Sheffield-based artists are being briefed this week about plans for a permanent city centre Covid memorial that will open in Spring 2023.

The unique memorial, located in Balm Green Gardens, will be a meaningful, long-lasting, and creative tribute to those who have lost their lives, those who have worked above and beyond to keep people as safe as possible and those who have been affected by Covid.

This second phase of the Covid memorial programme is asking artists to propose their ideas for how a memorial tree will reflect the thoughts, theme and sentiments gathered from

the first phase of Sheffield’s Covid memorial programme. It is seen as significant artwork that will become a part of the physical and social fabric of the city.

The brief outlines that it is looking for artists with experience of producing work in the public realm and engaging with diverse, underrepresented communities to develop ideas, build a sense of ownership and strengthen cultural provision.

The memorial will be constructed using cast or fabricated metal to reflect the city’s heritage. It must be designed to allow people to connect with it either by reading the stories and messages it holds or by attaching temporary

messages or ribbons.

Sitting within the planted garden, the sculpture will provide a focal point to the space for people to pay their respects and place tributes and memories and be a symbol that people from all cultures can understand and relate to and be accessible to everyone.

Councillor Terry Fox, Leader of Sheffield City Council, said: “Sheffield’s Central Covid memorial will be a permanent tribute to those who have lost their lives, those who have worked above and beyond to keep people as safe as possible and those who have been affected by Covid.

“We hope that the brief given to our artists today will result

in a creative permanent tribute, where anyone can go and just stand and look at it, to reflect, to be thoughtful.

A place where they can feel the compassion that was shown in so many ways by so many people when Covid entered our lives. Covid was difficult for everyone in all sorts of ways, but for some people its effects will last a lifetime. We are acutely aware that some groups were disproportionately affected by Covid, and we are committed to making sure their voices are reflected in this memorial and committed to reducing the inequalities we see in the city as much as we can.”

The selection process will be run by Sheffield Museums,

and it is expected that an artist will be selected by the end of October and the artwork installed in Balm Green Gardens by Spring. Councillor Terry Fox added: “We hope that Sheffield people, groups and organisations will continue to be part of shaping our memorial activity here, by sharing stories at sheffieldstoriesfromthepandemic.com/ , getting involved in local memorial activity and by participating in this Balm Green Gardens project. This will all help us achieve what we planned when this memorial activity first started, and that is a perfect memorial to those loved ones we have lost and those who are here living with that loss.”

TICKETS GO ON SALE FOR THE REYTONS BIGGEST HOMETOWN SHOW TO DATE

After months of speculation, The Reytons have finally announced their next iconic hometown show, this time taking at Utilita Arena Sheffield in September 2023. Tickets go on general sale 10am Friday 28 October. Their last South Yorkshire show was the 4,500 strong Magna back in May, which incidentally sold out in only 10 hours, and proved to be a spectacle of its own. But now, with a new album on the way, an army of fans growing by the second and nearly 1 million Spotify listeners every single month, it’s time for the ‘Kids Off The Estate’ to go further.

The rise through South Yorkshire’s, and indeed the entire UK’s, venues has been nothing short of meteoric. The journey began with 350 people at Plug (now Network), via The Leadmill, O2 Academy and Magna, before reaching the 12,500 capacity Utilita Arena. Judging by the energy and atmosphere of all those previous shows, this will surely be a night to remember.

Releasing 100% independently, with no label backing, The Reytons have also announced their second album is set for release on 27th January 2023, just over 12 months since their debut album rocketed to Number 11 in the Official UK Charts, with over 20,000 sales to date.

Since the release of their debut album ‘Kids Off

The Estate’ in November 2021, The Reytons have gone from strength to strength, the word of mouth sensation spreading like wildfire throughout the UK. The band now boast an impressive 750k+ monthly listeners on Spotify, however this online popularity is far from superficial. Over 17,000 fans are set to see the band live on their huge sold-out UK tour this Autumn, including landmark dates at Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom, London’s Electric Ballroom and Nottingham’s Rock City, to name just a few.

