Now, I know what might be running through your mind. The giddiness of the engagement party is starting to wear off, and thoughts of actually planning your wedding—dress shopping, cake tasting, choosing a photographer, etc.—are beginning to bombard you left and right. But keep in mind two very important decisions that will either help or hinder your wedding planning process.

Marketing Assistant Tammy Hill

Marketing Executive Ashlan Bonnell

Production Manager Karen Tobias

First things first—decide on a budget. Nearly every other to-do is affected by your set amount of funds! Being wise about what to spend and knowing your limitations from the get-go is extremely important in order to avoid post-wedding stress. Once creating a financial plan, figure out whether or not this leaves room for a wedding planner. They are familiar with the wedding professionals in the market and have worked at many of the reception facilities. A wedding planner’s know-how can help keep you within your budget and keep you calm on your big day! With all the time and money involved with your wedding, a professional wedding planner can guide you through the decisions and details with grace and ease. At the very least, consider hiring a day-of planner to help coordinate the many details of the wedding day. And don’t forget to attend the next Pink Bridal Show! This is a great way for brides and businesses to unite and build an unforgettable wedding experience. Bring friends and family with you to join in on the fun and aid in your decision-making process. From caterers and photographers to photobooths, we’ve got it all covered. The Pink Bridal Show is for any bride situated at any stage of her planning process; don’t miss out on this incredibly helpful and exciting experience! And yes bring your Groom.

Cry stal Tinsley & Norman Pipkin May 12, 2012 PHOTOGRAPHY BY Ace photography

Crystal Tinsley & Norman Pipkin 05.12.12 Love story: We met in our Ag Engineering Professor’s office at MTSU. I was getting tutoring, and he came in for some help. The next day I was telling a few girls in the class about this cute guy I had met in Dr. Johnston’s office, when he walked in. Ethan was wearing a red shirt, and for a few weeks all of us girls referred to him as “red shirt” when we talked about him, since no one knew his name. Wedding Details: I wanted a wedding that was true to Ethan and I both. Since we weren’t able to have the ceremony at a church, I asked that Enchanted Florist make a cross to hang from the beams above the staircase. The candles that went up the stairs and the “floating” cross were a dream come true! I wanted Ethan to feel like it was just as much his day as it was mine, so I surprised him with a bluegrass version of “I saw the Light” as we did our big exit from the ceremony! There were several reasons why I chose Red as our wedding color. To me red is the most romantic and symbolic color of love and romance. I have always wanted red roses for my bridal bouquet. And of course, who could forget that Ethan was known as “red shirt” for the longest! Everyone that knows me knows that I wear boots 99% of the time, so ofcourse our country wedding wouldn’t have been complete without cowboy boots! Wedding day: After I made it to Legacy Farms, I laughed at everything! I even had a few giggles during the wedding! I think one of my favorite laughs came when my daddy walked into the bridal room for the first time. He had “found” a fake mustache, and decided to put it on! It was gross, but it absolutely made seeing him for the first time one of the most memorable and laughable moments!! My most memorable moment was seeing Ethan for the first time. I felt like the luckiest girl in the world! There were a few mishaps at the ceremony, but I do believe those were the moments when I laughed the hardest! It was definitely a ceremony that I think everyone will remember! Oh, and I tossed the first bouquet into the ceiling fan! Luckily we had an extra and Legacy Farms was a great sport about it.

BRIDAL MYTHS

Debunked!

Is wedding advice coming at you from every angle? Determine what’s fact and what’s fiction by debunking these common wedding myths.

1

IT’S NOT REALLY A WEDDING IF YOU DON’T FOLLOW TRADITION. The first person to buck tradition and wear white was Queen Victoria (that’s right...brides have not always worn white). This is now taken for granted as standard attire as is a wedding cake, first dance, bouquet toss and something blue. A wedding simply requires an officiant, license and witness. The celebration of said wedding should be an expression of the couple’s personalities, and sometimes breaking the rules leads to new traditions that are a better fit than those of past generations.

4

The Bride’s parents pay for wedding and reception; groom’s parents pay for rehearsal dinner. Wouldn’t it be nice if Mom and Dad still footed the bill? Not so with modern weddings. This myth goes out the window, as at least a third of wedding costs are now covered by the couple themselves. Families today are pooling their resources and then, together, determining how funds are spent for all related events.

2

Thank-you notes can be sent by email.

3

THE BRIDE CAN ONLY BE GIVEN AWAY BY HER FATHER.

While email is the preferred way of communication for many a message, it is generally frowned upon when thanking your wedding guests. Hand written thank-you notes are far from outdated, and though tedious to a generation of texters, it must be done. Appreciate this dying art, and take the time to communicate as your grandparents would. Years later, a friend will dig out your hand written note, carefully saved. Not your email.

This myth dates back to the days of old, when daughters were literal property of their fathers, and a wedding was merely a business deal for Dad to expand his fortunes through the sale of his daughter. While the tradition still sticks to this day, I doubt very much that modern brides would describe themselves as part of dad’s estate. Your aisle escort should be a person that played a significant and supportive role in your path to finding true love.

5

WEDDING LUCK (AND MARRIAGE) DEPENDS ON A SIXPENCE, SPIDERS AND SUPERSTITIONS. Here’s the thing about luck... it all depends on the belief that wearing a certain color, carrying a token or changing your behavior will shift future events to their preferred outcome. Luck is mostly used as a way to counter those things completely out of our control and has often been a way of explaining the unexplained. If only making it through the first year of marriage was as easy as saving the top tier of your cake. Make your own luck with careful planning, professional vendors and a positive attitude.

6

Vendors will always give a discount if you ask.

7

If you can’t foot the bar bill, offer a cash bar.

Wedding vendors are not Mexican bazaars where you haggle the best possible deal. While a vendor may run a promotion, expecting to get a discount because you’re a bride is like expecting your doctor to run a special because you’re a patient. This doesn’t make long-term business sense. Instead, plan to attend a local bridal show for show-only specials or giveaways, and be honest about your budget and vision with wedding vendors. Professionals will work with brides to find creative ways to stretch your buck and meet their bottom line.

Cash bars are T-A-C-K-Y... as well as anything else on your wedding day that require your guests to pony up cash. Remember these are the same dearly loved friends and family that bought a special outfit, traveled across the country, paid for a hotel room and bought you a gift for your wedding. During the wedding day, guests’ wallets should stay in back pockets and purses. Tactful Solution: If you are set on offering liquor at your wedding but fear the cost, consider a limited bar with only wine and beer (better yet keg beer, often costing half as much per serving as bottled).

