Make Your Move!

So you like a dude and from the lack of action on his part you’d think that a snail could move at a faster pace! You don’t need to wait for a guy to ask you out if you’re interested. Why not make the first move? He might even thank you for it! Be warned ladies this is an art that has to be practiced and perfected, that way he’ll think he did all the work and if it doesn’t work out the way you hope atleast you’ll have your dignity intact. Try out these undercover flirting tips that will help you bag any hottie that you set your eyes on... The key to getting a jamaaz attention is confidence. Have you ever been at a funkie and seen that one chic that the all jamaaz have their eyes on? Have you thought to yourself (and you know you have), she is

June

not even that pretty? What does she have that I don’t? The answer; selfconfidence. Let a hot guy catch you looking at him! When he does smile, smile back (a genuine smile makes a person approachable and it tends to be contagious.) It will give him the invitation to approach. Relax! This is probably the most important part of making the first move, if you are nervous it will show. Let the conversation flow. Asking questions is a good way to get to know someone, but don’t interrogate the poor dude. Remember that every question you ask you should also be able to answer yourself. If the conversation has gone well don’t be afraid to offer your number/email and Facebook ID, again the worst that can happen is they will not call/write. Thanks to technology, you can avoid the frightening face-to-face encounters

why not send him a text or better yet flirt with him a message on Facebook this way you’ll have more time to compose what you say to him and let the witty side of your personality shine!

The Don’ts....

1. Don’t act like a stuck up snob. You are no worse or no better than anyone else in the room (or world for that matter) 2. Don’t offer sex or any sexual act, it makes you look easy. 3. Don’t look desperate. Avoid stating that you have been single for a year and if you do tell them this make it sound positive. Remember that the worst thing that can happen is discovering he’s just that not into you, so if it happens, get over it and move on!

My Chill Factor is... MUSIC

DANCING Name: Evelyn “Eve” Njeri Age: 15 yrs (404) School: Precious Blood Kilungu

Name: Alfred ‘Alfytin’ Ouma Age: 15 (204) School: Orero Boys

A confessed dance-a-holic, Eve modestly admits to trying out all the coolest dance moves she checks out on music videos and dance flicks. Don’t let looks fool you despite her petite form, this show stopper can bust most (if not all) of the latest dance moves.

Alfytin has been rapping for most of his life and hopes to make music his profession. He has worked with the likes of Bobby Mapesa and Dax Squad and is already making a name for himself in the underground music scene.

“My love for dance started when I was quite young and I don’t think it will ever end. My world almost literally revolves around music especially dancehall music because of the energy. I love the way Jamaicans move and I hope to one day to be as awesome as them, maybe even have my own dancing school to teach and keep other youths out of trouble by helping them channel their energies into dancing instead of other harmful activities. me and my own life experience. Siogopi kuuliza maswali zile nikonazo juu ya life iMC: Is your song “Mtaa Mentality” inspired from your own real life experience? Juliani: I grew up and went to school in Dandora so my whole perspective on life was shaped there. ‘Mtaa Mentality’ was inspired by this because at some point in my life my background was a handicap for me. Juu ya kutoka ghetto niliona siwezi amount to anything. iMC: Have you gotten past that? Juliani: Yes and no. It’s a process and I’m still learning. Reading the bible has really helped me on this because it has really opened my mind up to the possibilities of my own ability to do great things. iMC: You were voted Teeniez’ Gospel Artist at the CHAT Awards? Juliani: It made me realise that my music is appreciated and if you take care of the community it will also take care of you. Music is my career and I always try to do positive music that will inspire and help others. iMC: If money didn’t matter what would you do with your life? Juliani: Music. iMC: What’s the biggest misconception on Juliani Juliani: That I’m not a Christian. iMC: Beauty or brains? Juliani: Maturity iMC: Your weapon of choice would be? Juliani: Words. iMC: What’s your embarrassing guilty pleasure? Juliani: Laughing out loud by myself. iMC:Name one thing that scares you? Gerard Pique – Central Defender – Spain

John Terry – Central Defender – England

A commanding presence in the backline thanks to his strength and reading of the game, Pique has demonstrated a real panache for taking the ball out of defence and was dubbed “Piquenbauer” by a Catalan paper last season when attracting flattering comparisons with legendary German sweeper Franz Beckenbauer. The defensive inspiration for Chelsea and England, Terry is a vital part of the spine of the side and is viewed as one of the best defenders in the world. He has a commanding, no-nonsense style of play and is the kind who does not get bullied. Excellent in the air, in a positional sense, and willing to throw himself in front of anything to stop a shot, he is a first-rate defender.

