Imperfect Beauty “When bread is baked some parts are split at the surface… these have a certain fashion which contrary to the purpose of the baker’s art, are beautiful... and in a peculiar way excite a desire for eating. It’s precisely the irregularities that stimulate the appetite.” Imperfect beauty is the chemistry that happens when a look is pulled together in an effortless way. Take something irregular, like buildings beaten by wind and rain, rough-hewn objects that hint at their inevitable decay, the asymmetrical… and it’s all the more desirable. The inspiration behind this collection came when I stumbled into a place in the most unobservant way. Perfect imperfections seem to capture its essence. A place from which one’s strength is drawn, but where you feel mostly at home; a place where you can be your most authentic self. Imperfection and linen are so intrinsically linked. Artisans in Europe have been working on the complexity and craftsmanship needed to transform flax to linen for centuries; from field to fibre, from yarn to fabric… the beauty of linen is that it is not perfect. Our Story The Linen Works has been creating beautifully crafted pure linen products for the home for over ten years. Inspired by a visit to a rustic farmhouse overlooking the Bay of Toulon is how The Linen Works came to be. The house was well loved, lived in and told a story with pieces to treasure. Its pared-down style and simple yet useful things is what still inspire our creations today. Lived linens in soft muted tones are not easy to find; we pre-wash ours so each new piece already feels like an old friend. In addition, it has to be pure European linen to stand the test of time.
