BRU T RESERVE

' White Foil ’

Served at the Royal Wedding Reception of Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle May 2018 Very fine bead; flowery, delicately toasty aroma with fruit and complexity; creamy, beautifully balanced with a dry, harmonious finish. At POL ROGER, confidence and intense family pride come from OVER 160 YEARS OF PRODUCING EXQUISITE CHAMPAGNE. Founded in 1849, this is one of a few grande marque champagne houses still family owned and operated. More than half the vineyards are estate-owned. All grapes vinified at Pol Roger originate from vineyards in premier or grand cru villages. Like hand-crafted jewels during the elaboration of each cuvee, each lot is kept separate, by village, vineyard, grower and grape variety. Pol Roger is one of the last producers to do riddling by hand. In effect, each bottle of cuvee champagne is hand-made. Pol Roger champagnes are the marriage of power and elegance.

WEDDING 101

YOU’RE ENGAGED Now What? By Katherine Whitehead

Congratulations, you’re engaged! The moment you’ve been waiting for has finally happened - you’ve got the ring, the man, and the promise of a lifetime. While you take some time to enjoy those post-engagement feels, it’s time to get to work because, believe it or not, these next few weeks and months following the proposal are going to fly by. Now that you’re on your way to the altar, you may not know where to begin. There’s no set strategy to follow when planning a wedding, however, we’ve created the ultimate checklist of the first steps and must-do’s to begin your big adventure. TELL YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS

The last place your family should hear about your engagement is on social media. Make sure you give your parents a call to tell them the good news. Chances are they already knew it was coming and have been waiting on you to let them know. When it comes to your best friends, snapping a ring selfie with your fiance is one of the most fun ways to do it, and it’ll add for a great surprise in their feed!

CELEBRATE

Being engaged is totally worth toasting! Grab the people closest to you and head out for a celebratory evening of food and drinks. If you’re not up for a group night, head out with your man for a romantic date night to revel in your upcoming nuptials.

GET YOUR RING INSURED

Getting your ring insured may not be the most exciting thing on your list, but trust us – it’s totally worth it and will come in handy should anything happen to your ring. Whether your rings are $500 or $5,000, an insurance policy can make sure that you can replace it later without worry, plus - they are usually inexpensive too!

RESEARCH WEDDING VENUES

It’s never too early to start thinking about where you want to get married. Whether it’s in a church, a country club, barn or on a tropical island - you’ll want to get a head start on venue selection so you can book your ideal date.

PICK A DATE

Images by Photography by Janae

T | W · 18

Picking a wedding date may not be as simple as you realize. On top of deciding on a date that works best for both you and your spouse’s families, it’s also important to take

Images by Photography by Janae

into account what dates are available at your venue. If you’re planning on getting hitched during a popular time of the year, you’ll want to book your date far in advance.

DETERMINE YOUR GUEST LIST

It’s important to be on the same page about what kind of wedding you and your spouse are expecting. Are you going big or keeping it small and intimate? How many people are you planning on attending? If your family is taking care of the costs, try consulting them as to what they think is best.

BUDGET

As much as we don’t like to talk about it, budgeting counts when it comes to tying the knot! Discuss with your family and spouse how much you are going to set aside for your vows and come up with a plan to prepare for how you will save money as your wedding date approaches. If you’re unsure of where to start try speaking with a financial advisor who can help you figure out all of the details.

ATTEND A BRIDAL SHOW

One of the most important things you can do when it comes to wedding planning is attend a bridal show. These events will help you find inspiration for your big day. Instead of reading about vendors online, you’ll be able to meet them in person and even get to see and sample some of their work. If you like a vendor, you can book a meeting with them, or if you feel ready, book them for your wedding at the show!

BUILD A WEDDING WEBSITE

Building a website can be one of the details that will make your wedding preparation go smoother. Look into costs and what platform you want to use before commiting. Once you’ve decided you can add any details you would like your visitors to know - including a count down to the wedding and directions.

START A WEDDING-ONLY EMAIL

Getting a wedding specific email may seem like a small detail, but it can ultimately make a big difference! Wedding emails will help keep your planning more organized, and allow greater accessibility when it comes to accessing important messages, documents and other details of your big day.

CREATE A REGISTRY

Getting married is one of the biggest milestones of your life, and since you’re going to be living together as a couple, you’ll want to think about what items you’ll need in the future. Sign up for a registry at some of your favorite places and have fun with your spouse adding things for your home. This will be a great way for your attendees to know what you want and need for gifts.

CHOOSE THE BRIDAL PARTY

Before you start asking your friends the big question, you’ll want to make a list of who you want included in your bridal party. How many bridesmaids do you want? Will you have a maid of honor? Don’t forget your spouse too! Will he want groomsmen and a best man?

The Perfect Setting for your Elegant Wedding

10 Tips for Creating Your

WEDDING WEBSITE By Chelsey Gatlin

1. CARRY ON THE THEME

This is a wonderful opportunity to expand the theme of your wedding and give your guests a little sneak peak into the celebrations!

2. DON’T INCLUDE EVENTS NOT EVERYONE IS PRIVY TO Such as your bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner, etc. Your guests are excited to be there for you, so there isn’t a need to include events they may not be invited to.

6. DON’T RELY ON GUESTS TO RSVP ONLINE

Some guests might RSVP online, however, a majority probably won’t, especially if they are an older crowd. It’s better to be safe than sorry and stick with the good ol’ formal paper RSVPs.

7. GIVE THEM THE DETAILS

Think of this as the who, what, and where section. Be sure to include a basic timeline, the dress code, and any pertinent info from the venue like parking.

3. PERSONALIZE IT

This is your chance to brag about your proposal or how we met story! Even if everyone’s heard it already, they are excited about the wedding and on your website to learn more about celebrating you! So, give them what they want — that being a sweet love story!

4. KEEP IT SIMPLE

However, don’t have them reading a novel either. Guests do want to read all about your relationship, your wedding party, and the info, but too much will bog them down. Keep it short and sweet as much as you can. You can run a little longer in your “About Us” section, but when introducing your wedding party stick to a couple of quick facts.

5. INCLUDE DIRECTIONS & TRAVEL

For any destination wedding or when your guest list has a lot of out of towners, you need to include some details on where to go and how to get there! Nothing is worse than being in a new city for an event, and not having a clue about where you’re going! Relieve some of the stress for your out of town guests by being a local travel guide via your wedding website. Include directions, whether that is step by step or a Google map link set straight to your venue, and any necessary travel info such as road closures or busy traffic times. Don’t forget to add some cool things they can check out and do while in town, too!

8. INCLUDE SOCIAL MEDIA

This is a great chance to include your wedding hashtag! Or let your guests know that your ceremony is unplugged.

9. CREATE A WEDDING EMAIL FOR ALL QUESTIONS TO BE DIRECTED TO This is a must when wedding planning in general! However, creating a wedding email that is included on your website is great for when you don’t want your personal inbox full from wedding questions!

10. SHOW OFF THOSE BEAUTIFUL ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS!

You both look great, so show them off! This is the perfect place to relieve your social media feed from an influx of engagement photos, and be able to share them with your closest loved ones!

WEDDING 101

THE ART of SPENDING By Chelsey Gatlin One of the hardest parts of wedding planning is figuring out what is absolutely necessary and what is just nice to have. We totally get it — that’s us every single time we shop at Target, too! We’ve narrowed down our top tips on what to absolutely splurge on and what not to splurge hopefully helping ease the decision process!

TO SPLURGE

NOT TO SPLURGE

I would recommend only splurging on what is at utmost importance to you and your spouse-to-be whether that’s your venue, photographer, or simply great food. Start by making a list of your 3 must-have wedding items, and have your S.O. do the same! Compare the lists, and talk about why it’s important for you to have and how comfortable you are spending more money on it. We all like to save money here and there, so be reasonable on your max limit. Don’t forget to also be open to hearing your partner out on their choices — even if it’s an awful 80’s rock cover band!

When it’s the most important day of your life, everything seems worth it. It’s hard to cut something out of that ideal day that you’ve been imagining in your head for so long. However, the day is about one thing: you and your partner. The extras, while they’re beautiful and fun, often end up costing more than planned and sometimes aren’t even used. Consider saving on things that might only be used for a small segment of your wedding like your programs, customized cocktail napkins for happy hour, or even your guest favors. Cutting out smaller items here and there can help you save in the long run and use that cash for other things that you really care about! Oftentimes your guests won’t even notice they weren’t there!

“A unique tradition that Taylor and I incorporated in our ceremony was a family blessing. We strongly believed our wedding was also a celebration of family. 10 MUST-DOS FOR A STRESS-FREE WEDDING By Katherine Whitehead

T | W · 42

WEDDING 101 Let’s get real - we all want that fairytale wedding. For most of us that means celebrating our love with those closest to us and kissing our sweetheart at the altar. Although the image may seem picture-perfect, the process can oftentimes get overwhelming. Whether your big day is weeks, months, or a year away, it’s important to keep in mind what things can make or break your big day. Here are ten things to keep your race to the finish line smooth and stress-free.