10

8

Brides on a budget save big with DIY Projects.

9

Wedding Day is the Bride’s Day.

With the vastness of today’s World Wide Web, the likelihood of finding a bargain can make DIY more costly than one thinks. This is even more apparent when your inner crafter is not well-matched to make DIY magic (but Martha Stewart made it look so easy!). And remember, time is money, even if it is your time. Be realistic about how much time will need to be dedicated to DIY projects, particularly in the last few weeks leading up to wedding day (when the to-do list is never ending and you’d rather be with your family). If the budget is stretched thin, it might make more sense to skip it all together.

While you and your groom are certainly the guests of honor, a bride with her sights set on making wedding day entirely about her is likely to be labeled a bridezilla. Weddings are as much about the happy couple and their new life together as it is a celebration for all the related family members. Instead, find ways to celebrate your family or close friends and their traditions with your new love and the traditions in store for years to come. This ensures your guests feel part of a truly special event.

Your bridal party must have the same number of bridesmaids and groomsmen. Today’s bride has thrown out all the rules when it comes to bridal parties. With your closest friends and family by your side on wedding day, trying to stay in the box of specific numbers or even genders just doesn’t work. Nowadays, your maid of honor is now your man of honor, pooches are playing ring bearer and dancing to the altar is what makes wedding ceremonies personal, memorable and unique.

The Four Most Important Factors in Choosing

YourWedding Cake Cuisine

Your wedding cake should be of the finest culinary quality. Bringing to mind a passion for gourmet flavors and secret recipes, the word “cuisine” invokes fragrances and pictures of succulent berries, mouth-watering chocolates, roasted nuts, rich spices and fresh creamy butter. Can’t you just imagine an old world bakery exuding the heavenly aroma of delectable cakes all the way to its hand-hewn rafters? With that in mind, let’s not forget that wedding cake is first and foremost dessert.

Acclaim & Accolades

Along with your cakes being beautiful, unique works of art, there is the practical side of a wedding cake. Can your baker prove to you that your cake will be exactly what you expect it to be? Yes, a thousand times yes, if you choose a baker/designer with a reputation for baking, style and customer service. How can you be sure? The only “proof” there is comes in the form of your cake designer’s past experience and reputation. For the most trustworthy reviews, check independent sources such as marthastewartweddings.com and weddingwire.com. Most importantly, remember there are no “do overs” on wedding day.

Knowledge of Cake Construction

After the cake is baked, filled and each tier is covered with buttercream icing and/or fondant, it must be constructed. Much of our vocabulary comes from engineering and construction terms such as: foundation, base, support, level, frame, build, density, dowels, center, ratio, scale, measurements and others. We don’t make a cake, we BUILD it. In fact, we have many tools that would be right at home on a construction site such as: hammers, pruning shears, saws, pliers, wire cutters, levels, tape measures, and rulers. People often ask, “Why do cakes fall?” They fall because they were not built correctly. There is no short cut to experience.

Exquisite Detail Starting on the Easel

All beautiful cakes start with inspiration. Whether you love romantic, vintage, art deco, glamor, royal, modern, floral, whimsical, ribbons, jewels, lace, fabric, bright or monochromatic color, every style begins with an emotional connection. You see something and it moves you. It speaks to your style and sense of fashion. Bring your inspiration pieces with you to your Consultation and Tasting and I’ll transform it into your design on my full-sized easel. What is in your heart will come to life right before your eyes in splendid color and exquisite detail.

Details Nashville Your One Stop Shop! { By Adam Loeffler } Most wedding ceremonies last no more than 20 minutes. Everything a girl has dreamed about since she was 12 years old has to come together perfectly in less than half an hour. All the months of tedious preparation, and meeting after meeting with a dozen different vendors, all has to be perfectly in sync. There are no second chances! If you are planning a wedding you have likely already begun to sense the pressure associated with this momentous occasion – and it doesn’t have to be this way! Planning a wedding and enjoying your wedding day should not be remembered by how stressful it was. The butterflies and the nervous excitement about your big day should not revolve around whether or not the details will be in place, but about the commitment you are about to make to the person you love. Rather than worrying about whether the cake will be what you expected or whether the DJ will keep the atmosphere of your reception lively enough, you should be able to soak up every moment of the most important day of your life. At Details Nashville we are experienced in all things wedding. Whether it be engagement or wedding photography, capturing video of your special day, catering fresh and delicious food, coordinating all those involved in your wedding, providing DJs that can get people on their feet, playing live music, or designing creative invitations – Details Nashville is your one stop shop for all things wedding. Having to explain the vision for your wedding to a dozen different vendors can be an exhausting, painstaking process. At Details Nashville we can provide you with an experienced consultant that can sit with you and get an understanding of everything you hope to get out of your wedding day. We can then walk with you through planning this perfect day by providing you with all the options that fit within your preferences. Once you have decided on everything you want, we will do the work of bringing all the details together in a way that allows you to take in every wonderful moment!

Behind the Story

The Proposal: Chris popped the question in an amazing way! After a little more than a year of dating, Chris took a new job in Nashville, and I went half-way around the world to the Philippines to conduct marine biological research for my graduate degree. When I got back to the US, I came to TN to visit Chris after 5 months apart. He took me to the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga. He told me we had to go watch a special program with divers in one of the large marine tanks. When the divers got to the bottom of the tank they swam over and held up a sign that said “Kim will you marry Chris?” And then, Chris got down on one knee and made me the happiest girl in the world. Wedding Details: Right when I moved to Nashville, I went to the Pink Bridal Show. That was a huge help. It helped me to see what was available in the Nashville area and meet tons of potential vendors. That’s even where I met our amazing photographers!!! I also used some online planning tools for budget and keeping everything organized. Chris and I both love nature and to be outdoors. That is why the state park seemed like the perfect place for us to say “I do.” We didn’t have a specific theme; I just wanted things to be natural and woodsy. The most important thing to me while planning the wedding was that we kept the focus on the marriage – on Chris and I committing the rest of our lives to each other. I didn’t want it to just be about a day.

