A study commissioned by The FA, UEFA and UK Sport to measure the impact of UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 has shown that Sheffield as a host city of the tournament has benefitted from an £8.3million boost to the local economy. In line with the aims of the tournament UEFA Women’s EURO delivered on every level in Sheffield, bringing in thousands of fans from across Europe, inspiring hundreds more women and girls locally to get in to football, uniting communities, setting new records, broadcasting the city across the world and bringing millions into the local economy.

Sheffield hosted three

group C fixtures, between Netherlands, Switzerland and Sweden plus that amazing semi-final between England and Sweden which gave spectators one of the most memorable moments of the tournament ‘that back heel’.

The city was awash with colour as thousands of visiting fans took over bars and pubs and gathered for the pre-match fan parties at Devonshire Green, before taking their spectacular fan walks to the stadium.

Testament to the city’s stacked up credentials as the home of football, three new tournament attendance records were made at WEURO2022 fixtures in Sheffield – highest

attendance for a non-host nation fixture – twice – and highest ever semi-final attendance.

On the weekend of Sheffield’s opening fixture between Netherlands and Sweden, city centre footfall increased by more than 10,000 (22%) and all of the city’s hotel rooms were fully booked.

Councillor Martin Smith, Chair of the Economic Development and Skills committee at Sheffield City Council, said: “When we bid for events like UEFA Women’s EURO, we’re making a huge commitment on behalf of the city and some people wonder why we do it. Well, here’s eight

million reasons, and that’s on top of the many other benefits we’ve all seen firsthand over the summer.

“Exciting and inspiring world class sport live in our local stadium, three new attendance records set by Sheffield, thousands of visiting fans enjoying the city, Sheffield shown on TV screens across the world’s media, people coming together to celebrate the list goes on.

“More importantly though is the many women and girls who’ve now been inspired to get in to football either playing, coaching, refereeing or just watching for the fun of it. We couldn’t be happier or prouder to have been a part

of this and achieving such a significant boost to our local economy, more than double what we had hoped for, makes it even sweeter.

“With the cost-of-living crisis and over-stretched budgets we’re often asked about the future of events in the city. But we’re ambitious for Sheffield and we understand how culture, sport and leisure go hand in hand to strengthen our economy and improve the health and wellbeing of our population. Being able to back that up with the findings of this study supports our approach and inspires us to keep striving to attract the highest calibre of events to Sheffield.”

ShEFFIElD INDIE-ROCkERS lITTlE MAN TATE RETURN FOR ThEIR FIRST hEADlINE TOUR IN NEARlY 15 YEARS

reforming last year for two triumphant hometown comeback shows, Sheffield staples and indie-rock icons Little Man Tate will be hitting the road again next Spring for an 11 date UK headline tour, calling in at the o2 Academy on Arundel Gate on Friday 5th May 2023.

Kicking off in Carlisle on 20 April 2023, the tour comes in the wake of two riotous appearances at Victorious and Tramlines festival, as well as a recent tour supporting The Enemy across the UK.

Ready to set the nation alight all over again, tickets are on sale from Friday 21

October at 10am. Recapturing the same magic all these years later, last year’s reunion shows saw Little Man Tate pick up exactly where they left off as they geared up to embark on a new and exciting chapter together.

Stalwarts of Sheffield’s famously thriving noughties indie scene, Little Man Tate rubbed shoulders with the likes of Bromheads Jacket, Milburn, Reverend & The Makers and Arctic Monkeys to put the Steel City back on the musical map.

Forming in 2005, the band announced themselves with infectious first single “The Agent”, with a sold-

out vinyl run instantly lapped up by almost 2000 fans quick to recognise something special in the making.

Followed by unprecedented Top 40 hit “What? What You Got?”, Little Man Tate were earmarked as one of the UK’s hottest prospects igniting a bidding war amongst multiple record labels. Signing with V2 Records in 2006, the band invaded the UK Top 40 once more with their string of singles including “House Party At Boothy’s” and “Sexy In Latin”. Their sensational debut album ‘About What You Know’ also climbed to #27 in the

UK Albums Chart. Staking their place as a must-see on the live circuit, Little Man Tate stepped up to huge slots at festivals such as Reading and Leeds, and played a momentous pre-Christmas show at the iconic Empress Ballroom in Blackpool.

Swiftly following up their debut, 2008 saw the band release their second and final album ‘Nothing Worth Having Comes Easy’, before making the difficult decision to part ways. Playing two phenomenal sold-out shows at Sheffield’s O2 Academy, Little Man Tate bowed out of music with a bang.