PROVIDE A DETAILED DESCRIPTION When it comes to your wedding invitations, it’s important to be as detailed as possible. While you may be soaking up your wedding day bliss, guests can get left in the background. There’s nothing worse than having your guests arrive too early or late because they couldn’t find the location of your big day. Even worse is to have them standing around waiting for the ceremony and reception to start. Try to provide a detailed itinerary of how the day will go so you don’t leave your friends and family out of the loop. This will help make your big day easy to navigate for local and out-of-town guests!

BE REALISTIC ABOUT YOUR ATTENDEE NUMBER We’ve all heard the stats that 10 percent of people you invite to your wedding won’t be able to come - and up to 20 percent for a destination wedding. While those numbers seem likely, there’s no certainty that it will be the case for your big day. Many of us will be tempted to over invite and may end up with either too many or too little guests. Try to keep your guest list within the venue capacity and be sure to check in with guests as the date approaches to get an estimate of what to expect.

MAKE PLANS AFTER SETTING A BUDGET It may not be romantic to think about, but setting a budget is one of the most vital parts of wedding preparation. Some couples make the mistake of booking without having the money conversation. Before you get started making plans on where and when, be sure you have a set budget with some extra wiggle room for any unexpected costs that may come down the road.

DON’T BUY YOUR DRESS FIRST Don’t make the mistake of booking a rustic barn wedding after you’ve purchased a ballgown dress. While it may be tempting to immediately purchase a dress after the engagement - it can be tricky to match your frock to the location of your big day. Make sure you have either booked or chosen a venue so you have a general idea of what to look for when you go dress shopping.

DO A HAIR AND MAKEUP TRIAL One of the best ways to save some time on your wedding day is to book a hair and makeup trial with the person who is going to do it the day of, or at a salon that has experience in the bridal world. This will help nail down what you do and don’t like so you don’t end up feeling indecisive about your day of look.

MAKE A RAIN PLAN If you’re planning on having an outdoor wedding, it is vital to have a rain plan. Even if the forecast looks bright, you can never be certain about what may happen the day of. Talk to your venue about what options there are should unexpected weather occur, and if there can be a backup if things get too washed out.

HIRE A VIDEOGRAPHER Don’t let one of your budget regrets be not hiring a videographer. When it comes to nixing the unnecessaries this often gets taken off the list. It may not seem necessary to book someone to film your wedding, but we guarantee that it will be worth it in the end. Videographers can capture your big day in intimate detail, and even get a few things you didn’t even know happened on camera. Maybe it’s your grandparents reaction to seeing you walk down the aisle, or maybe it’s your spouse as he waits for you to walk into the ceremony. Having your day filmed is a great way to ensure your memories are captured forever and not on your friend’s cell phones.

TIME YOUR VOWS Try to schedule your vows around what time is good for photos. This usually means late in the evening during nature’s ‘golden hour’ just before the sun sets. Spending time with your photographer planning what time of day will make for the best shots and create a photo timeline so you know when to pause to get those photos your friends will be falling head over heels for.

STEP OUTSIDE YOUR COMFORT ZONE It’s common for couples to be set on a specific or set of traditions for their wedding. While that does work for some people, don’t be afraid to try something new and different. Personalizing your wedding day tradition doesn’t mean you gave to make major changes either. If you’re getting married in the same location as your parents or are dancing to that song that’s been passed down for generations, try adding your own twist on it to make it your own.

ASK FOR HELP Don’t forget, your wedding is your time to shine, not to feel overwhelmed with responsibilities. If things are getting too crazy ask your family and friends for help. Working with a wedding planner is a great way to take off some of the extra baggage, while still being able to have a say into what is going to make your day special.

WEDDING 101

SPENDING ON A BUDGET

HOW TO CREATE A SUCCESSFUL BUDGET FOR YOUR WEDDING By Chelsey Gatlin

The dreaded budget! One of the top complaints we hear from engaged couples is dealing with their budget. Here are our top 7 tips for navigating the financial seas of wedding planning!

MAKE IT SIMPLE

Budgets don’t have to be hard, but they can definitely be intimidating at first. Break it down until it feels manageable, and then take it pieceby-piece.

BE ACCOUNTABLE

BE REALISTIC

We all love Pinterest weddings, but some of those ideas are worth thousands of dollars! Be realistic in your price ideas to avoid heartbreak later on.

ANY HELP?

Know who all is contributing and how much they are planning to add early on if it is going to play a major factor in your budget or booking your vendors.

Have a physical or e-version of a budget sheet and actively mark your expenses and prices. It will help you keep a good number in your head of where you stand while planning, and make sure to not overspend and blow your budget!

SAVE WHERE YOU CAN

START WITH YOUR MUST-HAVES

Sometimes certain costs are hidden until you get the final bill, and then you see that you’ve gone way over budget. Keep these in mind when calculating your initial budget plan and in your meetings with potential vendors: tips, gifts, service charges, overbooking charges, and seasonal fees.

Find real prices in your area and include them at the top of your budget, so you’ll know the important things are accounted for right out of the bat.

T | W · 46

If you’re getting to a point where your budget is running a little low, consider cutting out unnecessary expenses or DIY them if you can!

DON’T FORGET THE SNEAKY EXPENSES

Square or over-sized envelopes require extra postage, as well as invitations with multiple pieces. Always mail an invitation to yourself, it’s exciting to receive!! Take invitations to the post office and ask to have the envelopes hand stamped, so the ink is not smeared.

How to Write a

GRACIOUS THANK YOU NOTE By Katherine Whitehead

In the age of technology, many of us underestimate the power of a handwritten letter. Though it may be easier to send a text or even say it in person, pulling out that old pen and stationary is one of the most thoughtful ways to show someone you care. It may seem a little daunting to perfect that penmanship again, but trust us, when you follow these tips, your wedding guests will be falling head over heels with your graciousness!

DO’S

Use Stationery: Now is not the time to use the leftover notebook paper from your college days. You don’t have to splurge on expensive stationery from a paper store, but you should definitely try to choose embossed cards with matching envelopes. Handwrite: A handwritten thank you is the best way to go when it comes to the look of your notes. Taking the time to carefully write a letter goes much further than a printed document ever could because it shows that it is more sincere and thoughtful. Personalize: When writing the notes be sure to personalize it for each receiver. The last thing you want to do is send a “fill in the blank” message to everyone and have it come back to you later. Think of the way you would talk to the family member or friend in person,

T | W · 62

and make it feel conversational to them, letting your own personality shine through. Additionally, instead of saying “thank you for x gift”, let them know how you plan on using the item. For example, if a friend gives you a cooking set, say something like, “My husband and I loved the cookware. We can’t wait to use it for the family dinner next week!” Send it: A general rule of thumb is to try to mail your thank you notes within three months. However, remember that getting them done is the most important thing, so if you’re already past the three month mark, don’t worry! It’s always better to send them than not. It’s best to adhere to the “One Year Rule”. This means that if the event happened within the year, it’s still okay to send a letter of thanks.

DON’TS

Ramble: Yes, you may be excited to officially be married and you may have had an amazing honeymoon that you want to tell the world about, but don’t go on and on about it in the note. It’s usually best to keep thank you notes brief. If you want to discuss with that person further, save it for a phone call or in person. Refer to Money: If someone gifted money, it’s important to never acknowledge the specific amount in the note. Although you may be raving about their generosity, they don’t want to be called out for the dollars they spent for you. Thank you notes relating to monetary gifts are best kept general and straight to the point. It is okay, however, to acknowledge the gift and mention that you plan on putting it to good use - without going into specifics.

Assume: It can be easy to think that an in-person thank you is enough. Even if you did say thank you to people at your reception, sending a thank you note is the least you can do for people who came out to your wedding and were kind enough to provide a gift. It is important to remember as well that even if someone came and did not give anything they should still receive a note for their time spent attending your wedding. Become Overwhelmed: We get it – writing thank you notes can be a lengthy process, especially if you have a large amount of guests on your big day. If you feel like it’s becoming too much, step back, relax and breathe. Ask your spouse to join in so it can be something you can do together as a couple, because let’s not forget - the gift was for both of you! the bride doesn’t have to be the only one that sends thank you’s!

BEAUTY

FEEL YOUR BEST IN THE DRESS 15 TIPS FOR A HEALTHY MIND, BODY AND SPIRIT by Katherine Whitehead

Mind MEDITATE One of the best ways to improve your state of mind and boost your mood is to practice daily meditation. Whether it’s three minutes or thirty minutes, meditation is not only relaxing, but it also improves memory function, attention, immune system functions, improves sleep and helps your creative side too. PRACTICE YOGA Yoga is a great practice to add to your daily routine because it works wonders for your overall health and wellbeing. It helps you build strength, improve coordination and flexibility while calming your mind and reducing interior and exterior stress. The best part is, you can sign up for a yoga class or try at home. GET OUTDOORS Preparing for a wedding doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors! Try going outside daily for some fresh air and a brisk walk. If you’d

rather have company, arrange a meeting with your wedding planner or one or two from your bridal party at a nearby park or hiking trail. Being outside will definitely get your creative juices flowing and may even provide inspiration for your wedding day style. DETOX Try a week long detox from something that is no longer serving you. This could mean staying away from sugars and starches, taking a break from your phone, or spending some time alone to rest and recover. SPEAK TO SOMEONE A great way to help cleanse your mind is to talk to someone about what you’re going through. Wedding planning may seem like a huge task, but you are not alone! Have an open conversation about how you feel with close friends, family or a therapist.