Surprise Engagement Shoot - Photography by Candice Jones Photography -

Thomas:

In high school I dated a few girls but for some reason or another, it just never worked out. I always wondered if I could ever love a girl so much I was willing to promise my life with her. There was a joke throughout my later years in high school amongst my friends about how if I ever wanted to date a girl beyond two weeks, I would marry her. I met Amber my senior year of high school while she was a sophomore. The only thing I knew about her at the time was that she was beautiful. I was sitting with my dad one night at a basketball game when Amber walked by. I remember she was wearing a brown shirt with ruffles and black dress pants with her hair curled. She looked amazing. My dad looked at me and said,” Son, you need to go after that girl”. I don’t think he knew that the idea had already crossed my mind. After that game was over, I went to Amber and asked if she wanted to join me and a few friends to eat. She was only fifteen at the time and her mother had not yet let her begin to date. Fortunate for me, her mom decided to let her go with a curfew of ten o’clock. After having a great time that night, I began asking her to come out with me and my friends more often. After taking Amber home for the third time, I decided I was going to try to kiss her. When I leaned in, she leaned in and that is where our relationship began in August of 2007. After dating each other for five years, we decided to get married shortly after her graduation. I knew I wanted to make the proposal special but I had no clue how I wanted to do it. All Amber asked for was that we be dressed up and for someone to be there to take pictures after the proposal. A photographer, Candice Jones, who happens to be a good friend, asked Amber if we would model for some engagement pictures, and the plan was born.

Amber: One day while at work, Candice came in and said she had gotten an ad in a bridal magazine and would like to use Thom and I as models. I told her I didn’t think it would be a problem, but I would talk to Thomas. On October 20, 2012 she sent me a message and just asked if she could use us as models on one of Thom’s days off. I told her yes that Thursday, October 25, 2012 would work best for us. I did not know at the time, I had just picked my own proposal day. When we got to the place of the shoot location, it was so perfect. The words, “This looks just like the bachelor when the guy proposes!” even came out of my mouth and I was totally clueless! I’m not sure how anyone kept a straight face! After a wardrobe change, Candice told Thomas to get down on one knee. I was unsure why he was looking at me while getting down on one knee, but then he pulled out the most beautiful 18k Tacori ring from Genesis Diamonds. It was only my dream ring being held by my dream man in a dream proposal! It couldn’t have been more perfect. And all the while Candice was getting so many great pictures! After the shoot, we went back to his house where about forty people were waiting to congratulate us. I couldn’t believe so many people had kept such a huge secret from me! The proposal was such a wonderful day, and I can’t wait until nearly six years from our first date in June 2013 I get to say “I do” to my soul mate!

Rebecca Gilley& Matthew Alexander PHOTOGRAPHY BY Candice Jones Photography

Rebecca Gilley & Matthew Alexander 06.30.12

Love Story: Matt and I have known each other since we were kids. In high school, we never hung out in the same crowds. Little did I know, he liked me the whole time in high school! In 2010, we met up again at a mutual friend’s birthday party, and I decided to find out if he was single. He happened to be, and the rest, as they say, is history. He later told me that he had been praying to God that He would put us together! Wedding Details: My vision and theme for the wedding was to be country chic. I feel like we accomplished that vision! My parents’ farm is where we decided to have the wedding and reception since there was a big yard, and the horses would be there. We also knew we would be able to invite more guests. My mother-in-law made the wooden signs to place around the ceremony, and we bought some whiskey barrels to use at the altar. We also used both of my grandfather’s old riding saddles to place at the altar as well. We used white pews for the family to sit on and had white chairs for the rest of the guests. A friend of ours built old wooden doors to look as if you were walking into an outdoor chapel. The centerpieces were simple, round wood pieces with a candle, grass, and a mason jar with wildflowers. Candles in mason jars lined the aisle. For the reception, I wanted to have a country-style meal, so we went with pulled pork, pinto beans, potatoes, turnip greens, and cornbread. There was a dessert bar with ice cream, blackberry cobbler, and banana pudding. Of course, we had the wedding cakes with vanilla and strawberry cake. The groom’s cake was shaped into a saddle on a hay bale that was chocolate inside. The biggest hit of the reception was the photo booth. Dancing and music was provided during the reception with mostly country songs. Wedding Day: The big day was the hottest day I think we had all summer. It happened to be 105 degrees! Luckily, the wedding was in the evening and had cooled down some. The day was full of nerves and excitement. Whenever Matt and the groomsmen were getting ready, they realized we did not have enough shirts for the guys. Luckily, my dad happened to have an extra white shirt that matched the guys’ shirts exactly!

Steps To The Best Wedding Celebration Ever

by Pink Lady Andrea

If you dream of throwing the wedding of the decade, plan an event that focuses on honoring your guests throughout the evening. Follow the ten great tips below to planning a celebration your guests with thank you for later – and talk about for years to come!

1. Welcome your guests in style.

Besides stepping into a cozy, clean hotel room after a long day driving or flying to your wedding location, give your guests fashionable treats to make them feel more at home – and welcome! Include everything from local snacks and bottled water to area maps and information on local attractions. They’ll love relaxing with these treats before the festivities!

2. Choose an interesting locale.

Get expressive with where you tie the knot. This can be anywhere from your local zoo to even a museum or gallery nearby. Don’t limit your celebration to traditional venues! Guests will love the unique characteristics of your day because of the one-of-a-kind feel of the location.

3. Keep guests comfortable.

If you’re having an outdoor celebration during summer months, install fans to keep guests cool, and consider fan programs as wedding favors. If it’s during the winter, install heaters to keep the space warm and serve warm drinks. Rest rooms should be nearby no matter where your event is, and you should keep a check on the air conditioning and heat if your venue is indoors. The point is to never let your guests become uncomfortable!

4. Involve them in the ceremony.

Kick off the ceremony with a signature beverage as guests arrive, and allow them to sip and chat before the processional begins. This is a surefire way to break the ice and drum up conversations that will last throughout the evening. Not sure what to serve? A cool, refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) during warm months would be great, and good, old-fashioned hot chocolate would be wonderful during the cooler months. You can also ask guests to give you advice for wedded bliss as you start your new life together.

5. The transition from ceremony to reception should be quick.

Let’s face it: if guests have to travel more than 30 minutes between your ceremony and reception site, or if they have to wait that long for your arrival to begin celebrating, they won’t really be in the partying mood by the time the reception starts. Choose venues that are near each other for your ceremony and reception, and cater your timeline to making sure your guests are entertained.

6. Let your guests make a grand entrance.

Treat them to a rock-star arrival by having each guest ushered into the reception hall with drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and lively music. This makes them feel like a true part of the celebration and sets a vibrant tone for the rest of the evening!

7. Keep them interested with a full itinerary.

The party should never hit a lull where guests sneakily start checking their watches. Make sure you’ve got plenty lined up for their entertainment by dispersing special dances, speeches, and toasts throughout the evening. Also consider having a photo booth near for guests to enjoy! Constantly change things up, rather than having long stretches of time with the same activity.

