YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! There is a prison not far from Monsey that houses several female prisoners that are Jewish. The walls of Bedford Hills Correctional Facility witnesses the pain of these women 365 days a year. The women are cold in the winter, and hungry- oh so hungry! For those that keep kosher, the hunger follows them at every turn. But even more than the hunger for food, is the hunger for a visitor. Many of these women see only the prison walls day in and day out. Volunteers from Monsey and Mt. Kisco infuse life

into these women, but the volunteers are few and far between. If you feel that you could bring new light into the life of these women, either by sending warm items of clothing, food to supplement their meager kosher diet, or by visiting them- please contact Chanie Lederer 845-426-1463. Even simple items like soap, shampoo, sneakers, or a letter mean so much to these women. You can make a difference!

MILES FOR LIFE I would like to thank The Monsey View for featuring an article about the amazing organization, Kanfei Chayim. Reading about them back then, I did not know how much I'll benefit from this special organization. Unfortunately, my little Yossi, suffering from a severe heart condition,had to get to Columbus, Ohio for open-heart surgery. I didn't see how it would be possible to swing it financially. Thinking of solutions,I recalled the article I had read,and called The

YOU CAN BE EMOTIONALLY HEALTHY AT ANY WEIGHT! I feel that the Weighsmarter column has a lot of substance, and I enjoy Esty Weiss’s novel and refreshing approach to weight loss and to life in general. I was a bit disappointed, though, by the premise of last week’s article, “How is your weight related to your emotional wellbeing?” Perhaps it was simply a poor choice of wording, but the opening rubbed me the wrong way. Although yes, I do believe that eating and emotions oftentimes go handin-hand, to posit that most

heavyset people are generally that way because of a lack of self-esteem is detrimental! I for one, being rather heavy, can speak from experience. As a teenager I suffered from severely low self-esteem due to a detrimental life situation, and turned to not eating food as a coping mechanism. Now that I am in a much healthier place and have confidence in who I am, ironically, I am heavy. Most of the time I find that my eating unhealthy items is simply due to the lack of options (because of a health condition) and lack of time due to a myriad of obligations. I would LOVE to eat healthier if I could manage it. I actually

And if I’m already writing, I have to first applaud your beautiful magazine! It is professionally written and designed, the topics intriguing, and I am really enjoying the special columns that do not appear elsewhere, such as business, real estate, and excursions. The health and educational columns are excellent, well-

written, clear, and down-toearth. The serial is beautiful and heartwarming! The recipes, too, are doable and practical- finally, things I can actually make for my own family! The crafts, Boggle, and art round it out, making it a magazine for the whole family. I especially love the fact that it is written only for Monseyites; the issues we have are made into a conversation through letters, interviews, polls, and

prefer fruits and vegetables over carbohydrates - but the pre-packaged foods are simply more convenient in this hectic life. Being “jolly” has very little to do with one’s eating; it has to do with the inner work one has performed on maintaining a positive self image. There are plenty of “fat people” out there that feel great with themselves as human beings, but would simply like to lose the extra pounds that snuck on because of external causes. Please don’t spread the myth perpetrated by the American mentality that overweight people are emotional wrecks! -A peeved and pudgy reader

more- hopefully uniting us and helping us to continue making Monsey into a beautiful place to live! After all that, I come now to the prompt for my writing. The past issue had an important and informative interview with our wonderful Town Supervisor, raising awareness in time for the critical elections coming up. However, I was shocked at the big picture on the front screaming out from the newsstands, on my kitchen table, in the streets! Although we will show our gratitude by going out to vote, we still do not want to bring such a cover into our homes. The Monsey View Continued on page 24

Three out of my five children are allergic and it gave me a better understanding as to what they're going through when they have a reaction. Just a quick reply to the person who feels that saving lives by being careful with allergens is overdone: If you had ever watched Hatzala working to save the life of a small child quickly slipping away due to an allergic incident, you would never say those words! You can only look so coldly on because it's not YOU or YOUR children... and may it never be! Also, due to the prevalence and common severity of reactions to those specific foods, I mentioned only a very short list of highly lethal foods. It shouldn't be too hard to avoid those few in public! When was the last time you craved celery sticks? How about feeling that urge to indulge on a chicken bottom? Wouldn’t you rather go for ice cream, cake, cookies, challah, chocolate and potato kugel? There actually is a very valid reason behind these cravings. You see, in your brain are something called neurotransmitters. They act as a chemical messenger relaying information within the brain, and the strength or weakness of each neurotransmitter plays an important role in your ability to "stop overeating." The four key neurotransmitters are dopamine, serotonin, GABA, and endorphins. Let’s learn a little bit about each one.

DOPAMINE:

This is the overall “feel

good” chemical. Low levels of dopamine can lead to a lack of motivation, fatigue, mood swings, and memory-loss. The following can help boost dopamine levels naturally.

