DONCASTER SHEFFIELD AIRPORT TO CLOSE

Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) is to close after its owner said “no tangible proposals” had been received regarding its future ownership. Peel Group said the closure was due to a “fundamental lack of financial viability”.

South Yorkshire’s Mayor Oliver Coppard said: “I’m devastated by today’s announcement by Peel and angry about the impact it will have on our communities. Most importantly, there are

hundreds of people across Doncaster and South Yorkshire who will now be frightened for their future.

“For years, we have been investing public money in and around DSA to support the airport, including providing emergency funding through the pandemic. Since the announcement by Peel that they were entering into a review of DSA, we have done everything we could to constructively and proactively find a

path forward. We have identified market interest, brought potential investors to the table, and last week we offered them a deal to project the jobs and livelihoods of DSA staff, and to give Peel the time and space to negotiate with new investors.

“The fact that they chose to turn our offer down simply confirms what many of us suspected: that Peel was never serious about finding an alternative and safeguarding the future

of DSA. It is still not too late for them to do the right thing; for them to reconsider their decision for the sake of those employees, businesses and communities directly impacted by this appalling decision. But ultimately if they cannot be stopped from taking this course of action then our focus will shift to supporting our communities through the next few difficult weeks and months. The only people who can now intervene

to keep DSA operational are national Government.

Liz Truss said she would protect the airport. Now is the moment to turn those words into action. We stand ready to work with the Government. Despite everything, I am proud of how our community has come together over the past few months in our efforts to protect the future of the airport. I remain steadfast in my commitment to an ambitious plan for Doncaster and South Yorkshire, and those impacted by Peel’s decision today will be at the forefront of my efforts.”

ARCTIC MONKEYS ANNOUNCE HUGE HOMETOWN SHOWS

After returning to performing live in Yorkshire this summer with their headline performance at Leeds Festival tickets go on sale this week for Arctic Monkeys return to Sheffield.

After a few years of speculation (social media has seen several false dawns in the past after council licensing notices appeared on lamp posts in the area) the band will be performing two huge outdoor shows in Hillsborough Park on the 9th & 10th of June of next year, their first tour dates in the city since the sell out performances at the Utilita Arena in September 2018.

Tickets for the shows go on sale at 9am on Friday 30th September, with a fan pre-sale beginning at 9am on September 29th. Those who pre-order ‘The Car’ from

the band’s official webstore before 3pm on Wednesday 28th September will get access to the fan pre-sale.

Sheffield City Councillor, Richard Williams, chair of the communities, parks and leisure policy committee, said: “As local lads themselves the Arctic Monkeys were very keen to play in such an iconic location in terms of their music and their roots and they are passionate about coming back and giving back to the area.”

Coun Williams also said all “surplus income generated by the hire of the land” will be reinvested in Hillsborough Park.

Recently Alex Turner has said the band no longer feels the need to “prove yourself as much” after two decades of making music.

“It probably does feel about 20 years ago, but that’s an interesting one, isn’t it?

Because sometimes you feel like you could walk through a door and be right back there.

“I’m trying to scratch a little bit of that feeling here on the new record. It feels like a long time ago, but it can be right behind you. Something reminds you and it takes you back.

“There’s a lyric on Hello You that says, ‘I could pass for 17 if I just get a shave and catch some zzzzs’. Maybe that’s barking up that tree a little? Well, a lot.

“I’m thinking about going to the snooker club with my granddad and it feels like we were just there – but, wait a minute, there’s all this time in between.”

Speaking about the early stages of the band’s success

Turner said: “At the time it happened very quickly and was a shock to the system. We topped the charts for the first time and everything became quite different very quickly.

“But there was always a feeling that this could be over in a few months: the bottom is going to fall out

any minute.

“I’m thinking about you mentioning (2006 track) The View From The Afternoon. We’ve been playing (it) in these last few shows (and) when I’m doing that, it feels like it would take more than a shave and a sleep to feel 17!”

The band’s seventh album

The Car is scheduled to be released on October 21st.

Tickets for the shows go on sale at 9am on Friday 30th September, with a fan pre-sale beginning at 9am on September 29th. Those who pre-order ‘The Car’ from the band’s official webstore before 3pm on Wednesday 28th September will get access to the fan pre-sale.

A man tried to sell me a coffin today... I said: “That’s the last thing I need.”

My ex left me because, according to her, I’ll never amount to anything. 15 years later, I have one thing to say to her. Lucky guess.