Frank Lampard – Midfielder – England

A box-to-box midfielder, Lampard has risen to become the heartbeat of Chelsea’s attack and also cemented his place in the England side as well. His work-rate, range of passing and attacking threat makes him almost the complete midfielder. Lampard boasts an incredible goal scoring record and his powerful shooting and excellent passing make him one of the best.

Lionel Messi – Midfielder – Argentina

Lionel Messi is the heir apparent to the throne left vacant by Diego Armando Maradona. The waters are divided between those who consider him to be far from being the best No. 10, and those who believe that Messi will be even better than Maradona. His ball skills are second to none. His runs from midfield are usually lethal and his outstanding ball control at speed is just about unmatched in world football.

Didier Drogba – Center Forward – Ivory Coast Undoubtedly one of the best centre forwards in the world today, Drogba still manages to polarize opinion with his theatrical and temperamental style of play taking the shine off the powerful striker’s incredible talent. Aerial prowess and power; there are few players in the world as strong. The robust, bustling centre forward harasses his markers but he is excellent with the ball at his feet and a strong finisher with the ability to use both feet.

C. Ronaldo – Midfielder – Portugal

Fast and tricky, Ronaldo possesses a thunderous dipping; swerving shot and is one of the most dangerous set-piece exponents in the game. Ronaldo will take on any defender with searing pace, and mesmerising footwork to boot. His ability to beat a player and whip in crosses makes him a feared opponent. Add the way his free-kicks swerve with pace and power and this winger would be an asset to any team, past and present.

GIRL POWER

How Can I Fit In? I just joined a new school and I’m having a really hard time fitting in. Most of the chics in my class are from well-off families and I’m the only one in the scholarship program. I’ve tried socializing with them but they always act like I’m bothering them or something. One time, the T.A had to force them to take me in for a class group discussion as no one wanted me in their group. I know I might not be as pretty and loaded as them but I want to fit in to make life in school easier for me as the isolation is depressing me. Please help me? Amina (304)

Loriet Adhiambo - Lwak Gee

Sharon Wanjiru - St. Lucies Kiriri

Just be yourself. You don’t have to prove anything to them. You are who you are no matter what. You might not be up to their ‘standards’ but never forget what brought you to school in the first place. It’s not about ‘fitting in’ with the crowd. Please don’t let all the negativity get to you because you need to maintain your grades for the scholarship program. Identify one person you can talk to in your class.

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. I think you let these chics treat you badly because you don’t think you’re good enough to be in the same class as them. It starts by being confident in yourself and learning to stand up for yourself. For example, during group discussions don’t wait to be asked to join in. Just do it. It’s not bitchy or aggressive. It’s being assertive.

Melissa Akinyi - Buru When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Start dressing and acting like them, unless of course they are being irresponsible in that case then it’s better not to fit in. That’s the only way to fit in. In other words kuchanuka! They all probably did the same thing to fit in as well; the world is a survival for the fittest campaign. If you can start a new fad so that they are all mimicking you then good for you!

GIRL POWER TIP OF THE MONTH No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. It starts by being confident in yourself and learning to stand up for yourself.

Anne Awuor - PB Kilungu As difficult as the situation may seem concentrate on your studies and don’t show any attitude, whoever becomes your pal let them be, whoever doesn’t just don’t bother because friends aren’t counted via quantity but quality. I believe in a matter of time they will know that you are worth more than they think. I believe in this one you will come out victorious, just hang in there. I would also advice you put God in the mix. Do you have any pressing issues to you want advice on from people who can relate to what you’re going through?
