Sheffield’s ambition to host Eurovision 2023 Following the BBC’s announcement that Eurovision 2023 will be held in the UK, Sheffield will be entering a bid to become the host city. Sheffield has stood in solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, including those the city have long been linked with in their twinned city Donetsk. Sheffield has a proven reputation for hosting major international events – recently including UEFA Women’s EURO 2022, as well as hosting the World Snooker Championship for over 45 years. Later this year, Sheffield will host the Rugby League World Cup, as well as the prestigious figure skating

grand prix, the MK John Wilson Trophy. Sheffield’s main arena, the Utilita Sheffield Arena, is a 13,600 capacity venue, that delivers more than 100 events every year. Sheffield also has a thriving and diverse hospitality industry, with world-class hotels across our green city. Councillor Martin Smith, Chair of the Economic Development and Skills Committee at Sheffield City Council, said: “Sheffield is made for hosting Eurovision – music runs through our blood and we put on a good show. We’ve been hosting the World Snooker Championship for over 45 years, we’ve

welcomed thousands of fans to UEFA Women’s EURO 2022, and just this weekend Sam Ryder wowed absolutely everyone at Tramlines Festival. “We have the infrastructure, the venues, the hospitality, and the transport links. We also have one of the strongest creative and cultural sectors in the country. “We have a long and important relationship with Ukraine, particularly with our twinned city of Donetsk. This began in 1956, and intensified during the 1980s – aided by the similarities of our cities, both having a steel and mining heritage. “As the UK’s first designated City of Sanctuary, we’re

reaching out to offer our city not only as a place of sanctuary, but as a place to celebrate the unity and togetherness that Eurovision symbolises.

“Sheffield stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine – we are putting ourselves forward to host Eurovision 2023 to do its people proud.”

SHEFFIELD DERBY AT THE ARENA Dalton Smith will face Sam O’maison for the vacant British Super-Lightweight Title at the Utilita Arena Sheffield on Saturday August 6, live worldwide on DAZN (excluding Australia and New Zealand). Tickets for the 11 bout show are still available from www.utilitaarenasheffield.co.uk priced from £46.95. Smith (11-0, 9 KOs), one of the hottest prospects in world boxing, claimed his first pro title at Manchester Arena in May 2021 – dominating Lee Appleyard and forcing a punishing sixth-round stoppage to earn the vacant English Title. Sheffield’s most successful amateur boxer of all time added the vacant WBA Intercontinental Title to his collection by widely outpointing Spain’s Brian Pelaez at the Worthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt, Austria four months later. The 25-year-old halted Ray Moylette in the tenth and final round of a onesided contest for the WBC International Silver Title at the First Direct Arena in Leeds in March before defending that belt with a sixth-round stoppage win over tough Argentinian Mauro Perouene earlier this month

in Cardiff. O’maison (17-3-1, 7 KOs), a former English Super-Lightweight Champion, shared two close contests with Luton’s Kay Prospere in 2019, drawing the first and losing the second, before returning to winning ways with a points win over Serge Ambomo in May. “World Championship boxing at Hillsborough’s the goal, so headlining the arena for the British Title is a great milestone along the way,” said Smith. “It’s a venue that has seen some huge fights - Naz, Nelson, Hatton and Brook to name a few. Now I feel it’s my turn. “Sam is heavy-handed and an awkward southpaw, but I think my best beats his best so that’s what I need to deliver. It’s going to be a right atmosphere!” “When I found out about this fight I was over the moon, becoming British Champion has bewen a childhood dream of mine!” said O’maison. “I know Dalton fairly well and sparred him a few times so I know this fight won’t be easy by any means, these calibre of fights never are but I 100% believe in myself. The icing on the cake for me is that it’s a Sheffield

derby at the Utilita Arena Sheffield! No doubt the atmosphere will be electric knowing Sheffield supporters! Roll on August 6.” “It’s Sheffield vs. Sheffield for the prestigious British Super-Lightweight Title on August 6 and a chance for one of the most exciting talents in world boxing Dalton Smith to headline his first ever show in his home city,” said Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport Chairman. “Dalton has been flawless so far in the professional ranks and I truly believe that he is a World Champion-in-waiting. He has a tough assignment against Sam O’maison and the arena is sure to be bouncing for an all-Sheffield main event. We have a host of young talent looking to make an impression on the undercard - catch it all live on DAZN.” Matchroom Boxing Presents a Night of Championship Boxing Utilita Arena Sheffield Saturday 6th August Tickets for the 11 bout show at still available from www.utilitaarenasheffield.co.uk priced from £46.95.