I threw a party for all the workers who helped build my house. The door guy showed up late...

...but he really knew how to make an entrance.

I asked my wife to rate my listening skills and she said, “You’re an 8 on a scale of 10.”

I still don’t get why she wanted me to urinate on a skeleton.

I just saw my wife walk by with her sexiest underwear on, which can only mean one thing. It’s laundry day.

sTUdENTs’ spIkING advICE blITz Up NORTH

Adding an extra shot to someone’s drink without them knowing is spiking, councils and police chiefs are warning students today.

The Local Government Association and the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners are urging young people to learn about the dangers of spiking and take precautions to stay safe, ahead of the new university term. While drink spiking has existed for many years, over the past 12 months there has been an increase in reports of drink spiking and needle spiking – a new trend which sees substances administered by needles rather than through drinks. More than 1,300 reports of needle spiking were made between September 2021 and January 2022 throughout the UK.

As the new academic term approaches, many students will be preparing for freshers week, which is an extremely popular event in the university calendar. Freshers week typically includes themed nights out at local bars and clubs, with many offering a range of drinks for cheaper prices.

While most venues work extremely hard to ensure freshers week stays fun, councils and PCCs are urging students to clue up on the signs of spiking and ways to protect themselves and their friends:

• Don’t accept a drink from a stranger

• Don’t add alcohol to someone’s drink without telling them, this is spiking

• If you think you or someone you’re with has been spiked, tell a bar manager, bouncer or member of staff and report it to the Police

• Try and take a test of both the suspected victim and the drink as soon as possible

• Effects of spiking may vary but symptoms could include loss of balance, feeling sleepy, visual problems, confusion, nausea and vomiting or

unconsciousness. The LGA has also launched new guidance for licensing authorities in a bid to tackle the issue. Licensing authorities work with venues to help them make improvements following spiking incidents. However, if there are clear and persistent failings at a venue, a licensing authority can take direct action to address spiking through their licensing committee, which has the power to decide to suspend or revoke a premise’s licence. Where premises have had their licence revoked due to safety concerns and they appeal the decision, they are currently able to continue trading until their case is heard in court. With current capacity challenges within the courts, this process could take months. As a result, the LGA and APCC are calling for the Government to commit to tightening up this loophole to ensure swift action is taken following a serious safeguarding incident.

Cllr Nesil Caliskan, Chair of the LGA’s Safer and Stronger Communities Board, said: “Everyone should be able to enjoy a night out without the worry of their drinks being tampered with. We urge all students to make sure they are aware of the risks of spiking and for victims to report any incidents to the police and members of staff at licensed premises. Councils play a vital, preventative role by not only working with a range of partners to improve safeguarding measures within the night-time economy but also through the licensing system to address specific concerns against a venue. It is good that the Government has taken steps to commit funding for anti-spiking initiatives, but changes are still needed to existing safeguarding measures within the licensing regime to ensure they are effective.”

On Sunday 2nd October, between 10am and 4pm, Northern History Festival will be showcasing their first ever exhibition on ‘The Blitz Up North’. This exhibition is completely free to enter. This neverseen-before exhibition explores how the Blitz affected Northern towns and cities such as Bradford, Sheffield, Hull and York. This important exhibition sheds light on the often forgotten horrors of the Blitz. It wasn’t just London that felt the devastation.

As well as having information and objects relating to the Blitz up North we will also have survivor interviews playing throughout the day. Historian Joshua Daniels, whose research led to the creation of this exhibition, interviewed these ‘Blitz up North’ survivors and we have special permission to use them for the exhibition.

Northern History Festival is a new organisation, founded by three young historians - Rosie Maggs, Joshua Daniels and Chris Riley- with the aim to make Northern history more exciting and accessible. History often focuses on the South of England, but Northern History Festival wants to change this, by proving the North is not boring or lacking history!

Rosie Maggs said “By hosting our first event, we are starting our journey to help the North of England be recognised for its amazing history. We can’t wait for everyone to see our Blitz Up North Exhibition, and are looking forward to future exhibits and events!”

The event is being held at; Showroom & Workstation, 15 Paternoster Row, Sheffield, S1 2BX. Time: 10am-4pm

Children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) will benefit from a welcome boost to the city’s SEND Placements in the opening of The Discovery Academy, a specialist academy school which opened its doors to excited students and staff on 20 September.