From conquering the dancefloors of the indie discos to putting popstars out of place in the UK charts, Little Man Tate achieved in just four years what most band’s could only dream of. And now the band’s original lineup —

Jon Windle, Edward ‘Maz’ Marriott, Ben Surtees and Dan Fields — are ready to do it all again. Full dates and details below.

Tickets go on O2 Presale on Wednesday 19 October at 10am then general sale on Friday 21 October at 10am.

Last ditch efforts are underway to try and halt the impending closure of Doncaster Sheffield Airport. (DSA) Operations at DSA are due to begin winding down from the end of this month, after owner Peel Group concluded the airport – which employs about 800 people – is not financially viable.

Doncaster Mayor, Ros Jones, has today – 13 October – confirmed she and South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard have written to Peel Group to urge them to seriously consider offers for the purchase of the airport. And she added: “This week we have also made it clear to them [Peel] that if there is no collaborative arrangement for the airport’s future due to their unreasonable closure timescale, Doncaster Council is prepared to initiate the process for a Compulsory Purchase Order of the airport and investigate if we can go to the courts for a Judicial Review of Peel’s decision to close.”

Peel confirmed last month that it would go ahead with shutting down DSA, despite strong objections from regional leaders, local politicians and business representatives. Robert Hough, chairman of Peel Airports, said: “The intractable problem remains the fundamental and insufficient lack of current or prospective revenue streams, together with the airport’s high operating costs.” The business said it would not accept any public sector grant to cover the costs of an airport that is not viable due to its lack of adequate forward revenues and high operating costs. And it pointed out it had

received “no tangible proposals” for DSA’s future.

Peel Group argued that accepting funds from South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority to prop up DSA may only postpone the inevitable for another 13 months. However, Jones has responded that “highly interested parties” want to progress a potential purchase. She said: “They have the commercial and financial pedigree Peel demands ranging from an overseas conglomerate of businesses and investors, a large global asset investment business to a regional airport owner/operator. We have already shared their details and credentials with Peel. Now we need Peel to be reasonable and give them the time they have asked for to have those detailed negotiations. These investors see a future for DSA and want to negotiate with Peel but need more time to complete complex legal and financial requirements. Peel needs to reconsider the closure and stop winding down DSA. They need to accept the public sector offer to cover their losses for 13 months while negotiations of a sale are progressed and concluded. We have also offered to extend that period within which the financial support could be used to 24 months. The issue we have is that Peel is a reluctant seller. They have not put DSA on the market or actively sought new owners. We urgently need the Prime Minister to step in, use her powers and her influence to prevent closure.”

HElpING THE HOMElEss

Over thirty homeless people have been successfully housed since the council launched a scheme to reduce longterm rough sleeping in Sheffield.

The Housing First project finds homes for people who have been repeatedly homeless and has settled 38 tenants, a rate of almost two per month, since it first started in December 2020. Sheffield City Council is providing the accommodation for this project, which relies on multi-agency support for its success.

Rachael Martin, Housing Solutions Officer, said: “It’s really exciting when we take someone to view a flat for the first time. You can see them imagining what it would be like to live there and it’s so much fun setting it up with them and making it feel like a home.”

What is Housing First?

Housing First is an international housing and support approach that helps people into a stable home and provides extensive personalised support from which to rebuild their lives. It provides support with everyday tasks like arranging health appointments, going food shopping and finding local clubs and activities.

Jonathan, known to his friends as ‘Scouse’, was sleeping rough for many years before the Housing First team helped find his current flat. He said:

“One of the reasons why I wanted to get a flat in the first place was so that I’ve got somewhere that my daughter can come to visit me and stay. And it has helped improve my relationship with her.”

To coincide with World homeless day, we are pleased to announce the start of our winter 2022 fundraising campaign! We all know that Christmas can be a lonely time for many, particularly if you’re homeless or without family support. HARC (Homeless and Rootless at Christmas) has been providing a safe and warm day shelter over the Christmas period for over thirty years, offering free meals, a warm environment, company and essential clothing. On average, our HARC team of volunteers welcome around 100 guests each day during the week we are open. The project is totally funded by donations and is proud to be ‘for Sheffield residents, supported by Sheffield residents.’ This year we are hoping people will be able to give one more gift for Christmas and are looking for people to help us in one of two ways:

1. Fundraising: Run a race, hold a bake sale or shake a bucket at a carol concert - no idea is a bad idea! Once they’ve raised funds, they can donate the money to HARC via PayPal, and it will be used to pay for the venue we hire (Victoria Hall), high quality food (PJ Taste) and some essential staffing. We also gift other charities providing support to homeless and rootless people in Sheffield throughout the year.