Community Right to Buy could be gamechanger for saving local pubs Responding to a speech by the Shadow Levelling Up Secretary Lisa Nandy’s, in which she announced that a future Labour Government would introduce a ‘community right to buy’ for local community assets in England, Chairman of CAMRA Nik Antona said: “Giving communities in England a

right in law to have first refusal on buying privately-owned community assets would be a gamechanger for people who want to save and take over the running of their local. “Pubs are more than just businesses – they play a crucial role in building and maintaining cohesive communities. Where they are under threat of closure, conversion or demolition

it is right that people are given first refusal on buying it so they have a fighting chance to save their local as a community-owned pub. “Until the law is changed to provide for a community right to buy assets of value, a dedicated pub-saving fund and support scheme is needed from the Government to make sure local people are fully supported to save their pub if is under threat.”

USEFUL NUMBERS

News, Information and Advice

top tips for food storage preparing for road trips family business With the rising cost of living, we’re all trying to find ways to make our weekly shop go further. As well as shopping smarter, did you know that you can actually prolong the life of some of your food shop staples, just with a few simple storage hacks. We caught up with food industry expert Hannah Anderson, CEO of ethical online food brand 44 Foods to get some of her storage hacks that won’t just help your food last longer but will reduce food waste too. 1. Resist the rinse When you’re buying loose fruits or vegetables from the supermarket or your local food producer, it can be tempting to head straight to the sink when you get home to give them a good wash before they go in the fridge. But washing ingredients straight away can leave excess moisture which, once you’ve stored them, can lead to quicker mould growth. So if you want to make the most of your fresh produce, resist the rinse! 2. Suss out your fridge shelves Where you store your food in the fridge can impact how long things last. It goes back to your science classes at school - heat rises and it’s the same principle within your fridge. The bottom of your fridge is cooler than the top which is why most fridges have a crisper drawer at the very bottom because that’s where it’s the least humid. Fresh meat should always be stored on the lower shelves as again, it’s colder and this will help your meat to last longer. The higher shelves are best for prepared foods - so things like leftovers are best up here as they’re things you want to use quickly. Remember though, not everything needs to go in the fridge and things like potatoes and onions do best in a cool, dark, well ventilated area. 3. Say cheese Have you ever wondered why cheese bought at

the supermarket will usually come in plastic wrap whereas if you pick some up from a local farm shop, it’s usually wrapped in some kind of parchment paper? As some of our expert 44 Foods cheese producers will tell you, that’s because paper wrappings allow cheese to breathe which plastic doesn’t. Cheese needs to take in oxygen, which not only helps the flavour but helps it to last longer and by wrapping it in plastic or cling film, you create the perfect environment for bacteria to grow. So when it comes to cheese, parchment is best. 4. The sniff test Some major supermarkets like Morrisons and the Co-Op have already scrapped the use of use-by dates on things like milk and yoghurts in a bid to reduce food waste. With a mission to reduce food waste, we’re all for it and we’d always recommend the good old fashioned sniff test! Milk has a distinctive sour smell when it’s gone off so that’s the number one sign but if your milk starts to take on a yellow colour or starts to go lumpy, it’s time to get rid. If it still smells fresh, you’re good to go! 5. The great egg debate There’s long been a debate on the best way to store eggs to keep them fresher for longer - to fridge or not to fridge? According to British Lion eggs, to keep your eggs fresh, the fridge really is the best place for them. We also recommend keeping your eggs in the carton they come in. Although lots of fridges come with their own egg storage trays, the cardboard carton is the original and the best for a very good reason - eggshells have tiny pores which can take in bacteria or even smells from other foods around them. The carton protects them from all of that making them last longer. Plus, you can recycle the cardboard carton too!