Most of their married life they lived in Washington, and then moved to Baltimore where they resided for nine years. They try and accommodate everyone’s needs and treat everyone with dignity and respect. Our parents worked hard their whole lives and we were happy that Fountain View offered them such a comfortable and heimishe life in their later years. SO IT WAS A PERFECT FIT FROM THE BEGINNING. Our parents came on a trial basis. As with everything in life, some adjustments were necessary. But stay they did – one of the best decisions they could have made. In particular, our father was ecstatic that there is a shul on the premises and enjoyed the warm prayer services with a minyan three times a day, all made possible by Rabbi Seplowitz, a wonderful Rabbi who is a caring, thoughtful and concerned individual. Another point of appreciation for our parents was the warmth and care in the dining room. For seniors, meals are a very social event. The meals are delicious and beautifully presented, and are an example of Fountain View’s respect for its residents. Our father was impressed that, rather than having to eat the Shabbos or Yom Tov night meal according to the specific dinner schedule, he was able to have a full Shabbos seudah after davening. That is what he always did, and was initially afraid he would have to give up this pattern of his life. He

But accompanied by Fountain View’s amazing Rabbi, my husband wheeled my father right in up to the bimah and he was honored with the aliyah of choson B’Reishis. What timing!

BONEI OLAM ANNUAL CHINESE AUCTION I arrived at the mailbox a minute after Sara Rochel. My ever exuberant neighbor was tearing open a pink envelope and peeking in to see what surprise it held. A birthday party invitation for her daughter, she informed me. The next envelope in the pile had the information emblazoned on the outside: Time for a visit! Her pediatrician was coaxing her to schedule an appointment. But it was the last envelope, in muted pink and blue, that stole my heart. The faintest of colors, the daintiest of apparel, the new season’s line was in at Jacadi.

Our hopes of a family have yet been unrealized; mercilessly snatched from our reach time and again over the years.

Once the money flow had trickled and then run dry, the doors had closed in our faces. She’s afraid to say it to me. She thinks I will mow her down, close off her dreams, and brush them away with the flick of my hands and a disapproving scowl. “It was Rosh Chodesh. I paid Regina and purchased new material. Here is Malka’la. She has emerged from the bedroom and is shadowing the kitchen table again, and I want to give her everything, to tell her I will… I keep looking at the edges of her eyes, now narrowed with worry. Inside of me, a storm of questions arise and rage. How will we do it? How can we even sew so many dresses, and linens, and tablecloths at once? How can we manage? We can’t. We must. How? At this pivotal time, Malka’la deserves a mother, not a question. Malka’la wants linen. Not just any linen. She wants fancy, stately. She wants to close her eyes in a bed that she likes, wake up in a nest that surrounds her with her own creativity and love of life. She’s afraid to say it to me. She thinks I will mow her down, close off her dreams, and brush them away with the flick of my hands and a

over luxury, to breath loud and deep. She is worthy of life. She is worthy because she came into life. If there’s one thing, only one gift, I can grant her as she embarks on the journey of womanhood, it is this. It is experiencing worthiness. I just don’t have it to give it away. In the awkward pause of wanting, of putting out her request and waiting for it to be acknowledged, to find reassurance that it’ll be fulfilled, Malka’la has moved away. I hear her shuffling in the bedroom. I want to give you. I can’t. You deserve… it all.

How? A list fills my head and then boils over like a simmering, hearty soup. Wedding hall. Drummer, singer, mesader kiddushin. Guests. Inviting guests. A seudah, kibbud, wine, sweet drinks. An apartment. Money for an apartment… in all the weeks and months and fears, we haven’t gotten any closer to the astronomical amount of an apartment. Dresses. Window dressing. The list goes on, and on, but here is Malka’la. She has emerged from the bedroom, and is shadowing the kitchen table again, and I want to give her everything, to tell her I will… And there’s no way I can lie like that. Because I don’t have it. Serves one adult or two children I find that most of my young ones go through a stage when they will not eat bread. This recipe, intended for the fussy toddler, is a sure hit, with the whole family scrambling for doubles.

Serves four You won’t feel guilty sending the kids off after having eaten these wholesome pancakes. They include a perfect mix of breakfast ingredients and taste delicious!

A flavorful bowl of love for when you want to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.

1 c. flour 1 c. quick cook oats 3 T. sugar SEASO NED CH 2 tsp. baking powder EF B e crea tiv 1 T. vanilla sugar diced a e! Substitute pples fo r fruit, d iced b dried ½ tsp. cinnamon or even ananas, some ½ tsp. kosher salt granola . 7 oz. milk 4 oz. greek vanilla yogurt 2 eggs 1 medium apple, finely chopped

1½ c. milk ¾ c. water 2 T. butter 3 T. sugar ½ T. vanilla sugar 3. oz. farina dash of salt

2 eggs 3 T. shredded cheese 1 slice whole wheat or rye bread Cut bread into ½-inch strips. Whisk eggs and pour into greased and heated 8-inch frying pan. Tilt pan to distribute eggs to cover entire surface. Arrange bread over one half of eggs and sprinkle 2 T. cheese over bread. Lift other side of eggs over bread and cook for one minute. Flip over. Sprinkle cheese on top of omelet and cook 1-2 minutes covered, until cheese is melted.

Mix all dry ingredients in a 2-quart bowl. Whisk together eggs, yogurt, and milk. Add to dry ingredients, and mix until just combined. Add apples to the mixture. Heat oil or butter in a large frying pan. Drop batter into pan and cook until bottom browns and top forms bubbles. Flip over and repeat.