The school, delivered by award winning Nexus Multi Academy Trust and located on the Norfolk Park Estate, will offer 60 places for children aged 7-16 initially, expanding to 80 places over the next few years. The places are for children who have a diagnosis of autism or who are on the diagnostic pathway. Children may also have related social, emotional and mental health needs, or Specific Learning Difficulties (SPLD). All children who attend the school, must have an Education, Health and Care Plan which names Discovery Academy as their school place.

Cllr Dawn Dale, CoChair of the Education, Children and Families Policy Committee, said: “Discovery Academy will increase sufficiency of school places for children with special educational needs in Sheffield, supporting and guiding them through 3 Key Stages of their education. Schools like this are vital in helping children who have difficulties in their learning reach their full potential. I can’t wait to see students experiencing everything the school has to offer.”

The school is kitted out with state-of-the-art, immersive learning environments, and teachers will work in a personalised way with each student, helping them to engage fully with their learning.

Cllr Mick Rooney, CoChair of the Education, Children and Families Policy Committee, said: “I am so impressed with the range of facilities at the school. There are specially designed rooms for relaxation, play and sensory processing as well as specialist academic rooms to stretch their learning in food technology, science, design and technology or art. These facilities, together with the expertise and encouragement of its teachers and staff, will support and stimulate hundreds of Sheffield students in their education for years to come.”

Luci Windle, Executive Headteacher at Discovery Academy, said: “There has been a lot of hard work over the last few months to get everything ready and the wonderful building is a testament to the partnerships that have come together to create it. The new staff team have come together brilliantly with our fantastic families to get off to the right start on our students’ journeys towards achieving their dreams. We know the hard work has only just started and look forward to being a part of Sheffield’s education family for many years to come.”

Warren Carratt, CEO of Nexus Multi Academy Trust, said: “The school finally opening its doors to pupils. We couldn’t be prouder to have created a 21st century school for our children and young people, and it will our privilege to educate them and enable them to be the best they can be.”

MUsHROOM HUNTING IN THE pEak dIsTRICT

Now is the perfect time to spot marvellous mushrooms across the Peak District National Park.

The area is home to hundreds of species of both woodland and grassland fungi, and these fascinating forms have begun to make an appearance above ground.

From the candle snuff fungus to the glistening inkcap, the next few months is your chance to see a variety of fungi that look as weird and wonderful as their names sound!

National Trust ranger, Chris Millner, says: “areas of undisturbed natural grassland are great places to find waxcap fungi.

The large field in front of Longshaw Lodge is called Longshaw Meadow, and it is one of the best sites in Europe to see waxcaps. Careful grazing and little vehicle use help create the right conditions for these jewels of the fungi world. We leave wood to rot so that fungi and insects can thrive, and we often leave stable tree trunks standing tall as they provide excellent habitats for fungi. We’re delighted that such a range of fungi can be seen in the Peak District, including some rare sights, such as the cauliflower fungus.

“At this time of year our ranger teams and volunteers will be

carrying out fungi survey work - some fungi only produce fruiting bodies (the bit we see above ground) once every ten years or even more, which makes putting a species list together a long process! It also means spotting certain types is a rare treat and we encourage people to come and explore –but please take photos instead of picking or damaging the fungi so they get chance to spore year after year.”

To mark the return of the mushrooms, events will be held at the National Trust’s Longshaw Estate and Ilam Park this autumn, including a legacy workshop in honour of the late mycologist and friend of the Longshaw Estate, Patrick Harding: Family Fungi Workshop Longshaw Estate Saturday 24th September, 10am – 12.15pm Free, advanced booking essential

Join the Fungi Guy, Ali McKernan, for a familyfriendly fungi workshop.

Learn all about the weird and wonderful world of fungi through interactive activities, followed by a wander around the woods at Longshaw to find fungi and discuss the role they play in nature. Here are some of the fantastic fungi you can spot at National Trust places in the Peak District:

The amethyst deceiver is a beautiful purple colour and can be found near beech trees in woodland areas on Longshaw Estate.

The fruiting bodies of candlesnuff fungus have black branches with white tips, and often grow in clusters on decaying hardwood.

Waxcaps in bright red, orange, yellow and green are the ‘flowers of autumn’. A gentle touch will reveal why they are called waxcaps. Yellow stagshorn is a kind of jelly fungus with a special trick - it can dry out and come back to life when it rains again.

to bigger premises in the old Co-Op building on The Moor behind Redgates. The business traded here happily and successfully for several years until the council decided the building was required for other purposes.

