Indore Engineering Expo 2024 to showcase MP’s manufacturing prowess

ndore, known as Madhya Pradesh’s commercial capital, will be the host for Indore Engineering & Manufacturing Expo 2024 (Indore Engineering Expo 2024) from January 5­ 8, 2024. The event, central India’s largest industrial exhibition organised

by Future Events, will be held at Labhganga Exhibition Centre and will bring together manufacturers, suppliers, distributors and traders of engineering products &solutions.Plast Pack & Print Expo (PPP Expo) and Pumps, Valves & Systems Expo (PVS Expo) will be hosted along with Indore Engineering Expo 2024.

The Expo aims to deliver real opportunities for businesses who want to showcase their products and services to key audiences, enabling them to develop new business relationships across India. It is the single platform with more opportunity where participants can assure that they will get a great response at the hand.

The expo, which is supported by Association of Industries Madhya Pradesh (AIMP) and Indian Plast Pack Forum, will bring together engineering, electrical and printing packaging industries on one platform. More than 300companies from across the country will be exhibiting a variety of advanced technology machines, automation & robotics, packaging & strapping machines and auto components among others in a four­day­long Indore Engineering Expo.

Indore: The nerve centre of growth One of the busiest cities of Madhya Pradesh, Indore is the economic nerve center of the state.Indore economy, which is expanding in all directions, includes both the traditional agro industries and modern corporate and IT companies. Indore accounts for about one third of the total ‘Namkeen’

(variety of gram flour snacks) production of India.It has also topped the list of India’s cleanest cities for two years in a row.

Indore is the second city (after Mumbai) in India to have both Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institutes of Management (IIM), and dozens of engineering colleges. Pithampur near Indore is one of the largest hubs of vehicle and automobile industries in India. it is a well­known industrial estate referred to as the ‘Detroit of India’. Automobile in Indore is one of the numerous industries that contribute substantially to theeconomy.

The government is encouraging participation of the private sector in the production of vehicles and defence­ related products in industrial areas in and around Indore. Madhya Pradesh: The incredible manufacturing growth story Madhya Pradesh, the 10th largest economy in the country, is making a transition from agriculture-led economy to industry-driven growth. With its focus on technologydriven tools to enhance the productivity across industrial sectors, the state is all set for an incredible growth to achieve a $ 550 billion SGDP. rom an agri­focused economy, Madhya Pradesh is slowly emerging as the centre of manufacturing for many Indian and multinational companies.

Factors like its geographical location, available natural resources, better law and order, skilled human resources, availability of resources and effective implementation of Ease of Doing Business are helping the state to become a credible option for companies who are looking for expansion in the country. The state government is also actively encouraging foreign investment in key sectors, including manufacturing, infrastructure, and renewable energy, to meet sustainable targets.

These regional disparities, according to experts, are the reason for the slow industrialisation in the state. Limited basic infrastructure and connectivity are other reasons for concentration of industries to some areas only.

At the Global Investors Summit (GIS) held in January 2023, Madhya Pradesh experienced a substantial influx of investments with MoUs over $ 201.5 billion being signed for projects across industrial sectors. With the focus to increase business­to­business (B2B) and government­to­business (G2B) engagements, around 32 embassies from around the world registered for participation in the summit.During the GIS summit, the renewable energy sector received $ 60 billion, urban infrastructure received $ 37.5 billion, agriculture and

food processing received $ 1.34 billion, the IT and electronics sector received $ 10.4 billion, chemicals and petroleum $ 10.3 billion, and the services sector received $ 9.6 billion.

Advantage MP Madhya Pradesh, the second­largest state located in central India, is easily accessible to markets across the country. It occupies a strategic location along the Delhi­ Mumbai Industrial Corridor, which facilitates logistics movement. Madhya Pradesh is home to over 100 industrial zones, seven smart cities, 13 proposed greenfield industrial areas, and a well­ developed multimodal transportation system. The state has a robust road network of more than 350,000 km and

enhanced air connectivity with five major airports at Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, Khajuraho, and Jabalpur, which are critical drivers for its economy.

The state’s biggest strengths are the easy availability of land and its infrastructure development capability. The abundance of land provides an opportunity to utilise the state’s manpower and establish an industrial setup.