Bring milk, water, and butter to a boil. Stir in rest of ingredients. Lower flame and cook for 2 ½ minutes, stirring constantly. Variation: To incorporate more fiber, add ½ cup water and 3 T. wheatema.

INFORMATIONAL As you read this, there are approximately 61,000 people airborne over the United States. If you are from the lucky ones to have experienced air travel or are looking forward to having the experience- here are your air travel facts in a nutshell!

FACTS All international airline pilots speak English. The longest operating non-stop flight is a Delta flight between Johannesburg and Atlanta, at 17 hours. On a mission to save money, American Airlines was the first to stop providing pillows during flight. (They kept their blankets on all flights to keep passengers warm - which can be improvised as pillows.) Another attempt at money-saving took place in 1987, when AA saved $40,000 by removing one olive from each salad served in first class. Do you know that food tastes different while airborne? This is caused by the atmosphere in the cabin which dries out our noses and compromises our sense of smell, as well as the change in air pressure which numbs about a third of taste buds. The solution? Airlines generally add heavy amounts of salt and spice to dishes.

AIR TRAVEL IN HALACHA Traveling on a fast day poses unique shailos in halacha. According to nearly all poskim, eastbound travelers who don’t cross the dateline may end their fast when they encounter nightfall. There is however considerable dispute regarding westbound travelers, and one should consult his Rav for ruling prior to traveling. When a friend or relative is traveling, we traditionally give “shaliach mitzvah gelt,” (a coin or bill which they will give to Tzedaka upon safe arrival at their destination) because it says that “A shliach of a mitzvah will come to no harm.” Common practice is that one bentches gomel only on flights over an ocean, and according to some, from coast to coast. Reb Moshe Feinstein felt that any flight, while statistically safe, warrants the bracha haGomel. Consult your Rav for his ruling.

AIRPORTS AND AIRLINES AROUND THE WORLD • The world's largest airline in terms of fleet size is Delta Airlines (United States) with 809 aircraft in service, and having carried 129,433,000 passengers in the past year.

• The largest passenger plane is the Airbus 380 - nearly 240 feet long, almost 80 feet high, with standard seating capacity of 555 passengers.

•

The world's busiest airport in terms of passenger volume is Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia. More than 96 million passengers shuffled through the Atlanta airport in 2014.

•

The busiest airport in terms of flight traffic is O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois, with 881,933 flights in 2014, and aircraft take-off and landings every 10 to 15 seconds on a given day.

• One of the weirdest airport amenities can be found in Sao Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport in Brazil. Travelers can head to Terminal 2 to visit an in-house dentist who offers cleaning, whitening, and other services - the last place I’d want to visit en route to vacation!

SAFETY MEASURES Are you scared to fly? Keep in mind that statistic wise, plane crashes kill one in eleven million passengers. WELCOME NEIGHBOR WHAT MADE YOU MOVE? The biggest catalyst for our move was our special needs daughter. She was getting older, her needs were growing, and the support system we had when she was younger didn’t serve our needs anymore. Living in a small community meant the infrastructure she needed wasn’t available. Besides, New Jersey provides very little in the way of services.

The situation was becoming very taxing on the family, with my husband needing to drive her to school every day. We knew Monsey has much more available. The existence of Ohr V’Daas and other agencies providing for these children really was the deciding factor.

Our beis medrash is right next to us, and we have wonderful neighbors in a very heimish environment. My children fit right in, and there are lots of neighbors for my children to befriend.

WHAT’S THE MOST DIFFICULT ASPECT OF LIVING HERE? I come from a small community. I expected to be coming to the suburbs, where the standards are laid back and low key. I had to digest the fact that, as the Monsey community is

growing, it is becoming more commercialized. With consumerism comparable to the big cities, it is more challenging to keep to one’s standards and refrain from conforming to cultural norms.

HOW DO YOU FIND THE SCHOOL SYSTEM? I belong to a community and its mosdos, and we were, baruch Hashem, accepted in the school of our mosod. The classes there are small, so my children’s adjustment was seamless. In the past, we had spent summers in Monsey, and the children had gone to our mosdos’ day camp. This pre-acquaintance made the transition smoother.

WHAT DID YOU HAVE TO GET USE TO? Living in a development is like living in a bungalow colony, where children are out from Pesach to Chanukah, and I had to set boundaries and rules. Coming from a small community in a secular hispanic city, I appreciated relocating to a city vibrant with Yiddishkeit, where you feel the seasons and Yomim Tovim, and where you feel the pulse of Yiddishe life.

WHAT DO YOU MISS MOST? I experienced a sense of loss when I moved, of having been part of a community where I knew everyone and they knew me. I knew I’d have to slowly build that again by reaching out and creating those connections;

it doesn’t happen on its own. I involved myself in community activities, found out where the shiurim are, and later got a job that allowed me to interact with more people and get to know them. I had to proactively create a niche for myself in the community. I opened myself up to the change, and I proactively looked for opportunities to build a sense of belonging.