BEAUTY

Spirit FUEL YOUR PASSION Planning for a wedding can be a very daunting and overwhelming task, and can leave many brides forgetting to take care of themselves. Try to set aside time everyday to do what makes you happy. Don’t forget how great it feels to do what you love. Maybe that means writing, traveling, swimming or even rock climbing. Feel your ambition and let it drive you.

Body EXERCISE Try to get at least 15 to 30 minutes of moderate exercise a day. Set a time for yourself to go on a walk or hit the gym a few times a week. If you live close to work try riding your bike to get there. Exercise is important for a healthy heart, stamina and will make you feel good, too! PLAN YOUR MEALS Plan your meals ahead of time so you don’t get caught having to decide on the spot what you’re going to eat. This could lead to making unhealthy choices or getting caught in a drive-thru. When you know what you’re going to eat, you can be sure to include healthy items so you won’t give into cravings. EAT MORE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES Add more plant-based foods and fruits to your meals to help prevent disease. They are loaded with vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants, which protect against things such as heart disease and cancer. A general

T | W · 68

rule of thumb is between 1-1/2 cups of fruit and between 2 to 2 1/2 cups of vegetables per day. INCLUDE A PROTEIN Don’t forget to eat your protein! It can increase muscle mass and strength, and also helps keep your bones strong while reducing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures. Protein also helps reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes and chronic kidney disease. One of the coolest things about protein is that it comes in many different forms, from meat and beans to eggs and oats. AVOID SUGAR-FILLED DRINKS In order to have a healthy body, try eliminating sugar-filled drinks from your food routine. Substituting water for soft drinks will leave you feeling much better and will give you tons of extra energy! Keep yourself hydrated by drinking and refilling your water bottle daily.

READ AND LEARN Take time to open your mind to new information, possibilities and interests. Spend a day with a new book, sign up for a non-credit course or watch an interesting film to get your mind moving. BE GRATEFUL Keep a journal that you write in each day. Either when you wake up or before bed, write about what you are grateful for, like friends, family, pets and interesting things in your life. Try keeping a special page for your partner, and trade compliments together. SLOW DOWN During this hectic time of your love story, make sure you take time to breathe. Slow down, step back and think about your surroundings. Appreciate all that is and all that is coming in your future together. LAUGH OFTEN Don’t be afraid to laugh at yourself! It may seem silly, but laughter is truly the best medicine. Laugh at those quirks you and your spouse have and let yourself be happy.

Wedding Day Hair DOS & DON’TS By Katherine Whitehead

Kaitlyn Stoddard Photography

Is there anything more annoying than having a seriously bad hair day? Makeup faux pas can often be fixed with ease, but taming flyaway-prone, frizzy hair is a totally different story. Taking on one of the most important days of your life means you have to have the perfect hair to match, and with our tips, you’ll be falling head over heels for your perfect wedding day do!

T | W · 72

Do: HAVE A HAIR TRIAL Before your big day, schedule an appointment with your stylist to go over 3 to 4 potential hairstyles for your wedding day. Make sure you bring photos of styles you like and any headpieces or accents you want to add to your look. This should happen at least 4 to 6 weeks before your wedding. SPEAK UP Show your stylist photos of your wedding inspiration, the reception area and photos of your dress so they can get a good idea of what style will complement your bridal aesthetic. You’re the only one that knows what you truly want, so be sure to say something if you don’t feel like something is working or needs to be improved.

Pro Tip: Take pictures of each hairstyle from different angles. Your wedding photos will be taken from every angle (even your bad side), so doing this will give not only give you a preview of what it will look like on the big day, but will also make it easier to decide on one later!

LISTEN TO OTHERS One of the last things you want to be is a bridezilla. Even if you are sure of what style you are looking for, try to be open to suggestions from both your stylist and bridal party. Remember to be open-minded. Your stylist has likely done hundreds of weddings and if you give them the freedom to expand on your idea, you may be able to reach a place where you find a style you love. Although you may be set on an elegant chignon, your hair trial is a chance to experiment and try looks you may not have been interested in before. Let those around you suggest styles for you to try and you never know - you may be surprised!

Don’t: MAKE ANY MAJOR HAIR CHANGES One of the worst mistakes a bride can make is making a major hair change in the weeks leading up to the wedding. While it may be tempting to dye your hair red, try highlights, or get those bangs you’ve been wanting, it may not look as great as you thought it would on your big day. There’s nothing worse than walking down the aisle with a haircut you don’t like so that’s why it’s important to let any new style sit for at least 3 to 4 weeks.

HAVE UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS Results will not always be the same as you may have imagined. Because everyone has different hair length, texture and density, not everyone can look exactly the person in the photo. Get to know your hair and embrace what works best for you instead of an imagined version of how your hair should be.

Kaitlyn Stoddard Photography

ASSUME THE LANGUAGE OF HAIR Even though you may understand what a “bun” is, the term may have multiple different meanings depending on what stylist you go to. Try to brush up on wedding hair terminology such as a top knot, dutch braid and french twist. This will save you from any added frustration on your big day.

“Both sets of our parents eloped in the 1960s. Given we were remarrying, we decided to eschew the traditional and go with what worked for our parents, keeping our elopement very personal, private and secret until we announced it to family and friends.

6 Tips for Planning the

PERFECT ELOPEMENT By Katherine Whitehead

Benjaminrobyn Jespersen on Unsplash

Let’s face it - planning a wedding can be a stressful, time-consuming and overwhelming process. Whether you’re celebrating your love with a couple hundred of your extended friends and family or going for a smaller, more intimate ceremony, tying the knot means months of planning, researching and organizing even the tiniest of details. With all of the hoopla surrounding it, some couples are taking to the traditions of old and sealing their story with an elopement. Deciding to elope, however, isn’t how it used to be. Long gone is the idea of two lovebirds running away to Vegas and coming back with a big secret (although that would be pretty cool). Unlike formal weddings, today’s elopements have turned into small, intimate ceremonies with your closest pals, and the best part is - they can be done in a smaller time frame and within a limited budget, all without sacrificing any of your wedding day must-haves.

99 · ThePinkBride.com

PICK A LOCATION WITH MEANING When deciding where to tie the knot, choose a place that has special meaning to you and your spouse. This might mean the place where you met, had your first date, or at the church where your grandparents got married. Create a space that is unique to your love and make it yours.

Benjaminrobyn Jespersen on Unsplash

ALL-INCLUSIVE PACKAGES Since one of your goals of getting eloped is to keep your spending to a minimum, try booking a venue that offers all-inclusive packages. Some venues may even offer elopement deals for couples who would rather focus on their vows than the logistics. Look for a package that incorporates vendor services, including photography, flowers and the wedding cake.

T | W ¡ 100

Jacalyn Beales on Unsplash

SPLURGE ON WHAT’S IMPORTANT Even if your elopement means you’re spending less money, don’t forget that it’s okay to leave a little room to spend more on what matters to you the most. It may be a good idea to spend a few more bucks on hiring a hair and makeup team to pamper you and make you look your best on your big day or a professional caterer to coordinate food preparation.

MAKE IT YOURS If your going for a smaller ceremony, be sure that you personalize it to your tastes, feelings and personal history. For example, if you tie the knot in a small ceremony in the woods, get creative with the decorations. Try working with a decorator to come up with a fun way to incorporate what makes you feel special. This may mean showcasing special photos or symbolic floral arrangements.

101 · ThePinkBride.com

GIVE ATTENTION TO DETAIL A smaller number of guests gives you the chance to do a little extra preparation for your ceremony and reception. If you’re opting for a sit down meal after the vows, think of it as a family get together. Because you will be focusing on the intimacy of your big day, make notice of small details such as decor and place settings.

T | W · 102

Thomas AE on Unsplash

KEEP IT INTIMATE If you’re choosing to have guests at your elopement, limit it to those who are closest to you. Elopements are known for being smaller and more private ceremonies, meant to be shared with people who have played an important role in your life.

I had a crush on him and thought he was so cute so I asked him to be my boyfriend and he turned me down. We didn’t cross paths again until we were 20 years old and from then on it was like it was always meant to be.” 111 · ThePinkBride.com

“When I was young I loved Maggie Sottero dresses and would always fantasize about having one. Before my dress appointment I had a few designers and dresses picked out but then I saw this specific dress in a magazine and ironically it was Maggie Sottero. It was the first dress I saw when I walked into the store and it was the first one I tried on. ”

Pop, Fizz, Clink TIPS FOR CRAFTING YOUR SIGNATURE COCKTAILS By Katherine Whitehead One of our favorite ways to make the day even more special and memorable to your family and friends is to craft your own signature cocktail. With a little pop, clink and fizz, these tips will have you ready to say cheers to your next great adventure!

What do you drink now?

Come up with a list of drinks you enjoy, including a type and brand. Try asking yourself what flavors you are interested in as well. Do you prefer strong, sour or sweet?

What is your love story?

One of the most dreamy ways to craft your cocktail is to tell the story of your love through it. Where did you meet your significant other? If you met in an area that is famous for a certain type of drink you may want to consider using it. If you’re from Tennessee you’re probably familiar with Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey, while if you hail from Alabama you might prefer gin.

When are you getting married?

Before you decide on a cocktail, you should consider your wedding date. Save the cold drinks for the summer months! Instead of ordering up a batch of daiquiris in December, try having a spiked cocoa or eggnog with rum.