2. Donations: This year, our clothing collection will be open from Wednesday 30th November and will close on Saturday 17th December. Donations can be made at Ben’s Bazaar 1 Rockingham Gate, Sheffield S1 4JD. This year we are asking for the following donations(new or in good condition) Mens jeans, joggers, sweatshirts, casual tops, trainers, boots and coats and a much smaller number of similar items of women’s clothing. New socks and underwear.

3. Volunteering: Applications for volunteers opens today! We are looking for general volunteers and shift leaders along with singers, magicians or people who like a game of bingo and have a few hours to spare over the Christmas period and would like to help entertain our guests. When other services close for a well-earned rest, we step in to provide breakfast (8.30-10.00am) and lunch (12.00-1.30pm) every day from Christmas Day to New Years Day. Due to the fire at the Archer Centre, this year we will be hosting guests at Victoria Hall, George Street Entrance, Sheffield S1 2PF.

QUITTING smoking brings a multitude of health benefits, from improving your lung capacity to lowering your chances of heart attack, but many people aren’t aware that giving up the bad habit also significantly reduces risks to your sight and hearing. That’s why Specsavers is encouraging Yorkshire smokers to take part in Stoptober, where smokers give up cigarettes for a whole month, to show it’s possible to give up the habit for good.

According to research, former smokers who stop smoking for 28 days are five times as likely to quit for good - so what are you waiting for? Explaining the impact smoking has on your eyes, Giles Edmonds, Specsavers clinical services director, says: “Studies have shown that smoking can double your chances of developing cataracts, triple the chances of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), increase the risk of uveitis (inflammation of the middle layer of the eye) and double the risk of diabetes, which in turn could lead to diabetic retinopathy.”

While tobacco smokers remain the most at risk of developing AMD, research also indicates that vapour from

e-cigarettes can cause irritation and lead to dry eye syndrome. Smoking can also damage your hearing, with smokers being as much as 70% more likely to suffer with hearing loss than non-smokers. Gordon Harrison, Specsavers chief audiologist, says: ‘Smoking can have a real impact on your hearing as nicotine lowers blood oxygen levels which constricts blood vessels in the body. ‘This can cause problems for your inner ear, which is where the sensitive hair cells live. These hair cells help conduct sound to your brain but if there is a lack of blood flow these can become damaged or destroyed. Unfortunately, once damaged, they cannot be restored, so neither can any hearing loss which results from this.’

He adds: ‘The harmful toxins found in cigarettes can also damage neurotransmitters in the brain which help interpret sound and in some cases tinnitus can also occur as nicotine can bring on a phantom ‘ringing’ sound.’

Alongside the Stoptober challenge, many people choose to go ‘Go Sober for October’ and reducing consumption also benefits sight and hearing.

SINGLE TRIP UP TO 99 YEARS

Annual multi trip

The council’s Housing First project has now been guaranteed until at least May 2025 thanks to nearly £1.5 million of new funding from the Government’s Rough Sleeping Initiative.

A resident’s survey was also carried out to find out what people from Host City felt about the tournament. 95% of those surveyed locally said they’d be supportive of future major sports events being held in Sheffield.

celebrating 100 years oF Flying scotsman

As Flying Scotsman goes on show at London Kings Cross last weekend, Doncaster is gearing up for a number of celebratory events next year as 2023 marks the centenary of construction of this iconic locomotive in Doncaster.

Cllr Nigel Ball, Cabinet Member for Public Health, Leisure, Culture and Planning said: “Doncaster has an incredibly proud rail heritage and we will always be associated with Flying Scotsman - the world’s most famous steam locomotive.

“Next February will mark 100 years since Flying Scotsman embarked on its first voyage from the sheds at Doncaster Works and we will be holding special events with the National Railway Museum in York to celebrate this milestone.”

It was the first steam loco in the UK to officially reach 100mph. A new children’s book, Flying Scotsman and the Best Birthday Ever (Thames & Hudson), by one of the UK’s best-loved authors and storytellers, Michael Morpurgo, and illustrated by the internationally renowned children’s book illustrator and author Michael Foreman, will be

released to begin the centenary campaign. Cllr Ball added: “I am delighted that the original illustrations by Michael Foreman will be featured in a special exhibition at Doncaster Gallery, Library and Museum next February before going on tour around the country.