IF YOU HAD KNOWN EVERYTHING THAT YOU NOW KNOW ABOUT MONSEY, WOULD YOU STILL HAVE MOVED? Everything is Hashgachah, exactly the way it was supposed to be. What I didn’t know was that I would have to be extremely patient in getting services for my special needs daughter. I was hoping to get services right away, but until everything was set in place took over a year. At this point, she is set up, and we are very happy that we made the move. Therefore, I frequently feel guilty after they are finally out of the house and I have a quiet moment to think. I must say, that I am literally starting to dread the mornings. Do you have any ideas on how I can reduce or even better, completely eliminate the emotional drama in our daily morning routine?

1. PLANNING FOR SUCCESS: Take a moment to stop and think about the next 24 hours. Ask yourself: What will my family need in order for our day to iy”h be successful? Think about what you expect to encounter that are potential trouble spots for yourself or your family. Review your day’s agenda the night before. Mentally prepare yourself to try implementing the tips below.

GO” METHOD: Try to prepare snacks and lunches in the evening while the environment is relaxed. Prepare anything that your children will need for school tomorrow and ready their briefcases, including the food items. Homework and books should make their way back into the briefcases as soon as they are finished being used. If the food products will spoil- keep the prepared lunches in the refrigerator- ready to grab at a moment’s notice. CHOOSE THE NEXT DAY’S CLOTHING THE NIGHT BEFORE: Morning brain-fog can inhibit the decision-making process. Lay clothes on a chair or shelf, or hang them on a special hanger. Try to pick the dress together with your child before she goes to sleep; the fewer the surprises, the more cooperative the child will be. LIMIT DISTRACTIONS: Children are easily distracted. To limit the chance of a child becoming distracted by toys, books or the like when the child is supposed to be getting ready for the day, try to pack away all potential pitfalls the night before. Out of sight is out of mind!

2. FORGO SOME SLEEP: By waking up earlier than the rest of the family, you’ll have a sliver of quiet time to savor a cup of coffee, and daven a tefillah with peace of mind before the kinderlach appear- bringing along with them the inevitable distractions. No doubt you’ll feel less rushed and better prepared for the day.

3. LIGHTEN UP: If you are tense in the morning, your children will pick up on it. They are sensitive to your oncoming moods before you may even know it yourself. Instead of nagging your child to get dressed, try to lighten the mood and have a playful race to see who gets finished first.

4. STAGGER WAKE-UP TIMES: If you have a large family ke”h, consider “staggering” wakeup times for greater efficiency. Start with the kids who require the most assistance from you first, as this will minimize your need to be in two places at once.

5. LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES: If you had a frustrating morning, think about why it was so stressful. By examining what went wrong today, you can iy”h figure out how to do things better tomorrow. Most importantly is to remember that a composed mother creates a calm atmosphere which ultimately results in happy kids. Therefore, it is crucial for us to set our own limits to keep our minds clear of any external affairs which may divert our attention from our primary responsibilities, leading to swift decomposer. Remember your family comes before everything. All business matters, arrangements, and related pressures ought to be temporarily postponed until after the children have happily left for school. Similarly, consider postponing all non-urgent phone calls for a later time. Furthermore, I would advise you to put on pleasant, lively music first thing in the morning; it truly lightens the mood and adds a bounce to the atmosphere. As you review your routine, you will start to figure out what you will need to modify in order to avoid the panicked rush. By pre-planning your morning in advance you will have transformed your position from a reactive one into a proactive one. TRID IS HERE

Now that the longanticipated, MAJOR change to the mortgage process is in effect, homebuyers will be affected by the change, with different forms, different timelines and different processes. TRID, also known as the TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosure Rule, is aimed toward making mortgages more transparent and easier to understand for consumers, but there will be a learning curve.

Under TRID, a lender cannot impose any fee, except a reasonable fee for obtaining a consumer’s credit report, on a consumer, until the consumer has received the loan estimate and has indicated intent to proceed.

1. THE OLD FORMS ARE OUT.

This should make it easier for a consumer to shop for and understand interest rates, but it might take lenders longer to preapprove someone, because they are going to be extra careful when collecting and reviewing borrower information.

The homebuyer will be receiving new disclosure forms from lenders explaining the loan estimate and loan closing.

The Closing Disclosure form combines the final Truth-In-Lending statement and the HUD-1 settlement statement into a shorter form

Keep these three primary areas in mind while preparing yourself for the home-buying process:

The Loan Estimate form combines the Good Faith Estimate (GFE) and the Truth in Lending Disclosure into a shorter form that should be easier to understand and explains the mortgage loan’s key features, costs and risks at the beginning of the mortgage process.