What is your wedding theme?

Consider the menu, venue and style of your ceremony and reception. Couples getting married in a barn may want a whiskey over ice in a mason jar, while those getting married in a museum or theatre may want a moscow mule in a copper mug. Here are some suggestions to get you started!

COCKTAILS Negroni Bellini Mint Julep Martini Cosmopolitan Gin and Tonic Bloody Mary Sazerac French 75 Mai Thai Margarita Pina Colada Daiquiri El Presidente Moscow Mule B-52

ABC’S OF WEDDING VENUES By Kendall Calkins

With so many options to choose from, finding the perfect wedding venue can be tough. Never fear! We are here to give you the ABC’s of wedding venues to help you find your perfect match.

A: ALL-INCLUSIVES All-Inclusive wedding venues are just that: All. inclusive. Often times they can include things like your catering, flowers, decor, linens, and more - all in one price! Exactly what is included can vary by venue so make sure you ask what is included and if there are any upgrades that will cost extra. B: BE PREPARED Do your homework! It is important to research venue choices before scheduling a tour. Try to have your basic wedding information narrowed down: how many guests you will have, if you want different venues for your reception and ceremony, how much you would like to spend, etc.

Waldorf Photograhic Art

C: CONSIDER INSURANCE Wedding insurance may be the last thing on your mind when searching for your dream venue, but it is something to consider. Check with your potential venue to see if you will need to take out any extra insurance policies. Wedding insurance can be found at most insurance agencies and can cover everything, not just your venue. It is always better to be prepared.

T | W · 134

D: DESTINATION DREAMS Looking to turn your wedding into a fabulous long weekend filled with family and friends? A destination wedding may be just what you need. If celebrating your love in an exotic place is something you envision for your special day, consider hiring destination planner to help you find your dream venue.

E: ECLECTIC VENUES As weddings are becoming ever more unique, so are the venues they are hosted at! From fairy gardens to urban-chic city rooftops, there is a venue to fit every couple’s style. If you aren’t in love with traditional venues, going with something more eclectic may just be the perfect fit for you. The wow factor of the built-in decor at an art gallery, museum, and zoo just can’t be beat! F: FOODIE FEELINGS If you and your fiance are self-declared foodies with plans of bringing in catering from your favorite gastro pub or several of your favorite food trucks to give your guests a unique dining experience, make sure to ask your venue if this can be done before you book. If you fall in love with a venue that requires you use their inhouse catering, never fear. Some chef’s will prepare recipes you provide so your wedding can still have the decadent dining experience of your dreams. G: GETTING READY When searching for your dream wedding venue, it is important to check out the bridal and groom suite. It may be easy to think of this space as insignificant, but you will be spending the bulk of your wedding day getting ready and hanging out in your suites with your wedding party. Make sure the suite is a place you can see yourself comfortably getting ready for your big day! H: HOLD OFF ON CHOOSING A THEME While it may be tempting to pick out a theme for your big day right away, try to hold off until you have your venue locked down. Fitting a theme to your venue will be much easier than fitting a venue to your theme. It is also important to remember that with the right planner any space can be transformed. Who says your bohemian wedding dreams can’t come to life in eclectic ballroom? I: INSIDER INSIGHTS There are so many venues to choose from! If you don’t know where to start, ask people you know if they have any recommendations. You can also search popular wedding professional sites for a lengthy list of reviews. Getting a wide range of reviews will help you get a better idea of what your wedding day will really be like. J: JUST IN CASE IT RAINS Even if you have crossed your fingers for nothing but clear skies and sunshine, mother nature may not corporate. It is important to talk with your venue coordinator about a contingency plan in the unlikely event that it rains. Something as simple as a tent rental on standby or another indoor location on site can save you lots of stress later on. K: KEEP YOUR GUEST COUNT IN MIND Make sure you have a realistic estimate of your guest count before starting your venue search. Evey venue has occupant limitations and you don’t want to fall in love with something that can’t fit all of your guests. L: LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! Location can play a key role in finding your dream wedding venue. Consider whether you will be providing your guests with transportation. If you are having your ceremony and reception at separate locations, how far will your guests have to travel? Will you be having a large number of out of town guests? If so, you will want to make sure your venue is in close proximity to hotel accommodations. Transportation can become a large wedding budget item if you are shuttling your guests a significant distance.

Ceremony Location · WindRiver Photographer · Zamana Lifestyles Photography

M: MANAGE EXPECTATIONS It is important to know exactly what you can and cannot afford before you schedule any venue tours. The last thing you want to do is fall in love with a venue you can’t have. Being flexible is key! Try researching what the going rate in your area. This way, you will know exactly what to expect from your potential venues. N: NEGOTIATION BEST PRACTICES It is natural to want to feel like you are getting a good deal when booking your wedding venue. There is always room for negotiation, however, be careful not to insult the venue representative. Remember that venues put a lot of time and money into bringing your perfect wedding day to life. If you are looking for some wiggle room at an allinclusive venue, try suggesting substitutions rather than asking for price cuts to the bottom line. O: OUTDOOR OPPORTUNITIES If natures natural beauty inspires you, an outdoor venue may be perfect for your wedding. From beaches to gardens, the options are endless when it comes to getting married at an outdoor venue. Dress up an already lovely garden for a formal wedding or let nature take center stage as your decor for a more casual ceremony on the beach. Either way, your day is sure to be breathtaking at an outdoor venue. P: PICKING YOUR DATE The more flexible you are willing to be, the more likely your dream wedding venue will be available. If you are attached to a specific date, be aware that you may have to compromise on the location of your wedding.

Q: QUOTES AND CONTRACTS Read the fine print before you sign on the dotted line! Finding your dream wedding venue is an exciting time, but it is important to know and understand all of the nitty gritty details before you sign your contract. Make yourself aware of the “scope of services” and any additional charges that could be added to your original quote so there are no surprises. R: RESTRICTIONS It is very important to fully understand any restrictions your venue may have. Some venues have restrictions on the amount of DIY decor you can bring, while others may not serve alcohol. Having a clear understanding of what you can and cannot do at your venue will help ensure smooth sailing through the rest of your wedding planning process. S: STAY TRUE TO YOUR STYLE Your wedding should and will be uniquely you. Remember to look at venues that are both aesthetically pleasing and and make you feel comfortable. The venue you choose, like all aspects of your wedding, should be a reflection of your style. If you consider yourselves to be modern, try looking at some art galleries and museums. On the other hand, if you consider yourselves to be classic and traditional, a ballroom or country club may just be the perfect fit. T: THINK ABOUT FLOW This may seem like a no brainer, but remember to envision your space in sections. There should be spaces for your guests to dance, eat, and mingle. If you cannot envision all of these areas in your space, your reception may feel cramped. Columns and nonremovable decor are also things to take note of. Could any of these hinder your guests’ view, or do they enhance the space by providing a clear division of the space?

U: UNDERSTANDING ONSITE COORDINATORS Many venues provide onsite coordinators. It is important to understand that this is not a full-fledged wedding planner. Venue coordinators are available to help you coordinate different aspects of your wedding that will happen on the property. If you are looking for someone to help you with picking out your other wedding professionals and bring your wedding vision to life, you may need to hire a full service wedding planner. V: VIEWS It is all about the view! When searching for your wedding venue, think about what you want your guests to see. Are you searching for the perfect grand staircase for your elegant reception entrance? A big picture window to provide the backdrop for your first dance? Or maybe you want to be outside with an unobstructed view of the sunset. Create a list of which views are important to you and your fiance while conducting your wedding venue research. W: WALKTHROUGHS ARE A MUST We cannot stress enough the importance of walkthroughs. It is never a good idea to book a venue site unseen. While we love ogling over picturesque images of different venues, it is tough to get a full conception of a space without physically walking through it. If you are planning on getting married in an area you cannot visit, have your wedding planner facetime you from the potential venue as she does a walk through. A virtual tour is better than site unseen.

Brandon Chesbro

X: XTRAS Donut walls, giant lawn games, alpaca special appearances, and food trucks are all unique extras couples can choose from to personalize their wedding day experience. If you have your heart set on any unconventional extras, make sure your venue allows for them.

901.522.1144 | BALINESEBALLROOM.COM 330 N. Main St. Memphis, TN 38103

T | W ¡ 138

Y: YES, YOUR VENUE IS IMPORTANT Your venue is one of the most important aspects of your wedding. For the least amount of stress, we recommend booking your venue twelve months prior to your wedding. It may seem like a long time, but venues, especially popular ones, can be booked out over a year in advance. If you are using a house of worship for your ceremony, make sure they are available before booking your reception venue. Z: ZZZ SLEEP ON IT After you have toured all of your potential wedding venues, sleep on it. Don’t feel rushed to make your decision right after your tour. Sit down with your fiance and make a pros and cons list to make sure you are both happy.

HOTELS Hosting your big day at a hotel is not only a beautiful location that provides an event space and catered food, but also serves as a practical way for your guests to have a place to stay during your wedding weekend. Hotels are perfect for the couple who will be having family and friends come in from out of town, and you’ll even save on time and transportation too because of the convenient location. A lot of hotels offer inclusive wedding packages that allow you to rent the space, decor and catering all in one, some even include a full-service staff too!

