I
met a beautiful young lady at a party I was throwing at the Dina Collection in Beverly Hills, CA for the Stylist Handbook. She was attending as one of my celebrity guests, invited by Editor-at-Large, Doug Haley. I was very impressed by her class and candor for her age, she was the adorable Lexi Ainsworth. Since we met those three or so years ago I have styled her and spent time with her at events and at her home. I’ve watched her mature into an impressive and loving woman. It helps she also has a lovely family that I just adore! Around the end of April I received a message from Lexi, she was in need of styling help for her upcoming trip to la Festival de Cannes. I put together a Pinterest board and began emailing designers I had hoped to work with to create Lexi as a “fashion darling.” Once Lexi returned home from her European adventure I had one more adventure for her, asking her to star in the Stylist Handbook’s new seasonal Summer Featurette magazine and video. These new mini-magazines pack a lot of punch, our digital version has links directly from the magazine to social media, videos, blog stories and more. Our more affordable print version provides you with an on the spot high fashion magazine that is “travel size” and saves paper.

Her character arc included a very controversial teen abuse storyline that was the first of its kind in the shows history. Before that her first recurring role was that of Tillie on the WB’s Gilmore girls. Since then she has appeared in such TV shows as iZombie, Chosen, Cougar Town, Criminal Minds and MTV’s Teen Wolf. She has completed movies along side Vivica A. Fox, Eric Roberts, Emma Roberts, Aidan Quinn, Natasha Richardson, Johnny Pacar, Thomas Lennon, and Rose McGowan. She recently completed a movie called “A Girl Like Her,” a tale of a teen bullied by a former friend and classmate. This insightful film takes the subject to a realism level by using a hidden camera approach to capture the raw emotion of her characters dangerous experiences with her harasser. Lexi Ainsworth was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to a dentist father and a school teacher mother. Lexi began dancing on stage by age 6 with the local ballet company. Which led to an early career in theater, performing on stage in The Wizard of Oz and To Kill a Mockingbird. Beyond her resume as an actor and dancer, Lexi is the embodiment of a conscious young woman. She believes in eating organic, chemical-free beauty products, sustainable, fair-trade, and eco-friendly designers. She attends events that aim to create mindful and consciously aware topics. She is also a certified yoga teacher.

What is a celebrity stylist? A celebrity/fashion stylist is someone who pulls clothing and accessories for celebs/ models and styles them for red carpet events, photo shoots etc. How does a person become a celebrity stylist? For me, I took the “non-traditional” route. The traditional route being to go to a school with a focus on fashion/ styling, get an internship, work as an assistant and then start booking your own clients. I practiced law for almost 10 years before I realized I needed to follow my dreams in fashion and styling. I launched my website, hustled and networked, making a name for myself from the ground up. Where do you get the wardrobe for a celebrity? To get wardrobe I generally contact the PR division of the brand I would like to pull from or work with showrooms who will let me pull pieces for a shoot photo or celebrity. Why is it on loan? The pieces are on loan because the celeb/photo shoot is not purchasing the pieces. Rather they are “borrowing” them for the event/shoot. What happens if the client damages the wardrobe? I always have parties sign and agree to a “L.O.R” or a Letter Of Responsibility which protects the stylist and absolves the stylist of any responsibility if the clothing pulled gets damaged. What is the difference between styling a client for the red carpet versus a magazine spread/cover? There are a bunch of differences but primarily for a red carpet the dress has to fit perfect. On a shoot you can clip, pull etc as long as it’s not in the shot. How do you find new clients? Personally, all my work is based on referral. There are agencies however that will rep stylists and book them on gigs but they also take a percentage of the proceeds.