that should be easier for the consumer to understand and provides a detailed account of the entire real estate transaction, including terms of the loan, fees and closing costs. This disclosure might transform the closing table from a nightmare experience with piles of documents to review for the first time into a more manageable, slightly bad dream of reviewing the information ahead of time. With more information provided by the lender before the closing date, the various roles held by the lender and title company at the closing table might change. Stay tuned. 2. THE DISCLOSURES MUST BE PROVIDED WITHIN A SPECIFIC TIME FRAME — OR ELSE. Lenders must provide the Loan Estimate form to consumers within three business days of applying for a loan – which means three business days after the

consumer provided the lender with their name, income, Social Security number, property address, property value estimate and mortgage loan amount sought. The Closing Disclosure form must be provided at least three business days before loan consummation (the time the consumer becomes contractually obligated to the mortgage, which is usually at closing). Any significant changes to the loan terms (the annual percentage rate (APR) becomes inaccurate, the loan product changes or a prepayment penalty is added) will restart a new threebusiness-day waiting period. Both the Loan Estimate and Closing Disclosure forms can be delivered in person, by mail or electronic delivery. 3. THE CLOSING PROCESS WILL BE IMPACTED IN THE MONTHS TO COME. The TRID rules apply only to loan applications received after Oct. 3. The timing should be of concern to agents and homebuyers. According to the National Association of Realtors, if 10 percent of transactions experience closing issues due

to TRID, that’s as many as 40,000 transactions a month.

Lenders will be extra careful and hesitant after Oct. 3 while providing mortgages so as not to be out of compliance with the new rules. This will most likely translate to longer timelines to get a mortgage and delayed closing dates. This, in turn, will impact the tight timelines around moving into a home while consumers are also coordinating assets, move-in dates, time off of work and so on. So, prepare yourself for what is to come. TRID is here and it is not going away fast!! Once we get the hang of it, I actually think for the most part, it will be good for the consumer. It’s

only if one is in a rush or has a tight schedule to close, where there will be issues, at least in the beginning. When applying for a mortgage loan discuss the timeline with your lender and review the process to ensure that you are in compliance. The accuracy and delivery of the new forms will be critical to ensure the mortgage process is not derailed or delayed, and for you to have a smooth purchase process.

‫דאס מאל איז אנדערש!‬ ‫מיר פירן זיך געווענליך צו באשרייבן א בית‪-‬המדרש אין מאנסי‬ ‫און איר אומגעגנט‪ ,‬וואס טראצדעם וואס יעדער בית‪-‬המדרש פאר‬ ‫זיך איז א יחיד במינו און צייכנט זיך אויס מיט אירע אייגנשאפטן‬ ‫און קאלירן‪ ,‬פארט זענען דאך אלע חשוב און טייער ביים בורא‪-‬כל‪-‬‬ ‫עולמים און דינען אלס בית תפילה פארן באשעפער‪.‬‬ ‫פארט‪ ,‬אז עס קומט צו באשרייבן אזא הייליגער בית‪-‬המדרש ווי‬ ‫'קהל זכרון אברהם ד'מאדא'‪ ,‬רופט עס ארויס ביי יעדן איינעם א‬ ‫באזונדערע יראת הכבוד און חשיבות‪ ,‬דען עס איז די רעדע אצינד‬ ‫פון איינע פון די חשוב'סטע בתי מדרשים אין ספרינג‪-‬וואלי‪ ,‬אן ארט‬ ‫וואס איז אויסגערופן אלס מקום מיוחד פאר תלמידי חכמים ויראי‬ ‫השם‪ ,‬אן ארט וואו קדושת התפילה ווערט אפגעהיטן אויפן העכסטן‬ ‫פארמאט און עס לאזט זיך טאפן אין די לופטן‪.‬‬ ‫קהל זכרון אברהם ד'מאדא‪ ,‬שטעלט פאר זיך פאר א הערליכע‬ ‫רואיגע וואונקל‪ ,‬וועלכער זיצט ווי אן אינזל אינמיטן‬ ‫ים‪ .‬דער בית‪-‬המדרש איז שטענדיג אויפגערוימט‪,‬‬ ‫לופטיג‪ ,‬צוגעשטעלט מיט אלע געברויכן‪ ,‬געשמאק‬ ‫און באקוועם לכל דורש ומבקש‪.‬‬ ‫אין בית‪-‬המדרש זענען פאראן אן ערך פון קרוב‬ ‫צו הונדערט מתפללים‪ ,‬וועלכע זענען רובם ככולם‬ ‫תורה'דיגע יונגעלייט‪ .‬אויף דעם בית‪-‬המדרש קען מען‬ ‫רואיג זאגן אז די פנימיות שפילט א וויכטיגע ראלע‪ ,‬דען‬ ‫אויפן ארט דאווענען אידן פון אלע סארט‪ ,‬אפגעזען‬ ‫צי דאס איז ליטוויש‪ ,‬חסידי'ש אדער אנדערע קרייזן‪.‬‬ ‫דער צד השוה פון אלעמען‪ ,‬איז די פנימיות הדברים‪,‬‬ ‫בשעת אלע האבן איין באחדות'דיגע מטרה פון 'ויעשו‬ ‫כולם אגודה אחת‪ ,‬לעשות רצונך בלבב שלם'‪.‬‬ ‫אין מאדע בית‪-‬המדרש דאווענען אידן פון אלע‬