GDP of Madhya Pradesh, the 10th largest economy in the country, increased by 19.74 per cent in FY2022–23. The state boasts five prominent industrial regions, namely Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, Rewa, and Jabalpur. These regions house major industrial units in sectors such as automotive, pharmaceuticals, textiles, food processing, IT/ITeS, electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM), cement, and mining.

Along strategic corridors, numerous industrial and investment regions have emerged, including Pithampur­Dhar­ Mhow, Ratlam­Nagda, Shajapur­Dewas, and Neemach­Nayagaon, with the state actively fostering their multi­sectoral growth. In the fiscal year 2022­23, Madhya

Pradesh recorded exports worth $7.19 billion, further demonstrating its robust economic performance.

Madhya Pradesh has six inland container depots and an international air cargo facility located in Indore and Bhopal.

On an industrial growth path MP has been an agriculture­oriented economy (with agriculture accounting for nearly half of MP's output). Industry contributed 19 percent to the state’s GDP in 2021­22. Between 2011­12 and 2021­ 22, manufacturing registered a growth of only 6.22 percent and, hence, there is a need for industrialisation to take it to a higher level of development with micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) playing a special role in the development of the rural economy. To make the process of setting up industries hassle­free, the state industries department has tried to ease the policy framework — from licensing to land acquisition — in the interest of business.

Industrial scenario in MP has undergone a sea change in the last two decades following industry­friendly policy initiatives making business ventures hassle free. The industrial growth rate is 24 percent, which was 0.61 percent in 2001­ 02. The state's location in central India offers a huge potential (as one can easily reach many states from MP) to make a further push for the manufacturing sector.

Industries in MP are concentrated in a few clusters while the vast majority of the state remains untouched by its gains. The industrial areas in and around Bhopal and Indore drive 80 percent of industrial development in the state. Gwalior, Jabalpur and Rewa are among the other industrial pockets.

Promising growth Madhya Pradesh occupies the fifth position in India having attracted 7.2 percent of total industrial investments in 2022­23. To develop such robust infrastructure that supports the ecosystem, the state has invested more than $ 15.4 billion in the last five years, with the goal of making the state an industrial hub. The government has also simplified the licensing framework for new industries and introduced a single­window system.

The Madhya Pradesh government has been taking multiply measures to encourage investment in the industrial sectors. The government's business­ supportive policies include tax­linked investment assistance, which ranges from 10 percent to 40 percent of investment in plant and machinery, ranging from Rs 10 crore to Rs 150 crore, respectively.

The Madhya Pradesh government aims to make the state an agriculture and food processing hub. In addition to this, the government also wants to build an inclusive startup ecosystem in the state.

All these measures taken by the government have resulted in promising outcomes. For example, the total exports from the state went from nearly Rs 6,000 crore in 2003­04 to Rs 65,000 crore in 2022­23 (witnessing a jump of 983%), according to data from the MP industries department.

Under MP Startup Policy and Implementation Scheme, the state supports the growth of start­up ecosystem with benefits like exemption on electricity duty for 3 years, 15 per cent assistance upto Rs 15 lakh on the first investment received and patent assistance of Rs 5 lakh.

According to the MP Economic Survey, 2022­23 the size of the secondary sector (manufacturing, construction, creation of utilities etc) was expected to increase by 5.42 percent between 2021­22 and 2022­ 23. The state has ample land for industries which is the biggest advantage for MP because many states are facing land unavailability issues. As per the state government records, MP has a land bank of more than 1.2 lakh acres for industrial development. The government is also focusing on developing an industrial ecosystem in areas like Pithampur (which is near Indore) attracting investors to set up their plants in the state.

Over the years, the state has taken steps to ease the investment atmosphere in MP. For example, the MSME sector has grown rapidly in the past few years because of the state government policy of not taking any tax for the initial three years from these companies. MP has over 9 lakh registered MSMEs. Key industries Madhya Pradesh’s diverse investment opportunities and favorable economic climate make it an attractive destination

MP’s leading industrial areas MP has four prominent industrial areas — Mandideep, Pithampur, Govindpura and Dewas ­ that together contribute about 80 percent to the industrial economy of the state. Apart from the Pithampur Special Economic Zone (SEZ), MP has 4 IT SEZs in Indore — the Crystal IT Park and three private­operated ones, Infosys, TCS and Impetus.