“Many of our Doncaster residents will have memories, stories and images of Flying Scotsman throughout the years. The National Railway Museum would love to see and hear these as part of their exhibition to express the impact and legacy of Flying Scotsman.”

Please visit www.railwaymuseum.org.uk/flyingscotsman/your-moments-and-memories if you have a personal story or photo that you would like to share on what Flying Scotsman means to you.

More information about the centenary events is available at www.railwaymuseum.org.uk/flyingscotsman

Delay to Fargate containers

Richard Eyre, Director of Streetscene and Regulations, has issued a statement after learning that the Fargate containers were not going to be opening on Monday, October 17, as expected. He said: “I’m extremely disappointed to announce the container park on Fargate will not be opening on Monday as hoped. Unfortunately, our building control teams are awaiting technical information from the operator. Until the outstanding information is received the container park cannot open. This information is national legislation needed for any building and the operator is legally required to provide it before the attraction can be opened to the public.

“I know many people have been looking forward to heading down, trying out the food and browsing

the independent shops. We are equally as disappointed as many others will be. The structure is built and ready to go and we are really looking forward to welcoming people through the doors.

There are some fantastic local independent traders lined up to showcase their businesses and I am certain once open the container park will be one of Sheffield’s top spots.”

For info

• The Building Control team awaits technical information from the operator.

• This is national legislation.

Once this information is received the container park can open.

Sheffield City Council has no control over the operator providing the documents but has been assisting the operator wherever possible.

• All the businesses affected have been informed.

Sheffield City Council says it is doing all it can to help the operator get ready to open the doors and showcase some of the amazing local independent traders inside. Once the documents are received an opening date will be agreed. An update will be provided as soon as possible.

Games and sports have long been an integral feature of Union clubs with many elite players in such sports as darts, snooker, pool and bowls, honing their skills in CIU venues before going on to achieve international success.

Indeed, the CIU is one of the biggest organisers of sporting competition in the UK with trophies being competed for at both National and Branch level. Each year, the CIU runs National Championships in Team Darts, Team Pool, Team Snooker, Individual Snooker, Individual Darts, Individual Pool, Dominoes 5s and 3s, Dominoes Straights and Cribbage Pairs. As well as a trophy, the winner of each category also receives a cash prize.

However, since the COVID-19 shutdown, the number of entries to the National Championships has dropped significantly. “Games and sport are the lifeblood of many of our clubs and an important part of traditional club life, whether that be teams competing in their local leagues or taking part in CIU events at National or Branch level,” said Union Vice-President Ken Roberts CMD ACM.

“I know many clubs have been working extremely hard to get their teams back up and running after the

pandemic and as an organisation we are determined to build on their efforts and revitalise the CIU National Championships.

“We are actively asking more clubs to enter teams and individuals across the many categories of games and sports events run by the CIU.

“Participating in the Union games offers a great opportunity to boost trade, particularly on occasions when the club is quiet. It is also a great opportunity to visit and meet fellow clubs in other areas.

“The NEC is currently looking at ways to make the competitions more attractive to clubs and we’d love to hear any suggestions for changing the formats of the championships to stimulate greater participation.

“Entry fees for the competitions are very modest and are all returned as prize money and are topped up with Union subsidies.

“Of course this is only possible if we get the support of Union clubs. I urge you to get behind the Recreation programme which has been a major part of the Union’s history over many decades.”

For more information on the competitions being run by the Union, visit: www.wmciu.org.uk

After this week’s happenings in parliament CAMRA has issued comments on the Chancellor’s statement of the Medium-Term Fiscal Plan.

Responding to the Chancellor’s statement, CAMRA Chief Executive Tom Stainer said:

“The UK’s pubs and breweries are facing crippling energy costs which are already forcing some businesses to shut up shop for the winter months to ride out unaffordable bills – or close down altogether. “Pubs already under serious pressure now face further uncertainty about what support will be available with gas and electric bills beyond April next year. The Prime Minister had previously said that pubs would be one of the businesses that would get extra support beyond the six-month period. The Chancellor must urgently confirm whether or not this is still the case. “Scrapping the planned freeze on alcohol duty is disappointing, although it is useful to have confirmation that plans to change the alcohol duty system next summer – including a lower rate of duty on draught beer and cider to support pubs and pubgoing – are still going ahead.