‫סארט און שטערמונגען‪ ,‬אבער יעדער לעבט זיך באחדות‪ ,‬מען איז‬ ‫זיך סובל איינער דעם צווייטן‪ ,‬מען פארגינט איינער דעם צווייטן‪ .‬עס‬ ‫איז זעלטן צו זען א בית‪-‬המדרש פון דעם סארט‪ ,‬וואו עס זאל נאך‬ ‫קיינמאל נישט האבן אויסגעבראכן א מחלוקת‪ ,‬צוליב שטערמונג‬ ‫אדער פארטיי ח"ו‪ .‬יעדער איינער שפירט זיך ווי א חלק פון בית‪-‬‬ ‫המדרש‪ ,‬יעדער פארשטייט די מטרה פון דעם דאזיגן מקום קדוש‬ ‫און יעדער איינער רעספעקטירט דעם ארט מיט אירע מתפללים‪.‬‬

‫זכרון אברהם ד'מאדא‬

‫בנוהג שבעולם‪ ,‬אין די וועלט איז איינגעפירט‪ ,‬אז א בית‪-‬המדרש‬ ‫קרוינט דעם רב אלס רב הקהילה‪ ,‬לדוגמא‪ ,‬אז א בנן‪-‬של‪-‬קדושים‬ ‫וויל עפענען א מקום קדוש לעילוי נשמת זיינע אבות הק'‪ ,‬רופט ער‬ ‫דעם בית‪-‬המדרש על שמם ולזכרם‪ ,‬צולייגנדיג דעם נאמען פון די‬ ‫שטאט וואו זיי האבן משמש געווען ברבנות‪ ,‬און מיטן עפענונג פון‬ ‫בית‪-‬המדרש ווערט דער רב אטאמאטיש געקרוינט מיטן טיטל של‬

‫דורך הרה"ג ר' יעקב קאפעלנער‬ ‫שליט"א‪ .‬די זמנים אין בית‪-‬המדרש‬ ‫זענען שטענדיג אין צייט‪ ,‬א זייגער‬ ‫איז א זייגער און א זמן תפילה ווערט‬ ‫שטרעג אפגעהיטן‪.‬‬ ‫במשך דעם גאנצן טאג‪ ,‬זיצן‬ ‫כסדר אידן און לערנען‪ .‬עס איז‬ ‫צוגעשטעלט אויפן ארט קאווע און‬ ‫אנדערע געברויכן‪ .‬דער בית‪-‬המדרש‬ ‫שטעלט מיט זיך פאר א רואיגער‬ ‫ארט וואו מען קומט פון דער גאנצער‬ ‫אומגעגנט קובע צו זיין עיתים לתורה‪.‬‬

‫שבת קודש יום חמדתו‬

‫ווען עס קומט דער זמן פון רעוא‬ ‫דרעוין‪ ,‬בשעת אידישע קינדער‬ ‫געזעגען זיך מיטן שבת קודש‪ ,‬זיצט‬ ‫מען אין מאדער בית‪-‬המדרש מיט‬ ‫אן ערנסטקייט‪ ,‬מען פארברענגט‬ ‫אינאיינעם בשירה ובזמרה‪ .‬דער רב‬ ‫שליט"א רעדט דברי כיבושין פארן‬ ‫עולם‪ ,‬אריינגעפלאכטן מיט שיינע‬ ‫דרושים און פשטים אויף די סדרה‪,‬‬ ‫פון וואס דער ציבור שעפט חיות‬ ‫אויפן גאנצן וואך‪.‬‬ ‫יעדן יאר אינמיטן זוממער‪ ,‬איז‬ ‫דער בית‪-‬המדרש זכרון אברהם‬ ‫דמאדא‪ ,‬זוכה צו באקומען אלס גאסט דער פאטער פונעם רב‬ ‫שליט"א‪ ,‬כ"ק מרן הגה"צ גאב"ד דק"ק מעלבורן שליט"א‪ .‬דער רב‬ ‫לערנט דעמאלס פאר פרקי אבות פארן ציבור‪ ,‬בשעת עס באטייליגט‬ ‫זיך אויפן ארט א ריזן ציבור אידן‪ .‬די מתפללים און אוהדים האלטן‬ ‫דעמאלס מיט די דאווענענ'ס און שלש‪-‬סעודות וואס ווערט געפירט‬ ‫מיט א התרוממות הנפש‪ ,‬און דער טעם דערפון בלייבט איבער אויף‬ ‫א לאנגע צייט‪.‬‬