In 2006 the company moved again to the old Doors and Floors Galore warehouse on Attercliffe Road and traded for around a year before the

the business to relocate, this time to a much larger location on Coleford Road in Darnall, where they are currently based. These premises are 50

times bigger than the original store and focusses solely on selling furniture. This also saw the business change names to Furniture Clearance Warehouse. Although all these years later, customers still refer to them as SWAG.

The business predominantly sells living room, dining room and bedroom furniture. Selling end of line, over stocks and exdisplay from the big multiple furniture stores. There is something to suit every budget.

The owner, David has decided after working long hours and weekends for the last 23 years to start a new chapter. With no one to take over the reins of the business, it will begin

a closing down sale starting Monday 19th September. This is by no means a business that is going bust, merely an owner who wants to dust of his passport and get to know his family in the daylight hours.

The sale will continue into the new year until all stock has gone. During this time all customers will receive their furniture and all orders will be

The owner is grateful for all the support and custom over the years and is looking forward to the next chapter.

Sale starts Monday 19th September at 10am - all stock reduced.

CAMRA: ‘Mini Budget’ alcohol duty announcements are a victory for pubs, small brewers and cider producers

Commenting on the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s mini Budget today, CAMRA Chairman Nik Antona said:

“The Chancellor’s announcement that the new rate of duty for draught beer and cider will go ahead from August 2023 is fantastic news for the great British local as the tax system will recognise that beer, cider and perry served in a pub or social club should be taxed at a lower rate to alcohol bought in the likes of supermarkets.

“Crucially, this new lower rate of tax for draught beer and cider will now apply to containers of 20 litres and over and bag in box products – and not the larger 40 litre containers originally planned for – meaning smaller breweries, cider producers and pubs can all benefit.”

“This groundbreaking policy should help pull consumption into pubs, clubs and taprooms helping to encourage pub-going and keeping our beloved locals viable, alive and thriving.

“We are also delighted to learn that the Treasury will consult on changes to the definition of cider for tax purposes. We will be making the case for all cider to contain at least 50% fresh fruit juice, to ensure that consumers are getting a high-quality product, and to create renewed demand for acres of orchards that are currently being wound down at detriment to our natural environment.

Speaking about the crisis of rising costs for the beer and pubs sector, Nik Antona added:

“The UK’s world-renowned pubs and breweries pulled out all the stops to survive the pandemic but thousands face not being able to make ends meet as bills and costs have soared.

“The Government’s energy price cap for businesses is very welcome but we believe the business

energy support scheme should be extended for a 2-year period as quickly as possible to provide certainty for pubs and breweries.

“Ahead of the Chancellor’s first full Budget later in the year, CAMRA is continuing to call for changes to the business rates system to stop the unfair burden on pubs and for the Chancellor to cut VAT on food and drink for hospitality businesses as costs for pubs continue to skyrocket as customers tighten their belts.”

Clear the dancefloor and whip out your 10 paddles, because the Strictly Come Dancing Live Arena Tour is back on 31 January 2023 at Utilita Arena Sheffield for two shows on!

For the first time ever, Anton Du Beke will join fellow TV judges Shirley Ballas and Craig Revel Horwood on the Strictly Live Tour. The tour will also see the welcome return of the sensational Janette Manrara,

who will host the 31 supersized sparkle-filled shows foxtrotting around the country in January and February next year. Tickets are released via presale on 29 September 2022 at 9am and general sale at 9.00am on 30 September from www. utilitaarenasheffield.co.uk

Opening at the Utilita Arena Birmingham on 20 January, the scintillating live show will then waltz across the country to some of the UK’s biggest entertainment venues: Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena, Leeds’ First Direct Arena, the AO Arena Manchester, Sheffield’s Utilita Arena, Newcastle’s Utilita Arena, London’s O2 Arena, SSE Arena Belfast, culminating at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow on 12 February.

The 2023 tour will be directed once again by the A-MAZ-ING Strictly TV Judge Craig Revel Horwood. The show will feature many of the celebrities and professional dancers from the current series of the multi-award-winning BBC One show, together with the Strictly Live Band, a great way to celebrate the 20th series of this entertainment phenomenon.

Further casting announcements will be made soon.

Speaking about the upcoming tour, Anton Du Beke said: “I’m so excited to join my fellow TV judges on the Strictly 2023 tour and have the chance to enjoy all the fun of the live experience with audiences around the UK.”

