Letter To Joseph Cress From executive editor Dominic Balestrieri-Fox

I

t’s my final year on staff, and I’ve had a pretty good ride. I was a mediocre freshman writer, but I picked up a football beat sophomore year and that led me to sports editor my junior year. We won a pacemaker for that work this year, and for our 2015-16 season as I became executive editor, we changed the sports section format to a magazine. Joseph Cress has been on staff for one year. He started his City High journalism career in yearbook, and for the past two years alongside co-editor Abby Whitaker ‘16, has poured his

time into transforming yearbook from a seven person team of foreign exchange students to the organized, 15 person operation it is today. He’s logged 7,000 miles onto his car taking photos for the Little Hawk. He’s been at pretty much every home event for the past year, girls and boys, and has posted hundreds of photos in slideshows throughout the year. He has developed relationships with professional photographers and is going to continue his press-pass collection as he heads into a career as a Daily Iowan reporter.

Session dates: (session 1) July 22-31 (Session 2) August 2-11

Joe has only been on staff a year, but he has done everything I’ve done in my four, and arguably so much more. This shorter issue is dedicated to him and his work, and regular coverage will be online. Thank you Joe for everything you do, and know that your work for the Little Hawk is known and will be deeply missed. Your friend, Dominic