“CAMRA are calling on the Chancellor to use his next statement on 31st October to rethink the freeze on

alcohol duty – as well as announcing desperately needed help in the form of cutting VAT for on-trade

Let’s try and describe that then... an actionpacked afternoon at Bramall Lane ends in stalemate against Blackpool is the easiest way.

James McAtee and Iliman Ndiaye put the Blades two up inside 23 minutes, only for a Jerry Yates double to restore parity before half-time. Kenny Dougall then put the visitors ahead before an unbelievably dramatic end to the contest resulted in Ollie Norwood volleying home for a point after Blackpool had two players sent off and Rhian Brewster had struck the woodwork with a penalty. Foderingham and Lavery then were dismissed after full-time.

Boss Heckingbottom made three changes for the home clash against the Tangerines, as Baldock, Sharp and Osborn all started. McBurnie and Ahmedhodžić returned amongst the substitutes, where they were joined for the first time this season but the fit-again

Robinson.

United had the ball in the net inside the opening two minutes, but Doyle’s tap-in was ruled out after McAtee had slipped in Sharp. But on eight minutes, the Blades did take the lead as MCATEE bundled the ball home on the run after Sharp had cushioned Doyle’s excellent cross into his path. At the other end, Blackpool threatened a response, but Madine volleyed over from Lavery’s cross.

Midway through the first-half, United looked to have seized control as NDIAYE headed home at the near post after Maxwell could only parry Norwood’s low cross into his path after a corner wasn’t cleared properly.

But on the half hour, the visitors gave themselves hope and YATES held off Osborn to head home at the back post from Dougall’s cross.

Sharp was unconvincingly denied by Maxwell, before the visiting goalkeeper

redeemed himself as he tipped Doyle’s goal bound effort over at the expense of a corner. And on 42 minutes that save proved even more crucial as YATES volleyed home his second after the lively Lavery had got the better of Norrington-Davies. The start of the second half couldn’t have gone much worse for United as Egan inadvertently deflected a ball into the path of DOUGALL who fired past Foderingham. This was before the game really came to life!

Ekpiteta and Baldock were cautioned within a minute of other, before Heckingbottom made a triple change.

Brewster, McBurnie and Ahmedhodžić were introduced, but the Bosnian defender and Norwood were then booked at the same time for committing fouls as Blackpool broke.

Doyle was the next Blade to be cautioned, before Ekpiteta was dismissed for a lunge on Brewster

and Thompson quickly followed him off the field for kicking the ball at Ahmedhodžić. Egan hit the side-netting, McBurnie saw a header excellently tipped over before referee Webb pointed to the spot as Yates pulled back Ahmedhodžić, but from 12 yards, Brewster rattled the woodwork.

Maxwell’s heroics denied McBurnie again, with Brewster unable to convert on the rebound.

Ahmedhodžić then had the ball in the back of the net only for the assistant referee to deny him.

Connolly then blatantly handled the ball from one of many corners that were raining in, but in the eighth minute of added time, NORWOOD volleyed home through a crowded penalty area to rescue a share of the spoils, before things turned nasty in the aftermath, with Foderingham and Lavery dismissed for their involvements.

LoCaL FirSt roUNd Fa CUP tieS

The Owls will host Morecambe in the first round of the Emirates FA Cup.

The cup-tie will be played between Friday 4 November and Monday 7 November.

It will be the second time the two sides have met this season.

Wednesday picked up three points with a 3-0 victory in the League One meeting at the Mazuma Stadium back in September.

The fixture date and ticket details will be announced in due course.

Doncaster Rovers have been drawn to face King’s Lynn Town at home in the Emirates FA Cup first round.

The Linnetts currently sit top of the National League North after losing just one of their opening 11 league games.

Rovers beat Scunthorpe United 1-0 at the first round stage last season, with Tommy Rowe scoring the winner at Glanford Park.

The tie against King’s Lynn will be played over the weekend of November 4-7.

Moore: ‘We did What We had to do’

Lee Gregory’s brace guided Wednesday to the cusp of the top two as Cambridge were overcome 2-0 at the Abbey Stadium.

Darren Moore said his side ‘did what they had to do’ and although the manager

said there was room for improvement, the points were the most important part of the day.

He told swfc.co.uk: “It’s another three points and another clean sheet. We did what we had to do. When I look at the game, we could have used the ball better but we’ve come here for the win and we go home with the win.

“I’m pleased for Lee Gregory because his form has been fine but we know strikers are judged on goals, and that’s what he got today.