COUNTRY CLUBS

Fall in Love with Tunica RiverPark. The Perfect Locale for Your Perfect Day.

Are you the person who has childhood memories of playing tennis or learning how to play golf at your local country club? Why not have a bit of nostalgia and get married at your favorite members-only club? Country clubs are perfect for the couple that wants both indoor and outdoor space as an option during the wedding and because they are sophisticated, formal and casual all in one they are perfect for every kind of wedding. With multiple ball rooms, dining rooms, gardens and gazebos, there are plenty of options for places to tie the knot. Like hotels, country clubs often have many wedding services available on-site and for one package price. A lot of these clubs offer catering and design services as well as breathtaking views and perfectly green lawns.

BARNS/RUSTIC If you’re a bride who loves everything DIY, barns are the perfect place to get married and put all of your Pinterest-worthy ideas to the test. Because a barn is a blank canvas, you can have the freedom to use your own creativity. Whether you and your spouse are looking to capture a rustic look with authentic charm or a bohemian ceremony with vintage vibes, a barn is the perfect backdrop for endless customization. You can theme everything from the table settings to the wall decor without worrying that the venue may not fit with your idea of what you envisioned. Whether you are going for a country look or an elegant feel, barns complement any style. Plus, because barns are often contained on acres of green space, you can have the privacy you want without bothering any neighbors while dancing the night away.

WINERIES AND VINEYARDS Ever dreamed of having the ambiance and thrill of a destination but don’t want to make your guests shell out passports just to get to the wedding? Look no further than a wine vineyard. Vineyards are perfect for the couple looking for beautiful scenery and amazing wine, paired with some amazing views. Because vineyards are often located on lush green hills and wide open spaces, you and your guests will experience no shortage of outdoor elegance and romantic moments. A lot of vineyards offer tons of wedding weekend activities as well including wine tasting sessions and tours.

One of the most fun and creative ways to celebrate your big day is choosing a unique location that is specific to your personality. There are several places that, upon request, can be turned into wedding venues, even if you may not have thought about it before. Nature lovers will fall in love with the beautiful setting a garden brings to any wedding. Complete with tall trees, lush green grass and colorful flowers, you’ll be falling head over heels for the fairytale setting. If you’re a couple who would rather be on the water than on land, try hosting your ceremony and reception on a boat or rented yacht. Taking your wedding on deck is a fun-filled way to let your guests enjoy your big day as you set sail into the next chapter of your life. Animal lovers may want to think about hosting their ceremony at a local zoo or park. Those with a love for racing can tie the knot at Bristol Motor Speedway by getting married in the winner’s circle. The speedway will also offer couples the chance to have the reception in the center of the track. Couples who are looking for a thrilling joyride can take a spin around the track too!

DESTINATION Destination weddings are perfect for the adventure-seeking couple who is looking to start the honeymoon early and spend quality time with their guests. Because a destination wedding is defined as marrying at least 100 miles away from the bride’s current address, you don’t necessarily have to cross oceans and borders for the picture-perfect wedding of your dreams. Having a destination wedding gives couple’s the opportunity to see the world as their playground, with endless opportunities to make it as big or as small as you want. Destination planners can also make your trip more budget-friendly and provide packages for everyone and location-specific customization.

HISTORIC MANSIONS If you’re a history buff who is looking to be surrounded by beautiful architecture, getting married in a historic home or mansion is your go-to venue to feel like royalty on your wedding day. Because many of these homes are located in historic districts, you and your guests will be transported back years or even centuries into the past. Complete with gorgeous staircases, beautifully landscaped greenery, and the availability of both indoor and outdoor space for the ceremony and reception, mansions are a great place to celebrate your big day.

RESTAURANTS AND BARS If you and your spouse are foodies who are looking for a venue with more personality and flair, try looking into hosting your wedding at your favorite restaurant. Wedding food can get a bad rap, and often turns out different than you imagined. Celebrating your big day at a place known for its cuisine is a guaranteed way to make sure everyone leaves with an amazing experience. If you’re looking for a space to host not only your ceremony but also provide the food and drinks, restaurants are the way to go. Restaurants are often used to host events so you can be sure that the staff knows what they’re doing!

RELIGIOUS SPACES If religion plays an important role in your relationship with your spouse, you may want to consider having your wedding at a house of worship. Many couples choose to have their wedding at a location of religious significance to them. Worried about your wedding feeling too traditional? You can always hold your reception at another venue!

MUSEUMS/THEATRES Paintings, sculptures, dinosaurs, oh my! Many museums offer spaces for art and history loving couples looking to tie the knot in a fun setting, complete with its own historical artifacts. Getting married in a museum will provide a an exciting backdrop for you and your guests to enjoy, all while learning a thing or two about some of the world’s most famous people, cultures and ideas. Many museums come with event planners that can map out exactly when, how and what you want your wedding to look like. If you and your spouse are lovers of theater, you may want to consider getting married there! Theaters are some of the most beautiful and grand places to get hitched and make for a grand start to your marriage.

Use your centerpiece or table runner as the main decor for the table. With lush florals and exciting textures, you can keep the rest simple!

Vintage glasses are an easy way to add a pop of color and character to your place setting.

Your napkins are also a way to add personality and color to your table. Layer your plates or chargers with a napkin in a matching palette or add a fun design.

CREATING THE PERFECT ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS UNIQUELY FOR YOU By Chelsey Gatlin

Your engagement photos are one of the more exciting aspects of preparing for your wedding! You get to dress up, hang out with your soon-to-bespouse, and have professional photos taken that you can treasure forever. This is also a wonderful chance to show off either your wedding theme or, my favorite, the personality of your relationship. Creating the perfect engagement photos that fit you as a couple is as easy as 1, 2, 3!

1. PICK A THEME OR LOCATION You could re-enact your favorite movie with full blown costumes or if there is a sport you both play, grab some props and head over to the ballpark for your session. Favorite vacation spot? Use that as the setting for your photos! Recreating your first date, or perhaps just an at-home session with your photographer are such intimate ways to capture your relationship and tell your love story, too! With your theme or location feeling natural for you, it will definitely show in your photos!

2. HIRE THE RIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER Whether it’s the photographer who is also capturing your wedding or someone hired solely for the engagement photos, be sure to communicate what you are envisioning for your session including locations, props, and outfits you have in mind. Ask questions on if they’ve shot anything similar and their photography style. If you’re imagining your session without a lot of fixed poses and with more of a relaxed vibe, let them know up front, so they can be prepared and you won’t be disappointed later on!

3. RELAX!

Images by Tara Kneiser Photography

The whole point of creating your engagement photos to reflect who you are as a couple is letting your personalities and love story shine! So, relax, have fun, and let your photographer take the reins to capture who you are! You’ll love the result!

“Our first dance song was Tennessee Whiskey - Clark Beckham ft. Madison Ryann: We chose this song mostly as a tribute to Michael’s home state, Tennessee. Also, fun fact... when I was debating whether or not my dress was THE dress, I went to try it on a second time on a completely different date. The moment I walked out of the dressing room in it, Tennessee Whiskey started playing in the salon! That’s how I knew it was definitely my dress.”

A GROOM’S OPINION 5 WAYS TO INCORPORATE WHAT HE WANTS By Katherine Whitehead

One of the questions brides often ask wedding planners is how to incorporate what their husband wants in their wedding ceremony and reception. Because bridal advertising and planning is often focused on the more feminine aspects of tying the knot, grooms often get left out of the picture entirely when it comes to incorporating their own needs and wants into the ceremony and reception. After years of weddings being full of flowers, pink and intricate details, more couples are turning to their spouse for inspiration because we must not forget - it’s their day too!

T | W · 182

1. CONSIDER MASCULINE INVITATIONS/PLACE CARDS When planning a wedding, it is important to make sure the groom’s interest is taken into consideration. There are several ways to incorporate masculine touches in your big day, even down to the choice of font style, including sticking to bold typography and darker colors over more feminine calligraphy. Instead of going for those blush pink invitations you’ve been looking at, try surprising your guests by going black or silver with touches of blue.

M od e r n · C l a s s i c · r e g a l Locally owned and operated for 35 years!

All the latest styles are in stock and in store! Huge selection of colors to choose from! Groom’s free tuxedo promotion!