Strictly’s Head Judge Shirley Ballas said: “I’m delighted

to be returning to the judging panel, and it will be lovely to have Anton with us. It’s always so much fun!

The audiences at the arena shows are phenomenal and it’s so nice to get to see everyone and perform for you all – I can’t wait for January when we get the show on the road!”

Craig Revel Horwood said: “I’m thrilled to be back directing and judging the 2023 tour. This tour is going to be bigger and better than ever before – my imagination is running wild! With Anton joining the judging panel, one word, three syllables: FAB-ULOUS!”

Janette Manrara said: “I’m so excited to be returning to host the 2023 Strictly Live Tour! It is the most incredible experience to be part of this epic production, bringing all we love about the TV series to hundreds of thousands of people around the UK.” BBC One’s hugely popular Strictly Come Dancing returned to TV screens last weekend with an exciting new celebrity line-up and a host of breathtaking dance routines. Arena audiences can not only watch the spectacular stars in action as they perform roof-raising routines, but they are also granted the power to decide who wins the coveted Glitterball Trophy at the end of each show. The tour judges will provide their invaluable wisdom, advice and scores at each performance, but the audience vote via text for their favourite couple, and it is ultimately their votes that will decide who wins!

As in 2022, each performance of the tour will host a British Sign Language interpreter, who will be displayed on two very large screens either side of the stage so that attendees can book tickets and sit almost anywhere in the arena to enjoy the experience with family and friends.

Three goals, three points and a performance

Darren Moore described his side as playing ‘the perfect game’.

The Owls overcame Wycombe 3-1 to move into third place and Moore was purring in his post-match media conference.

He said: “I thought we played the perfect game today against a strong, experienced team.

“We scored early, had the setback, but we just got straight back into it, got the second goal and the icing on the cake was Pato coming off the bench at the end to get his goal.

“I’ve just said to them in there, ‘we played the perfect game’.

“On the ball and without the ball, we got it spoton. We were calm in possession, we created chances and my only real critique today was perhaps we overplayed the ball when we got into

dangerous areas. “But listen, we have beaten a very good, experienced team and credit to the players. We now have no midweek game so that means a week of hard work on the training ground and that’s what I like.”

After the 10-game landmark, the Owls are averaging two points a

match, which is widely acknowledged as the bedrock for promotion.

Moore said: “I look back on the first 10 games and I will never be content because I know there’s more to come, we can get better and better.

“I’ve seen a lot of good things and things we can improve and the only way you will do that is by

putting in the work on the training pitches.

Moore issued an update on George Byers, who sat out the Wycombe win: “George bruised the top of his foot and it prevented him putting his foot through the ball. It wasn’t worth the risk today but hopefully he should be fine for next week.”

Dear Millers,

My amazing journey at this football club is over - for now.

I avoid calling it ‘the end’ because football is a funny old game and you never know where it will take you. Rotherham United will always hold a special place in my heart and my love and affinity for a club that has given me so much will not die here.

As I am sure you will be able to appreciate, this has been the most difficult decision of my professional career – and that includes my time as the best throw-in-chasing centre forward ever to grace the planet.

Sorry, I’m already leaning on my humour to try and disguise how hard writing this actually is.

I just wanted to put something together to express my sincere thanks to everyone associated with Rotherham United for all of your support over the last six or so years.

hugely grateful. I would like to think that he feels myself and my staff repaid him with our work ethic every single day and in the good times that we have been able to give the club along the way.

I hope that he now feels that what may have seemed like a bold decision to appoint me, now feels vindicated.

My conversation with Tony surrounding my departure was tough, but he offered me the utmost dignity and respect and took the time to listen to and understand my reasoning and I appreciate that massively.

To the fans, the amazing Millers fans, I don’t really know where to start. I feel like at least 98% of you have had a video message from me to celebrate your dog’s birthday or something!

It has been confirmed that two of United’s upcoming Sky Bet Championship fixtures have been chosen for live broadcast by Sky Sports.

Both fixtures will remain on the original dates but with new kick off times.

United’s away fixture against Nigel Pearson’s Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Tuesday 1st November will now kick off at 8pm, whilst the home match against Vincent Kompany’s

Burnley at Bramall Lane on Saturday 5th November now has a 12.30pm start.

The announcements follow recent confirmation the away fixture at West Brom (Saturday 29th October, 12.30pm) had been selected for live broadcast.

Meanwhile, a reminder that the postponed home game against Rotherham United has a new date of Tuesday 8th November (7.45pm).