With the school holidays starting today, thousands of UK families are preparing to take a trip in their cars. Widespread flight cancellations and airport delays that are predicted to stretch across the summer season have made the idea of a ‘staycation’ road trip more appealing than ever. But it is essential for all holiday makers planning to get away in their cars this summer to ensure their vehicle is up to the task; a poorly maintained car or failure to prepare for potential problems could turn a welldeserved break into a nightmare trip. ESSENTIAL CAR CHECKS BEFORE TAKING A CAR ON HOLIDAY 1. Tyre pressure: Under inflated or over inflated tyres can be dangerous and affect a car’s handling, as well as affect the fuel economy of a car. 2. Brake fluid: Brake fluid is vital in the proper functioning of your car’s brakes. 3. Engine coolant: Engine coolant protects your car’s engine from overheating, which is especially important during hot summer weather. 4. Engine oil: If your car’s engine oil gets too low it can cause expensive and often irreversible damage. 5. Windscreen and wipers: Look for cracks or chips in your car’s windscreen, they could get worse if not attended to. Check your wiper blades are in good condition, and make sure your washer fluid is fully topped up. 6. Headlights and indicators: It’s not just illegal to have faulty headlights and indicators, it is highly dangerous. 7. Dashboard lights:

Never be tempted to ignore warning lights that show on your dashboard, you could be damaging the car and the car could be dangerous to drive. 8. Air conditioning system: Air con systems need re-gassing periodically, which should take a qualified specialist no more than an hour to do. STAYING SAFE ON A SUMMER HOLIDAY ROAD TRIP 1. Pack carefully: Do not overload your car with luggage. Excessive weight can unbalance the car as well as affect the car’s fuel economy. Ensure stacked luggage does not block your visibility from the rear windows. 2. Avoid the queues: Setting off early in the morning or late in the evening could avoid getting stuck in traffics jams. Try to travel when the roads are quiet so your journey is as easy as possible. 3. Stock up on supplies: It’s important to have plenty of drinks and some snacks for everyone in the car. 4. Chargers and devices: Don’t forget any tablet devices you need to keep kids entertained on a long trip. Crucially, ensure you have your phone charger in the car, running out of phone battery could prove disastrous in the event of an emergency. 5. Factor in rest breaks: It’s recommended you take a break from driving at least every two hours. It’s a good way to reenergise, use the toilet and stock up on any supplies. 6. Share the driving: If more than one of you has a license and is insured on the car, it’s recommended you share the driving. This will stave off driver fatigue, which is very dangerous.

offers complete funeral service Eric Eyre Funeral Service understands how difficult the process of planning a funeral for a loved one can be and offer a bespoke funeral service, whilst continuing to uphold traditional values. Established since 1864, Eric took over the business in 1955 and has been looking after families in the local community and surrounding areas of Sheffield, Barnsley and Rotherham ever since, with branches at High Green and Sheffield Lane Top. Available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and with decades of experience in guiding bereaved clients through this difficult time, Eric Eyre provide a professional yet personal service, caring for you and your loved ones while facilitating the necessary funeral arrangements and ensuring your wishes are carried out with care and compassion. Eric Eyre go the extra mile to provide an exceptional service and will take responsibility for ensuring everything is perfectly organised to deliver a fitting tribute to your loved one’s life story. “Just as other aspects of life have evolved, so has society’s approach to funerals, with modern funerals a very different affair to the traditional, formal black-tie events of years gone by,” says Wayne Pickering, manager at Eric Eyre Funeral Service. “For many, a funeral has moved from being a sombre affair to a celebration of life – complete with all that you’d expect from any other celebration, including music, entertainment and laughter. That is why we are always on hand to offer guidance on the many ways we can add a personal touch, just let us know what you would like and we will do our utmost to meet your requirements.” “ With over 20 years’ experience of the industry, and many years’ previous experience with John Fairest, Wayne was offered the opportunity to join Eric as

manager in 2017, “I joined John Fairest as a hearse driver in 1997 and was later promoted to funeral director. It was there that I learnt how to arrange and conduct funerals, as well as the correct way to handle and line coffins and how to prepare the deceased for the family to pay their respects. This gave me a full scope of all aspects of the job and after ten years of service I was offered the position of manager at a new branch on Abbey Lane, which I accepted. In September 2017 I was offered the opportunity to join the team at Eric Eyre’s and to ‘move back home’, as I say, as I live local to both branches. It was, and still is, a fantastic opportunity for me to grow and develop an already friendly family run business and provide our local community with a warm and compassionate service.” Completing the team at High Green is Sharon Clayton and Kay Cooper, while Beverley Travis and Ruth Fenlon look after the branch at Sheffield Lane Top, which opened four years ago. “Our aim is to be there for our clients in every way that we can and make sure that their loved one is sent on their final journey exactly as they would have wanted. Your first point of contact will be the person you deal with throughout the process and whether the death has occurred at home, in a hospital or elsewhere, we will guide from the initial arrangement all the way through to directing the funeral. We even provide help following the service, should you need any further support or guidance.” If you need help arranging a funeral for your loved one, contact Eric Eyre Funeral Service.