A host of huge festival dates in the summer, including the likes of TRNSMT, Neighbourhood Weekender and Y Not Festival, plus some huge support dates with Gerry Cinnamon and The Libertines have left an army of fans clamouring for new music.

Setting The Reytons apart from the competition is their fiercely independent approach to the way they work. Not exactly welcomed with open arms by the industry from the very start, the band channel their working class grit and determination to overcome every obstacle thrown at them. Aided by the masses of loyal fans, no achievement is out of reach.

Help winston’s wisH

One in 20 children are bereaved of a parent by the age of 16. This easily accessible figure exists because there have been services there to support grieving children for the last 30 years who’ve been looking for this data. The amount of young people bereaved of a parent or somebody important between the ages of 13-25 is much harder to find, but this lack of representation is about to change.

Youth bereavement charity, Winston’s Wish, is calling out to bereaved 13-25 year olds to help guide them in ‘doing better’ at supporting their age group. Whilst continuing to support children as they’ve successfully done for the last 30 years, the charity is now focused on reaching those young people who’ve not found bereavement support available or relevant to them. Their new mission is to portray the grief of young people as it’s seen by them; through their language, expression and experience. Winston’s Wish recognise that whilst they’ve got plenty of experience under their belt in how to support young people who’ve experienced the death of somebody important, they’re not the experts in what young people want to see or hear, or where they want to go to find the help - young grieving people are!

Winston’s Wish issued a statement which said “Instead of deciding what’s best for them, we’re ready to create the future with them. We’ll create support in the way they want support and appear in the places they look for it.” But for all that to happen, Winston’s Wish needs the young people to guide them!

If you are or know of a young people (aged 13 to 25) with experience of grief the charity wants you to be involved! They want to hear your experiences, thoughts, and ideas, so together they can change the lives of young grieving people for the better. The charity has various ways to get involved; from a simple questionnaire, contributing some content for our social channels via the role of an Ambassador or becoming part of the charity’s important decision making by taking a seat on the Youth advisory board.

Help other’s who’ve experienced similar by helping Winston’s Wish reach their ambition of ensuring no young person faces grief alone.

If you’d like to help spread the word head to winstonswish.org where you can find a link to the questionnaire and application form for young people to get involved in shaping the future of Winston’s Wish.

public tram service

Proposals to bring the operation of South Yorkshire’s tram network back into public control have been considered last week by regional leaders, as part of plans for the system’s future.

The move would mean the running of Supertram services, infrastructure and finances would be controlled by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) when Stagecoach’s current contract for operation of the network ends. The proposals form part of the region’s wider ambitions to upgrade Supertram, as part of a fully integrated public transport network.

South Yorkshire’s Mayor Oliver Coppard said long-term plans for the network’s future must work for the whole of the region: “Supertram has been part of our region’s fabric for nearly thirty years. It’s iconic to South Yorkshire and plays a critical role in helping us reach our net zero goal.

But with that legacy, parts of the system are nearing the end of their design life, and – in the aftermath of the pandemic - passengers are using services differently. Our ambitions - for how our communities get to jobs or education, and how they visit family and friends - must work for the whole of our region for a generation to come. That is why we are reviewing the funding and future of our region’s tram network. I am excited to propose public sector operation as the next stop on Supertram’s journey. This will help us to develop a long-term approach that integrates Supertram into our wider plans for public transport across South Yorkshire.”

the system, including track and infrastructure improvements and better facilities for passengers. A 2018 consultation on the Future of Supertram found strong public support for proposed investment running at nearly ninety-percent (88%) of local residents, businesses, visitors and community groups. The majority of respondents (68.3%) stated they would travel by car if the tram was no longer available.

South Yorkshire leaders considered proposals to create an ‘arm’s length’ publicly owned company to run the region’s tram system at the Mayoral Combined Authority Board meeting on 18 October. Stagecoach’s operating contract for Supertram ends in March 2024. In response to the news this week that Supertram services will be brought into public control and that there will be a £2 price cap on bus and tram fares, Council Leader Terry Fox said, “The news this week that the Supertram network will be brought back into public control is a brilliant, positive step change for Sheffield and the wider South Yorkshire region.