8. Food and beverages are the key to a great celebration.

People tend to chat more and feel more comfortable when food and drinks are involved, so make sure you foster that great sense of welcome and hospitality by ensuring that they always have something to snack on and drink throughout the evening. Ask your caterer to provide servers who will mingle with the guests, refreshing plates and drinks regularly.

9. Dance the night away with great entertainment. One of the biggest details of throwing the celebration of a lifetime depends upon your entertainment choice – meaning your band or DJ. This is so much more than just playing music! A professional band or DJ will be able to read the crowd and play music that will either get them up and dancing or relax them. If you want your guests talking about your celebration for years, put some work into finding the perfect entertainment choice!

10. Plan the after-party!

Give your more party-friendly crowd somewhere to take their dancing shoes after the big exit at the reception. Plan an after-party! This can be at a nearby locale, and food, beverages, and entertainment should be in ample supply. Just make sure that you have important numbers handy in case you need to call someone a cab or need to get in touch with someone fast!

HeyGrooms

Don’t Say This During Wedding Planning! “Sounds good, whatever you think.”

If it only mattered what your bride thought, than she wouldn’t take the time to ask you for an opinion. Contrary to popular culture, most brides desperately want their groom more involved with the wedding planning. While there will be some aspects that you have less of any opinion than others, it is important to not fall mute for a majority of the major decisions. After all, a wedding is the first step in your new life together, and I’m betting you want to have a say in that.

“How much?!”

Constant criticism of how much is being spent really takes the fun out of planning a wedding for all parties involved, particularly your bride. Instead, map out a budget that you can both agree on for the wedding so you both have a clear understanding of how much money is being spent where. Financial woes are the number-one precursor for divorce; start off on the right foot.

“I’m really whipped... I just want to chill. Can all this planning stuff wait?”

Let me clarify... grooms get a hall-pass on this statement a couple times. By the third, fourth, every time we ask for help and you respond with another excuse to postpone, our patience wears thin. Brides see a mountain of work ahead of them when it comes to all the details of a wedding. From decor to family drama to slimming down for our dream dress, we see our own sacrifice everywhere and need you to pitch in. After all, the wedding is for the both of us.

“Didn’t I mention that? I must have forgotten.”

It is important that both bride and groom are kept in each other’s loop regarding the wedding, guests’ travel plans and Mom’s sudden one-eighty considering her help with the rehearsal dinner. A wedding can be a logistical nightmare, and “forgetting” to mention vital details can derail a timeline and add a lot of undue stress to your bride. When you have new wedding information, make a point to share this with your fiancé, pronto. I’m betting there’s an app for that...

“This really doesn’t matter to me. I don’t want to help.”

Agreed, tying ribbons around hundreds of wedding programs or filling custom seed packets for favors may not be your cup of tea. But your bride is excited and loves the details that make your day personal and heartfelt, including those that are somewhat time-consuming. And when you love a person you do things that are not important to you because they matter to the person who matters most to you.

Brandi Petty & David Hightower 06.23.12

Brandi Petty & David Hightower

Love story: David and I had talked about getting married, but I wanted to wait until after we had been together at least one year. David didn’t want to wait. We always eat Chinese food on Wednesday nights. We had been dating one day short of one year, and I thought that night was going to be just another normal Wednesday night of eating Chinese food and watching TV. When it came time for us to open our fortune cookies, David handed me a certain one and said that one was mine. I opened the cookie and pulled out the fortune, which asked, “Will you marry me?” I looked over to find David down on one knee with a ring. It was the perfect proposal for us. David got his way because we were only a few hours short of being together for a year, but it was close enough for me. Wedding Details: We invited about 300 guests. We saved on doing a lot of the decorating ourselves. I would say the biggest splurge was photography. My mom wanted to be sure that we would have a great photographer who would capture all the big moments as well as the little details that might have been overlooked. At the end of it all, the pictures are one thing that we will always have to look back on to relive the day. We couldn’t have found a better photographer than Ann and Dawn of Forever Images. They not only were our photographers, but they also have grown into close friends that we love working with. I couldn’t be more pleased with their work. From our engagement pictures, to my bridal portraits, to the wedding day itself, all of our images are breathtaking. The storybook album that Ann does is absolutely amazing. I love showing it off to everyone. Our vision for the wedding was a country wedding. We had an outdoor ceremony, using the landscape as the backdrop. David liked the setting because it incorporated the fields and woods, which are his favorite places to be. Our guests took a wagon ride to the ceremony site and then back to the reception site. David and I arrived to the reception in a horse-drawn carriage. Instead of having a dance floor installed, we just marked off a large area with hay bales, which provided our guests a place to sit while they watched those on the dance floor. We also used mason jars for our guests to drink out of while at the reception. Our colors were brown and blue, which we showed off through the colors of our wedding party.

Alison Loope & Timothy Sherrod 08.11.12

Love Story: Timothy and I met when we were in elementary school, grew up together in the same small town, and went our separate ways after high school. Four years later, he ended up coming back to Tennessee and joining the ministry I was a part of. Our friendship was easy to ‘pick up where we left off,’ and we soon knew that it was God who brought us back together. We knew that we wanted to be married, raise a family together, and serve God with our lives. Wedding Day: Our wedding day was perfect! I loved how Details Nashville made an event that can be so stressful into one of the most memorable days of my life! My wedding party included members of our families – brothers, sisters, and their spouses, which was a special aspect to me. Tim and I also did our “first dance” to the Chris Brown song “Forever,” which provided lots of laughs for not only everyone watching, but also for us, as we are not the greatest dancers in the world.

Alison Loope & Timothy Sherrod

Wedding Details: We were engaged for 5 months, and I knew that I wanted Details Nashville to coordinate and plan my whole wedding from the start! I knew they would hear my hopes for the event and add their special touch to make it the memory that it became! I wanted the ceremony and reception to be relaxed. It was a summer night, and the people there were all my best friends! I didn’t want it to be solemn on any level. I wanted it to be a very happy time where people could celebrate with Tim and me. Our colors were purple and yellow. Advice: Have fun! Make it a memory! If you allow it to stress you out, then that’s what you’ll remember: a stressful event. Marriage has been so fun... I’m blessed to be married to my best friend for the rest of my life. A wedding should be a celebration of such a precious commitment!

Tuxedo ( Suit Styles for Each Body Type

by Pink Lady Andrea Make sure your man looks just as stunning as you do on your wedding day! Read on for style tips for each body type.