Early Bird Tickets Go On Sale For Tramlines Festival 2023 The curtain closed Sunday night on another epic edition of Tramlines, Sheffield’s biggest celebration of music, art plus comedy and the beginning of the week, early bird tickets went on sale for the 2023 festival. They are available from www.tramlines. org.uk priced from £79.50 plus booking fee. 35,000 revellers a day attended this year’s sold-out event which saw North Shield’s boy wonder, Sam Fender make his first ever headline appearance to crowds in their masses at Sarah Nulty’s Main Stage on Friday night. Fender travelled to the Hillsborough Park site with a piece of BBC Radio 1’s giant jigsaw, later nabbed by Bradford all round mischief makers, Bad Boy Chiller Crew at Sheffield Wednesday’s ground where the artists dressing rooms are located (picture here). The 13th edition of Tramlines also staged hometown performances from the recently reunited Little Man Tate. Lead singer Jon Windle closed the set by giving his guitar to a beaming fan in the front row. Sheffield’s Reverend and The Makers fronted by the larger-than-life Jon McClure debuted two new tracks ‘Heatwave’ and ‘Problems’ from the band’s highly anticipated seventh studio album as McClure’s family and children joined them on stage. Self Esteem aka Rebecca Taylor was an absolute highlight with both herself and her band kitted out in Sheffield Wednesday shirts on T’Other Stage. Other standout

performances across the arena included Scouting For Girls whose 30-minute set drew the largest crowd ever to T’Other Stage, second only to Eurovision hero Sam Ryder whose army of fans spilled out from the tent. Delightfully, four human-sized wombats appeared on stage for The Wombats’ set. New Kasabian frontman Serge hugged a surprised security person on stage while James leadman Tim Booth jumped into the crowd to perform four songs, up close and personal. The world’s first Elvis fronted Nirvana, Elvana were also a highlight of the weekend with Elvis himself launching himself into crowds for more rock ‘n’ roll crowd surfing. And to top it all off, a stunning sunset broke as Madness closed proceedings on Sunday evening. The entire festival weekend was packed with quality performances from the likes of Pixey, Baby Queen, Do Nothing and Yard Act. It also saw official festival bookings for two special artists, both who’d come through Tramlines’ Appy To Play scheme in 2021; neo-soul singer August Charles and the soulful R’n’B artist, Rumbi Tauro. The Library Stage was the place to discover the best in breaking and unsigned talent. On Friday the stage saw a takeover from DINA, Sheffield’s innovative arts organisation which presented sets from the all-female punk band Black Joanie and female/non-binary 8-piece afro-jazz/fusion outfit, The Goddess Collective. Sheffield’s Pattern + Push talent competition for rappers

and singers certainly fulfilled its brief on Saturday, showcasing to audiences 2022 winner Sarinity Jones alongside Sheffield MC and producer, Coco. Timm Cleasby, Tramlines Festival Ops Director said, “What a fantastic weekend. I spoke to so many people who were having a great time, loads of smiling faces. Musically, the Pattern + Push curated day on the library stage was magnificent, Self Esteem was just awesome and seeing kids singing and dancing to songs I grew up with as Madness closed the show was glorious. Jason Manford’s genius of getting audiences singing along to old primary school hymns to the calm oasis Into The Trees watching families playing together topped off a brilliant weekend. It was the biggest audience we’ve ever had on Hillsborough Park, so I’d like to send a huge thanks to the whole team, to every single person who worked across the site, to the volunteers, and to everyone who bought a ticket. We can’t wait to welcome you back next year.” With so much joyous feedback from punters this year, people are advised to be quick to snap up a best value early bird ticket which historically sell out, fast. Tramlines 2023 will take place from 21st – 23rd July at Hillsborough Park, Sheffield. Early Bird tickets for the 2023 festival and are available from www. tramlines.org.uk