At a time when our public transport system feels like it is no longer serving our communities, bringing the tram back to the people means we can make sure that it operated with the needs of our residents first and not for the gain of private companies.

family business offers complete funeral service

Eric Eyre Funeral Service understands how difficult the process of planning a funeral for a loved one can be and offer a bespoke funeral service, whilst continuing to uphold traditional values.

YEARS

Annual multi trip

Opened in 1994, South Yorkshire’s Supertram system cost £240m and now serves major residential and employment sites in Sheffield. A Tram Train project extended the network to Rotherham in 2018. SYMCA recently secured a £100 million Government grant to modernise parts of

South Yorkshire’s Mayor Oliver Coppard and local authority leaders have and will continue to work together to bring Sheffield and South Yorkshire a well-connected, responsive and value for money public transport service that our people deserve. That’s why, although we absolutely welcome the £2 price cap on both bus and tram fares also announced this week, we will continue to push for more radical action to reform our broken bus system. It needs major government investment and a whole new working model.”

Established since 1864, Eric took over the business in 1955 and has been looking after families in the local community and surrounding areas of Sheffield, Barnsley and Rotherham ever since, with branches at High Green and Sheffield Lane Top. Available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and with decades of experience in guiding bereaved clients through this difficult time, Eric Eyre provide a professional yet personal service, caring for you and your loved ones while facilitating the necessary funeral arrangements and ensuring your wishes are carried out with care and compassion. Eric Eyre go the extra mile to provide an exceptional service and will take responsibility for ensuring everything is perfectly organised to deliver a fitting tribute to your loved one’s life story. “Just as other aspects of life have evolved, so has society’s approach to funerals, with modern funerals a very different affair to the traditional, formal black-tie events of years gone by,” says Wayne Pickering, manager at Eric Eyre Funeral Service. “For many, a funeral has moved from being a sombre affair to a celebration of life – complete with all that you’d expect from any other celebration, including music, entertainment and laughter. That is why we are always on hand to offer guidance on the many ways we can add a personal touch, just let us know what you would like and we will do our utmost to meet your requirements.” “

With over 20 years’ experience of the industry, and many years’ previous experience with John Fairest, Wayne was offered the opportunity to join Eric as

manager in 2017, “I joined John Fairest as a hearse driver in 1997 and was later promoted to funeral director. It was there that I learnt how to arrange and conduct funerals, as well as the correct way to handle and line coffins and how to prepare the deceased for the family to pay their respects. This gave me a full scope of all aspects of the job and after ten years of service I was offered the position of manager at a new branch on Abbey Lane, which I accepted.

In September 2017 I was offered the opportunity to join the team at Eric Eyre’s and to ‘move back home’, as I say, as I live local to both branches. It was, and still is, a fantastic opportunity for me to grow and develop an already friendly family run business and provide our local community with a warm and compassionate service.”

Completing the team at High Green is Sharon Clayton and Kay Cooper, while Beverley Travis and Ruth Fenlon look after the branch at Sheffield Lane Top, which opened four years ago.

“Our aim is to be there for our clients in every way that we can and make sure that their loved one is sent on their final journey exactly as they would have wanted. Your first point of contact will be the person you deal with throughout the process and whether the death has occurred at home, in a hospital or elsewhere, we will guide from the initial arrangement all the way through to directing the funeral. We even provide help following the service, should you need any further support or guidance.”

started out in 2000, in a tiny store on Attercliffe Road, across the road from the Banners building, selling a range of items from TVs to exercise equipment, toys to pots and pans. The shop was an immediate success and within a couple of years gave

to bigger premises in the old Co-Op building on The Moor behind Redgates. The business traded here happily and successfully for several years until the council decided the building was required for other purposes.

In 2006 the company moved again to the old Doors and Floors Galore warehouse on Attercliffe Road and traded for around a year before the

the business to relocate, this time to a much larger location on Coleford Road in Darnall, where they are currently based. These premises are 50

times bigger than the original store and focusses solely on selling furniture. This also saw the business change names to Furniture Clearance Warehouse. Although all these years later, customers still refer to them as SWAG.