My first thanks are to the Chairman, Tony Stewart, who saw something within me that I absolutely could not and took the incredibly brave decision to offer me the job, in a time when supporters were looking for answers. They were answers that I wasn’t sure that I could provide, but Tony not only stood by me, but reaffirmed that I had the qualities to be a success. I am no stranger to how football works, and I know that there have been times that we have hit a sticky wicket, but the Chairman has always been behind what we have tried to achieve and for that, I am

Seriously, I feel like I know so many of you personally and my phone has already been blowing up with many of you wishing me well – which means the world to me. It has always been the case – in my experience anyway – that you appreciate hard work at this football club and that is an area that I was never going to sell you short. As many of you know, I have lived and breathed this football club for as long as I can remember and when taking the job in the first place, my main fear was letting you down. It would have broken my heart.

Whilst there have been ups and downs along the way, laughter and tears – and of course some bloke shouting at me to leave one up from corners! – you have never stopped supporting my staff and the team.

My aim here was to build a team that appreciated what representing that famous windmill crest meant and for every player that ever pulled on a shirt for us, to do

so with pride. I think 99.9% have done that. As a result, I’ve made so many friends for life with the players and staff that have walked through the doors at Roundwood and they are in so many ways like sons to me as a result of the togetherness that we have been able to create. To see the likes of Semi Ajayi, Kyle Vassell, Will Vaulks and Chiedozie Ogbene to name a few earn their first international call-ups whilst Millers players makes me burst with pride. To see the young, quiet, fluffy-haired Ben Wiles go from Academy prospect to a senior player who has made over 150 appearances for the club equally fills my heart with joy. With the Chairman’s support, we have been able to bring in players that we have identified potential in and develop them, in many cases, selling them on for a profit to help ensure the continued progression of the club. For me, our ability to have done that as a staff, ranks among our greatest accomplishments.

Of course, I want to thank those same players – and that includes every single one who has worn the badge whilst I’ve been in charge.

That very first team that I took into battle at Burton tried their best bless them, but couldn’t get the win I so desperately needed for validation. Every group since then - from the Joe Mattocks to the Conor Washingtons of this world - have been an absolute credit to this club and themselves.

My final message of thanks is to the staff of Rotherham United, from Julie who takes care of our laundry to everyone in the office at the stadium and indeed, my own first team staff. I have been privileged to work

alongside some very talented people – and some of the most-committed in football, let me tell you. They are the beating heart of Rotherham United. From my medical and performance team who do a superb job managing our high demands for the players’ fitness to my kit man who ensures that the likes of Dan Barlaser don’t turn up on a matchday without their boots. They have all been absolutely superb and a pleasure to come in and work with every single day. We have always said that our aim was to leave the football club in a better place than we found it when we took the job six years ago, and I hope you agree that we have done that. We leave behind an incredibly talented group of footballers, who are full of confidence and I know will go on to achieve amazing things. In Rob Scott and his recruitment staff, you have a team of committed individuals who will continue to preserve the best interests of this club in that department and ensure continuity for whoever comes in next.

There has been laughter and plenty of tears – what can I say, you know I’m an emotional guy? – and whilst I think I have pulled out the last remaining strands of hair that I had, I have loved the experience of being able to call myself the manager here. I leave with memories and friends that I will treasure forever.

From the very bottom of a teary-eyed adopted Yorkshireman’s heart, and on behalf of the staff that will be departing with me, I would like to say thank you.

Once a Miller, Always a Miller.

Gary McSheffrey was pleased to see his side show a response after they beat Crawley Town in Sky Bet League Two. George Miller scored twice, while Joseph Olowu and Kyle Hurst also found the net in a comfortable 4-1 victory at the Eco-Power Stadium.

On the performance: “It was a great victory and an important one to get at home, it was crucial that we built on what we did in the cup on Tuesday.

“We went ahead deservedly and then let them back into it, so the message at halftime was to keep working and be patient.

“We take the good fortune with the penalty and then

it was a great finish from George for the third, then for Kyle to cap it off as he did was tremendous.

“It’s been a tough couple of weeks where we’ve faced a lot of adversity, so it was good to see a response from the lads.”

On Hurst’s fine individual goal: “Kyle is a bit of throwback as a winger and we thought he was tiring before he went and scored a goal like that which shows his capabilities.

“We’re pleased with his progress and he’s scored four goals now which is a good return, he’s scoring and creating chances at the moment.”