New system of alcohol taxation needed as quickly as possible to give pubs and breweries a boost: CAMRA Responding to the announcement last week from the Treasury that decisions on when and how to introduce changes to the way alcohol is taxed – including a lower rate of duty for draught beer and cider designed to help pubs and social clubs compete with the likes of supermarkets – will not be made until the Autumn, CAMRA Chief Executive Tom Stainer said: “With the beer and pubs sector continuing to be hit hard by rising prices, spiraling energy costs and the knock-on effects of a dip in consumer confidence and spending it is clear that our locals – and the great breweries and cider producers that serve them – need more help from the Government if they are to survive and thrive in the coming months and years. “That’s why introducing the new system of alcohol taxation designed to give pubs, social clubs and taprooms support through a new preferential rate of duty charged on beer and cider served on draught compared to the likes

of supermarket alcohol is so important. “We were also expecting important details to be announced on the replacement for the Small Brewers Relief scheme, meaning more uncertainty for small brewers feeling the burden of the cost of business crisis much more acutely than their globally-owned counterparts. “CAMRA welcomed the Government’s commitment to this new way of taxing beer and cider but we are now calling on the Treasury to bring forward firm plans on how this will work in practice and announce when it will be introduced as quickly as possible to give our pubs the helping hand they desperately need. “In the meantime, through our Summer of Pub campaign, we are continuing to urge people to support their locals as much as possible, as well as calling on the Government for extra support for pubs and breweries through a VAT cut for food and drink served in pubs, extending business rates relief and offering businesses help with rising energy costs.”

Follow Your Local Team Every Week In The Mercury BLADES CONCLUDE PRE-SEASON There is work to do WITH DERBY DEFEAT AT BARNSLEY The Blades concluded the pre-season matches campaign with a loss, making it three wins and three defeats from the six games played. Boss Heckingbottom, on his return to Barnsley, named a complete different XI from the team that beat Burton Albion on Friday night. The opening action was uneventful, with little to report from the opening 15 minutes. The game’s first chance was a result of a foul on the edge of the box by Ahmedhodzic. A curling free-kick by Benson was on target but Foderingham clawed away. Two efforts in the space of a minute around the half hour mark then put the visiting team in the ascendency. Ndiaye almost

got a decent connection on Osborn’s low cross and then, after Lowe robbed Williams, Fleck and Osborn linked up before Brewster’s effort deflected kindly into the hands of goalkeeper Collins. The first half appeared to be fizzling out until the Blades benefitted from a mistake with a matter of seconds remaining before the break. Following a patient build-up, Ahmedhodzic clipped the ball over the Barnsley defence and whilst attempting to hold off Brewster, CUNDY nudged the ball past Collins. United’s goal gave them the impetus at the start of the second period with Lowe, Fleck and Osborn involved heavily down the left. The latter provided the

BRUNT LOANED

Zak Brunt has become the latest Blades youngster to head out of Bramall Lane to further his development in non-league. The midfielder has completed a season long loan switch to Boreham Wood, who ply their trade in the National League, with the 20-year-old having already experienced the fifth tier during stints Southend United and Notts

County last term. Brunt becomes the seventh youngster to be loaned out ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, following the moves of Marcus Dewhurst (Scunthorpe United), Femi Seriki (Rochdale), Jake Eastwood (Ross County), Harry Boyes (Forest Green Rovers), Harrison Neal (Barrow) and Jean Belehouan (Boston United).

low cross on 53 minutes which saw Berge clip the outside of a post with an effort. However, Barnsley’s equaliser on 57 minutes was a bizarre moment. Foderingham attempted a quick clearance, which struck Berge and the ball dropped nicely for AITCHISON to coolly find the empty net. The goal woke the home supporters and on the pitch the game was being played at a good tempo. United struck the woodwork again in 64 minutes, also Berge, this time after Collins had spilled Brewster’s shot, whilst the left was where the Blades continued to look dangerous. As the game entered the final 15 minutes

Owls sign Tyreeq Bakinson Wednesday have completed the permanent signing of Tyreeq Bakinson from Bristol City for an undisclosed fee. The midfielder becomes the Owls’ eighth addition of the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old began his career with Luton Town,