Height Tall

Body Type

Thin

Average

Bulky

Average Short

You can wear just about any style, but be aware of the lengths of jacket sleeves and pant legs. The shoulder pads in your jacket will add bulk without looking too boxy.

Ask your tuxedo specialist about the “fitted look,” which will highlight your trim physique, while the shoulder pads in the jacket will add just enough bulk to your look.

Avoid styles that seem to “hang” on your frame, and look for jackets with two or three buttons that begin lower, rather than higher. Your tuxedo specialist will tailor it to your physique so that you look your best.

Again, you can wear any style! Always watch the length on your jacket sleeves and pant legs.

Any style in any color will work for this physique. The most popular currently is the two-button notch lapel tuxedo in black.

Two low-sitting buttons on a jacket and a vest will elongate your frame.

If you are largest around your midsection, move away from cummerbunds, which draw attention to this area. Consider the more popular option instead – a vest! Go for a onebutton jacket, and streamline your look by avoiding thick, layered materials. Choose a long tie rather than bow tie as well.

Again, if you are largest around the middle, avoid the cummerbund. A vest will draw the eye up, rather than to any bulk you may have in the midsection. A one-button jacket works for this body type. Long ties work best for this frame, rather than bow ties.

Do not go for thick fabrics that add to your size. Look for a jacket with one button that sits low. Opt out of the cummerbund and choose a vest instead. This makes you seem taller and slimmer. Opt for a long tie, rather than bow tie.

Reader Q&A:

Local grooms ask formalwear questions!

Q : “Some jackets have so many buttons. Do I have to button them all?” Evan - Knoxville, TN A : Buttoning only the top button of your jacket is considered appropriate. Q : “What button count works best?” Alex - Oak Ridge, TN A : Generally, jackets with one button work best with bulkier physiques, two buttons look good on average body types, and two or more buttons work for taller people.

Q : “Does it matter who does the alterations on my tuxedo or suit?” Carl - Farragut, TN A : Absolutely. Similar to having a wedding dress altered, not having a professional alter a tuxedo or suit can literally butcher the final product. Choose a reputable shop for your wedding day needs!

Q : “How do I know the difference between a tuxedo and a suit?” Julius - Knoxville, TN A : A tuxedo will have the presence of satin on the lapels, buttons, pockets, and in a stripe down the pant leg. A suit does not have satin components and normally has plastic buttons.

Ashley Dobbs & Allen Vantrease 09.15.12

Ashley Dobbs & Allen Vantrease

Wedding Details: Allen and I were engaged for about ten and a half months. Allen was in his last semester of medical school and I was in my final semester of nursing school, so we really had to use our time wisely. We would have periods of time, like during our winter break, where we got a lot done, and then we would put everything on hold for a few months. I credit my mom as pretty much being my wedding planner. She helped me make almost every decision, and even met with some of our wedding vendors while I was away at school. One of the most helpful things we did was going to bridal shows, like the Pink Bridal Show in Nashville. We got tons of great ideas there and booked some of our vendors there. They even ran specials and we were able to get bridal show discounts. Our vendors were also a big help in the planning process. Our photographer was the first thing we booked. They gave us TONS of help along the way recommending other vendors, telling us tips on ways to make the wedding more personal, and even giving us money saving ideas! We also used them for some rentals and our photobooth. Since they are in the wedding business, wedding vendors can be a wealth of information! We also hired a day-of coordinator who helped set up and made sure everything ran smoothly during the day. She made a schedule for all our vendors and took care of any last minutes things that came up. The most important thing to us was that our guests had a great time. We wanted the ceremony to be more traditional to emphasize how sacred the vows we were taking were. But we wanted the reception to be a big party--celebrating with all our family and friends. The vision or theme for our wedding was timeless elegance. We wanted a vintage feeling, but without it being too trendy. We decided to aim to use elements with a classic feel that could be in any time period. I remember seeing my mom’s wedding pictures and thinking everything was so eighties. I didn’t want our wedding to be so dated. We used wrought iron lanterns and candlebras throughout the venue. We also used low lighting, and candles marked the aisleway. The dark wood of the venue and the evening start time gave the whole setting a very romantic feel. We bought the lanterns at old time pottery and used them as centerpieces. We also got a wooden ladder from a flea market which we used to display fresh flowers, candles, and pictures of us. My mom also made chair covers out of burlap that said ‘Mr. Right’ and ‘Mrs. Always Right’. Our colors were burgundy and eggplant (dark red and dark purple), ivory, and champagne.

Kasey Wisniowski & Derrick Norris 08.04.12

Love story: On May 12, 2011, Derrick drove down to Jackson, TN, to have lunch with my mom. While at lunch, Derrick asked my mom if he could marry me and showed her the ring he had bought in April. My mom agreed to allow him to marry me, and gave him the center stone from her engagement ring that my dad had given her. When we went on vacation in August 2011, we went to my favorite lighthouse, where Derrick planned to propose. When we got there, they had a kid’s fun run in full swing, and while we were overlooking the lighthouse, and Derrick was planning for the perfect moment, the Star Spangled Banner began to play. After it ended, Derrick got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Before he got all the way to the ground and got the words out, I was already saying yes!

Kasey Wisniowski & Derrick Norris

Wedding Details: We were engaged for almost one year exactly, and we absolutely enjoyed the wedding planning process. My mother also helped to plan my brother’s wedding in the two years before ours, so she was very helpful with a timeline and planning the details. The most important thing for us about our wedding was that it was all about us and our love that day, and that it was about us becoming one partnership. Our colors were red and purple, and they went together so well. We also included double hearts as a theme in our decor. We had floating candles in our centerpieces, a unity candle, and the memorial candles for our family members. We had red and purple incorporated into our entire reception with purple uplights and red decorations in the centerpieces. We also had the bridesmaids in purple and the groomsmen in red. Wedding Day: Our wedding day was absolutely amazing! We had the best weather, and it was sunny and bright for most of the day. There was one rain shower during pictures, but it was the most beautiful day. Getting to marry each other was the best thing that happened that day. Everything that happened was planned for and went off without a hitch. That was all we could have asked for. The only thing missing from our wedding day that was the hardest to deal with was that both of our fathers had passed away and were not able to be a physical part of the day. We had the most perfect wedding day!