The business predominantly sells living room, dining room and bedroom furniture. Selling end of line, over stocks and exdisplay from the big multiple furniture stores. There is something to suit every budget.

The owner, David has decided after working long hours and weekends for the last 23 years to start a new chapter. With no one to take over the reins of the business, it will begin

a closing down sale starting Monday 19th September. This is by no means a business that is going bust, merely an owner who wants to dust of his passport and get to know his family in the daylight hours.

The sale will continue into the new year until all stock has gone. During this time all customers will receive their furniture and all orders will be

The owner is grateful for all the support and custom over the years and is looking forward to the next chapter.

Sale starts Monday 19th September at 10am - all stock reduced.

STEVE HACKETTFOXTROT AT FIFTy

I must admit to not being ultra-familiar with a lot of his solo work but the songs he did play were both interesting, complicated, and incredibly well performed. Then came the second half, where he and his band performed the entire FoxTrot Album.

Steve Hackett may not be a household name to a lot of people as say Eddie Van Halen is, but to those fans of Progressive Rock, Steve Hackett is a god. As a mat ter of fact, his explorations of two-handed tapping and sweep picking we way ahead of their time and influenced both Eddie Van Halen and Brian May as well as such guitar giants as Rush’s Alex Lifeson and Steve Rothery of Marillion.

Steve Hackett is an English guitarist, songwriter, singer, and record producer who gained prominence as the lead guitarist in Genesis from 1971-1977. Hackett contributed to six studio albums, three live albums, seven singles and one EP before he left the band to pursue his solo career.

On Friday Sept 30th, Steve Hackett and his band of consummate musicians brought their tour to The Sheffield City Hall. I am pleased to say that this paper provided me with two fantastic seats to the concert and I am still buzzed from it 5 days Later.

I’d like to mention the musician’s names as they each played a major role in bringing his music and that of Genesis to life.

They are Roger King- Keyboards, Rob Townsend-Sax, flute, Keyboards, percussion, bass pedals, Nad Sylvan-Vocals, Jonas Reingold- Bass, 12-string guitar, bass pedals, vocals, and finally Craig Blundell-drums, percussion, and vocals.

The concert was in two halves, Firstly Steve Hackett’s solo material and then the Foxtrot album in it’s entirety.

Hackett’s set list of his own music included: Ace of Wands, The Devil’s Cathedral, Spectral Mornings (my personal favourite) Every Day, A Tower Struck Down, Camino Royale and Shadow of the Hierophant (closing section only)

All these songs were sonically amazing and interesting, but my personal favourite was Spectral Mornings, which combined both Hackett’s virtuoso playing but with a very beautiful melodic soundscape.

Now I have been a fan of Genesis since I heard ‘Nursery Cryme in 1971. Foxtrot was released in 1972 and was I believe their first hit in the UK. Foxtrot contains an amazing line-up of songs which include Watcher of the Skies, Timetable, Get’em out by Friday, Can-Utility and the Coastliners, Horizons, Suppers Ready, Firth of Fifth, and lastly Myopia/Slogans/Los Endos.

It was extraordinary to see the entire Venue full of people singing the words to almost every one of these songs. I felt right at home among people who like me get such a buzz from this music, and who like me spent most of their youth and perhaps theirs lives playing the amazing albums by one of the world’s greatest bands.

It must be said that Hackett’s band are masters of their instruments and I have no idea how you would even begin to rehearse music this complicated and to get the exact sounds that were used on the album, but they did, and it was extraordinary.

If you were lucky enough to be there for this show then congratulations, if you missed it but wanted to be their condolences, and if you’ve never heard or listened to Steve Hackett or Genesis then you owe to yourself to check it out.

I want to add that while the performance of the Foxtrot album was awe inspiring, it needs to be said that full credit needs to be given to the guys that wrote and performed these songs. I defies belief that not only did they come with this stuff but that they are that good at playing them as well.

So, to Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks I say great work gentlemen.

