DELORES JEAN DOBSON

TIMOTHY P. BRETTIN

KNOX, IN - Timothy P. Brettin, 82, died Saturday, May 4, 2024, at his home. He was born February 26, 1942, in La Porte, Indiana, tot he late Edward Brettin Sr. and Nora (McBride) Brettin. On August 25,1962, he married Peggy Marks.

Tim was a veteran of the US Army, serving post war during the Berlin Crisis in Germany. He was very involved with his community and various community organizations which included: member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Judson, Indiana, Starke County Historical Society, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, where he was Congregational Chairman and Sunday School Teacher, long time Bass Lake Lions member, International Lions, Melvin Jones Fellow Distinguished Service Award recipient, Treasurer of the Starke County Republican Party and Washington Township Volunteer firefighter. He retired from Bethlehem Steel as an Electrical Supervisor/ Foreman. He was also a member of a Laborers for Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy, four sons: Timothy P. (Ritta) Brettin II of Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, Scott D. Brettin of Troutman, North Carolina, Keith A. (Valarie) Brettin of Mooresville, North Carolina and Michael S. Brettin of Valparaiso, Indiana, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jessica, six brothers: Edward Brettin Jr., Francis “Bill” Brettin, James Brettin, John Brettin Sr., Richard “Dick” Brettin Sr. and Matthew Brettin and one sister, Margaret “Marge” Schuster.

Services were held Friday, May 10, at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Bass Lake Lutheran Cemetery in Knox. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bass Lake Lions Club or the St. Peter Lutheran School.

Arrangements were made by M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox.

HOLLY NOEL

RUSSELL

KNOX, IN - Holly Noel Russell, 31, died Tuesday, May 7, 2024, in Knox, Indiana. She was born December 11, 1992, in Winamac, Indiana, to Kevin and Andrea (Rayburn) Surma. On November 25, 2018, in Knox, she married Billy Russell.

Holly was a teacher at John Glenn Elementary School. She enjoyed reading, playing Pokemon, Painting, traveling, especially to Las Vegas, going out to eat, singing karaoke and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Billy, her parents, Kevin and Andrea Surma, two sisters: Rebecca Surma and Ashley (Chance) Heims, all of North Judson, Indiana and her grandfather, Roger (Mary) Rayburn of Herndon, Virginia.

Friends will be received from 4-8pm, Wednesday, May 15, at the Braman & Bailey Funeral Home with services beginning at 6pm, with Rev. Bruce Bennett officiating. Memorials may be made to the Starke County Humane Society.

Arrangements were made by Braman & Bailey Funeral Home in North Judson.

JESSE LEE SCUTCHFIELD

ROLLING PRAIRIE, IN - FORMERLY OF NORTH JUDSON, IN - Jesse Lee Scutchfield, 53, died Sunday, April 21, 2024, after a brief but hard fought battle with cancer. He was born December 22, 1970, to Alexia “Sis” (Grzymalski) and James Scutchfield. Jesse was a 1989 graduate of North Judson-San Pierre High School. He dabbled in college at Purdue University and Columbia College in Chicago, Illinois. He also trained in the Carpenter’s Union 215 Apprenticeship Program in Lafayette. He was a man of many talents: accomplished musician and performer, skilled carpenter, great cook, motor head and great family man. Jesse also taught guitar and bass throughout the years at Roxy Music in La Porte, Indiana. He was co founder and member of the local band, Jr. and the Igniters, for over 30 years. He also more recently played with the band, Lomax Station and on his own as Jesse Lee. Jesse enjoyed spending time with his family and friends traveling, camping, telling stories, playing games, playing music and enjoying a cold beer or three. He is survived by his wife, Monika “Moni” (Goetz), three children: James, Abigail and Keiara, one grandson, his mother, Alexia “Sis”, one brother, Joel (Jill) Scutchfield and one sister, Jodi (Mark) Thyen. He was preceded in death by his father, James.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 17, from 3-6, with a 6pm memorial service following at the O’Donnell Funeral Home. A benefit for the family with food, music and raffles will be held on Saturday, May 18, at the North Judson American Legion Post 92 beginning at 2pm.

Arrangements were made by O’Donnell Funeral Home, Inc. in North Judson.