EmmieYoung & David Brown PHOTOGRAPHY BY Ace Photography

Emmie Young & David Brown 08.31.12

memorable moment: One of our most memorable moments was at the end of the night when we asked Alycia and Zack (Dave’s sister and her boyfriend) to come to the microphone and once again perform the duet that they had written for our ceremony. They sang it so well together. Then at the end of the song, they moved into a Medley of Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” –which was the song that we had our first dance to. At that moment, everyone at the wedding spontaneously broke into song singing “I’m Yours.” It was really cool. Wedding Details: Our ceremony itself was completely us. We decided to have Dave’s dad marry us. He was nervous because he had never performed a wedding ceremony and this was the marriage of his first-born child. But, it was so touching and personal and meant so much more than having someone who barely knew us perform such an important ceremony. Together with Dave’s dad we wrote every word in our ceremony to be completely and uniquely us. We are really into wine, so we had 2 ceremonies within our wedding ceremony that showed that passion. We did a wine ceremony where we combined a white and a red wine to make a rose and drank from the same cup as a symbol of our unity. We had a wine box ceremony where we nailed love letters and a bottle of La Crema 9 Barrel (our favorite) inside, so that we have a wedding time capsule we can open on our 5-year anniversary. We wrote our own vows and read them to each other while we fought back the tears. My dog is really one of my best friends, so he was a “bridesdog” in the wedding. Our guests were all standing around us in the barn during the whole ceremony making it super intimate and personal. And, at the end of the ceremony, Dave’s little sis and her boyfriend (who proposed to her a few days later) performed a song called “I Do” that they had written just for us. Everything about the ceremony was so personal and special. The rest of our wedding also had so many personal touches. Here are a few that we love: 1. Dave and I spent the 4 years leading up to our marriage on the road as part of our work in the sales training industry. We literally lived in 12 different cities in 4 years. Our wedding invitation was a map that showed this journey around the country with us ending in Nashville, our new home. On a card that sat on each table we had written one of our favorite stories from our time together in one of those cities. We had maps that traced this journey and vintage suitcases to complete the theme. 2. Our wedding happened to be on the night of a blue moon with the next blue moon happening 3 years later. So to celebrate this, we served moon pies and had an image of a giant blue moon on the ceiling.

Cassie Parsley & Andrew Russell

Cassie Parsley & Andrew Russell 07.07.12 The Proposal: Drew and I were going for a walk on the beach in Panama City, Florida, and it was almost sunset. This was nothing new. We took lots of walks this week on the beach. Drew kept walking further away from our resort to a quiet spot on the beach, when he just stood behind me with his arms around me, watching the water. He began talking about our life together from the past and possibly the future. At that point, he pulled out a key to the house he had bought a month before. I was so excited to get a house key! We turned back to watching the waves crash in and the sun setting when I felt Drew’s arms move away from me. I just thought he was ready to walk back. When I turned around, there he was, on one knee, telling me he loved me and asking me to marry him. I was so excited that we cried with happiness and could not wait to tell our family and friends! It was the most amazing proposal I could have ever asked for!

Behind the Story

Wedding Details: We were engaged for 13 months. We went to several bridal shows and got great ideas. We just looked online at different wedding websites and took notes of what we wanted for our wedding. When we started a project, we would keep track in a binder. I would have to say the most important thing to me about my wedding was that I would get to spend the rest of my life with my best friend. The vision for our wedding was for a fun and elegant celebration at the same time. Our colors were Malibu and Coral. I wanted to have bright colors for the summer time. Wedding Advice: Get a photographer that will capture everything. Our photographer was with us from 8 am to late at night. She was amazing and captured moments that only pictures can tell how we felt. She was everywhere. She did an excellent job. We had so many guests who told us that our photographer was everywhere in church, and she was never in the way of their view. To me, that was so nice to hear. I can remember seeing her in one spot, then she was in another. We have so many great pictures that it’s hard to choose. I would splurge on a photographer! It will be well worth it, and then you will have many pictures to remind you of your big day.

April Kim & Vujo Joksimovic 10.13.12 Love Story: Vujo and I met when we were out and about one night in Atlanta. On our first date, we talked for 4 hours straight, and it seemed like time had just stopped, so that’s when I knew he was “the one.” We love traveling, so when we were on one of our trips to Costa Rica, he surprised me and proposed!

April Kim & Vujo Joksimovic

Wedding Details: Since I was born and raised in Nashville, my parents wanted me to have the wedding there. However, I moved to Atlanta about 10 years ago, so I was worried about how I would plan a wedding from Atlanta in 3 months! We Googled “bridal shows in Nashville” and attended the Pink Bridal Show, where we booked most of our vendors that day! I love bright colors, so my colors were hot pink, black, and white. Whenever I told people this, they gave me a funny look. My wedding was in October, so I guess it didn’t go with the fall theme I was supposed to have! I had my girls wear hot pink dresses, and the boys wore hot pink vests and ties. I didn’t care because the pictures turned out awesome! I even had bright blue shoes as my something blue. I am Korean, and my husband is Croatian, so I wanted to incorporate our cultures in the wedding somehow. We chose to have a Korean buffet for dinner, and we provided Croatian brandy. Big Day: Once the big day arrived, it went by so fast! I was scared how everything would turn out, but when I opened the door to walk down the aisle, everything looked perfect! One of the most memorable moments from our big day was when we broke out in Gangnam Style right after our first dance. It was a great way to start the reception! An unexpected thing that happened was that we had to change venues three weeks before our big day. Lucky for us, we found another venue and everything turned out beautiful! The most important thing to me was that everyone would have a great time while celebrating our special day with us!

Wedding DressforStyles each body type Your wedding day is about celebrating the beginning of an exciting new chapter in your life, so be sure to wear the dress of your dreams for the occasion! Discover the best style suggestions for your body type here.

by Pink Lady Andrea

Body Type

Gown Suggestion

Straight-Figured

Try a mermaid or trumpet silhouette. Both help you seem curvier and make your bust and hips look more proportioned. If you really enjoy the idea of a ball gown, try that too! It will capitalize on your small waist and create a more pronounced hip.

Plus-Sized

Find a dress with an open neckline – ideally a strapless sweetheart. Do not opt for sleeves or a cover over your arms. Look for a dress with ruching that comes to a point, as this separates the bust and the hip perfectly.

Small Bust

Look for a gown with a sweetheart neckline and ruching at the top. This creates volume where you need it most.

Busty

Play down your bust by avoiding straight necklines. Rather, choose a sweetheart neckline or a scooped neckline. Opt for a modified A-line dress with beads and detailing further down the dress to avoid drawing more attention up top.

Tall

Seek a design with minimal frills that accents your long lines. An Empire dress can do just that. The dress will pull in right at or just below your natural waist.