2. EXPERIMENT WITH COLOR AND TEXTURE Don’t count out your spouse just because they’re a guy! Try asking your groom which colors and textures he likes when planning your venue design, as well as his decor preferences. You may be surprised at what he comes up with! One of the best ways to contrast feminine and masculine qualities is to consider color and texture as different elements. Many couples focus on using only a small color palette to design their wedding day style. Try using texture to add extra depth to the reception, including different fabrics, floral arrangements and table settings. Rich, earthy textures such as leather, pewter and bronze, as well as tree bark and moss also help to provide an extra masculine element. 3. PERSONALITY TYPE Chances are over the time you’ve been with your partner, you’ve gotten to know not only a lot about yourself but also about him. Men often fall into multiple personality categories, but can often be narrowed down into at least one or two character types. If your groom is a more outdoorsy type of guy, you may want to consider having an outdoor wedding with some special aspects of any recreational activities he enjoys doing. Maybe your guy prefers to spend time in the art studio and would prefer more creative elements in the reception (that could mean incorporating his own artwork, too!) Does your future husband have a fondness for brewing his own beer? Try booking a beer truck or using the bottles as table settings. 4. SPORTS TEAMS Score major points with your hubby by incorporating some team spirit into your wedding day. Whether he spends his free time watching the latest football game, out on the golf course or cheering on his favorite baseball team as they hit a home run, there are tons of fun ways to win over your crowd (and your man) by having a sports-inspired wedding reception. Using the team logo as a background for your nuptial monogram is one of our favorite ways to do this - and they can be placed on almost everything at the reception, including the menu, drinks, signage and as a light projection on the dance floor. Other ideas include naming signature cocktails after favorite sports teams or athletes as well as having a post-vow wedding tailgate complete with sports decor and memorabilia. 5. GROOM’S CAKE The groom’s cake is a long-standing tradition and totally an amazing way to let your man’s personality shine. Starting back in England in the late 19th century, the traditional wedding cake was considered too feminine for the groom at the time and it was thought that the groom should have a cake of his own. Years later the tradition has made its way to North America, and has since become more fun and wild than ever. Grooms cakes often have elements of activities, sports teams and other likes of the groom, including superhero designs and even beer can or football helmet shaped desserts.

WHAT IS BEST FOR YOUR GROOM

a Suit or a Tuxedo? By Julie Hancock

There is often some uncertainty from grooms on their wedding attire. Should you wear a suit or a tuxedo? And what is the difference between them anyway?? Don’t fret, we are here to save the day and help you decide which is better for your wedding! Whether you decide on a casual and cool suit or a classy and sexy tux, we can promise one thing: your S.O. won’t be able to take their eyes off of you! We have the answers you’re looking for to three of the most common menswear questions!

1. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TUXEDO AND A SUIT?

Before making a final decision, you need to really understand the differences between the two! The biggest difference is that a tuxedo has the presence of satin on it, while a suit does not. You will see satin on the lapels, buttons, and pocket lining of the tuxedo jacket, as well as a strip of satin down each pant leg. In contrast, suits have plastic or cloth-covered buttons and no satin parts. Tuxedos may also have additional components like a cummerbund or vest, while a suit may or may not be accompanied by a vest or suspenders. In addition, a bow tie is traditionally worn with a tux and a tie is worn with a suit, although this line has been blurred in modern times! Another difference between a suit and a tux are the color options. Generally, a tuxedo will only come in black or navy and possibly have pinstripes. A suit, however, comes in various shades, styles, and fabrics (you can even find denim suits, but we don’t exactly recommend that!). For some weddings, think an outdoor beach wedding, the groom will be more comfortable in a light colored suit made of a thinner fabric, and this can’t exactly be achieved in a tuxedo.

2. IS IT INAPPROPRIATE FOR THE GROOM TO WEAR A SUIT TO THE WEDDING?

Definitely not! It is very common to see a groom and his groomsmen in suits for weddings. It does, however, depend on the wedding. For more casual weddings, a suit is perfect. If it is a very elegant affair, a tuxedo might be more fitting. A good way to help make your decision is to look at your S.O.’s outfit. If she is wearing an extravagant wedding gown, you would look a little underwhelming in a suit. On the other hand, if this is a casual rustic wedding and she is wearing a sweet lace dress with cowgirl boots, an elegant tuxedo might be silly. The entire theme of the wedding should give you a pretty good idea of which would work best. However, if your wedding is kind of on the line and you still aren’t sure, the best option is to just discuss with your S.O. Do they want the wedding slightly dressed up and made more elegant, or dressed down to stay casual? The two of you will be able to come to the right answer if you just take a minute to discuss what you’re looking for!

3. WHAT IS THE PRICE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TUXEDO AND A SUIT?

Not surprisingly, this varies depending on whom you’re asking and what exactly you’re looking for, although you’re very likely to find competitive rates between local providers. At retail, of course, a tuxedo is more expensive than a suit. When considering rental costs, however, which is definitely a more popular option at this time, you’ll likely find that tuxedo rentals start at a lower price point than suits. As with wedding dresses (and really anything in the wedding industry!), there is a huge range of prices for suits and tuxedos, so the best option is to take some time to check out a few stores and discuss it with the experts. They can lead you in the right direction and find something within any price range!

Shanell Bledsoe Photography

In the end, the most important thing is that you and your partner are happy and that you are comfortable with your choice. Because let’s be real, the only thing that matters at your wedding is that you get married and get to start your happily ever after!

“Our inspiration for our day was our relationship itself. The color palette was white and champagne with pops of color through greenery and florals to symbolize our relationship being renewed through Christ. The lucite tables and chairs reflected light beautifully which brought subtle sparkle to everything signifying the celebration of marriage. Our late night snack was Hard Knox Pizza and bottled coke which was our favorite date night spot! Our party favors were chocolate chip cookies from Tate’s, our favorite cookies.”

What Not to DIY for Your Wedding By Katherine Whitehead

If you’re a crafty bride, you love two things: hot glue guns and mod podge. Nothing is better than a fresh coat of paint and a refurbished chair! With your wedding approaching, there is no better time to show off your trade than the present. However, while it may seem like a great idea to put those saved pins to use on your big day, sometimes it’s better to leave it to the professionals.

PLANNING Although you may be organized and have dozens of planners and people dedicated to helping you plan your wedding, professional wedding coordinators can make the difference between a wedding that fits your style and one that feels less than what you envisioned. Whether you choose to go with a full-service, month of, or day of planner, they are there to make sure you and your fiance have the wedding of your dreams, giving you time to breathe as you prepare for your big day.

DRESS No matter how great you are with a needle and thread, your wedding is not the time to sew your own dress. Getting married is one of the biggest days of your life, and you’re going to want to look back on it knowing that you looked and felt your best. Choosing the gown of your dreams in store will allow you to make arrangements for any necessary fittings and alterations that couldn’t be done otherwise. Additionally, purchasing your gown from a reputable salon instead of from an online store guarantees you know exactly what you’re getting.

FLORAL ARRANGEMENTS It may seem like a great idea to cut your own wildflowers for your floral arrangement, however, this can lead to some sad-looking flora. Most flowers should be cut and handled shortly before the event. You don’t want to spend the time before your ceremony putting yourself and others to work trimming stems and assembling bouquets. Hiring a seasoned florist is the best way to ensure beautiful blooms!

PHOTOGRAPHY

Annie Spratt on Unsplash

It’s pretty likely that nearly everyone you know owns a camera, and as much as people think they know a thing or two about photography, there’s a good chance the photos could turn out less than stellar. Before you decide to let your friend take your wedding day photos, consider leaving it to the pros. A photographer is there to do one thing - photograph. Unlike your bestie with the fancy camera, they won’t be spending time socializing. Their job is to focus on you and the happy moments of your day. They know when and where the lighting is the best and will think of photos that your family may not.

CAKE When it comes to preparing the perfect cake, it’s often better to let someone else do the baking. Even if you think you can save some bucks with a nice sheet cake, it may be overwhelming when it comes to figuring out how much to serve. Cake pros have experience planning wedding cakes, and a good sense of what it takes to give you the dessert you want, while making sure everyone at the reception leaves with a wonderful taste.

FOOD If you’re expecting a large amount of guests, preparing your own food for your reception is probably not a great idea. It takes a lot of work to make a large amount of food, which only adds to the list of things to do before the wedding. Consider hiring a caterer to help you in planning, cooking and serving your food and drinks. Caterers know what it takes to serve a crowd and can help you brainstorm how to make your menu stand out, while still keeping in mind your own personal touches. When you let them take over, they can figure out the logistics of transportation, storage and set up too.

Doing your own hair and makeup may seem reasonable, but it may be a better idea to see a hair stylist and makeup artist for your wedding day do’. Being in charge of your own look may lead to added stress and uncertainty as you get ready the day of your wedding. Try to hire a professional and set up a trial appointment so you know exactly what you want, This will help check another item off your list, allowing you to be on your way to the altar in no time!

6 CLASSIC WEDDING TRADITIONS

to NEVER FORGET By Julie Hancock

As you might know, wedding trends are constantly changing! There are some traditions that have generally stuck around, like white wedding dresses (although even that is being challenged now!), and there are other traditions that have been forgotten entirely. Here are 6 of our favorite classic wedding traditions that we think should be brought back to modern weddings!

1. NOT SEEING EACH OTHER BEFOREHAND This tradition is often seen in movies and TV, but if you ask any of your married friends there is a good chance that they saw each other before the ceremony. Why has this tradition become old news? Mostly for efficiency; instead of having your guests sit and wait for the newlyweds to take their pictures during a long cocktail hour, many couples opt to take most or all of their pictures before the ceremony and having a short or nonexistent cocktail hour before the reception. While we understand that this is sometimes the only option, there is something to be said about your first time seeing each other on your wedding day be the moment you step out into the aisle! 2. HAVING A GROOM’S CAKE This was commonplace as recent as the early 2000’s, but as wedding cakes become more grand and expensive, groom’s cakes are becoming increasingly less common. However, we love the idea of a groom’s cake! Not only does it allow for more unique flavors and fun designs (think the red velvet armadillo cake in Steel Magnolias!), but having a groom’s cake means more cake! And let’s be real, more cake is never a bad thing. 3. LITERALLY TYING THE KNOT! This is a popular phrase used by brides and wedding professionals alike, but where does it come from?? In Celtic tradition, the bride and groom had their hands literally tied together, but if that seems impractical for your wedding, tying a knot on its own is just as meaningful! Plus, the knot that you and your partner tie can be turned into sweet memorabilia for display in your home!