SUELINDA JEAN

LEE

NORTH JUDSON, IN - Suelinda Jean Lee, 53, died Sunday, May 5, 2024, in Valparaiso, Indiana. She was born February 6, 1971, to the late Landin Minix and Louise (Woods) Minix. On July 3, 2001, in Aldine, Indiana, she married Warren Medford Lee.

Suelinda enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, playing games, coloring, watching her favorite TV shows, classic fast cars, collecting clowns, cows and sugar skulls and helping out anyone she could.

She is survived by her husband, Warren, her step son, John Lee, and three brothers: John (Lori) Minix, Landin Minix and Jack (Barb) Minix. She was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Minix, and grandparents: Olive (Conley) Tunis, Herbert Woods, Carl Tunis, Jim Minix and May (Lovely) Minix.

Services were held Saturday, May 11, at the O’Donnell Funeral Home.

Arrangements were made by O’Donnell Funeral Home, Inc. in North Judson.

SHERYL LUCILLE ROLLER

NORTH JUDSON, IN - Sheryl Lucille Roller, 77, died Tuesday, May 7, 2024. She was born June 3, 1946, in Lomax, Indiana, to the late Agnes Trinoskey and Delta Hickman. On June 15, 1963, she married William Roller.

Sheryl loved her family more than anything. She enjoyed family gatherings attending her kids and grandkids events and games, playing pinochle, bowling, cooking and scrap booking.

She is survived by four children: Shelly (Michael) Stoll, Michael (Patricia) Roller, Karen Roller and Traci (Jeramie) Graf, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and one sister, Joyce Chesak. She was preceded in death by her husband, William and siblings: Emery Hickman, Katherine Bau, Dale Hickman and Melvin Hickman.

Services were held Monday, May 13, at the O’Donnell Funeral Home. Burial was in the San Pierre Cemetery in San Pierre, Indiana. Arrangements were made by O’Donnell Funeral Home, Inc. in North Judson.

DELORES ANN SCHUTTROW

RENSSELAER, IN - FORMERLY OF FRANCESVILLE, IN - Delores Ann Schuttrow, 81, died at 4am, Friday, May 10, 2024, at Franciscan Health Hospital of Lafayette, Indiana. She was born September 11, 1942, in Rensselaer, Indiana, to the late Herman Cecil and Florence Caroline (Calhoun) Gustin. On June 15, 1968, in Medaryville, Indiana, she married Charles J. Schuttrow. He died on June 18, 2010.

Delores was a 1960 graduate of Francesville High School. After graduation, she had worked at Ryden Insurance Agency of Medaryville as a bookkeeper and policy writer. She worked at the former Saint Joseph’s College of Rensselaer in the Public Information Department. Growing up, she played piano at the United Methodist Church of Francesville and taught Sunday School for 44 years at Methodist Churches. She was a member of the Richland Center United Methodist Church of Richland Center, Indiana and a member of the General Van Rensselaer Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Fuller Society, Rev. John Corbly Association and the Indiana Chapter of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. She enjoyed visiting the Eastern United States to see where her ancestors first arrived, visiting relatives, spending time with her pets, working her flower beds, various crafts including working on projects for the Winamac High School Music and Drama Departments. She is survived by one son, Patrick C. Schuttrow of Winamac and the Honegger family.

Services were held Tuesday, May 14, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, with Pastor Steve Hartman officiating. Burial was in the Roseland Cemetery in Francesville. Memorial contributions may be made (to the Winamac Music Boosters) to purchase a memorial bench to be placed near the Winamac High School Auditorium.

Arrangements were made by Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville.

Delores Jean Dobson, 85, of Winamac, IN went home to be with the Lord Thursday, May 9, 2024. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Jean was born on April 16, 1939 in Royalton, KY to the late James and Ellar [Stepp] Howard. On December 18, 1954, she married the love of her life, James G. Dobson. They were the proud parents of four children, Bill, Don, Brenda and Steve. Jean and Jim shared a love for gospel music. They enjoyed hosting /entertaining friends and family. Jim passed away on August 10, 2010 after 55 years of marriage.

Jean was a member of the Wheatfield Pentecostal Church. She lived to serve the Lord and did so quietly and humbly. Jean was a proud homemaker who loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Throughout the years, she enjoyed bowling, golfing, and playing cards. Most of all, Jean enjoyed spending time with her family.