Short

The fit and flair cut with a sweetheart neckline will be flattering on you. Keep in mind while shopping that a higher waist creates the illusion of a longer torso. Embellishments are great for this body type, but they should be small and clustered mainly at the top of the dress.

Pear Shape

A gown with thick straps or a one-shoulder look will help pull the eye away from your hips. A flowing gown with a natural waist will also help conceal this area.

Apple Shape

Seek out dresses with lots of ruching all over to create shape. A V-neck is slimming and draws the eye up, rather than across, too.

No matter what dress style you choose in the end, all that matters is how you feel in it. Keep an open mind to conflicting opinions, but do not let yourself lose focus in the midst of them. Your opinion matters most! Follow your professional’s suggestions as you try on different styles, and ultimately choose the dress you feel the most beautiful and confident in as you look in the mirror. Regardless of your body type, if you are happy and confident on your wedding day, you will be gorgeous!

Erin Mangrum & Reja Ferdowsi

Erin Mangrum & Reja Ferdowsi 09.15.12

Behind the Story

Love story: Reja lived in Nashville Tennessee and Erin lived in Jackson Tennessee. Erin worked for a dental office in Jackson and her boss lived in Murfreesboro. She asked Erin to come visit Nashville several weekends. One weekend while visiting Nashville she was introduced to Reja. Reja continued to call Erin and ask her on dates. Erin was hesitant at first but finally said yes. Several months later she moved to Nashville and transferred to another dental practice. Wedding Details: We agreed on Tiffany Blue & White as our theme colors. Tiffany Wedding as our Theme. Modern and Elegant feel for the wedding. At the reception we wanted italian lights over the tables. Candles to be around and in the pool. Flowers to be floating in the pool. The most important thing of our wedding was that Reja and I planned every part of it on our own. We had everything we wanted from colors, food, family, friends, and fun! Our parents made suggestions on what they would like to have at the wedding and we listened but Reja and I did the wedding and reception the way we wanted to do so. Wedding Day: During the cocktail hour Reja, Erin, Neda, Lily Reja’s mother and photographer went to the grandmothers house to suprise her since she was unable to attend the ceremony.

Photographer Ned Siriyutwatana from Focal Expressions by Ned

Dinner was followed by taking pictures in the photo booth, dancing, and entertaining with guest. Guest lined the driveway with wedding sparklers to say goodbye to Reja and I. We were then all suprised with a 3 minute firework show as we were leaving the reception. The fireworks were gorgeous and as big as 4th of July fireworks. They lit up Cool Springs/ Franklin.

Molly Hallaron & Bryan Dejanovich 10.12.12

Molly Hallaron & Bryan Dejanovich

The Proposal: Bryan planned a Caribbean cruise in December of 2011. His family was also taking the trip. My family lived in Florida, where the cruise was scheduled to depart. We decided to drive down to Florida and spend time with my family. I am very traditional, and Bryan knew it was important to ask my father for my hand in marriage. Bryan was able to talk to my father discreetly, and he gave Bryan the “yes” he needed. Right when we got on the boat and found our room, Bryan pulled out a special photo book he made with many pictures we have taken together. I still didn’t have an idea this was the big proposal as Bryan said, “I just wanted to do something special for you.” On the final page, there was a picture of the ring and it said, “This is the day your whole life changes forever. Will you marry me?” My answer was YES! I cried with excitement. His sister had champagne delivered to the room, and we celebrated! I quickly ran to the deck while I could still get phone service and called my parents and some close friends to share the news before the cruise departed! The cruise was one we will remember forever, and it could not have been more perfect! Wedding Details: The overall vision for our wedding was romantic and vintage with a touch of Nashville. It was considered a destination wedding, as most of our guest came from several different states to celebrate our day with us. The venue we chose was the perfect place to get married for so many reasons. It has a romantic and vintage feel right when you drive in. The witness tree is amazing, and there is no better place in Nashville to get married than in front of this beautiful tree. Our names for our centerpieces came from famous landmarks in Nashville and Franklin. Our guestbook was also a book about Nashville, and each guest signed the front and end of the book. Our flowers and centerpieces were amazing. They included pops of color but all had a romantic and vintage feel. I loved that each of our centerpieces was different. Our florist incorporated lanterns, bark vases, Cinderella pumpkins, and candles. Our main colors included ivory and eggplant. Our flowers carried our pop of colors, which were orange, green, and purple. Our wedding day was brought together perfectly, and I could not have been more thrilled. The day was perfect.

Debra Pate & TimothyRector

Debra Pate & Timothy Rector 10.05.12 Love Story: I was a paralegal student in a law class Tim was teaching. We soon discovered that we both had daughters graduating from the same high school. A friendship developed while discussing our children and all of the plans for their futures. We soon came to learn that we had many things in common. Once I was no longer in his class, we began dating. He told me shortly after our second date that he planned to marry me. I was deeply in love and knew he was the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. Tim then surprised me by booking the trip of my dreams: a cruise to Egypt, Israel, Greece, and Italy. We decided to make it our honeymoon, which allowed me only six weeks to plan a wedding. Thank God for an excellent wedding planner. Wedding Details: We were engaged about eight weeks and the most important thing for me was to have a stress-free wedding. I really wanted to enjoy the experience and be able to reflect on what brought us to this day and what was about to become. Having a wedding planner allowed me to focus on this. Since I only had six weeks to plan, I took every suggestion the planner offered. We wanted a nice, yet comfortable wedding that our guest would enjoy. We were looking for everyone to have fun with great food and music. My daughters, who were my bridesmaids, wore taupe knee-length dresses. My son, who gave me away, as well as Tim and Tim’s brother (the best man), wore dark suits. The chapel was decorated with cream roses and greenery. Wedding Day: The wedding day was perfect. Perhaps it was the fact that this was my second time around, and I knew I had found my perfect mate, or the reassurance I felt from having a wedding planner over see and orchestrate everything. The most memorable moment was the minute when I spotted Tim in the chapel. From that moment on, I saw no one else. I felt such a feeling of certainty. Tim reciting his vows definitely made everyone laugh. The fact that he made a blunder out of every line was not something he or I planned for, but is not something I would change. We will laugh about this for many years.