T | W · 220

4. PLANTING A TREE Planting a tree outside your home to celebrate a marriage was commonplace in some European countries, and we think it should become a thing in the US too! Not only are you doing a good deed (yay for planting trees!), you have a living, growing memory of your wedding that you can look at every day! Pine trees were often chosen since they represent luck and fertility, but we love the idea of customizing it based on your preferences. Since we are in the south, maybe a gorgeous Magnolia tree would be the perfect choice! 5. A MONTH-LONG HONEYMOON Ok, this might just be wishful thinking, but we think the most important wedding tradition to bring back is the month-long honeymoon! Something along these lines was common in many cultures. In some, the newlyweds took the month to settle into their new lives and homes, and in others, like in 19th century upper-class England, the couple took long tours of the country or holidays to locations like France and Italy. This can be modernized with half of your honeymoon being an awesome vacation and the other half being more of a staycation where you and your new spouse just enjoy spending time at home together! 6. A MONEY DANCE Originating in Poland in the 1900’s, a money dance is a super fun way to get some pocket change for your honeymoon and is quite entertaining for your guests! In a money dance, guests pay money (usually just a dollar!) for a chance to dance with one of the newlyweds. Generally, the maid of honor or best man holds the money, and alcohol is often involved. Overall, it’s a super fun tradition that we’d love to see it become popular in the US again!

Pro Tip:

Becoming a MRS.

5 TIPS ON CHANGING YOUR LAST NAME

Be sure to get extra certified copies of your marriage license. In some cases, you will have to send off multiple copies to change your name on other identification forms.

By Samantha Viau Changing your name from Miss to Mrs. is a very exciting to-do! Be prepared though, changing your last name is a multi-step process. We have listed all of our simplest tips to make the name change as smooth as possible!

1. Get Your Marriage License The first step to changing your name is receiving the certified version of your marriage license. These are issued from your local courthouse, so they are able to answer any questions you may have!

3. Update Your Driver’s License Cruise down to the local Department of Motor Vehicles office to update your last name on your driver’s license. Don’t forget to bring your certified marriage license and updated Social Security card.

2. Apply For A New Social Security Card Head to the Social Security Administration’s website to apply for a new card. Be sure to submit your proof of legal name change and proof of identity. Be patient, it usually takes about 10 days to receive your new card in the mail!

4. Change Your Bank Accounts & Credit Card Information If you and your hubs have a joint bank account or plan to open one, take a trip to your branch of choice. Be sure to bring your certified marriage certificate and updated driver’s license. Don’t forget to order new checks and cards with your name change, too!

T | W · 224

5. Get A New Passport If you plan to head out on a dreamy exotic honeymoon, don’t forget to get a new passport! Head to your local clerk’s office with your birth certificate, updated driver’s license, marriage license, and Social Security card. Be prepared to spend a little bit of money for this step! Don’t forget to call and inform your utility companies, insurance providers, and doctor’s offices of your new last name. Also, contact your airline frequent flyer program to ensure that your miles get transferred over! And finally, update your handle and bio to show off your new last name on all of your social media accounts!

Tricia Edwards ďż˝ Mark Faulkner

“We incorporated eating together as a tradition. Mark and I usually prepare and eat our meals every night as husband and wife. We wanted our family and friends to celebrate with us in this tradition. So we gathered for 3 nights in a row over dinner, including the wedding night, to enable everyone to meet and enjoy one another’s company. ”

SWEET

TREATS By Katherine Whitehead

When it comes to desserts, we can definitely be the first to say we have an undeniable sweet tooth. From cakes to cookies to our favorite frozen treats, there is nothing we love more than indulging in our ultimate craving. The hardest part about choosing a special treat for your big day is limiting yourself to only a few options. With so many types of desserts, it can be a difficult task to decide on the one that’s right for your reception.

T | W ¡ 232

CAKES

Who said cakes were just for birthday parties? If we had it our way, we’d be eating it for breakfast. Because this sweet bread can be made in a limitless number of ways, they are our ultimate go-to for wedding day desserts. The best part is, you don’t have to limit yourself to the traditional vanilla or chocolate. There are different varieties and textures that offer something for every palette. From angel food cake to sponge cake to even flourless cakes, there are many options. If you’re looking for something a little different, try a pound cake, fruit cake, cheesecake, or throw your guests a twist and have cute cupcakes as a special surprise.

Where every slice is nice!

COOKIES

Texture Photo

Cookies originate from the Netherlands. The name cookie, comes from the Dutch word “koekje” meaning “little cake”. They began as spoonfuls of cake batter cooked to test the oven temperature before ovens had thermometers. Today the small cookie has turned into a dessert industry empire. Whether they be our original favorite chocolate chip, or something more unique like strawberry cheesecake, cookies will always have a special place in our heart.

PIES

What better way to give your guests a taste of summer than to have pies at your reception? Pies are a totally nostalgic dessert that has us longing for the days of childhood summers and 4th of July parties, and with the infinite number of ways to create these delicacies, our taste buds are wanting more. The crust can be made from pastry dough or graham crackers while the filling allows unlimited possibilities, including apple, pecan, lime, or even something more sweet like chocolate.

DONUTS

www.cakerybakerytn.com | 865.247.4439 | cakerybakery@aol.com

Not only are donuts one of the coolest and trendiest foods of the year, but they’re also a surefire way to have guests of all ages leaving with full stomachs. These fried dough confections are known for being convenient as both a breakfast item and a dessert so they can fit in with any type of wedding.

CHOCOLATES

With its smooth texture, and deep richness, chocolate is one of those things we can all get behind. Harvested straight from cacao seeds found in the forests of the jungle, chocolate has become one of the most popular foods in the world. Because it comes in so many variations including solid chocolate, toppings like chocolate sauce and chocolate sprinkles, this divine treat is something that should be at the top of everyone’s list.

CANDY

If you’re looking for a more unique way to celebrate your wedding day, try incorporating some of your favorite candies. Some of our favorite ideas are to have a candy bar included after the main course of your reception, or to provide candy favors as a simple ‘thank you’ to your guests for attending.

ICE CREAM

Nothing is better at beating the heat than cold ice cream. Created out of frozen and churned cream, this dessert has been a fan favorite since day one. Because there are so many ways to make it, you can get creative on what kind you want. If you’re looking for something different try an Italian gelato with a milk base. Frozen custard is another great option as it uses egg yolks to provide a richer and creamier texture. For those guests that need something dairy-free, go for a fresh sorbet made from fruit puree. If you’re wanting a low-calorie ice cream, try frozen yogurt that substitutes cream for yogurt.

CUSTARDS AND PUDDINGS

Custards and puddings are another great way to provide variety to your dessert options. These delicacies usually have a thick dairy base, the thickness ultimately determining whether it is a custard or pudding. Crème brûlée is a great baked custard to try, while pudding can be flavored with vanilla, chocolate or any other type of ingredient. Texture Photo

GET YOUR SKIN TO GLOW FOR YOUR BIG DAY We all know that stress can wreak havoc on our beautiful skin. Here are some ways to care for your skin as you prepare for your big day! First, as simple as it may sound; be sure to wash your face morning and night. Next, exfoliate with a product of your choice and try to get a dermaplaning every month for 3-4 months leading up to your big day. What is dermaplaning you ask? Dermaplaning is a delicate skin resurfacing procedure customized to fit your skin concerns. During this in-office procedure, a specialized instrument is utilized to gently and effectively remove the superficial epidermal layer of dead skin cells. Additionally villous hair (“peachfuzz”) and surface impurities are gently removed, giving your skin a beautiful glow. Using medical grade products is the best way to achieve the glow you desire for your big day. Medical grade products can be found in plastic surgery or dermatology offices. These products have been thoroughly tested and are proven to work. Most products that you buy at the drugstore or the big box retailers haven’t been tested and don’t have a high enough percentage of any one ingredient to be super effective. The three products we recommend investing in are a sunscreen that has Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide as one of the active Ingredients, an antioxidant that contains Vitamin C and E as two of the main ingredients, and finally a retinoid. At Gilpin Facial Plastics, we customize all our skin care plans to each individual. A complimentary skin care consultation is included with each office visit. Should you be interested in just a skin care consultation we offer them for $50 and the cost of the appointment is then applied to the products purchased during the consultation. Lastly, one of the best investments you can make for your big day to give you a glow and smooth out any wrinkles is Botox and or filler. Botox ranges in costs depending on your goals. Botox treatments typically cost between $250 - $600 per treatment and last 3-4 months. Filler is a great way to enhance your lips, treat dark under eye circles, give more volume to the cheeks, and reduce the appearance of laugh lines. The best time to get filler is one month out from the big day. For more information on these services, check out our Instagram page @GilpinFacialPlastics. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact our friendly team at 615-942-7301.

