Riniker sisters crowned Buchanan County Fair royalty Amanda Riniker was crowned Buchanan County Fair Queen at the annual coronation ceremony. An East Buchanan graduate, Amanda attends Wartburg College, majoring in Neuroscience. Amanda’s twin sister, Alyssa, also received royalty honors as she was named Princess and Miss Congeniality. Alyssa recently completed a year at Luther College and this fall will attend the University of Iowa to study pre-pharmacy. The young women are the daughters of Bruce and Jeanette Riniker of Winthrop. Quasqueton City Council Meeting July 11 2016 The monthly City Council Meeting was called to order by Mayor Chad Staton at 7pm on July 11th, 2016. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and roll call was taken. Council members in attendance were Terry and Bill Kress, Ben Stanford and Jeff Werling, Shelia Payne was absent. Others attending meeting were Cody Kimball representing the Fire Station, Scott Cooksley, Attorney Jim Peters, Public Works Jay Sandberg and City Clerk Anita Arnold. Unless otherwise stated all motions were unanimous. There was no open forum due to any citizens being present. A motion was made by Stanford and second by Bill to approve previous minutes. Alliant Energy and Advanced Systems bill were added to existing ones, motion by Stanford and second by Werling for approval. A motion was made by Bill and second by Werling to approve Law Enforcement Report. A motion was made by Stanford and second by Werling to approve Quasky Mart Liquor license. Mayor advised council that nuisance on 2nd Street had been corrected, but still working on drainage issue. Clerk has been asked to send final warning notice to other existing nuisance. Council discussed rental properties in regards to utilities not being paid. A motion was made by Werling and second by Terry to approve Resolution 16-16 (Street Closure for Annual Fish Fry). Council members discussed campground area, maybe moving playground equipment to different area. Cooksley stated that he would like to prohibit citizens from having bottles on the river and in camping area. He stated that would talk to DNR about bottle issue. A motion was made by Stanford and seconded by Terry to give Cooksley a $25 a week raise due to additional land acquired for upkeep.