Gig Review Words & Pic by Lewis Nitikman

Following the announcement of the UK’s new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak today, UKHospitality Chief Executive Kate Nicholls said: “This is a critical time for hospitality businesses as they battle soaring energy costs, workforce shortages and waning consumer confidence, so stable political leadership is absolutely critical.

“Now is the time to steady the economy, deliver for the needs of the country and support businesses to help drive growth and create jobs.

“Hospitality clearly displayed its ability to grow prior to the pandemic and was on the road to a strong recovery before the energy crisis hit. It can return to those levels through pragmatic decision-making that eases the acute challenges businesses are facing.

“We worked very closely with the new Prime Minister in his previous role and we look forward to working with him again to address the current strain on businesses and bolster consumer confidence. I would encourage him to extend business rates relief, reform the entire business rates system in the longer term and lower the current rate of VAT.”

Commenting on the news that Rishi Sunak will

become Leader of the Conservative Party and the next Prime Minister, CAMRA’s National Director Nik Antona said:

“I’d like to offer my congratulations to Rishi Sunak on behalf of CAMRA and our 160,000 members. We look forward to working with the new Prime Minister to tackle the crisis facing pubs, clubs, brewers and cider makers across the UK.

“I want to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to the Prime Minister to join me at the George and Dragon pub in his constituency to talk further about CAMRA’s aims for the beer and pub industry. This community owned pub, and previous winner of our prestigious ‘Pub of the Year’ award, is a fantastic example of everything a pub can be, and I believe it is urgent that UK’s pubs, social clubs, breweries, cider producers are made a priority by Government.

“The sector needs ongoing support on energy bills lasting beyond April 2023, the positive reforms from the Alcohol Duty Review to be implemented as quickly as possible, a cut on VAT for on-trade food and alcohol and reform of the business rates system.”

Drinkers back cask as greenest choice at the bar

New YouGov research commissioned by CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, has found that nearly 70% of consumers in the UK believe that having a draught beer or cider in a pub is the greenest way of enjoying a tipple.

Draught beer or cider served in a licensed premise such as a pub, social club or taproom is seen as the greenest option above and beyond consuming bottled or canned beer, cider, wine or spirits bought either in a licensed premises or in a supermarket or off-licence. Alongside being stored and served in reusable containers from barrel to glass, cask beer is usually brewed locally and served locally – cutting down on beer miles and helping drinkers discover new flavours with a local provenance.

The survey comes as CAMRA releases the 50th edition of its Good Beer Guide, which celebrates the very best pubs serving cask beer across the UK. This year’s Guide highlights the environmental benefits of choosing to drink cask beer and outlines how CAMRA aims to support sustainability initiatives across the sector.

Writing in the Guide, Campaigns Assistant Cam Waddell said: “Cask forms the ultimate circular economy with almost every part of the supply chain – from grain to

glass – being reused countless times. As a further benefit, much of this equipment is made from material that can be fully recycled at the end of its lifespan.”

She adds: “Stocking locally produced beers has a huge range of benefits for consumers in the trade: pub-goers get to enjoy distinctive local beer styles, it improves consumer choice and supports brewers with increased sales, which in turn creates more local jobs, and increasing the resilience of the local economy with more money being generated and spent in the area.”

The Campaigning organisation is throwing its weight behind initiatives to improve sustainability throughout the sector, such as calling for technology exemptions in Business Rates to allow businesses to invest in innovative energy generation and storage, supporting a ban on single-use plastic pints and campaigning for minimum juice content in cider to highlight the role orchards play in biodiversity.

CAMRA Chairman Nik Antona says: “Enjoying a pint of cask in your local is one of the most environmentally friendly ways to enjoy a drink and boasts a huge range of social and wellbeing benefits. It’s great to see that 69% of drinkers recognise that it is the best way to drink greener too – especially when you choose a local brewery or cider maker to cut down on carbon emissions when compared to imported products.”

“Traditional cask beer is a no-waste option with every element of the process from brewery to bar being able to be reused. That’s one of the many reasons beer drinkers can feel excited to use their Good Beer Guide to find their next pint – it’s the only Guide that showcases the very best in cask across the UK!”

