“Welcome to the work of Coventry University Industrial Design students graduating in 2014. The students are graduating from our courses in Automotive and Transport Design and Product Design. Please take note of their skills in drawing, making, Computer Aided Design, and communication encapsulating issues such as social responsibility and sustainability in elegant and effective design solutions. The study of people, their needs and desires is at the core of this design, with an understanding of industry and its processes. The evident knowledge of the present and future world, its digital practices and social operations, demonstrates professionals who will be valuable and effective in the future.” Michael Goatman MCSD FRSA Head of Industrial Design “We are proud to present this year’s Product Design graduates to you. Supporting their transition from undergraduate students to versatile design professionals has given the course team a great deal of satisfaction. Our focus continues to be on thoughtful inclusive design through careful aesthetic, material and process choices and has culminated in a diverse mix of products. Our themes this year have included sustainability, the prevention of sports injuries, products which anticipate living in smaller spaces, and products to help educate. This year’s cohort have responded magnificently to global exposure and through increased international internship opportunities and working through an international network of alumni, students have already secured their first full time design job. It has been a pleasure to work with our graduating students this year and we anticipate that their new employers will feel the same way. Thank you for taking the time to visit us.” Course Director Product Design and Final Year Tutor “Every year there are increasing demands on our graduating design students. As well as balancing traditional creative, commercial, environmental and human factors in their practice, they must also engage with rapidly evolving digital processes and platforms, changes in design thinking, and shifts in the way that both ‘design’ and ‘designers’ are perceived by society. This year’s cohort has embraced these challenges with gusto. Their projects are both well considered and executed - thinking design. They leave with portfolios that will open doors to them in industries across sectors, across the world. I wish them every success in the coming years.”

Tom Nelson, Lecturer in Product Design 1

“Working with 2014 Product Design students for the first time has been and a fascinating and very rewarding experience. Seeing them learn, adapt and progress from research, through concepts to interesting final outcomes, has demonstrated to me how thoughtful this generation of designers are.”