“We had a chat in midweek and I told him to be patient, the goals will come.”

At the other end of the field, the Cambridge shutout was Wednesday’s eighth from 14

league games and a breach never looked in doubt on Saturday.

Moore said: “We were dogged and determined, very resolute. As the second half went on, you could hear the players encouraging each other, wanting that clean sheet.

“I thought the defenders were outstanding today.

Cambridge are top of the table in terms of crosses coming into the box and we nullified a lot of that.

“The clean sheet is another positive. Cambridge had a lot of the ball but I don’t recall David Stockdale having too many saves to make.

“So it’s three more points, it’s another win, we draw a line through it now and move on to the cup game on Tuesday.”

ithoUGht We deSerVed it

Rotherham United boss Matt Taylor was full of praise for his side after he recorded his first win as the manager of his new club with a 2-1 triumph over Huddersfield Town at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

“I thought we deserved it. “I thought we started the game really well and scored and excellent goal. We have to improve the aspect

of some of our set piece moments and we can say that it is well-worked from the opposition, but we can see that danger out better than we did in that moment and hold onto the lead longer than we did in the first half.

“They’ve not really worked the ball through our core, which is the most pleasing aspect of today and Georgie is in the right place at the

roVerS

right time in that second half period.

“As much as he’ll get the credit and the plaudits Tom [Eaves] put in a great effort in taking the eyes and the efforts of the centre halves’ bodies for a large portion of the game and Georgie came on and did what he did.

“It was pretty much a full house and a Yorkshire derby.

As always we’ll be judged on our home form in front

of our biggest following and hopefully they saw another committed performance with certain moments in terms of our principles which are improving. “I want the lads to keep trusting themselves and control the game for longer, but second half, barring one save from our goalkeeper and a disallowed goal, I thought that we were quite comfortable.”

With Gary MCSheFFrey

Doncaster Rovers can confirm the dismissal of Gary McSheffrey from the position of first team manager with immediate effect, with assistant manager Steve Eyre also leaving the club.

Chairman David Blunt said: “While results so far in Sky Bet League Two have been largely positive, there has been a growing concern over the standard of performances in matches and a lack of progress between games.

“We feel this is threatening our ability to achieve our stated goals

CL aytoN bL aMeS iNdiVidUaL errorS

Adam Clayton blamed individual errors for costing Rovers the chance to fight their way back into the game at Carlisle United. Rovers were a goal down at the break but slumped to a three goal deficit by 66

for the season.

“We have also been disappointed that our wishes for a particular style of play and overall identity, which were clearly laid out over the summer, have not been brought into effect in competitive matches.

“These factors have combined to lead us to take this difficult decision to relieve Gary and Steve of their posts.

“We are confident the squad that has been assembled is more than capable of challenging for promotion with an entertaining and

minutes. You don’t like to lose a game, especially one that we were more than in. They scored in a very good and competitive first half where we missed a great chance with their keeper making a great save. They scored a great goal.

“We went in at half time quite pleased with how it was. It was a proper game and an enjoyable one to play in.

“But with individual errors we were out of the game before we could start to get

attacking approach, and have reached a consensus that change is required in order to ensure we have the best chance of doing so.

“The process of securing a replacement is already well underway and we are hopeful for a swift resolution to our recruitment process.

We expect to conclude interviews this week with an appointment to be made soon afterwards.

“Our heartfelt thanks go to Gary for his dedicated service to the club as a player, coach and latterly manager. He

back in it.

“We’d started the second half and had the first five to ten minutes, getting plenty of crosses in, but they scored from us attacking.

“We need to nip that in the bud and that’s on us as players. It’s something we’re trying to do.”

On Rovers’ trend of not leading at half time:

“In terms of our preparation for games, the warm-ups are really good. They’re really loud and noisy. The dressing

initially stepped up to first team level in difficult circumstances and has carried himself with class and dignity throughout his tenure as manager.

“All at the club wish both Gary and Steve the very best for their futures.”

Head professional development phase coach Chad Gribble and youth development phase transition coach Paul Green will oversee first team training until a new appointment has been made, supported by the remaining existing backroom staff.

room is good before a game. “Maybe it comes down to confidence. Getting after it from the start before waiting to see what the opposition team has got.

“That is on us individually and as a team to see if we can be on the front foot more.

“It’s something we need to work on. If we do get ourselves in front, we’ve got the team and the players to manage the game and then get our passing game going.”