‫אז עס קומט צו גיין שבת‪ ,‬דאן שפירט מען הערשט די קדושה‬ ‫אין בית‪-‬המדרש‪ .‬עס טוישט זיך די לופט‪ ,‬עס טוישט זיך די‬ ‫אטמאספערע און א הימלדיגע הייליגקייט נידערט אראפ אויף דעם‬ ‫גאנצן בית‪-‬המדרש‪.‬‬ ‫מנחה וקבלת שבת ווערט געדאווונט מיט א ווארעמקייט און‬ ‫התלהבות‪ .‬נאכן דאווענען גייט דער גאנצער ציבור זאגן גוט שבת‬ ‫פארן רב שליט"א‪ ,‬בשעת עס דערקענט זיך די ווארעמע געפילן פון‬ ‫הערצה וואס דער ציבור פארמאגט פארן רב שליט"א‪ .‬בפרט פאר די‬ ‫קינדער‪ ,‬וועלכע שעפן ספעציעל חיזוק פאר א גאנצע וואך‪ ,‬הערנדיג‬ ‫דער ליבליכער גוט‪-‬שבת פונעם רב‪.‬‬ ‫במשך פונעם שבת קומט פאר דער וואונדערליכער שיעור‬ ‫אין 'פרשה בהלכה'‪ ,‬דורך דער פה מפיק מרגליות‪ ,‬הרה"ג ר' יעקב‬ ‫קאפעלנער שליט"א‪ .‬ר' יעקב איז א באקאנטער תלמיד חכם און‬ ‫מרביץ תורה‪ ,‬דער רעכטער האנט פונעם רב שליט"א און באליבט‬ ‫ביי אלעמען‪ .‬ער איז שטארק טעטיג בכל עניני בית‪-‬המדרש און גיבט‬ ‫זייער פיל צו פארן בית‪-‬המדרש‪ .‬אין די ווינטער שבתים קומט דער‬ ‫שיעור פאר פרייטאג צו נאכטס נאכן דאווענען‪ ,‬אין זוממער לערנט‬ ‫מען פאר שבת נאכמיטאג פאר מנחה‪.‬‬ ‫שבת אינדערפרי דאווענט מען מיט א ווארעמקייט און געשמאק‪,‬‬ ‫עס ווערן צוגעשיקט ספעציעלע ווארעמע בעלי תפילות‪ ,‬וואס‬ ‫דאווענען מיט התלהבות‪ ,‬און עס דערקענט זיך צווישן דעם ציבור‬ ‫דעם ערנסטקייט פון דעם ציבור‪.‬‬ ‫שבת הגדול און שבת שובה‪ ,‬איז באקאנט די שיינע דרשות וואס‬ ‫ווערן געזאגט דורכן רב שליט"א‪ ,‬לשמחת ליבם פון די מתפללי‬ ‫ולומדי בית‪-‬המדרש‪ .‬די דאזיגע דרשות ברעגען אריין א רוח פון‬ ‫תורה במשך דעם גאנצן יום‪-‬טוב‪ ,‬בעת וואס די לומדים זענען זיך‬ ‫מפלפל דערין במשך פונעם יום‪-‬טוב‪.‬‬

‫מה טוב ומה נעים צו באשרייבן אזא חשוב'ע בית‪-‬המדרש בעתו‬ ‫ובזמנו‪ ,‬בשעת די וואך ווערט אפגעהאלטן דער יערליכער מלוה‪-‬‬ ‫מלכה לטובת דער בית‪-‬המדרש‪ ,‬פונקט די וואך ווען עס געפאלט‬ ‫אויס די יארצייט פון הרה"ק רבי אברהמ'לע מאדער זצוק"ל‪ ,‬וואס‬ ‫דער בית‪-‬המדרש האט זוכה געווען צו טראגן זיין גרויסן נאמען‪.‬‬ ‫עס איז נישט קיין ספק אז דער דאזיגער בית‪-‬המדרש איז א‬ ‫שטאלץ פאר די גאנצע שטאט‪ ,‬ווער רעדט נאך ווען פילע תושבי‬ ‫מאנסי זענען נהנה פון די מעשי הצדקה והחסד פונעם רב שליט"א‪.‬‬ ‫דער רב שליט"א איז אן אקטיווער חבר אין דער וועד הרבנים‬ ‫דספרינג‪-‬וואלי‪ ,‬אויסנוצנדיג זיין אמט לטובת אידישע קינדער‪ ,‬און‬ ‫דינענדיג כאב נאמן לעדתו ולתושבי עירינו בכלל‪.‬‬ ‫דעריבער איז אצינד דער פאסיגער ארט ארויסצואווייזן הכרת‬ ‫הטוב פארן רב שליט"א און פאר דער מאדער בית‪-‬המדרש‪ ,‬דורכן‬ ‫שטיצן דעם מקום חשוב ונכבד‪.‬‬ ‫עס איז זיכער אז דער זכות פון די הייליגע צדיקים וואס זענען‬ ‫פארבינדן מיט דעם דאזיגן בית‪-‬המדרש‪ ,‬וועלן מגין זיין אויף די‬ ‫שטאט‪ ,‬און זיין א הילף פאר יעדן מאנסיער תושב באזונדער‪ ,‬צו זען‬ ‫נחת דקדושה פון אלע קינדער‪ ,‬בני חיי ומזוני רויחי‪ ,‬סייעתא דשמיא‬ ‫וכל טוב סלה‪.‬‬