United demonstrated tremendous character and belief to earn a deserved point against the odds on Saturday afternoon.

Teemu Pukki scored twice inside the opening 16 minutes, capitalising on defensive errors, but second half strikes from Ben Osborn and substitute Oli McBurnie rescued a point, with goalkeeper Adam Davies saving a late Pukki penalty late on to make up for his earlier slip.

Boss Heckingbottom made four changes for the clash against the Canaries.

Sharp, Fleck, Brewster and McAtee all returned to the starting XI, as Ndiaye, McBurnie and Doyle all dropped to the bench where they were joined by youngster Buyabu.

United got off to the worst possible start, falling behind after just three minutes as PUKKI chased down Basham’s back pass and charged the attempted clearance by Davies into the empty net. The Blades forced a couple of corners looking for a response but

fell further behind on 16 minutes as PUKKI got his second, slotting past Davies having got the better of Ahmedhodžić.

An open contest was seeing chances come at both ends, Davies produced a crucial save to deny Sargent at one end to keep United in the contest, before Brewster headed wide at the other from Osborn’s cross. Gunn was called into action twice more before the interval denying Norwood and Osborn either side of yellow cards for Hayden and Cantwell.

United made a positive change at the break with Ndiaye replacing McAtee and after Hanley was booked for kicking out at Sharp, the Senegalese star saw an effort blocked before firing over. But on 62 minutes the Blades gave themselves genuine hope as OSBORN kept his composure to score at the back post after Sharp had done well to fashion an opening from Baldock’s pass into the box.

Giannoulis was finally booked following numerous fouls and on 72 minutes as the atmosphere ramped up, United equalised. Egan headed across the face of goal from Norwood’s pinpoint centre and MCBURNIE put everything on the line to slid home at the back post.

In response, Nunez fired over after good work by substitute Hernandez.

United’s final change saw Khadra replace Sharp after the skipper had fired over on the turn, with Baldock’s tackle on Nunez key to starting the attack, the City midfielder was booked for his actions afterwards.

McBurnie had a header saved by Gunn, before referee Smith looked to have given Norwich the ideal chance to win the game, pointing to the spot for a foul by Egan on Gibbs. Thankfully though, Davies guessed the right way and made a strong save to keep the scores level and deny Pukki his hat-trick.

Seven minutes of injurytime gave United renewed hope of winning the contest, but Gunn’s heroics in City’s goal denied McBurnie with another header meaning the spoils were shared in another action-packed encounter at S2.

mOORE RUES mISSED CHANCES

The overriding thought was clear as Darren Moore addressed the media after his side were pegged back at Lincoln –two points dropped. Wednesday dominated large parts of the game and were good value for the 1-0 lead at half time. But they were caught cold immediately after the restart and paid for their profligacy in the final analysis.

Moore said: “It’s two points dropped today, there’s no doubt about that. We came here to win the game and we should have won the game. “We’ve had the perfect

start and then created so many chances but you have to take them and today we didn’t.

“Lincoln only had one chance really and they scored from it while we were wasteful and that’s the story of the game.

“I’ve seen the stats, we’ve had 16 shots and we have to be better in front of goal.”

Ben Heneghan turned in a trademark display of authority at the heart of the rearguard before going down with injury in the second half.

And Moore confessed to a nervous day or two ahead before the full prognosis

is delivered on the big defender’s knee.

“He’s the worry for me,” said Moore. “He’s come off in pain, he was helped off the pitch and he’s in there now with ice on the

injury. We need for it to settle down over the next day or two, we will get the report from the medical department but yes, right now it’s a worry.”

CLUB STATEmENT: RHIAN BREwSTER

It is with regret that Sheffield United have to report that striker Rhian Brewster has been the subject of racial abuse via social media.

Rhian is a member of the Blades family and the club is disgusted by the messages, which have been reported to the police and Instagram. He will now be offered support and assistance as we push the relevant authorities to ensure the person behind these posts is brought to justice.

