Union Station food court)

● Walk 10 mins to Ripley’s Aquarium

On the way back

● 3:20pm return to Union station - students may make their own way home from their OR return to school

We will travel to the Aquarium to explore the marine exhibits where we will test the technology we will need on Challenge week in a fun and team-building manner We will practise our use of the camera/video and sound equipment, as well as our interview and collaboration skills with people visiting the aquarium

Students will have an opportunity to buy lunch at Union Station OR they can bring a packed lunch to eat in the food court

Please note that unless you provide adequate notice ahead of the trip indicating that your child cannot attend, you will be charged for the expenses incurred on your child's behalf for this trip

Special Considerations and What to Bring

Sun Protection: Where a trip involves your child being outside between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM, or the UV rating is predicted to be 3 or greater, you are required to provide your child with the following: sunscreen, hat and water bottle. Sunglasses that protect against UV-A and UV-B rays are also recommended

Students’ accounts will be charged approximately $10 +HST for entrance to the Aquarium

Students are asked to bring:

- TTC fare x2

- Their ICE journal and pen

- A camera, or mobile device with camera

- Appropriate footwear for walking

- packed lunch and/or money for purchasing a quick bite

Additional Information and/or Instructions for Students:

Students will be given independent time to take photos at each of the locations as per our Independent Time Protocol They will remain in small groups during this time within restricted boundaries, reviewed together as a group Students and trip leaders will maintain a direct line via mobile devices