Dewas: Located 40 km from Indore, Dewas is one of the largest industrial areas of the state. Dewas is divided into six industrial areas, with around 1,200 small and big industries working here. Industrialisation in Dewas started in 1969 when the Union Finance Ministry started the bank note press in the area and this was followed with many industries (such as Tata, Cummins, Sun Pharma, John Beer, Gajra Gear, Gabriel, etc) setting up their plants. However, at present, the biggest challenge facing Dewas is the non­availability of land for industries; hence, for investors. In terms of FDI, the state received inflows totaling $ 521.3 million from October 2019 to December 2022.

industries are unable to develop and expand.

Pithampur: The Malwa region is very productive in terms of industry and Pithampur, which is not very far from Dewas, has become a focal point of investors in the last one decade.

Pithampur has become the largest industrial area of Madhya Pradesh, where more than 1,250 industries currently operate.

Mandideep: It is one of the largest industrial areas in Madhya Pradesh with more than 450 small and big industries operating from the area. Everything from needles to big vehicles is manufactured at Mandideep, and it accounts for annual exports of about Rs 25,000 crore.

Govindpura: Located in the heart of Bhopal city, Govindpura Industrial Area is smaller, but older. Govindpura emerged after the setting up of BHEL in Bhopal around 1960 which brought in a large number of small companies.

Glenmark, Novartis, Mylan Fertilizers Gulf Lubes Madhya Pradesh possesses significant mineral resources and stands as the country’s leading state in terms of the number of mines. The state is one of India's leading players in the production of various minerals, including limestone, copper, rock phosphate, manganese, dolomite, glass sand, and pyrophyllite.

Being a agriculture­driven economy, MP has two mega food parks and eight government food parks, with a warehousing capacity of nearly 15 million metric tonnes (MT) and a cold storage handling area spanning over 354,000 sq m. Madhya Pradesh leads in the

production in the defence sector. The state has six ordnance factories 4 of which are located at Jabalpur (vehicle factory, grey iron foundry, gun carriage factory, and ordnance factory Khamaria) and 1 each at Katni and Itarsi. The factories are run by Ordnance Factories Board and manufacture a variety of products for Indian armed forces. Now, the state government, in collaboration with the centre, plans to establish military equipment industries in Madhya Pradesh.

By virtue of its centralised location, Madhya Pradesh has excellent connectivity to several parts of India and is idol destination for centralise manufacturing and distribution hub.

MP drives auto industry in the top gears With the Indian automotive industry expected to reach around $ 300 billion by 2026, the centrally located Madhya Pradesh is expected to be the driving force. MP's strategic location makes it an ideal place for the manufacturing hubs to thrive and contribute to the growing Indian automobile sector. he conducive government policy, right industrial ecosystem and adequate infrastructure facility have allowed Madhya Pradesh to emerge as the automobile & ancillary hub of central India.Madhya Pradesh has witnessed an upward trend in economic growth, social development, and gross state domestic product (GSDP). This has helped in propelling demand for automotive, agriculture equipment, construction equipment and other related components in the state. MP's strategic location makes it an ideal place for the manufacturing hubs to thrive and contribute to the growing Indian automobile sector.

Madhya Pradesh houses one of the leading auto clusters of India at Pithampur (near Indore), and Mandideep (near Bhopal). It is estimated that there are more than 30 original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and 200 auto component makers in the state, which employ over 200,000 technical professionals.

The Pithampur Auto Cluster alone employs 25,000 persons.

Some of the auto industry specific skill development institutes in the state are: the Indo­German Tool Room(an initiative between Governments of India and Germany), the Pithampur Auto Cluster Ltd (an initiative of Government of Madhya Pradesh), the MSME Technology Centre in Bhopal (an initiative between Government of Madhya Pradesh and Government of India with support from World Bank), and the Central Farm Machinery Training & Testing Institute, Budhni (an initiative of the Government of India).

Mandideep – have contributed to exports of $26.24 million from Madhya Pradesh in FY 2021­22.

Pithampur auto cluster ­ home to top­notch industrial infrastructure ­ spans across total area of around 4,500 hectares and provides excellent industrial infrastructural facilities. The Pithampur auto cluster has over 120 large and 450 MSME units.

NATRAX: Setting a global benchmark In June 2021, Union Ministry of Heavy Industriesinaugurated automotive testing and certificate centre under NATRIP in Pithampur.