Ahmedhodzic and Brewster both scuffed shots but the home side went ahead on 81 minutes. From a 20-yard free-kick, BENSON’s powerful effort beat the dive of Foderingham. Heckingbottom didn’t make a substitute, opting to give his starting XI a full 90 minutes, ahead of a full week of training prior to the Sky Bet Championship opener at Watford. Blades: Foderingham, Baldock, Ahmedhodzic, Egan, Clark, Lowe, Berge, Osborn, Fleck, Ndiaye, Brewster. Unused: Amissah, Gomis, Broadbent, Peck, Starbuck, Brooks, Lankshear, Gaxia, Sachdev. making his professional debut for the Hatters in May 2016, before joining the Robins the following year. Bakinson has also enjoyed loan spells with Newport County and Plymouth Argyle before spending last season with Ipswich Town in League One. With over 100 career league appearances under his belt, the Londoner bolsters Darren Moore’s options in the engine room ahead of the 2022/23 campaign ahead.

Darren Moore says the manner of the goals conceded at Wigan on Saturday took the gloss from what were large parts of an encouraging performance at the DW Stadium. Wednesday went down 4-1 over the Pennines but the result belied the pattern of a game the visitors dominated in extended spells. Particularly in the second half, the Owls asked all the questions but were undone by two late goals against the run of play to allow Wigan an emphatic win. Moore said: “Some of

our play was really, really good, we passed the ball very well, but the manner of the goals has let us down today and that was a concern. “The scoreline didn’t reflect the game or our performance but we had lapses, and it’s not the defenders, it’s through the structure of the team. “How we finished the game was completely different to how we started and I didn’t see anything in the game to reflect a 4-1 loss but that’s what it was. “There is work to do and that’s exactly what we will do.”

MILLERS COMPLETE UNBEATEN PRE-SEASON Rotherham United Assistant Manager Richie Barker was left encouraged after a much improved performance from the Millers saw them run out 2-1 winners in their friendly fixture with Crewe Alexandra at Mornflake Stadium. Conor Washington and Georgie Kelly struck in the first half to put the Millers in control, with Daniel Agyei’s close-range finish five minutes before the break proving a mere consolation. The result sees the Millers end their pre-season campaign unbeaten, ahead of the Sky Bet

Championship opener with Swansea City at AESSEAL New York Stadium next Saturday. “I thought we were very good in the first half and looked a little bit like ourselves. We had a few things after Tuesday that we wanted to get better at,” Barker told www.themillers. co.uk. “I don’t think we’ve lost a game in pre-season, all away from home and enabling ourselves to have a mindset of not getting beat. I think that is important. “I think the effort levels were far better than we were the other night.

Looking back, everything today was better. It is still early doors, but we need to hit the ground running.” Chiedozie Ogbene was a notable absentee from the teamsheet, with Barker revealing the striker hadn’t travelled through illness. Ollie Rathbone was also withdrawn in the first half as the Millers exercised caution with the midfielder feeling his thigh, while Grant Hall played 45 minutes following his arrival on loan from Middlesbrough. “Chieo hasn’t trained through illness and obviously we have to be careful with that, so there

was not point bringing him. “Ollie’s thigh got a little tight, we’d planned on him playing 60 minutes and we didn’t want to risk it. “As a striker, everyone wants to into the season in a bit of form. Georgie has scored a few in preseason and for Conor to be rewarded for his hard work will do him the world of good. “It was a good 45 minutes from Grant (Hall), he was a good communicator, knows the game and the division. It was a good debut from him and I know he was glad to get back out there and get playing again.”

Joseph Olowu feels the win over FC United of Manchester will help Rovers continue to get into the swing of things ahead of the new league campaign. A 3-0 win at Broadhurst Park rounded off the pre-season schedule, and Olowu says the good habits put in place in recent weeks will stand them in good stead. He said: “I think it was a good result, we’ve gone through pre-season

unbeaten so hopefully we can take that momentum into the league campaign. “It’s all about getting into the swing of things and maintaining the good habits, we’re scoring goals and keeping clean sheets which is crucial. “We’ve shown we can adapt and mix things up depending on the opposition, as players it’s down to us to take that responsibility to recognise that.” This summer has been

Olowu’s first full preseason since joining Rovers, and he says he’s relished the challenges faced along the way. He added: “I’ve enjoyed every moment of preseason, it’s similar to when I first came in last season in terms of getting my head down and working hard.

“I’ve tried to put by best foot forward, I’m grateful that I’ve had a smooth and a good summer to get my levels to where they need to be. “I feel fitter and that’s improving all the time, I’m not where I want to be but I’m definitely working towards it.”