Gilpin Facial Plastics extends the following offers to our Pink Bride clients and their friends and family. Ultimate Bride Prep Package Dermaplaning for 3 months prior to your wedding Botox a month before your wedding (20 units) Lip Filler – 1 Syringe 3 Skin Care Must Haves $1,000 (normally priced at $1,405) Bridesmaid Prep Package* aka the “Botox Party” Complimentary Botox for Bride or friend of her choice Bridesmaid Botox (20 units or more/per person) *Minimum of 5 people to book party Best if booked 1 month before wedding T | W · 240

Roberto Nickson (@g) on Unsplash

When it comes to planning your wedding, the honeymoon can sometimes get overlooked. Because the time around your wedding is often spent dealing with ceremony details, finding a venue and booking a caterer, your special post-wedding vacay often means trying to navigate the highstakes world of rising airfare rates and booking the last AirBnb available. After all of the months spent planning your big day, there’s nothing you’d rather do than sit back, relax, and set sail on your ultimate getaway, so why not let someone else handle the planning? In order to ease the stress of traveling with your new spouse, here are three reasons you should use a travel agent for your honeymoon.

1. TIME SAVING With all of the time spent putting the finishing touches on your ceremony and reception, it is far more likely that you will have less time than you think to spend planning a vacation on top of that. A travel agent can do all of the hard work for you while giving you more time to think about your vows. Set up a time to meet with a travel agent and discuss your ideas for the ultimate honeymoon. Come up with a plan of a few destinations you would be interested in, along with a date range and budget. This will allow your agent to make the most of their time and yours.

2. TRAVEL UPGRADES A travel agent can not only save you tons of money in the long run by finding the best deals, but they can also use their connections to hook you up with instant vacay upgrades, often including first-class seats on the flight and an oceanview room. If you’ve ever dreamed of having your own private tour guide, wine tasting session or spa experience, travel agents are your ultimate go-to for complete customization. Unlike the average person trying to book a vacation, travel agents have access to tons of resources that allow their clients to live like royalty and get a ton of extra perks in the process, like resorts and activities you may have never known about.

3. BACK-UP Ever arrive at your vacation destination and realize that it truly isn’t how you imagined? With your travel agent, you’ll have a constant backup to talk to should you run into any unforeseen circumstances. Think of it like having your own fairy godmother right at the touch of your phone. Instead of spending your trip waiting for it to be over, just give them a call and they can make your wishes come true. If your room isn’t cutting it for you or your tour guide ends up bailing, travel agents are there to provide support and make other arrangements.

CHECKLIST FOR YOUR

honeymoon

Link Hoang on Unsplash

By Katherine Whitehead

Let’s all admit it - we’ve all day dreamed of how amazing our honeymoon will be someday. The sun, the sand, that crystal blue water and quality time with our hubbies is enough to get every bride excited. From long sunny days with margaritas, polar bear kisses in the snow, or couples massages in the spa, your post-wedding vacay is meant for rest, relaxation and a chance to check out from the real world. Because planning for your big day is an adventure on its own, many brides end up saving the honeymoon prep for last. When deciding what to bring on your honeymoon, it’s easy to become over prepared. We’re often tempted to bring way more than what is necessary and often end up with heavy suitcases full of things we don’t need. Whether you’re soaking up the sun’s rays on a tropical island in paradise or hitting the cold slopes of Aspen, we’ve compiled a list of the ultimate honeymoon must-haves for every destination.

HONEYMOON BASICS · Carry-on · Passport, IDs · Reading material for the flights and during downtime · Laptop, camera, chargers · Toiletries · Pajamas · Lingerie to surprise him on the first night · The perfume that you wore on your wedding day (This will bring back memories for him!) · A special outfit to wear to dinner · Workout Gear · Sunglasses · Guide Book · Language Dictionary · Comfortable clothes to fly home in

T | W · 256

WARM WEATHER HONEYMOON · Sunhat · Bathing suits for the beach and pool · Sunscreen · Small cooler for keeping a few bottles of water, beer, champagne, etc., for when you head out to the beach if your accommodations don’t provide something for you to use. · Speaker to take to the beach · Comfortable shoes (sandals or Chaco’s for walking)

COLD WEATHER HONEYMOON · Winter hat · Heavy coat (Patagonia makes great ones) · Thick sweaters · Jeans · Socks - Our favorite are J. Crew’s Camp Socks · Boots for hiking - L.L. Bean Boots are a classic

2019 HONEYMOON D E S T I N AT I O N S By Julie Hancock

After the long and sometimes grueling months of wedding planning and preparation, you and your new spouse deserve the honeymoon of your dreams! Not sure where you want to go? Can’t decide between white sand and blue waters or striking mountains and deep fjords? No problem! We’ve compiled a list of some of the most amazing honeymoon destinations as well as an idea of what type of couple would most enjoy said location, all in the hopes of helping you decide where to have your perfect honeymoon!

COSTA RICA White beaches, clear blue waters, and endless adventure awaits you in Costa Rica! This central American country is a hit for those who like a healthy mix of relaxing by the beach and getting an adrenaline rush from activities like zip lining through the jungle. Less expensive and less crowded than somewhere like Hawaii, Costa Rica lets you and your spouse get an authentic and romantic tropical experience at a great price. If you’re the type of couple who loves warm weather and a combo of adrenaline-inducing adventure and total relaxation, Costa Rica might be the place for you!

GREECE Steeped in a rich history and overflowing with unique and wonderful culture, Greece is the perfect choice for your honeymoon destination! The picturesque white buildings of Santorini are a great backdrop for your romantic dinners, then brush up on your ancient history in Athens. The food is great, the water is clear, and the two of you will make unforgettable memories! If the two of you like beautiful beaches, perfect weather, and have a passion for history and culture, then you can’t go wrong with Greece!

JAMAICA The gorgeous Caribbean island of Jamaica has so much more to offer than the stereotypical idea of Jamaica that so many Americans have! This lush island has incredible hiking opportunities, stunning beaches, and the food is to die for! Jamaica has been increasing in popularity as a honeymoon destination, but it is still affordable and has a sense of unspoiled beauty that will make you wish you never had to leave! For those who love affordable luxury and amazing culture, Jamaica is the place to be!

THAILAND Thailand is starting to be recognized for what it is: one of the most beautiful places in the world! This tropical country in Southeast Asia is known for its amazing beaches, ancient ruins, and extremely low prices! While a flight to Thailand might cost more than many of the locations on this list, the cost of everything else more than makes up for it. If you and your spouse are interested in trying new foods and having a totally unique experience, consider Thailand! It’s perfect for adventure seekers who like getting more bang for their buck.

PORTUGAL This small country on the western edge of Spain is filled to the brim with culture, but still not filled with as many tourists as its bigger neighbor! Portugal has a rich and exciting history but doesn’t get the huge numbers of tourists that Spain does, making it a great place for a honeymoon. The capital city of Lisbon is vibrant and beautiful, mixing traditional architecture and heritage with a modern way of living. If you like exploring new cities, taking trips to rural countryside, and being surrounded by history, then Portugal is just right! You can’t go wrong with a honeymoon to this gorgeous country!

NAPA VALLEY For a honeymoon destination that’s a bit closer to home, you can’t go wrong with Napa Valley! Wine, sun, and endless relaxation can be expected when you head to the California wine country. Napa is all about luxury, so prepare to feel pampered! Your days will be filled with good food and good wine, and really, does it get better than that? For the couple who doesn’t want to worry about stressful planning, a honeymoon to Napa Valley is simple, relaxing, and allows you to just worry about which wine you want to try next!

263 · ThePinkBride.com

VANCOUVER Calling all hikers! Vancouver is one of the best places in North America for hiking, and you and your spouse will never run out of trails to take! Additionally, Vancouver has a vibrant city life, tons of amazing restaurants, and it is right on the Pacific ocean. If you aren’t in the mood to hike one day, you can take a whale watching tour and see some once in a lifetime sights! So for the couples who appreciate a short flight, amazing green-filled forests, and lots of outdoor activities, Vancouver is the perfect choice for you.

ITALY It’s a well-known fact that Italy is known for its romance! Ever since Shakespeare chose fair Verona as the setting for Romeo and Juliet, lovers have chosen this Mediterranean country for romantic getaways. There are so many things for you to do; wine tasting in Tuscany, sightseeing in Rome, shopping in Milan, and so much more! Taking a tour of Italy with your spouse sounds like the ideal way to spend your honeymoon to me! If you are fans of art, history, culture, amazing food, and splendid weather, then you and your new spouse will have the time of your lives in Italy!

T | W · 264

CUBA

NORWAY

A honeymoon in Cuba isn’t quite as straightforward as the rest of the locations in this list, but it just might be worth the trouble! The lively capital of Cuba, Havana, seems to be frozen in time and is a completely unique honeymoon location for the two of you to enjoy. There are restrictions for Americans who wish to visit Cuba, due to the trade embargo, but it isn’t impossible. If you and your spouse are up to the task of getting approved to visit Cuba, you’ll be in for the trip of a lifetime complete with delicious food, unique culture, and so many great photo ops!

So much space for activities! The rugged landscape of Norway is the perfect location for the adventurous couple. Much of the country is wilderness, providing ample opportunities for hiking, boating, horseback riding, and many more outdoor activities. The extremely unique cuisine will surprise and delight you, and the photo opportunities at the many fjords are almost worth the trip on its own! Prepare yourself for a feast of lutefisk and aquavit, and remember to always toast with a lively “Skål!” If the two of you enjoy rugged outdoors, beautiful sights, and aren’t afraid to try new foods, Norway is the best honeymoon spot for you!