NATRAX is Asia’s largest state­of­the­ art automotive testing facility with 14 types of test tracks, 5 labs, and 7 buildings, developed over 3000 acres of land, under the National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRiP) of the Government of India.

NATRAX is spread across an area of 1200 hectares with 11.3 kms of test track with an investment of Rs 1653 crores where, it has 14 types of test track including vehicle dynamics, fatigue and NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) testing facilities.

High­end vehicles such as BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Tesla, undergo high speed testing (HST) which cannot be measured on any other Indian test tracks. It is easily accessible to all the major manufactures as it is centrally located in Madhya Pradesh. The track can be used for developments of prototype cars according to Indian conditions.

Vehicle can achieve max speed of 375 kmph on curves with steering control and it has less banking on ovals making it also one of the safest test tracks globally.

As per World Bank and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India, Madhya Pradesh has achieved “Achievers” category in the ease of doing business (EODB) metric.

Gearing up for expansion In April 2023, India implemented new emission norms for vehicles, also known as Real Driving Emissions (RDE) norms, which require car manufacturers to provide real­time emissions data for their vehicles. effective from April 1, 2024, covering a wider range of engines, including those smaller than 8 kW and those larger than 560 kW, and introduce PN (particular number) limits for those engines with rated power between 19 and 560 kW. These new emission norms are expected to boost exports to more mature markets such as Europe and North America from India, necessitatingauto OEMs to enhance production capacity to meet the requirements. Companies, having manufacturing units in Madhya Pradesh, are gearing up to this reality.

For example, CASE New Holland Construction Equipment, a division of CNH Industrial Group, is reportedly doubling its manufacturing capacity at Pithampur over next 3­4 years on back of robust domestic as well as exports demand. The company’s Pithampur production facility has been a prominent participant among the brand's eight manufacturing centres worldwide for over three decades. The facility is built on 40 acres of land and has been critical to exporting machinery internationally. CASE plans to double its capacity from the present around 9,000 units per year to maximise earnings and improve its efficiency across all product lines.

Similarly, the global tyre manufacturerBridgestone, which operates two plants in India at Indore

and Pune, is investing Rs 600 crore on capacity and technology upgradation.

In November 2023, Bridgestone Indiaalso announced a remarkable milestone as its Indore plant reached the historic production of its 100 millionth tyre.

The renewed demand from the Vehicle Factory Jabalpur (VFJ) and other defence transport manufacturing and assembly units of the country has buoyed the local automobile component manufacturing industries of Madhya Pradesh, a home for close to 350 small and medium size component units.

Summing up The automobile industry, which contributes to nearly 7.1 per cent of India's GDP and 49 per cent of manufacturing GDP, is a leading employment provider. It is worth more than $222 billion and accounts for 8 per cent of total exports. The auto component industry is worth $ 53 billion, with $ 19 billion in exports. The automotive components industry in India, which currently contributes 2.3 per cent of India's GDP, is expected to become the world's third largest by 2025. With the Indian automotive industry expected to reach around $ 300 billion by 2026, the centrally located Madhya Pradesh is expected to be the driving force.

In industrial plants, flammable gases released by pressure relief valves during unplanned over­ pressurization is primarily flared. Flaring and venting pose health and safety hazards and constitute a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions. High Integrity Pressure Protection System (HIPPS) is a Safety Instrumented System (SIS), which by definition is a distinct, reliable system used to safeguard a process to prevent a catastrophic release of toxic, flammable, or explosive chemicals. HIPPS can be employed to prevent over­ pressurization of a plant by shutting­off the source of the high­pressure gas rather than by releasing it to the atmosphere. This system closes the source of over­pressure within seconds and has at least the same reliability as a safety relief valve or flare system.

A typical HIPPS system comprises the following: • Three pressure sensors (2oo3 voting) that detect the over pressure in the line • A logic solver which receives and processes the input signal from the sensors and transmits the output to the Solenoid Valve in the final element.

• A final element (Actuated Valve) which perform the emergency closure action via a Solenoid Operated Valve (SOV) to bring the process to a safe state. Typically, 3 SOVs are • used ­ a manual­reset SOV (M), an auto­reset SOV (A) and one for Partial Stroke Testing (PST).