Sheffield United has a zero-tolerance approach

to racism and any form of discrimination. It is currently Black History Month and Rhian recently took part in a special podcast alongside fellow players Wes Foderingham and Courtney SweetmanKirk to discuss a wide range of topics, including racism in the game today. Additionally, the club is continuing to support police as we look for a resolution to the alleged racial comments made towards defender Kyron Gordon following the Sky Bet Championship fixture at Hull City in September.

mILLER: DRAw IS A GREAT FOUNDATION

George Miller labelled Rovers’ 1-1 draw at Crewe Alexandra ‘a great starting point’ for life under new head coach Danny Schofield. The squad had only two days to work under Schofield following his appointment on Thursday morning.

But Miller - who scored Rovers’ equaliser after having earlier missed a penalty - felt there were positive signs of the players implementing the new head coach’s ideas during the game.

Miller on how the game played out: “The gaffer has come in with only two days and given us a plan that he’s put together and I think that was probably one of our best performances.

“We had chance to win it but a point away from

wE jUST COULDN’T TAKE CONTROL OF THE GAmETAyLOR

Millers boss Matt Taylor conceded that his side got what their performance deserved as they were beaten 4-2 by Hull City in the Sky Bet Championship. After a colossal effort at Stoke City in midweek -

home, you can’t complain at that.

“I think in spells of play, we played some good football. Some good transitions when we won the ball back and I think a lot of lads knew what they were doing and had a good idea what others were doing as well.

“It was a good watch.

On his penalty miss: “I’d say it was a bad pen rather than a good save. He’s done his job and then I’ve fluffed the header so it was a bad 30 seconds but I move on.

“I picked my spot and put it there. I might have over-thought it a bit but it’s just onto the next one and I’ll try to score that.

“It doesn’t really affect me because I’ve stepped up to take it and I know another chance will come, which it did.”

in a game which saw the Millers record maximum points - the Millers manager admitted that his side were unable to take control of the fixture at AESSEAL New York Stadium on Saturday...

“They were impressive, we weren’t. We weren’t there today. We were a yard short all over the pitch. We ended up chasing the opposition team in the first half.

“The same patterns occurred in that second half. We lacked control at any stage in the game. When we couldn’t cover the ground out of possession, it meant that in possession we went ‘forced’. It was

On his goal: “I’ve got a lot more positive thoughts about that one.

“I told Biggo [Harrison Biggins] that when he gets it to turn and pass It through because they were quite expansive. When they had possession, they were really wide and could struggle to get back in.

“I told Biggo on the half turn to slide us in, which he did. The keeper has come racing out and I’ve just tucked it in nicely.

“Initially I was going to go around in but because he’s committed and gone narrow I just put it around him.

“I think that’s my game and it’s probably the first time this season that I’ve been able to run onto a through ball and go oneon-one with the keeper.

“It was a great pass from

uncharacteristic from us all over the pitch.

“Some aspects you expect from the effort and performance they put in on Tuesday. That’s not an excuse.

“Tuesday took so much out of them. We tried to freshen it up before the game and tried to freshen it up at half time and as the game went on.

“We give the opposition full credit but we weren’t good enough today.

“They [Dan Balaser and Georgie Kelly] were a couple of the standouts today. Dan a constant quality and we need more of that and Georgie will always give us something. He’s got

Biggo and I’ve finished it off.

On an eventful week at the club:

“It’s been very tough.

Chad [Gribble] and Green [Paul Green] came in on Monday and Tuesday and worked us really hard which was good.

“Then the gaffer came in and got loads of information into us and got a plan going.

“It’s been good. That’s the outcome after two days of working with him so god knows what it will be after two weeks.

“It’s a great foundation and a good starting point,. We can only build from that as he gives us more information. Hopefully it’ll be onwards and upwards.”

another goal and he’s probably going to get a run of games and that’s probably coming pretty soon.

“He adds a certain endeavour. His game isn’t perfect, but if there’s something that I can count on at certain times in the game, he has something that I can rely on and that’s the same with Dan.

“I’m constantly learning about the group. I learn about them when they win away at Stoke and take all the plaudits and I learn about them today.”

“I am constantly assessing what is needed and we will have to freshen it up again on Tuesday.”