‫דער בית‪-‬המדרש באשטייט פון א גרויסן היכל התפילה‪ ,‬באקאנט‬ ‫אלס 'היכל דוד לייב' – נאך דער הייליגער צדיק‪ ,‬רבי דוד לייב שווארץ‬ ‫זצוק"ל‪ .‬דער נדבן אויפן היכל איז געווען הרבני הנגיד מו"ה ר' חיים‬ ‫ב"ר יהוסף לאקס ע"ה‪ ,‬וועלכער איז געווען א נאנטער מענטש ביי‬ ‫ר' דוד לייב ע"ה‪ ,‬וזכה לנדב בית‪-‬המדרש על שמו‪ .‬דער מקום קדוש‬ ‫איז דער איינציגסטער אויף דער וועלט‪ ,‬וואס האט זוכה געווען צו‬ ‫טראגן דעם נאמען פון דעם אומפארגעסליכן ר' דוד לייב זצוק"ל‪,‬‬ ‫וועלכער האט ליידער נישט איבערגעלאזט קיין זרע‪-‬של‪-‬קיימא‪.‬‬ ‫אבער מעשיו הטובים הם הן בניו‪ ,‬זיינע צדקות וחסד וואס ער האט‬ ‫אומאויפהערליך געטאן‪ ,‬וועלן מענטשן שטענדיג געדענקען‪.‬‬ ‫אין בית‪-‬המדרש איז אויך פאראן א ספר‪-‬תורה וואס איז‬ ‫אריינגעגעבן געווארן ברוב פאר והדר‪ ,‬לעילוי נשמת הטהורה פון‬ ‫דעם אומפארגעסליכן צדיק הרה"צ ר' דוד לייב שווארץ זצ"ל וזוג'‬ ‫הצדקת ע"ה‪ .‬דער ספר תורה איז געשריבן געווארן דורכן רב שליט"א‬ ‫בהשתתפות בני קהילתו‪ ,‬ובהתנדבות ידידים פון ר' דוד לייב זצ"ל‪.‬‬ ‫אין די זייט פון בית‪-‬המדרש איז‬ ‫פאראן א קליינע צימער‪ ,‬וואס דינט‬ ‫אלס וואכנדיגער בית‪-‬המדרש‪ .‬אין‬ ‫זייט פון דעם צימער הענגט א גרויסער‬ ‫פליקאט‪ ,‬וואו עס ווערט אויפגעשריבן‬ ‫מיט גאלדענע אותיות די דאזיגע נדבנים‬ ‫לדבר מצוה‪ ,‬וועלכע גיבן נדרים ונדבות‬ ‫פארן בית‪-‬המדרש‪ ,‬לעילוי נשמת‪ ,‬נר‬ ‫למאור ועוד‪ ,‬אלעס ווערט חרוט וכתוב‬

‫דער דאזיגער בית‪-‬המדרש שיינט צו זיין אלס איינע פון די‬ ‫שענסטע מקומות אין אונזער שטאט ספרינג‪-‬וואלי‪ ,‬אן ארט וואו‬ ‫אלעס ווערט געפירט לפי‪-‬הלכה‪ ,‬אן ארט וואו מען דאוונט שטענדיג‬ ‫ווארעם און געשמאק‪ .‬ועל כולם איז דאס אן ארט וואו אלע געפינען‬ ‫זיך דא גוט‪ ,‬מען געפינט זיך אינדערהיים‪ ,‬עס הערשט אן עין טובה‬ ‫צווישן די מתפללים‪ ,‬מען איז מכיר די מעלות פון אנדערע אידן‪,‬‬ ‫אפגעזען פון וועלכע סארט שיכטן און קרייזן מען קומט‪.‬‬ ‫באזונדער שטייגט ארויס די הערצה און ידידות מיט די שכנים‬ ‫ארום דעם בית‪-‬המדרש‪ ,‬בשעת זיי ווייזן ארויס אנוועזנהייט אין‬ ‫יעדע געלעגנהייט‪ ,‬צי איז דאס ביי מלוה‪-‬מלכה פארן בית‪-‬המדרש‪,‬‬ ‫אדער אין אנדערע געלעגנהייטן‪ .‬שכנים און מתפללים זענען זיך‬ ‫שטענדיג משתתף אין די שמחות איינער ביים צווייטן און די אחדות‬ ‫איז העכער אלע ערווארטונגען‪.‬‬ ‫עס מוז ארויסגעברענגט ווערן די אנוועזנהייט פון איינע פון די‬ ‫מתפללים‪ ,‬הרה"ג הישיש‪ ,‬מגדולי המחנכים בדורינו‪ ,‬מו"ה ר' יוסף‬ ‫עליאס זצ"ל‪ ,‬וועלכער פלעגט באשיינען דעם בית‪-‬המדרש מיט זיין‬ ‫אנוועזנהייט פיל יארן‪ ,‬און זייענדיג גאר א געהויבענער און ערנסטער‬ ‫מענטש‪ ,‬האט ער געלייגט א סטעמפל און א דמות אויף דעם בית‪-‬‬ ‫המדרש‪ .‬ר' יוסף איז געווען א סימבאל פון דביקות בה' ובתורתו‪,‬‬ ‫זייענדיג פיל מיט יראת שמים און ערליכקייט‪ .‬ער האט דעריבער‬ ‫זוכה געווען צו בנין וחתנין רבנן‪ ,‬חשוב'ע ערליכע קינדער‪ ,‬וועלכע‬ ‫גייען אויף דעם דרך השם און זיצן שטענדיג און לערנען‪ ,‬זייענדיג‬ ‫מרביץ תורה לרבים‪.‬‬ ‫תהא נשמתו צרורה בצרור החיים‪.‬‬