Anna Billa & Michael Rhea 06.23.12

The Proposal: Ultimately, he spoke with my father about marrying me (unbeknownst to me) when we were visiting my family for Christmas – on World War II battleship in Fall River, Massachusetts. A week later, he wrapped up the ring in a big box for my birthday, which is also New Year’s Eve. He saved that gift for last, and it was such a big box that I was starting to feel disappointed, thinking it wouldn’t happen after all. When I opened the box, he had the ring strung on a red satin ribbon draped over a framed collection of photographs of the two of us (hence the big box). Of course, I said yes. We then went out for our New Year’s Eve and birthday dinner reservations at the Sunset Grille in Nashville, where he had ordered a large bouquet of red roses with a card that said, “I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”

Anna Billa & Michael Rhea

Wedding details: I wanted a wedding that was simple and rustic without being too rustic, with a Nashville country flare. I knew a dusty blue would be the base color, although I explored other colors – but I always came back to this dusty shade of blue. Like much of our wedding, our theme came together serendipitously; shades of blue and beige led us to the exact shade with beige as our second color, which worked beautifully with the dresses for my bridesmaids. Caprice of Enchanted Florist pulled it all together by designing gorgeous flower arrangements that were both simple yet eyecatching. She put together a display of honey-suckle and ivy that draped over the altar, with mason jars hanging from it by ribbons and small bouquets that matched the rest of the flowers in the jars. All of our bouquets were soft without being too wild. It turned out to be a perfect mix of what we wanted. We had an activity table where our family and friends could write us notes (memories and advice). The parts of this table, along with our seating chart, were lettered by the bride’s uncle, who is a freelance artist and sign-maker. One year at Christmas when I was very little, my uncle created a fantasy animal called the Porsibau, which looks like a bird with very thin legs and spotted wings. He made my family an ornament with a Porsibau on it that we still put on our tree every year, and Jim and I joke about it every year. So, for our wedding, Jim tucked little Porsibau drawings into the corners of everything he made – the directions for the activity table, the guest book, and photos we had on display. It’s been fun to go through everything since the wedding and find new little Porsibaus that I hadn’t seen before!

Sparkling… Modern… Inspired… LikeYou. Both Amelia and Justin are accountants with master’s degrees from Vanderbilt University’s Owen School of Management, where they first met. Amelia had strong ideas of what she wanted for her wedding. The colors aubergine, copper, and ivory were chosen to reflect fall without going the traditional route of brown and orange. The ceremony was held downtown at the historic, Christ Church Cathedral with a traditional Episcopalian service including the liturgical procession. The Noah Liff Opera Center yielded itself to a traditional cocktail hour with a pianist, followed by a classic reception decorated with damask ivory linens, oak leaf-themed centerpieces, enhanced dramatic lighting, and sophisticated jazz music. A very unique aspect of our ceremony was using an old Anglican tradition of the flower girls ringing bells as they preceded the bride down the aisle. The church was beautiful with its stained glass windows, the beautiful music played by the wonderfully adept organist, and the floral decorations. On top of this, we found great joy from the sessions with our officiate leading up to the big day and the understanding of the liturgy provided prior to the ceremony. Photography was extremely important to us, and we could not be happier with who we chose. He captured image after perfect image, and we enjoyed getting to know him while working together. I am delighted to have such amazing work to enjoy the rest of my life. The Noah Liff Opera Center was the perfect location for our reception. I loved the combination of modern design, glass, and chandeliers without having to fight a “vintage” or “industrial” look. The space is perfectly set up for receptions, and we loved the flexibility of the space. We could be as creative as we liked! We incorporated the acorn as a nod to Vanderbilt and where we met. A cigar bar was a fun piece for one of the groom’s favorite past times, and our shared love of coffee was represented in the coffee bar, served with dessert. The groom surprised his bride with an a capella quintet – of which he took part! We loved working with Sarah Willard with Music City Events. She was exactly what we needed to help us carry out our ideas and add her own expertise to inspire new ones! With her help, we were able to confidently choose wedding professionals that would understand our values and dreams. She was with us at so many meetings and was everywhere on the wedding day, taking care of all the set up and details. I was fully able to relax and enjoy the day with my best friends and family.

Jacqueline Sullivan & Christopher Tingle 06.09.12 Love Story: It became clear to Chris at some point during their March 2011 trip to Italy that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Jackie. With that in mind, he came back to the States with marriage on his mind. However, since Chris really likes to plan things, it would be another couple of months before he would propose to Jackie. Starting in June of that year, they were playing on a summer league frisbee team together on Wednesday nights. One Wednesday night, Chris told Jackie that he could not make the game because he had a work dinner, and since Jackie is fairly gullible, she believed him. However, as she would later find out, Chris had actually been to see Jackie’s parents to discuss marrying Jackie. Though Chris was quite nervous, the Sullivans politely gave him their blessing. One lovely Sunday in June of 2011, Chris picked Jackie up from her house and took her to Percy Warner Park for a hike. What Jackie didn’t know was that this hike would lead to her engagement to a guy that occasionally gets really bad haircuts. At the top of Luke Lea Heights in Percy Warner Park, Chris showed Jackie a video our friends helped him make and proposed. Fortunately, her answer was yes, because Jackie’s parents and friends were waiting at the bottom of the hike for a surprise picnic.

Wedding Day: My favorite thing about the wedding was that both of our families were able to stay at the bed and breakfast on site all weekend. It made the whole day very relaxing and enjoyable. Everyone came in to Legacy Farms for rehearsal and rehearsal dinner on Friday night, and both families along with the maid of honor and best man stayed that night. It was incredible to be able to wake up already at the wedding and reception site and just hang out with my family and friends until it was time to get ready. It completely took away the stress of having to be different places on time or pick stuff up last minute. The only hiccup in the event came from our best man who tried to sneak in the reception hall and nab a bottle wine while practicing his speech with the maid of honor after the rehearsal dinner. They set off the building alarm and got reprimanded by the site manager, but this was more hilarious than anything else. Wedding details: It seemed very fitting for us to have an outdoor wedding since Chris and I both enjoy spending a lot of time outside, but that was really the only vision we had going into the wedding planning process. I picked out gray as the color for bridesmaid dresses since it was a neutral color and I had no idea of color schemes for flowers or decor yet. We ended up with gray and yellow for wedding colors since I really like sunflowers. I think it ended up being very bright, happy, and simple.

Making wedding cakes is more than baking and frosting cakes -- it is art that tells a story. When I design a wedding cake, I take ideas, colors, impressions, style, taste, and even beliefs from my brides and grooms to individualize their wedding celebration in cake. Of course, some grooms love to see their alma mater, a tractor, a hobby such as chess, or even a favorite hat made from cake. I am committed to the freshest, most high-quality ingredients for both my cakes and icings.
